Beautiful property and location.July 2010.

My husband and I stayed here last year and I have to say this is a wonderful apartment block , the pool was clean , huge , cool and at siesta time empty ! Bliss !
A free bus to Molyvos...well I want to cry because the town is perfect, a traditional fishing harbour with octopus drying outside the restaurants that throng the harbour . No hard sell , gentlemanly , sedate and calm . You order your starter and observe the fishing boats returning to the harbour , and peace ...all the restaurants were excellent , no dodgy stomachs and the house wine to die for .We swam with dolphins within eyesight and found deserted beaches with family tavernas .
Marilena ....family run , clean , swallows nesting, amongst citrus trees in the well tended gardens . Hot water constantly , clean rooms , good food , friendly hostess ....the walk is flat and loses calories !! Will always recommend this paradise ...go to Molly's Bar and watch the night fisherman with his arc light searching for octopus while you consume delicious cocktails amongst good company ...heaven !

If you have just booked or are going...

If you have just booked or are going to book a holiday at Marilenna then you in for a superb holiday. We have just come back from a 2 wk holiday. If you just want to chill then this is the place to come. The island is beautiful with the best sunsets. The restaurants are lovely and there are plenty of bars / Taverna's.
The Marilenna apartments (in my view and everyone else we met here) are excellent. They are a 20 min walk from the town & beach but they lay on a free minibus service that runs into there 4 times a day so don't be put off.
The rooms were clean and were cleaned with a bed change (almost) every day. The kitchen facilities are basic but again, not a real issue. The swimming pool is excellent and a decent size.
The family who run the apartments are extremley friendly and nothing is a problem for them (thanks Katarina & girls) and also Tony, my girlfriend fell in love with him...and so did I (you will know what I mean when you meet him !!)
We will definatley be coming back again next year.

This was our first visit to Lesvos...

This was our first visit to Lesvos but it won't be our last. Molyvos was a wonderful destination for those looking for a picturesque small town which has made very little concession to package tours from northern European countries. Quaint cobbled streets, superb restaurants and friendly bars. The local people were among the friendliest we have encountered on many trips to the Greek islands and mainland.
The food we had was of a very high standard wherever we went and the prices were very reasonable. Particularly enjoyable were The Captain's Table (fresh fish), Betty's (and Betty knows best so take her advice!) and Galliano (Italian, for when you've reached feta-saturation point). The two gyros cafes on the main road were also excellent places for this bargain street food. The white wines from the island of Limnos were the perfect partner to the fresh fish but quite a few of the restaurants also stocked more upmarket wines (eg, Gerovassiliou). Another two harbourside places well worth seeking out are Molly's Bar, run by the friendly ex-holiday reps, Paul and Martin, and the Sea Horse Hotel was the perfect place to watch all the harbour activities.
The Marilenna was about a mile from the edge of town. It is on the road up to the village of Vafeos and could occasionally be busy if you chose to walk as we frequently did. The hotel courtesy bus runs four times a day (it seems churlish to complain about its frequency when it’s free!), but taxis are plentiful and cheap and the owners will call them for you. The food at the Marilenna was much better than the usual pool bar fare. It was certainly adequate for lunch if you stuck to the Greek staples such as feta saganaki or the daily specials. The downside was that the studios at the Marilenna were a little past their best. Our room was beginning to need some refurbishment, especially the bathroom, which was rather tired. If you tend to spend a lot of time in your room on holiday it would not be ideal. However if you spend all your time outside, enjoying the warm evenings and nights, as a place to sleep and shower it did the job.

Just returned from the lovely island...

Jun 2007, Mrs A Clark

Just returned from the lovely island of Lesvos such a shame I can't say the same about the accommodation at Marilenna Hotel/apartments.
After a long transfer we arrived at the Marilenna Hotel - we were the last stop for the bus. The transfer rep didn’t escort us to our final destination she got off in Molivos and left the coach driver to escort us!!
This should have rung alarm bells but like all good tourists nobody said anything.
On arrival approx 14 people went to the reception desk to be told that the rooms were not ready yet and we could have a drink or something to eat. The rooms were not ready for about 1 1/2 hours and we were expected to pay for the drinks ordered.
We witnessed this on our second week despite rooms being vacant from 0830hrs until approx 3pm on UK change-over day - be warned...
The rooms were very basic and initially looked clean. The self-catering element was a sink with only cold water, no draining board for washing up, a 2 ring electric hob which was positioned next to the sink, not food storage area, minimal cutlery. The only cupboard was under the sink and this had a leak.
The mini fridge was so frosted up that until the heat wave we couldn’t access the small freezer box. This caused its own problems because the fridge couldn’t keep its temperature and leaked. The cleaners were aware of the leak and placed a 'mat' on the floor by the fridge.
The bathroom had mouldy tiles and a stained old bath.
The hotel was approx 25minutes downhill to Molivos with no Tavernas closer unless you used the Hotel restaurant (we chose not to). There was transport from the Hotel to Molivos 0930, 1200, 1800 and 2230 no other times. No local bus service just taxis. The beach is a further 5minutes. The hotel does have a large pool but this can be dominated by regulars to the hotel.
Be warned not to go to the 'Greek Night' at the hotel. The singer is out of tune and by 2300hrs it is a mixture of the Birdie song, jingle bells and Frank Sinatra and even if you don’t go you can hear this very clearly in the accommodation plus the continuing noise from the bar. Bar noise continued until 0300hrs many nights.
Molivos is lovely with lots of very good restaurants - our favourites were Gato's (up the first fork at the top), Alonia traditional were you chose from the kitchen (towards Eftalou next to pine trees), Galliano's Pizza (down toward the harbour).
We travelled with Kosmar and during our 2 weeks we had no representative visits, actually there wasn’t a rep. We had the hotel owners and an emergency phone number.
The Kosmar office on the welcome map was closed and they had relocated.
I my opinion this accommodation is basic beyond acceptable standards and needs a huge amount of improvement you have been warned...

This is a personal opinion. The hotel is too far from anywhere. Nearest supermarket is a good 25 minute walk, as is the town of Molivos. The hotel desperately needs its own shop for essentials, we attempted to buy some milk from the hotel, only to be told that it could not be sold for self-catering.
The proprietors are pleasant but fail to understand that when you are miles from anywhere, you need to provide entertainment for your guests. There was satellite TV in the bar area but it was largely controlled by the proprietors' 10 year old, no attempt to please the guests, no pool/snooker table - really nothing to do in the evenings. The hotel bus into the town runs four times a day - this was inadequate, should be a minimum of every two hours. Rental bikes would be a good idea.
The room was spartan and dark. It was "cleaned" six days a week but not adequately - the floors were generally still dirty and the tiles in the bathroom had not been washed in months. The TV reception was appalling, some evenings we had a choice of two channels, both Greek. The beds were OK but the pillows were like rocks.
Several guests commented on a serious fire safety hazard in that the electricity is controlled by a fob on the key ring. This means that in a fire, you would have to find the key hole and unlock the door in the dark. There is also no Fire Exit signs or diagrams of nearest exits.
There is a nice swimming pool and the loungers are better than most. Unfortunately local children seem to have more priority than the guests. The pool area is infested with flies that actually bite - there is an urgent need for some electric fly zappers. The restaurant food is average to good, chips with everything and it was quite amusing to have Spare Ribs that had no bones in them.
It was very surprising that the tour operator, Kosmar, did not hand out survey questionnaires at the end of the week - the hotel is unlikely to improve if it doesn't know what its guests are thinking.
