We stayed at this hotel for 1 week from 5th October 2006 on a B&B basis. It is set about 5 minutes walk from the beach and main bar/restaurant area which is perfect, as the main beach strip gets very busy. The hotel is immaculate and one of the most friendly I have stayed... more

Hotel Hermes was a Great Experience
We were booked at the Hermes through a package deal made with Gate 1 Travel, (10-day Greek Islander). We had planned our Greek vacation before we got the idea of getting married on the island of Santorini. After we went and made our wedding plans, my wife-to-be mentioned to the Gate 1 agent that we would be getting married on our trip. The agent on her own volition, contacted the hotels we would be staying at and informed them about our wedding plans. I don't have the Gate 1 agent's name, but I have to say that this was a very thoughtful gesture. Because of her action, the people at the Hermes put us in a lovely bridal room without an additional charge to us. This was very generous of them indeed. We had room 107 which had its own Jacuzzi, a computer and very nice furnishings. The room was large and elegant, with marble floors, a view of the smaller pool area surrounded by trees and a nice modern bathroom. The hotel itself went beyond our expectations; everything was modern, clean and elegant. The grounds were green and well kept. The staff was friendly, especially the people at the front desk who knew we were getting married and were very helpful. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay or a more helpful staff. On the day of our wedding, everything went off without any problems, except perhaps the weather – it was a very warm day. We used Michael Gierkovits' Weddings-in-Santorini.com, whom we highly recommend. Michael was very responsive to emails and phone calls, answered all questions directly, he was always on time, the people he used were excellent and most of all he did everything he said he would. No worries with Michael. The Hermes is about a two block stroll to Kamari beach and main walkway. Our first sight of the beach was at night as the full moon rose above the Aegean Sea – a lovely sight. Although the hotel water is drinkable, due to the high mineral content it is recommended that guests buy bottled water. A small mini-market one block down towards the beach sold bottled water at an inexpensive price. The hotel was quiet at night but don't be surprised if you hear a rooster in the distance announcing the coming dawn or the peeling of nearby Greek church bells early in the morning. The continental breakfast at the Hermes was above average with some interesting morsels to choose from. Our only regret concerning the Hermes was that we couldn't have stayed longer and relaxed more. Perhaps sometime in the future we will return on an anniversary and do just this.
Happy with Hermes Hotel in Santorini
I recently returned from a 10 day trip in Greece, For 3 nights were in Santorini and stayed at the Hermes Hotel. I was in room 202. The room was near the reception area. My room was overlooking the pool. When you enter the room, the bathroom is on the left. It was quite a large bathroom. The sink had a nice amount of counter space, as well as a shelf above the sink, which was handy for all of my personal items. There was a tub/shower combination. The tub was rather narrow for bathing, but fine for showering. The floor was tile. The room had 2 small twin beds, which were pushed together. On each side of the beds there was a small nightstand, with a lamp. There was a refrigerator, tv and air conditioning unit in the room. I never used the tv or air conditioning. There was a desk/vanity with a mirror above it, as well as a small stool for sitting. There was also a coffee table and chair for sitting. The floor was marble. There was a door that opened into a balcony which had a small table and 2 chairs. There were also shutters which could be closed to keep the room darker. In the reception area there were a couple of couches that were nice to sit in if you were waiting for someone. There is also a living room which had couches and chairs. They have a couple of bookshelves filled with books that people trade. It also had a computer for guests use, including internet, which was free. There is a nice restaurant also in the hotel. We received breakfast each morning, which was your typical European breakfast. Eggs, breads, meats, cheeses, coffee, juice, tea. They were open for dinner and the meals were good. Some of the tables for the restaurant were outside which was nice during this time of year. They also had a full bar. The hotel is located within walking distance of the beach, shops, and a bus stop. I would say 5-10 minutes to any of these. Others in our party were not as happy with their room as I was. I would recommend that you check out the room you would have to make sure that you got something that you would be happy with.
