hotel and staff ok I asked for hotel on the beach, not on the hill or steep steps ( we were family of 10 with three buggies and two pensioners.)
when we got to hotel it was on a hill with lots of steps, very steep inclines and to get to beach we had to go down hill, across a dual carriageway and up a hill, down through a car park onto beach??? NOT WHAT I BOOKED.
We were in Self catering but had to hire kettle and toaster( this is the 1st time we had this problem) Cleaning staff were great and rooms clean.( Helped by us speaking spanish)

It was my first visit to a Canary Island and I chose Fuerteventura as it seemed the prettiest island and the least commercial. We chose a self catering property in the charming resort of Jandia/Morro Jable.
The accommodation we stayed at was the Sol Jandia Mar apartments situated right along the coast on a hillside. The apartments were spacious and the reception staff were friendly and they were there 24 hours a day, which was nice. Due to the time we arrived at our accommodation, it was night and our rep was not there to help us check in. So we had to make our own way round in the dark trying to find our room. It was made easier by the trolleys the apartments provide for a fee of 50cents. The reception staff do provide their clients with a map. But it was nighttime! In the reception you will find some payphones, a cyber cafe, the entrance to the buffet restaurant and entrance to the bar/entertainment room, some sofas and chairs and they also have a room to keep baggage in when you check out. The apartments have an extensive entertainment/activity program but the language is mainly in German/Spanish. The apartments themselves are in three different areas. We stayed in Los Dogos. We were on the third floor and the stairs are not really user friendly with baggage (be careful you have the right apartment number!) Outside the rooms you will find a light switch and door buzzers. The apartment we stayed in was a family apartment that sleeps four people. We had 1 bedroom with two single beds pushed together, very spacious and nicely decorated. A kitchen area that consisted of a hob, a fridge, some plates/cutlery and bowls etc.. the bathroom was very nice! Big mirror, nice sink, bath/shower, toilet and a “foot washer”(Maybe something else ;). The living area of the apartments had two sofa beds and a table with two chairs. Nice balcony with table and chairs. Beautiful views of the Sea! The television provided some very funny entertainment for us. German MTV, Spanish films and some rather peculiar adverts. The pool area is very nice. Plenty of sun beds free in June (no need to put towels on them) the pool bar is nice and the snack bar. Two pools one big and one smaller with a section for youngsters. The grounds are beautiful with many colourful flowers. They have quite a few cats around and at night we caught a few hedgehogs roaming about. They have a Childs playground with swings, a jungle gym, and a mini club for kids. The on site supermarket is well stocked, but closes quite a while for siesta. As for the activities they had Squash, ping pong, shuffleboard, keep fit, water sports (like water polo etc...), shooting, archery and a few more. There is also a laundrette on site (we did not use).
They hand out certificates for the events at the evening shows. As these apartments have many steps and hills I don’t think they would be suitable for people with walking difficulties. A warning for some adults, a lot of the guests bathe top-less! We only ate in the restaurant once and from what we had, we liked it! If you are on self catering board, you may buy a ticket from dinner from reception for 12E each. They have a starter buffet including soups, bread, salad, condiments etc. Different options for you main course, and a nice selection of deserts. From reception you may also purchase time on the Internet. We always did 1/2 an hour for 2E. You have to hire you kettle and toaster for a deposit of 20/30e and 50c a day.
On Thursdays right outside the Sol Jandia Mar is a market. The sell watches, jewellery, crafts, sunglasses and clothes. We did not purchase anything from the Market. One shop you may not be able to live without on your stay in Fuerteventura is '”NETTO”! The specialist supermarket of the Canary Islands. I even found CHERRY COKE in one of them, which is a rarity abroad. There is one right near to the apartments round the back, right near the Tui information centre and the Aloe Vera Info Centre. We were right near to the beach, so you could take a nice stroll from the apartments. There are a wide selection of shops running right down the front of the coast. Including some nice bars and restaurants. Some of our recommendations are Don Camillo (very gorgeous food! I had the fillet steak and my boyfriend had the Chicken breast), Cafe Gina for lunch, and also the La Sirena. Stay away from a shop named FOTO LUCKY! The same man must have tried to rope us in every morning, evening and afternoon!. Chino town is also very nice for lunch. Wendy’s Bar (snacks) did not really understand us. You have to have a plaque done at Super Grafiiks! They cost 18.90E but are really nice! Situated at the end of the first row of shops. They etch out anything you want! (You can write it down). Choose your plaque and HEY PRESTO! They make wonderful presents.
Your rep will tell you all about the excursions available to you, as we went with Thomson our rep gave us a good selection to book when she visited. Ones not to miss are Oasis Park in La Lajita, Baku water park in Corralejco, Morro Jable is just a short walk away (or bus ride that cost 1E). If available do a tour of the Island its very worth while. Some others you can do are scuba diving/snorkelling, wind surfing, catamarans and some mini cruises. Jandia definitely has the best beaches of the island but you must explore the amazing scenery around Fuerteventura. The bus services are good and the island itself takes about 1 hour 45 mins to drive up and down.
All in all a great holiday! Thanks Thomson!
