" Viewtiful "

Arrived in the middle of the night greeted with an A4 sheet on block 2 of the hotel telling us our room number. Sadly we went to reception first and spent half hour messing about in the dark. This, however was the only snag of the whole holiday. The view from our room was the best we have ever had. The room was clean and had all the facilities we needed, (Kettle, toaster, A/C), the pool was large and clean with a cracking little baby pool for toddlers. Janet, Panos and family could not do enough for us and I can't believe anyone would describe her as rude. Can only imagine what that person must have done to make her that way. The hotel is set up on a hill, (Hence the amazing view) and is a fair walk from the resort but there is a mad minibus service, (Free) every couple of hours, (Last pick up 22.30), the resort itself is quiet but has plenty of Tavernas to choose from, (We only made 1 return visit in 2 weeks). Recommend the Dolphin Rock Bar for a last drink before tackling the hill at night, (Get a torch too). Don't bother going to old Kefalos village. It's gash and there's nothing there. The hotel barbecue and quiz night was also boss. A top hotel run by top folk in a lovely wee resort.

Advice: It's an easy swim to Kastri island. Nice beach, some fine tavernas overlooking the beach.

Activities: Captain John's, Syrtaki and the riverside cafe for sausage baquette with HP sauce

Good for: Beach

" Excellent! "

The hotel was just what was needed, basic but very clean and in good working order. The best views we've had anywhere we have stayed, spectacular! The food was lovely and reasonably priced- better than the restaurants in the town. The family we're all very kind and helped with everything we asked. The pool was great too. I cannot understand the bad reviews to be honest, in our stay I couldn't fault one thing.
All in all, we couldn't of asked for a nicer stay, a very welcoming hotel with lots of help on hand. I would definately go back!!!

Advice: Kefalos is great for people who like the sunshine without the stifling heat as it was always breezy!

Activities: Nyssros (spelling?) was the best trip

Good for: Beach

" An excellent holiday. Sited just... "

An excellent holiday. Sited just outside the resort was ideal for a quiet holiday. Janet and all who worked in the Pantheon Apartments were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was as good as any in the resort. Stunning views over the bay. Rooms very clean. A must is a trip to neighbouting island Nissyros and its villages and extinct volcano. Best value for money both me and my wife have had. Hope to go back sooner rather than later.

" Absolutely brilliant. we arrived at... "

Absolutely brilliant. we arrived at the hotel at 5am following a flight from Newcastle which arrived an hour early. Thomas Cook airlines have a lot of work to catch up with other tour operators they certainly pack you in, still the Pantheon has the best views I have ever seen.

The hotel has fantastic views at the front or the Kefalos bay, and the various nearby Islands absolutely stunning, and the views out of the back of the hotel are also stunning with views of another beach that is used by wind surfers

The hotel is run by the wonderful Janet who always makes time to talk to all guests and her tips and local knowledge certainly ensured we got the best from our holiday.

The hotel is situated at the top of a hill hence the fantastic views, can be hard to walk up, but the hotel runs a number of free trips into Kefalos. The bus is old and green and known locally as Thunderbird 2 and is certainly a great bonus and saves walking to and from the main part of the resort.

The rooms are a little basic but not unusual for Greece. The fellow guests were all very friendly and in the main British, the kids made great friends.

Kefalos is a lovely resort a little on the quiet side for people looking for a lively resort (Kardemena is not far away) but absolutely fantastic for people looking for a relaxing holiday. My advice would be to hire a car, the island is small and the roads are very quiet, and having a car would enable you to see all the island at little cost. There is a regular bus service to KOS which costs 4 euros and takes just under an hour and the bus stop is right outside the hotel

There are a number of restaurants in the resort offering a similar fayre, we loved Marias near the harbour but most restaurants have good value food served by very friendly staff, the food at the Pantheon is also very good

I understand that Thomas Cook will not be going to the Pantheon next year so I would recommend anyone who likes to book the holiday and flights separately that this hotel is definitely worth the effort. Short sited by Thomas Cook in my opinion as all my fellow guests are looking to return in the future

This is the most relaxing holiday I have been on with views that would take some beating anywhere in the world. We are looking to come back

" we arrived at the apartments in a... "

we arrived at the apartments in a thunderstorm in the dark and we were greeted by the wonderful Janet who runs the apartment with her husband Panos and his family. When we awoke the next morning we opened the curtains to the most spectacular views across the bay. The rooms are basic but clean and reasonably well equipped.
We had been to Kefalos before and knew what to expect. It is very quiet but very beautiful. Great food, people and beaches. Hire a car and go and explore this lovely island.

