Just got back fom the Zeus Hotel...

Just got back fom the Zeus Hotel (June 7th - 14th 2008), We probably went the week before the season actually kicked off so very quiet night life. The Zeus is definately a 2 start hotel, and whilst it is kept extremely clean and the staff are very pleasant, the beds are extremely hard (I in the end had to resort to sleeping on top of blankets provided to try and make the bed softer), and as mentioned in other reviews, it can be at times noisy with doors shutting. This isn't necessarily because people are being inconsiderate, the doors are hollow and no matter how softly you try and shut them, they make a noise. We stayed in room 108, which is on the ground floor and faces onto some gardens and I guess faces West, as we watched the sun sets a couple of nights. Because these rooms don't get the sun until later on in the day, they are relaively cool and we didn't need the air con. The only draw back is that because of being on the ground floor, we didn't feel we could leave the doors open at any time (other than when we were in), and also on a night, it would have been nice to sleep with the doors open but anyone could have jumped down onto your small veranda and come in. The breakfast as mentioned in other write ups is basic, a tea-cake with jam, coffee or tea and orange juice. sometimes it was sufficient due to eating late the previous night, but other times we went for a cooked breakfast at Hubs which is just on the front road on the right. I must recommed Rainbow's restaraunt, about 1/4 of a mile up on the left hand side, really good food and cheap prices (set meal for 9 euro), big helpings and you sit looking out onto the beach. We did stay in at the hotel one night for the barbeque and were dissapointed. It cost 7.50 euro each and was 3 very small kebabs, a plateful of rice and salad. Food elsewhere is far superior but the food during the day is fine for a snack. Transfer time from the airport is 20 mins. I would urge people to be careful where they drink. We went into a bar just up the road from the Zeus (A big red guitar on the roof), and at the end of the night paid the bill for everyone and went on our way, the other couple we found out the day after had also paid the bill, so both parties had paid the same bill but despite going back to complain nothing was done as the bar man said he had sent all the receipts off so couldn't check. We did hear of it happening again later that week so do make sure that you pay for drinks as you have them, so a tab can't be run up. Also don't buy any perfumes in resort. The shops have the copies in, but one of them also claimed to have the originals, so I paid 30 euro and didn't think to open it until I got home only to discover it was a copy (and a bad one at that). If you smoke all the shops tend to be the same price, but there is a supermarket about 1/2 a mile up on the left hand side (this is where I got the perfume!), they don't charge commision if you use a credit card and the price tends to be 28 euro for 200 cigs at a time (£23.00), needless to say I used both my allowance and my other halfs and brought the full quota allowed (enough fags for a year). Bus's to Kos aren't that frequent, we caught the 10.30 to Kos town and the 4.30 back (as we read the timetable wrongly, watch out we weren't the only one). It costs 3.60 euro each way. It seemed very expensive in Kos town and wasn't the bargains I was expecting (earing that you would see in Claire's for 12 euro!, bags, leather, jewellery again very expensive). All in all would probably go back at sometime as it is quite cheap to eat and drink, but would stay elsewhere.

ZEUS HOTEL is FANTASTIC!
June-08 From the moment we arrived we were struck by how clean and tidy the hotel is. The Lounge/Bar area is very comfortable, the room was a good size and well layed out, the pool is superb! Probably the best located hotel in Kefalos being set back away from the main roads and farly private, little bit away from the main centre of bars/restaurants, but there is plenty of quality choice nearby and the Beach is a just a short walk away!
The Owners, Staff and Family were very nice and friendly! they layed on a Bbq/Greek night which was great fun!
We couldnt have wished for a better place!
RECOMMENDATIONS:
GOOD EATING
RAINBOW TAVERNA RESTAURANT : Is a must visit! Fantastic Food and Quality Service at a Good Price! along with the biggest size portions around. Mike and Ianis are very welcoming and entertaining. Try the BBQ Chicken!
Check out Mikes dancing here > http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WADfwC2-efg “not our video!”
MANOS - 24hrs : Great (gyros) Kebab and chips!
CAR/QUAD RENTAL
MANOLIS - very close to Zues Hotel.
Best Prices, no hidden costs - No extra insurances needed or deposits - No fuss!
Good Quality Service!
(We did get stung by two other firms)
SUPERMARKETS
Plenty of shops and do shop around, prices vary alot! Good one at the end of the lane that runs past Zues Hotel, nice afternoon walk.
THINGS TO DO
Visit ZIA! about 20-30 mins drive towards Kos town, Fantastic Mountain side taverns and shops.
Explore all the roads leading from and around Kefalos old village, you never know where they lead you but you'l enjoy the fantastic views and find the unexpected!
ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY! WE DID AND WE WILL BE BACK.

