Just returned from Side after a week at Melas Resort hotel. Absolutely fabulous. Cannot find fault at all. Superb value for money.
Room was large and spotless, maid service excellent. Clothing in shapes and roses on the pillow. Large shower, whirlpool bath, toiletries replenished. Fresh fluffy towels, mini bar with pop, beer, water, babysham replenished daily. Beach robes and towels provided. Could not fault, took pride in work.
Food - superb, freshly cooked, hot, beautifully displayed. Chefs walked around constantly testing temperature and replenishing where needed. Breakfast chef made eggs in any shape. Pancakes also freshly cooked. Squeezed fruit juice, beautiful. Lunch either full buffet or beach bar had chef who made pittas, spagetti bolognese, omelettes to order.
Tea and cakes afternoon, lots of yummy freshly baked - really good variety.
Dinner - superb buffet selection spoilt for choice, all fresh and chefs constantly checking.
Wine and drinks galore. Now on a diet as clothes do not fit. But cannot praise standard and service enough.
Staff polite cannot do enough for you and friendly - make the hotel what it is superb. Animation team - day mostly beach games. Evening entertainment - west end shows, Latin, Russian, Turkish dancing.comedy. Bar staff and waiters polite and friendly.
Hotel in nice grounds.
Side very interesting. Booked trips with local agent or did by dolmus. Fraction of the rep cost.
Good flights although times dreadful.
Weather - bikini beach wear.
Overall excellent holiday, would recommend without hesitation.

In June 2007 myself, my daughter, son in law and 2 grandsons went to the Melas Resort hotel.
The hotel was brilliant the rooms spacious and very clean. The grounds were tended to every day there were even re-cycling bins throughout the gardens.
The meals were very good with a great selection each day. For our lunch time snack we went to the beach bar where the food was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff kept the rooms very clean.
On arrival we were allocated beach towels and when you changed them you were charged only 1 euro each. The pools were very clean and there was no loud disco music played around them.
One of the pools is a mini aqua park where Joe and Harry had the time of their lives. The animation team were brilliant and so were the shows put on by them at the amphitheatre.
You could get any drink you wanted even small or large bottled water. It has been the best hotel we have stayed in and we have already booked for next year.
When you do book make sure you do book the hotel and not the village otherwise you will be restricted to certain parts of the hotel.

We have just returned from the Melas hotel and had a very enjoyable two weeks.
All the staff are very friendly and eager to please. It was very nice to have efficient waiter service at all the bars and disco.
The hotel was kept spotlessly clean and the bedroom was a good size and the beds big and very comfortable.
We were supplied with robes and towels for the pool or beach.
The animation staff were very professional and the entertainment was very good, although for only one hour of an evening but then the disco played some nice and very varied music to suit most tastes.
The food was good and varied. The fish restaurant was excellent. There is no charge but you are required to book.

Have just returned from Melas Hotel and can confirm that this is an excellent hotel - maybe a few changes from the reports of last year. There were plenty of British people at the Hotel also German, Dutch, Turkish, French, Russian etc so very international, although not all waiters speak English very well.
The entertainment is very good - at times excellent - we really enjoyed the beach party.
Food is plentiful with snacks being available in-between meals (even at midnight).
Drinks were free all the time.
Rooms and hotels were spotless with towels being changed every day although you do have to pay 1 Euro if you wish your beach towel to be changed.
The hotel is suited to couples or families with older children and the village more suitable for families with young children.
I went with my two children aged 14 and 17 and both of them found the hotel to be brilliant with plenty to do.
Would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely be returning.