" We stayed for two weeks at the end of... "

We stayed for two weeks at the end of October 2007 and had a really relaxing holiday. Being the end of the season the resort was quiet, the lovely sandy beaches were also quiet with the sea being warmer than the swimming pool! The accomodation was more than satisfactory, and was in no way shabby or showing signs of 6 months of use. We had a two bedroomed apartment with sea views to die for, the dressing table mirror even revealed a sea view. To me a sea view is a must for any holiday accomodation, and or balcony gave us sea views through 270 degrees.

The hoteliers are very friendly and accommodating. The little green bus (Thunderbird 2) was run according to the time table, the lack of taxis in the resort came as a surprise to us, but local buses got us out and about. Paradise beach is well worth a day out, and is on the bus route from a nearby stop. I would recommend The Pantheon to anyone looking for a friendly and inviting home aboard. ould I go again? Yes, most definitely and shall I start packing now? Please!

" My partner and I have just returned... "

My partner and I have just returned from a week at the Pantheon and felt obliged to write a review to say how good our week was.

Like me, you have probably been reading all sorts of conflicting reviews about this accommodation, so I would like to add my (pretty reasoned) review to try and encourage others to stay.

Firstly, the accommodation...

We have stayed in all types of accommodation in Greece from 2* S/C to 4* hotels and to be honest I would rank Pantheon up with the best! The room was a great size, the bathroom clean and modern. The kitchen was well supplied including a kettle (a real find in Greece) and toaster and the views from the balcony were out of this world. The pool was a little cold (but we were late in the season) but was very refreshing after a laze in the sun and was always very clean and tidy.

The restaurant had a great range of food from 8am until 3pm and then again from 6pm until 10ish, and the prices were great. We had breakfast most mornings and couldn't fault the food. The Thursday/Sunday BBQ was fantastic too. Try the pizzas too, they are fantastic!!

and location...

It's probably worth noting that both me and my girlfriend are not afraid of walking and are in our 30's, so the walk into town was, to us, not that bad. It takes about an hour to walk down to the harbour, which by our reckoning is about 3 miles. But it only takes about 10 minutes to walk to the nearest supermarket ("Supermarket Jim") where you will be warmly greeted by the very friendly owner. The beach is also around 10 minutes via a footpath down the side of the Club Med Hotel. We walked into town quite a few times but, if tired or a bit worse for wear, "Thunderbird 2" was at hand to ease the return journey. The little green bus that the hotel run was great fun and provided an easy way to get right into the heart of town, by the harbour.

The resort of Kefalos.

We first visited Kefalos in 2000 and since then there has been a lot of building work and new bars opened. However, the numbers of people has dropped due, so I was told, to Thomson’s withdrawing from the resort, taking some 400 beds. However, even in late Sept/early Oct, the town is still busy enough to be inviting and friendly. Compared to many other larger Greek islands and resorts, (Rhodes, Zante, Crete, Kefanolia and Halkidiki being the ones we have been to), the prices in Kos are still low. A beer was typically 1.5-2 euros (real beer, mind, Mythos!) and most main means were around 5-7 euros per person. We ate handsomely and never spent over 30 euros for the whole meal (and that’s including a litre of wine) (hic).

Finally, trips.

If you only go on one trip - make it the sunset cruise. It was fantastic! A cruise with Capt Yiannis to the end of the island to watch the sunset, all the wine or ouzo you can manage and a BBQ on a private beach complete with Greek dancing lessons. Sheer heaven!