What a great place!!!!!
Yes the hotel can be a little noisey BUT the people are brill. We had are very nice time the local cafe' and bars were very good and the beach was great.
We had serveral days out on the local buses to Kos which we found to be ok, at the end of the day this was just a bus ride which took us about a hour. You can see more of the island in a car but for people on a tight buget it was great.
We visited the ruins in kos which were very interesting but one of the major sites was closed due to repairs(but that will give us something to see next time).
The local resturant owners were very welcoming and the prices were very good too.
If you want a basic holiday with a nice beach and nice host's go here.
WE WILL BE BACK!

Returned yesterday after a fantastic holiday, met some lovely people there and many had been there on several occasions. Hotel rooms were clean and well looked after, reception/bar area were far better than expected and Zak, Maria, family and staff were excellent. We have always said that we want to try different places for our holidays but having found Kefalos so peaceful and pretty, the Hotel Zeus so good we are hoping to go back again next year.
We tried many places to eat and found all of them to be friendly without being intrusive, food was wonderful and had no complaints. T42 near to hotel did excellent breakfast and a wonderful cup of tea. Thanks you Zak & Maria, Nicholas and everyone.
Jane and Rob if you should read this, thanks again for making our holiday great.

Sep 2007, Mr B Dunbar

The place is kept spotless and although it is noisy at times it is our fellow guests who bang the doors at all times of the morning. The lack of a fridge doesn't bother us.
Zak & Maria and the family run this hotel like clockwork. My wife and I have stayed here before and will do so again as have many guests who return year after year.
The resort itself is just lovely and the many restaurants and tavernas serve up good food at keen prices.
If you want a good breakfast try the Riverside Cafe, run by Jean from Scotland. 5 Euros for full 'English' which includes black pudding.
The Memory bar down by the harbour is a comfortable hang out for a pre meal drink in the evening.
The Hotel bar can be quite lively until late at night. Nick don't bother trying for the X factor, as Simon Cowell wouldn't appreciate your singing voice.
Looking forward to our next visit already.
Yassou.

Just returned from Zeus Hotel. Had a lovely time. Hotel is in a nice spot surrounded by open countryside. It has with no traffic noise being one block back from coast road. But the walk to beach is still only 5 mins away.
Breakfast is enough to start you on your day.Check out 'T42' if you need a big brekkie!
Bar area was very comfortable and airy. The friendly staff were very helpful, Thanks again for lift up to village for the chemist!!

The rooms extremely clean and chambermaids NOT intrusive at all.
The resort gets busier with restaurants and bars as you walk towards the harbour which is probably only a good 20mins away.
We enjoyed trying different restaurants in the week, they all do Greek specialities.
Antonios/Four seasons was lovely as you could sit at the beach/shoreline and waitresses very charming!
We also went to the small cove of Limionas which is very peaceful (got a great taverna)
and some ducks!!
The main beach in Kefalos was very spacious and relaxing .....Sunbeds spread out so you don't feel crowded.
Would recommend Kefalos as a good resort to anyone NOT wanting all-night 'clubs' but still wanting a night out! But as the island is small you can get about to visit the other resorts.
Would return to KOS <KEFALOS<ZEUS HOTEL!

My Wife and I and 2 boys (15 & 13) stayed at Zeus for 2 weeks. Zak and Maria who own/run Zeus are v. friendly and they and their staff work hard - nothing is too much trouble.
Drinks and snack bar food cheap (and very good) rooms just fine. At the price we paid for two weeks no real complaints.
The only gripe I would have is inconsiderate people slamming doors late at night, although in a place that is all tiles. Ceramics, hard surfaces and no carpets you are bound to get some noise.
We had a great time and met some top people there. Many had been back several times which says it all really. We would certainly go back. Hats off to Zak and Maria.