We holidayed at Melas Holiday Village on 25th July '06 for two weeks. Myself, wife and two children aged 6 and 3yrs.
The holiday was booked twelve months prior to travelling and I was a bit apprehensive knowing that only 20% of the holiday makers to the holiday village were British.
The negatives were as follows:
Waiters and bar staff (give or take 1 or 2) did not crack a smile, generally unwelcoming and not very helpful!! On occasions when queuing at the bar they had 1 queue for soft drinks, 1 for spirits and 1 for beer?? There were also many cats wandering around the grounds.
The Positives:
Great animation team, very friendly & love the kids, hotel grounds were spotless, housekeeping staff kept the rooms spotless they would often mould the towels into heart/swan shapes and leave them on the bed. The food was great unless you have a fussy child like us who lived on chips? Desserts were delicious but generally repeated (but plenty of choice).
Sun loungers at the Aqua pool (slides) were available until 10/11am but at the larger pool near the beach you need to get one by 7.30am!! You often had people swimming in the larger pool (where the entertainment is situated) at 9/10pm. Sun loungers at the beach were available all day free of charge.
Most of the staff generally understand English (albeit not very well). I would recommend taking Euros as everything is priced in Euros rather than lira, 1 Euro=2 lira all you need to do is double the price in Euros to get the equivalent in Lira.
The bars in the complex supply bottled water both large and small which is handy if you are going out. The spirits are generally limited to Raki, local vodka, brandy, gin.
The centre of Side is very vibrant and the people are extremely friendly which is a far cry from the waiters I mentioned earlier, a taxi to Side from the hotel would cost 5 Euros or 10 Lira a return taxi would cost approx. 7.50 Euro or 15 Lira, a dolmus bus trip costs 1.5Lira no matter what distance you travel and you can get on and off them whenever you wish.
If you wish to get a dolmus from side centre you must board the noddy train which costs 0.50Lira each and it will take you to the bus station. The buses will display the names of the hotels on the front so you know which one to board. The dolmus' can get quite packed you can pay when you get on or when you get off (the noddy train is situated opposite the large taxi rank as you enter the main shopping street and you cannot travel any further by transport as the streets are generally pedestrianised).
I took all sterling cash with me and found that the hotel rate was the same as in the U.K and there was little difference outside hence I always used the hotel to change currency, the rate at the time of travel was 2.75 Lira to the pound (I am not sure of the rate for travellers cheques).
We purchased a phone card from the supermarket across the road from the hotel which cost about 6 Lira and this lasted the full two weeks.
Due to the awful flight time into and out of Turkey you may wish to book the last day trip (a cruise I think) as you have to vacate your room by midday. If you wish to keep your room beyond midday you have to report to reception at 9am on the day of departure, although as we found out they didn't have any rooms available which was a nightmare (they let us keep the room until 2pm without charge) we still had to hang around for 7hrs with two young children with nowhere for them to sleep.
The television was limited to BBC world news and Euro sport most other channel foreign language. I would recommend the Turkish bath at the hotel it was great this cost £25 each which can be paid for in sterling.
The burgers, pizzas and afternoon tea was served from the larger pool by the beach & not at the aqua pool but ice-creams are available at the aqua pool. The slides at the pool are open from 10.30-12.30 and then 2.30-4.30pm. Burgers are also available from 11pm at the larger pool (this is were the entertainment is situated, they have a little amphitheatre which looks down at the stage seating is also provided around the pool.
Would recommend taking mosquito repellent as a few of them around. Hair dryers available in bathrooms. We stayed in room 712 and the air conditioning was superb with remote control not all rooms have the same air-con' units.
The only staff I tipped were the housekeeping ladies who worked effortlessly.
Even though Germans in majority there were no problems with queue jumping or general manners.
All in all a good holiday, but would not return for a couple of years when the British population has built up.
If you have any question I will do my best to answer them email as follows:tc001t1702@blueyonder.co.uk.

This was a brilliant holiday, the best we've been on. It was our first time all-inclusive, and we were really impressed with what we found. Food was brilliant, always hot, fresh and loads of choice. Very healthy menu, we loved the tomato soup! Restaurant has 2 floors- we found sitting downstairs was quieter. Make sure you reserve the specialised restaurants- Fish restaurant and Turkish restaurant(Kebab). Fish restaurant is amazing- sitting right by the beach by candlelight. You get a 5 course meal- well worth visiting! The main pool bar serves snacks all day (pizza, burgers etc made to order- good for kids).
The grounds are pretty and clean, and the 2 pools are great. One pool has water slides- fun! Most holidaymakers were German, but this didn't bother us at all. Plenty of sun loungers- you don't have to fight for them! It was so relaxing having food and drink on tap- staff always pleasant, hard working and some were really funny!
Very, very hot in September- 35-40 degrees every day. Couldn't have coped without air-con in our room. Tip- put your make up in the fridge! Mini-bar always stocked up, maids are really friendly and do a brill job. Entertainment was aimed at Germans really- although there was some English translation. There was a kids disco which I felt went on a bit too late. Didn't really appeal to us but Germans seemed to love the entertainment!
Holiday village has own section of the beach with free sun loungers. We didn't really go in the sea- we were quite happy lying by the pool. Holiday village located on a road with a few bars and shops. Bit quiet so definitely go to Side town if you fancy leaving the holiday village.
On our last day in Turkey, we paid for the Thomson excursion- visit the Timotei waterfall (beautiful) and then either go to the 5* hotel a minute from the airport (luxury) or go shopping all afternoon. Well worth paying if you have a night flight and want to make the most of your last day.
Side town is a few mins away in a taxi (taxis available right outside hotel entrance). Side town great for shopping (haggling!) but the Turks try and get you in their shop- they start talking German to you and you haven't got a clue what they're saying! If you like jeans its great, the shops are full of them- always haggle. My boyfriend even haggled when buying an Armani watch and got it cheaper. Don't bother taking Turkish Lira- take Euros instead- they prefer Euros. Shops sell loads of fake designer gear (bags etc). The bars on the harbour are good but bit expensive. There are a few clubs around - Apollo (v expensive) and The Lighthouse were two we went to.
Beach was gorgeous and clean- didn't go in the sea but it looked lovely. Side is highly recommended to all. Excellent holiday.

