The great thing about Lesvos for older holidaymakers is that the relative lack of sandy beaches, and the difficulty of accessing those that do exist, means that the island is never likely to get over-developed. Anaxos has a coarse sandy beach but plenty of sunbeds and tavernas and no night clubs!
Most comments about Christinas Gardens seem to revolve around the personality of Iggy, the owner. He does take a bit of getting used to but his heart is in the right place and he genuinely wants his customers to have a'lovely, lovely time' He works enormously hard, as do his charming wife and daughters. The pool is kept in excellent condition and the standard of cleaning in the rooms is outstanding - fresh sheets and towels nearly every day.

The facilities were extremely well, the cleaning of both the apartments and the houses was also quite well. The area around the hotel was good, since there was a great choice of restaurants. The beach was also very close, which was legendary.
The reason for the rating is because of the owner of the Hotel, Iggy.
Iggy seemed as a nice man to begin with, but as the days moved on he took everything very personal. If something wasn't the way he wanted it, he became mad. He yells alot, both for fun and for teaching his employees something, apparently.
The family itself was great, they gave a good service and the other employees also did their job well. In the bar everything was very overpriced, compared to the food quality.
It also says on the sign "We Serve the best english breakfast in town", well... If that was the best English breakfast in town, the other restaurants must make very ***** food.

Nice place, we stayed at Eleftheria's apartments just across a small road, but owned by the same family. The owner, Iggy, is very friendly and they are a hard-working welcoming family.! The apartment was ideal for us more "mature" guests, close enough to the bar/pool, but not noisy. Well maintained. Good, but low key entertainment with weekly Greek night and BBQ. Close enough to a good range of tavernas or we could eat there, but I think the drinks were a bit pricy.

This hotel hotel is actually nice, but the owner ("Basil"=Iggy..) and his family makes it worse. He has a lot of rules, dont dive in the pool, dont splatter water, allways shower before swimming....etc.
He is only nice if he can make money on you, otherwise dont bother.....Instead of running after the guests with his rules, he could clean the pool, it always gets full of bugs in the afternoon

Have had 4 holidays in Anaxos, 3 of which were spent at Christina's gardens and Eleftheria Apartment (sister block of accommodation).
Iggy can be a bit 'over the top' and is fiercely defensive of any negative issues or complaints that you raise and takes things very personally.
Fortunately, we had very few and they were addressed promptly.
Iggy and his family are very welcoming and hospitable people and they clearly work very hard to run and maintain a very well kept complex.
Anaxos retains a very Greek atmosphere and remains unspoilt and fairly traditional. We have found particular tavernas that are good for food, Villa Nikki especially!
Here, we were treated like old friends and the complementary drinks are very welcoming. It's set back from the beach road so could easily be missed.
I would recommend Anaxos to anyone who likes a laid back holiday and a traditional Greek atmosphere of friendliness, courtesy and hospitality.
Christina's Gardens are a great base for your holiday and the accommodation is perfectly adequate, although don't expect to be able to prepare any gourmet meals in the kitchenettes!