My first holiday abroad without my three children. What a fantastic time my friend and I had. A wonderful family hotel owned by the nicest of people. Rooms are very clean, basic but did the job. The whole family went out of their way to help in every way. Restaurants are within walking distance and if you’re willing to go a little further there are plenty around the marina. Our favourite was Antonios, situated on the beach. The food was fantastic and the staff were just as good.
I have to say a few good words about our rep "Ali". He was a star. How he keeps up I don’t know, always on the go and always willing to help everybody. First choice should be proud of him.
We will be returning to Hotel "Zeus" just like many of the other guests who have repeatedly returned year after year.
A big thank you to Maria and her family for making our holiday one of the best yet.

Jun 2007, Mr J M  Fox

Small rooms, thin walls, no fridge little privacy and lots of noise marred an otherwise lovely holiday.
Other hotels and apartments are far superior to this dive. Started very promising as the hotel is very clean and tidy, but things going missing from our room and staff do little to make your stay more enjoyable.
We are regular visitors to the area but we will never revisit this hotel.

Jun 2007, Mrs A Jardine

My friend and I went to the hotel Zeus for a 1 week of relaxation, it was great.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was only a roll, jam and a coffee, so we ate every morning in the t for 2, the food there was excellent.
Very quiet in this resort, you really need to hire a car to get round the island as there is only about 2 buses run all day. We went on a couple of trips, Turkey and Nisiros, these are worth going on.
Toni and Nicholas were really nice guys and make some great cocktails. There was a really good crowd of people and we all had a great holiday.
Try eating in the taverna called Hubs (great food). Weather was very warm but quite windy.
Will definitely go back to Zeus.

Jan 2007, Mrs Cm Holt

My husband and I had already visited Zeus, in Oct 2005.
I took my 15 year old son 2006; wondering whether or not he would enjoy himself, as it is a very quiet resort.
Much to my amazement he had a great time, very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel, and helpfulness of the staff. A most relaxing holiday he said.
Especially liked the trips out across the bay to the volcanic island, where we were joined by dolphins, the beach barbecue, lizard spotting, up to the mountain villages for a lovely meal watching the sunset, etc.
We used the local buses to get around, a few times, which was interesting, and once we had found a good restaurant, (there are many to choose from), on the beach front, we went there all week, service and food, very good.
I will be coming back in the near future, thanks to the staff at Zeus for helping to make a fab holiday, again.

This was our 1st visit to Kos which...

Jan 2007, Miss H Goldsworthy

This was our 1st visit to Kos which was recommended to us by friend's that have been a number of times and we enjoyed it very much.
Kosmar had a very cheap deal which we couldn't resist. The flight time's were during the night but realise this is usual when travelling to Greece. I can say though it is worth it.
The rep and driver were very welcoming when we eventually left the over populated and crowded arrival's area. Please note that the one and only shop at the airport would not take notes due to not enough change.

The hotel is in a quiet part of Kefalos, and is very nicely furnished with modern fittings built by the family who run it themselves.
It's only a short walk from the nearest beach, ruins, tavernas, bar's, hire shop and newsagents.
The hotel has a bar, pool and a small child's pool, a snack bar where breakfast is served. All rooms have air conditioning payable locally, hairdryer and terrace/balcony, and all with private shower, WC.

The resort was quite, but we liked it, although it was nearing the end of season.
Baywatch is on the beach front in the middle of the resort for water sports and George is sure to give you a bargain price for doing more than 2 sports.
There are plenty of place's to rent mopeds/quad bikes, car's etc to visit the rest of the Island and Kos town is a must - beautiful. Excursion shops are also scattered around the resort.
For an idyllic day at the beach, travel to the near-by Paradise beach to swim with the fish, soak up the sun and join in or may be watch some of the dare devilish water sports. A boat trip to a near-by volcanic island is well worth booking too.
During the night you can try a different tavernas/restaurant/bar every night as there's so much choice and would recommend the 'Aphrodite' restaurant for an evening meal and to try the local Greek food.
Hope this help's you enjoy a wonderful holiday in Kos, I'd definitely go back.