I hope this review has helped in some way and that you will give the Pantheon a try.

We loved it and will be back again soon.

" We have just returned from a 2 week... "

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Pantheon Studios and had a fabulous time. The owners are fantastic and go out of their way (especially Jan - who's English) to ensure your stay is perfect. The studios are fairly small but comfortable and come equipped with kettle, toaster etc.

The views from the Pantheon are amazing both during the day and night, I have many pictures of proof. Around the pool area is very comfortable and you do not struggle to get sun loungers - these are free along with sun brollies.

The food they serve at the Pantheon is also fantastic and would recommend the Lemon Cheesecake especially. As the studios are out of the main resort it isn't particularly suitable for the less mobile or young children. The owners do provide a courtesy bus but the last one back to the Studios is 10:30pm so if you are wanting a late night expect to walk back (takes approx 20-30mins).

Prices at Pantheon Studios for food, drink, fan hire and safety deposit boxes are very reasonable compared to other accommodations I have stayed in.

All in all a very relaxing place with a great atmosphere and you get very well looked after by the genuine owners; Jan, Panos, Babis and Maria.

" We spent two weeks at this wonderful... "

We spent two weeks at this wonderful place; the rooms were very basic but what more do you want on your holiday? If you are like us spending most of your time out of your room enjoying the views and sunshine, this is the place to stay.

It is run by a lovely family who could not do enough for you; nothing was too much trouble, you felt like part of the family.

The food on offer was good and reasonably priced.

We hired a car which I would recommend as you can access the town and visit the island which is wonderful. If not a regular bus is provided to take you down into the bay where there are some beautiful tavernas and restaurants.

If I was to return back to Kefolas, this would be the place for me.

" We first visited pantheon in... "

We first visited pantheon in September 2001, we had a wonderful time but were, like most other civilized people, effected by the images of 9/11 that were broadcast during our stay. We always said we'd like to go back and try it again. After 2 years visiting the Maldives, we have been spoilt by the people, the sheer beauty of the reefs and marine life, not to mention the tropical islands themselves, we thought of this holiday as a sort of 'poor relation' but are certainly richer for the experience.

We have just got back from two weeks at Pantheon and have had a wonderful time, the owners and their families have been very kind and welcoming, as previously mentioned, nothing is too much trouble. Since our first visit, there have been improvements, not least the restaurant area and outside seating on the terrace. I have been all around the bay and cannot find a better view than that from this accommodation, quite stunning. The pool is great too with ample room for guests and plenty of beds.

I struggle to find anything negative to say about this place, the accommodation is clean but modestly equipped, it is so cheap to eat out, we never ate in our room. If you don't like walking, get the free bus that runs several times a day from pantheon or hire a vehicle whilst you are there. If you really have difficulties walking, can't hire a car and wish to stay in Kefalos late, pick somewhere else, If you are looking for tacky, go to Kardamena for the 18-30 type experience.

We met some wonderful guests, you know who you are too, they gave us a great send off when we left and some superb memories from our fortnight.

The owners do work very hard to make your stay a pleasurable one, I do feel that anybody who is negative about this accommodation would be very hard to please wherever they stayed.

" For me the Pantheon has to be a... "

For me the Pantheon has to be a little bit of heaven on earth! I have stayed here twice, May 05 and May 06 and will be booking for next year.

The apartments are basic but very clean. I don't think you can beat the view across the bay from all the apartments.

The swimming pool is quiet and there are always plenty of free loungers available.
The people that run the Pantheon, Babis, his wife Maria, Panos and his English wife Janet are the nicest, kindest people you could hope to meet. They will literally bend over backwards to make sure your holiday is perfect.

The restaurant serves a good variety of very tasty reasonably priced meals.
There is a regular bus service from the apartments (10:00 am, 1:30 pm, 6:00 pm, 8:00pm, 10:00 pm and 10:30pm) which drops off and picks up in the centre of the resort. The bus stop is right opposite a very well stocked supermarket.