Overall a totally enjoyable complex with friendly staff who ensure that all holiday goers enjoy their holiday to the maximum. This complex made our holiday both relaxing and entertaining also with a delicious range of varied food to suit all diets and children.
My family and I would not hesitate to return to Melas holiday village knowing that it would be at the same standard as we found it on our holiday. Also we found other English people within our stay to be people we would like to stay in touch with.

Well I went to Melas with my parents and have only been to 1 other all inclusive 5 star hotel which thoroughly enjoyed, so I was expecting high qualities well to be honest when we arrived our room wasn’t ready but they sorted it out by offering us the top suite until it was ready which was cool.
I'm currently 18 so took advantage of the free alcohol, watch out because after 11 o’clock they will start to charge you for your drinks.
The quality of the food was excellent couldn’t ask for better and the choice was even better there was everything from lamb to chicken spaghetti and soup, and the desserts are brilliant. I have lots of food allergies so I thought I wouldn’t be able to eat much but I was able to which I was pleasantly surprised that was in the restaurant you also have the option of going to the pool bar for food such as burgers and kebab or you could go to the beach bar which has got amazing selection of food from lasagne to pizza and Turkish foods.
As you walk through the main reception you are greeted with air condition which is brilliant as the tempters in Turkey when I was there were in there 40+ you have got chairs and settees all in there to relax on, you then walk through to the lobby before you get to the lobby you have got a small selection of shops including a leather, jewellery and a newsagent shop, there is more seating and a lobby bar.
You have also got a mini aqua park with 4 slides a bar and a games room with ps2's and xboxs, a pool table, an air hockey table and internet and msn all for a small price.
The night time entertainment was brilliant they hold a club/disco fully air conditioned with a bar in there as well seating and a dance floor. for the adults they have got pool side entertainment with live bands.
Shops are very close to the hotel just over the road literally a 1min walk from the entrance.
All in all it is a brilliant holiday and I absolute loved it I didn’t want to leave the staff were very friendly and kept the hotel spotless I even caught a glimpse of someone polishing the brass bins.
The hotel is a 5 star I would gladly get it changed to a 6 star for its cleanliness and friendly staff.

This hotel is located a 10min taxi(6euro)journey from the main resort of Side. There are a few shops, pubs and restaurants across the road but be prepared to be pestered to buy. Our best purchase was copy GBA games, which were purchased in this small area. We were allowed to try before we bought.
The hotel is spotless and spacious. The meals are excellent. Breakfast is mainly continental or eggs(fried and omelettes to order). They use UHT milk so I avoided my usual cereal. My kids ate pancakes and chocolate sauce!! If you do not want to eat in the restaurant through the day you can get snacks at the pool or beach bar. From 1200 till 1800 Cart d'or ice cream is on offer to all. Coffee and cake is served at the poolside 1600-1700.
Beach towels are provided and can be changed for clean ones for 1 euro. The pool around the hotel has little activity except water aerobics however the facilities are shared with the Melas Holiday Village and there is lots going on in and around the pool there. There is also a small auqapark (four slides)within the complex. The beach is clean and there are lots of shaded sunbeds. Security on the beach keeps away any unwanted peddlers. There is a huge entertainments team to keep everyone active and nightly entertainment within the amphitheatre at the village which is fairly entertaining.
The downsides ... (the reasons not 10/10)The children were often ignored at the poolside bar if seated waiting to order food!! We would eat lunch in the restaurant but the kids(13yrs&10yrs) preferred burger and chips at the poolside and on many occasions were totally ignored (for 30-40mins)until we returned to join them! We started making sure their order was placed before going for ours. If you want a sun bed beside the pool you have to get up early..6am!!
Brilliant holiday overall would certainly recommend.

This is the first time we have been all inclusive before and certainly would do it again infact have already booked to go the Paphos next year hopefully it will be as good.
Hotel was fantastic first impressions very good even though arrived at 1.00am in morning, food vast choice even the 5 year old had plenty too choice the good thing was that if you missed breakfast they did a late breakfast for 10am obviously the choice was the same but enough to keep you going until lunchtime afternoon tea was a treat even though I was supposed to be on weight watchers!, entertainment team extremely good little girl went to kids club a few times they had a kids buffet tea at 7pm three times a week which she toughly enjoyed that give us some time to have our meal in piece, banana boat ride she enjoyed also.
Hotel is a little out from centre but did not bother us with being all inclusive we ate out one night and found it very expensive compared to where we normally go in Turkey Hisaronu there was a few bars across the road from hotel again did not try as we were getting drinks free in hotel and not watered down. The hotel is mainly German and Russian which was nice for a change people informed me that they were quite rude we did not experience this at all.
Had a fantastic time would certainly go back again.
