It was my first visit to a Canary Island and I chose Fuerteventura as it seemed the prettiest island and the least commercial. We chose a self catering property in the charming resort of Jandia/Morro Jable. The accommodation we stayed at was the Sol Jandia Mar apartments... more

Average apartments in good location
The Sol Jandia Mar is well located in a relatively quiet location just off the promenade at the south end of Jandia beach near Morro del Jable. The 1 bedroom apartment I stopped in was quite large with two single beds in a separate bedroom with lots of wardrobe space. The apartment was clean and well maintained. In the lounge area there are two bed settees, a table and two chairs and wall mounted TV. The kitchen area in the centre of the apartment is very basic with a fridge and two electric hob rings. It is kitted out to only minimum standards, lacking kettle, toaster or microwave. Toasters and Kettles can be rented out but I would say at least a kettle should be considered an essential fitment in any apartment. All apartments have a nice balcony with a plastic table and four chairs. There is a good selection of facilities and entertainment on hand aimed mainly at family visitors. There is nightly entertainment, Table Tennis, Childrens play area, Aerobics classes and a Squash court. There are also internet terminals in the reception area (3 Euro per hour). I did not take meals at the apartments but there did seem to be quite a good deal on half board (Buffet breakfast and Dinner) at the moment costing 75 Euros per person per week if you have not booked meals with your package. Service at the Sol Jandia Mar seems friendly and helpful whilst being unremarkable. One thing that did stand out as a negative is the large number of steep slopes and steps. Steps to some of the apartments actually seem very treacherous (see photo) and I don’t think I would be happy to allow children to run around the site unsupervised. I would not recommend the site to anyone with limited mobility. There is a lot of lush vegetation planted around the site that does tend to soften what is a large slab of concrete built up the side of a mountain. Overall I would say the Sol Jandia Mar is a reasonable 3 star apartment block with good sized apartments and hotel facilities. It is good value but kitchen facilities are basic and care needs to be taken with slopes and stairs.
love it again and again
Simply perfect again the resort of Jandia is perfect for the chill out holiday ,with miles of long sandy beaches its perfect . the resort is mostly german tourists and is not suited to people looking for a lively time ie boom boom and clubs . sol jandia mar apartments are spotlessly clean very adequate although not suited to the less mobile . unless u get an apartment on ground floor . the beach is very close by , and there is a market every thursday opposite the complex .Entertainment at the hotel is very hit/miss but they do have a kids club . we have stayed at these apartments for the past 4 years and would never consider staying anywhere else , not even all inclusive as food/drink is so much cheaper outside . The nearby village of Morro Jable is easily reached by way of a well lit promanade along the beach .,the walk is a must at sunset and the restaurants are good too , speaking of which i reccommend the La Sarina and bar Oasis for good value nights out in ..Morro Jable its the Vestibou a definite for shirley valentine types .The staff at these apartments are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble if indeed you have cause for complaint it is dealt with the utmost urgency . all said and done we love it and will return next year , just cant wait . hope you love it too .
You need to be very fit!
Bad bits Booked an apartment - self catering ,and paid extra for a sea view - sea view consisted of a very small gap between other apartments through which you could see a small piece of water. Balcony had three chairs but no table, informed reception of this the next day whilst we were getting a key for the safe, but it never turned up - so we had to carry the wooden dining table from the apartment to the balcony - not a big problem , but niggly. Hotel towels were much the worse for wear, tired with holes. Only access to the apartments from reception was via a flight of stairs, I did wonder if this caused less fit individuals any problems? Good bits Apartment was clean, comfortable and very adequate for our needs. Cleaning and room services were very good.
Love Jandia hate Sol Jandia Mar
Stayed in September 06. Jandia is a fantastic resort with the best beach on Fuerteventura. The hotel rooms are basic. Very hot no air conditioning and no chance to hire fans! Poor entertainment for kids as its not in English. Stayed self catering so can't comment on the food. Staff miserable to English but were ok to other nationals. Think again about staying here. Plenty of other hotels cater for the Brits such as Faro or the Barcelo. Jandia is a German resort but brits are starting to find their way to the best part of the island. Try Jandia it's great
beautiful beach,
hi we have been to this hotel on 2 different occasions now, on the first visit we had a great appartment low floor, where as on our 2nd visit we had to climb loads of stairs to our room, and with 2 small children and me being 5 months pregnant, it was,nt fun, there are plenty of resturants to go on the evenings, and lots of shops to look around to, we found this hotel to be very german, and i totally agree with other peoples reviews, that you are treated second best to the germans here, the entertainment on the nights were poor, ok if you like bingo in german every night, i dont think there is much at all here for the english, we did have a good time here, partly because of the beautiful beach, be aware it is very very nudist on the beach, i know we had a lot of questions to answer from our two daughters, as the nudists really dont care if your sitting there or not they will come and plonk there selves down by you, we had a laugh anyway,
Noisy Nights!