Great,relaxing place
Loved: Friendly, helpful staff; Large, clean room with plenty of storage; Size of hotel; Garden areas around the pools; Breakfast. Not as good: Air conditioning not very effective
Perfect for Kamari
We have just returned from a fortnight in Santorini with the first week spent in Kamari (second week in Oia - see review on Nostos Apartments). Santorini is amazing and without doubt I would recommend spending time in Oia as the resort is magical. The first weke in Kamari was very different but equally as good. Hermes Hotel - Situated just up one of the roads leading to the beach front, this hotel is situated in the perfect location as away from the sound of mopeds and bustle of the beach. The hotel itself is fairly small which is so much better than something like the 'Kamari Beach' which is on the beach front and downright ugly. The room we had was fairly basic but very clean and we had no complaints. The pool is also good and we enjoyed the fact that the pool-side bar served drinks and food al day which was convinient for a quick bite to eat during the day if we were around the pool. The staff were superb and particularly the guys behind the bar were really friendly. Breakfast was fine, cheese, ham, bread rolls, eggs, museli, yoghurt and fruit - fairly normal stuff but lots of it available. For the price we paid this hotel was spot on and no complaints. If we went back to Kamari we would stay at Hermes again but maybe book a more luxurious room in the main building (overlooking the pool). Dining - The selection of restaurants in Kamari is good but the majority serve the typical Greek fair wich is great for a few nights but maybe a bit 'samey' in a week. We found a new place called 'Remy' which wasn't busy (as it was fairly new) but served great food with a twist on traditional Greek food. Service was great and I would recommend anyone to give it a go (don't be put off by the lack of customers as is it slightly more than the Taverna's to eat there but well worth it!). We tried a place called 'Atmosphere' one night which was reputed to be slightly classier, however we must have completely chosen the wrong night. As there was only a few diners we expected good service but then the owner of the restaurant sat down with 5 of his friends and the two waiters/waitresses who were serving then proceeded to serve only his table all night. we were left waiting for ages to get our order, not even offered dessert and then waited 30 mins for our bill to come...not happy! I hate to complain but really feel that clearly the owner had no respect for his paying customers that night (pompous man)! The resort of Kamari is fairly quite and not alot to do, but if like us you just want to relax, and chill out then it's perfect. We did catch a bus to Fira for the day 1.20 euro each. It only took 20 mins and was worth a day trip. I'm glad we didn't stay in Fira as was overrun by tourists! all in all the resort is very friendly, clean and accessible (everything is in walking distance). Enjoy
WOW - fantastic everything
We LOVED this place. The staff was fantastic, the rooms were large and very clean. The staff helped our group with a variety of issues (none having to do with the hotel itself) and were extremely friendly. When we go back to Santorini, this will be the place that we stay - no question about it. BTW - read my other reviews, I don't say stuff like this unless I mean it!!
The staff was....
We stayed at the Hermes in summer 2002 for two weeks (we were on our honeymoon). The place was great, beutiful hotel with a good location, but the staff was awful. One night while we were staying at the hotel bar I overheard them talking s..t about us - in greek. Fortunately I understood what they were saying so the next day I confronted them about it and after many sorries and free drinks they thought it was ok. But our honeymoon was ruined and every since I've made sure that the people who consider staying at this hotel know about the real deal about the staff. Frienly? Yes, until you turn your back on them.
great place
We stayed for 1 week and found the hotel great, the staff are very friendly and helpful and our room was very nice with a balcony overlooking the main pool. It is very clean and we enjoyed our stay. The disadvantage is that the drinks from the bar were expensive but you can always go elsewhere for this
Not the Ritz, but definitely comfortable
My friend & I traveled to Santorini in early June of 2006, we were on a bit of a budget, and the Hermes Hotel was a delight to stay at. Our room was quite large (3 single beds), always clean, included a fridge and had a wonderful balcony. This hotel even has internet access (for a very reasonable fee). The front desk staff were always happy to help out with directions and any other information we needed. This hotel has 2 pools (one is small and mostly in the shade). The walk from the hotel to the beach takes about 7 minutes. If you don't want to stay in the hustle and bustle of Fira, Kamari is a great little place (but it probably gets pretty busy during the high season). At the beach in Kamari, you will find it lined with many restaurants & bars to choose from. It is easy to catch the bus into Fira, and then also from Fira to Oia. It seems that planes are flying over Kamari, to the airport, most of the day, but with Santorini being such a small island, you can hear the planes from just about anywhere. Thankfully, planes are not coming in, or taking off, throughout the night, so you can get a good night's sleep.
Location, Location, Location!
We were very pleased with the Hermes in Kamari, Santorini. Two blocks from the bus station, two blocks from the beach, and the road to Ancient Thira was just behind it. Brand new, lovely architecture, decent breakfast. Be sure to take the walk up to Ancient Thira, but do it in the morning and bring plenty of water.
Very nice hotel
We stayed at the Hermes Hotel in Santorini Greece in April of 2006. It's a very nice hotel, has two pools and is within walking distance of the black sand beach. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff was great, very helpful. Not many shops were open in April but in the "season" one can walk to restaurants and shops. The restaurant at the hotel was very good. Keep in mind that the dollar does not go very far against the Euro. For $100. exchanged we got 74.50 Euros. We rented a car at the hotel and drove to Fira which is a must to see. The views are spectacular!! We were able to just return the car at the hotel, easy process. I look forward to returning to the Hermes.