If you want somewhere peaceful where you can sit back, relax and just completely forget about everything back home then this is the place to go!

" The apartments are as stated were... "

The apartments are as stated were only 700m from beach, although nowhere could I find where they mentioned about abseiling down to it, the brochure says not suitable for people with walking difficulties but does not mention that if you didn’t before you will after walking up the hill to the apartments.
We have visited many Greek islands an have experienced their hills, so the one by the Apartments is not a small one.
The apartments sit on top of the hill at the airport end of Kefalos, just before the club med and have excellent views from all room over the west and east side of the island.
The one block has been open for ten years and the second block for five years, the block we were definitely showing signs of wear and tear, there are pipes running through all the bedrooms where the aircon has been removed and fans are available for rent.
Each room is basic and there is only two electric rings to cook, a toaster and a kettle so if you want baked or microwaved forget it!
As we were in pairs ( 6 of us went) we had exactly two of everything in the cutlery, but one pot, one frying pan and one milk pan, there was no skillet, no bread knife, although there was an abundance of corkscrews three in each room.
The bathrooms were smelling a bit from the drains although this may have been from the time of the year or the fact the cleaners were not very meticulous. They called every two days, the bed linen is changed once a week, although some of the blankets on arrival look as though they could do with a good wash, some of the mattresses were torn.
Other than that the accommodation was acceptable with a nice pool ( although this was ice cold and no one would go in it ) plenty of sun beds ( free) The reception area was tidy and the owners a Greek man and English woman were friendly and the apartments were a family run business.
There is a bus service provided by the apartments and it runs at 10am, 1.30pm, 8pm, 10pm & 10.30pm only to one stop which is the other end of Kefalos ( one of the things the locals did not like as no one from the apartments tented to walk far from where the bus dropped them, so they did not get much trade even though the apartments were closer to them than they ones where people from the apartments tended to shop / eat) It only drops off and pick up at same time and does run on time. If you want the beach before these times or want to come back between 1.30 and 8pm you have to walk.
There are a number of car hire companies in the village and two are Manos and trust, we hired two cars with trust, but on return they were very critical on their inspections although they found nothing they check underneath, mud flaps, bumpers, they did dispute the petrol level but because we were an hour early retuning them we just drove to the petrol station and topped them up with 3 euros each which they accepted ( to give you an idea the fuel is 98 cents a litre.
All in all if you want nice views and sit round the pool eat beans on toast and brought it with you a good place, however the nearest shop / supermarket is as stated only 600m away but its down the same hill so don’t forget anything as there is no shop on site to nip too.
" My boyfriend and I booked our holiday... "

My boyfriend and I booked our holiday a few months before we were due to depart. We wanted a cheap and cheerful holiday on a Greek Island, where we could spend most of the time relaxing, but some time exploring the sites. We were not disappointed - this holiday met all our requirements!

We thought it was a bargain when we booked it, but I will admit I felt a bit apprehensive when we landed in Kos, in case it was too basic. However, I needn’t have worried. The hotel was clean, the accommodation basic but with everything you needed for a self-catering holiday (particularly as we ate out most nights). The hotel owners were something else - in a positive way!

The hotel was owned by an English lady and her Greek husband (she has lived in Greece for over ten years now). They could not do enough for guests, but without being overbearing or intrusive. The hotel provided a money changing facility (commission free), fans for hire (we did not hire a fan as it was later in the season and with a high room you got a good breeze) and safety deposit boxes at a ridiculously cheap rate. The pool area was clean and safe, with free sun loungers and umbrellas. There was a restaurant at the hotel, which was priced the same as others in the resort. The barbecue (offered twice a week) was very good value for money.

We hired a moped for two weeks as the hotel was at the top of a hill (excellent views) and this allowed us to explore the island at our leisure (with tips from the hoteliers about where to go). We went on two trips organised by Thomas Cook and these were of a satisfactory standard (Nissyros and Turkey). However, the same trips could be booked directly at the resort for a much cheaper price.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable holiday and would not hesitate to go back to Kos and the Pantheon Hotel.