A very clean complex throughout and all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Our apartment was more than adequate in size for two adults and a teenage child although the kitchenette was very basic. It was cleaned 5 times a week by the maid with the towels and sheets also changed regularly. We asked for a high floor with a sea view and weren't disappointed in that respect however, the only access to the apartment was via a concrete spiral staircase and was extremely difficult to negotiate with our luggage and groceries. Furthermore, the only way up to any of the apartments is via a large flight of stairs from the reception and we witnessed several couples struggling with pushchairs and the odd wheelchair. The brochure does warn about difficulties for people with mobility problems but we thought the access to the complex and apartments was very outdated. We ate breakfast/dinner in the buffet restaurant every other day and found the food and service to be of a very high quality with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Daytime was fine as we spent most of our time on the beautiful beach, which was only a short walk away, or finding other beaches and sights with our hire car. However, trying to get some sleep at night was a different story altogether! Spanish children of all ages were allowed to run riot until the very early hours of the morning (sometimes ‘til 03:00) and the Spanish adults were not much better when they returned very drunk from their nights out. Despite complaining to reception and our Thomson Rep, little was done to curb the terrible noise and disturbance which we endured for all but three nights during our stay. None of the Thomson Reps stay in Jandia itself but chose to run a remote service from the more upmarket Hotels outside the resort. We first discovered this fact while waiting for our transfer coach to leave the airport. Our first contact with a Rep wasn’t until two days after arrival although she was contactable by phone for emergencies/queries. She was very friendly and approachable but was very vague with answers to most questions and misleading about discounts offered against Thomson organised activities. One in particular, a “tickets only” for the fabulous zoo at La Lajita, was quoted at saving us 6 Euros if we bought from Thomson whereas we could have gained access to the zoo for exactly the same price had we chose to buy on arrival! The “Subcat” trip was a great experience, although very expensive, but was spoilt by the guide who took it for granted that everyone on the trip was German and didn’t spout a word of English until I pulled her up! To top it all, she even interrupted the English version of the safety video on the submarine to speak to her German clients over the microphone. Overall, our holiday on Fuerteventura was once again a lovely break from the UK but, with prior warning that this complex caters mainly for young Spanish families with lots of children, we would have chosen different accommodation
loved it so much, going back again in October this year!
We stayed here last October, having stayed previously in Calleta de Fuste. Comparing the two is impossible. Jandia is by far the best. Incredibly clean and tidy. The apartments are fairly basic but the restaurants are so reasonable and the food so good that eating in isn't really an alternative. The supermarkets nearby are very well stocked with a wide range of english and spanish foods. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here. We hired a jeep and explored the coast. We travelled over the mountains to the other side - quite an experience! but well worth it. The beaches there are amazing and in October we almost had the beach to ourselves. Although the resort is mostly germans, we found them to be very friendly and didn't encounter any problems with sunbeds and towels! quite the reverse!. It was nice to stay somewhere without English pubs and English food on every corner. Lots of nudist beaches at this end of the island but plenty of beach space if this isn't your scene. The beach at Jandia is sandy and very safe. It can get a bit windy and a small beach tent is always handy to keep your belongings in. Overall a fantastic holiday - couldn't really find fault with anything. Hence we are going back again in November.
Absolutely Fantastic
I have just come back from a 2 week holiday in Fuerteventura and its been one of my best holidays yet. The hotel was fantastic, really clean, with people sweeping up and sorting flowers and keeping everything spotless. The hotel room was lovely, they are spacious with adequate cupboard/wardrobe space. We asked for a sea view and thats exactly what we got. We were probably in one of the furthest away apartments as we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to get to the room alone, but it was well worth it. The hotel staff are extremely helpful, providing you with maps around the hotel (!) and information about the local area. They were more helpful than our rep to be honest! I would say one down side would be the lack of facilities for self catering, but the restaurants are so nice that you probably dont want to eat in anyway. One restaurant i highly recommend would be La Sirena, where you are guaranteed a hot, well cooked meal with friendly staff. For day trips, I recommend the Subcat, where you go 30m under water and see the sea life, and a day trip to La Lajita Zoo where you get to ride camels, see various shows plus walk around the zoo. There is also a market place next to this hotel which is held every Thursday which is great fun to pick up souvenirs and haggle!! would love to go again.
Highly recommended
I visited the Sol Jandia Mar Apartments in March 2005. They are in an excellent position, close to the shops, restaurants and a few bars but they are never affected by any noise. Across the road lies a beautiful sandy beach. The staff on Reception all speak perfect English and we found them very helpful at check-in and check-out and on the few occasions we needed their help. The location of the apartments, built on a hillside, mean there are quite a few steps and steep slopes around the complex, not suitable for anyone with mobility restrictions. However, the reward is the stunning sea views from many apartments. The grounds are constantly being swept clean and the apartments are kept spotless with towels changes five times a week and bedding changed twice. I have nothing but praise for this accommodation, which caters mainly for German and Spanish visitors. I am unable to comment on the quality of the meals, as we did not eat in the restaurant. One very minor complaint – there are no kettles or toasters in the apartments. They can be hired for a deposit and a daily charge, but with no oven or grilling facilities these do seem to be quite essential items. Jandia is a small, clean village but has a reasonable choice of restaurants and bars, all of a high standard. I booked my rental car with Auto-Europe, who use Orlando Cars as their supplier in Fuerteventura. The car was adequate, though far from new, but the Orlando Car representative charged me 30 euros for a full tank of petrol which did not exist. Despite written evidence they refused to refund the amount. Since returning to the UK, I have advised Auto-Europe about the problem with Orlando Cars and they have been extremely generous in compensating me.
VV Good
We went in February and the weather was awful but the hotel made up for that. There were several daytime activites, (shooting, shuffle board, tv, reading materials, keep fit, internet access) all free except the internet, so it was not a bad holiday. Rooms really clean, complex really clean and well kept, entertainment every night and good restaurantes near by. We have been to Caleta and Coralejo and Jandia is far nicer providing that you are not looking for English pubs. Oasis Park Zoo is a very good day out and the bird park in Jandia is worth a visit. One of my favourites is the subterranean art gallery in La Oliva but check the opening times during low season. We will go back gladly.
