Spent a week in Kefalonia earlier this summer. We were not impressed at all with the Nikos apartments. It was very small and rundown. As there is no lobby or reception area it was very difficult to talk to anyone about our concerns. When we found someone, she told us they only clean once during the week and that we could not even have clean towels in between. We decided to travel around the island and stayed elsewhere for most of the week. Marina Bay Hotel on Mounda Beach, near Skala, was wonderful!

Just returned from a fabulous week's stay at the Nikos Apartments, Lassi. (Not to be confused with the Nikos Studios - also in Lassi). Apartment was spacious and very clean and had a large balcony with a wonderful view overlooking the pool and the breathtaking scenery. We picked our car up from the airport and it only took ten minutes to find. A tip for others not using a coach transfer - still book in with the Thomson rep at the airport to get your room number, as there is no reception at the apartments. Along with another couple, we had no idea which room we were allocated until the friendly staff at the Olive Grove apartments opposite, contacted the Thomson rep for us. It was very peaceful and location is great for both Lassi and Argostoli. Plenty of restaurants in Lassi and great for shopping and sightseeing in Argostoli. Best Pitta Gyros in Argostoli. A car is a must to see this beautiful Island - Fiskardo, Assos, Sami. We first came to Kefalonia over thirty years ago and never tire of it, and would definitely use this accommodation again. We found the Eden bar in Lassi was very relaxing during the day with cooling water features and lovely gardens and friendly staff. Best meal we had was at Nefeli restaurant Lassi - Plaice stuffed with crab.

We got a cheap last minute deal to the Nikos Apartments with Thomson.
The apartments are basic which is as was expected. However whilst we were in Kefalonia there was a massive storm and our apartment flooded. Then our electrics blew. The complex doesnt have a reception desk so we then had to phone Thomson in the UK for them to then call the owners at the apartments who then arrived the next morning - after we had spent the night in the dark in a flooded apartment.
They sorted it out within the hour the next morning but it probably would of been sorted much sooner if there had been a reception on site.
Also had big problems with the toitlet which didnt flush. And the shower had no shower curtain and flooded the bathroom constantly!
You do get what you pay for. Apart from these listed problems the apartments are fine, but beware of the hill - views are magnificent but it's hard work to do during the heat.

Overall this is a lovely place to go, but if you are one of the unlucky people who gets Studios 13 or 14, be warned. These 2 studios are tiny, badly ventilated and stuck in a time warp. The bed in 13 is dreadful, we hardly slept for 2 weeks and the furniture is just dated and needs a complete refurb. All the other studios seemed to be fine and as advertised by Thomson.
The pool was OK, there were plenty of loungers, but there were always lots of bugs in the water.
If you choose to go here, speak to your travel agent to ensure you don't get stuck in 13 or 14. We complained as soon as we arrived, but there were no other studios available. The only option they gave us was to pay an additional £500 to be moved somewhere else. All in all it put a real damper on the holiday and we were happy to go home. The good thing that came out of it was that we felt like we have a palace at home;-)
Need to give a special mention to Tony, the First Choice/ Thomson rep. She was lovely and although she was not able to help us out of our missery, she did a good job at keeping us smiling. She told us that she is dreading the day that she reads her name on one of these website. So this one is for you Tony-you are a star!

Spent a week here and can't fault the views from the top of the Hill. Walking up the hill is the only downside, so opt for a taxi, at 5 euros it worth every penny. Nikos only has the Studio and Pool but use the Olive Garden over the road for the bar and meals.
Short bus or taxi to Argostolli for more tavernas and shopping. Would recommend taking the Island tours if you can - well worth it. Lots to see and do and still have time to sit an sunbathe.

This accommodation is absolutely lovely. We stayed at Nikos for two weeks July 09 and had the best time. Rooms are simple and basic, but all you need really. The view from all the apartments is stunning (facing West so you get a great view of the sun set every night). The pool is great (sometimes not that clean if I'm honest, lots of wasps and bugs in there) and it was so quiet that on some days it was just us and another couple around the pool.
You also get to use the pool bar & pool at Olive Garden opposite, which like Nikos is relaxed and lovely.
The (notorious) hill is a bit mental to be honest. As you are so high up you get such great views, but trying to carry bottles of water up the hill with temperatures in the 30's was really no fun. It will cost you 5 Euros to go up in a Taxi (ridiculously expensive).
There are so many beaches to choose from you are spoilt for choice!
And a tip - use Vagilate supermarket NOT the other ones on the main road. This is the cheapest by far!
If you are going to Nikos this summer - you are going to have a lovely time!

Best accomidation we have stayed in, in Lassi

We visited Nikos Appartments/Studios in Lassi, Kefalonia last July, and were amazed at what an amazing place it was for the money we paied. We stayed in the Studios, as there was only two of us, they were basic, but all we needed for our stay, as most of the time we were either at the beautiful Makios Galios beach (which was only about 15 minute downhill walk) or by the pool. We have stayed in a few other places in Lassi, but this was definatly a favourite! Our room had a cooker, fridge, places, cultery etc and a toastie maker, which was very handy for quick lunches and breakfasts! Our room also had a balcony with a lovely view overlooking the sea, which was lovely to look at when we woke up! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Air conditioning is available but at an additional cost of roughly (50 euros a week- if I remember correctly). The only, and I mean only bad side to the accomidation was that it was located on a very steep hill, which is alright to walk down, but walking up in the heat would be nearly impossible, but a taxi up only cost 5 euros, which was what we did most days. The accomidation dosnet have a bar, but literally across the road is another resort called Olive Garden, that is very welcoming and allows Nikos visitors to drink and eat in! This is definatly one of the BEST places we have stayed in in Lassi, and I would recommend it to anyone!

  • Holiday Date:Jul 2008
  • Advice: Beautiful place, sand and clear water beach, lots of places to eat and drink and very friendly
  • Activities: It is a must to do the glass bottom boat cruise excursion and visit the So Simple Bar on main strip!

We stayed at these apartments for 1 week in August 2006. Do not under estimate the hill. We are a young couple in our late 20's and found carrying water up this hill to be very hard work. (Use the taxis).
The flip side to being on top of the hill is the breath taking views from most of the apartments. (Not all).
Opposite is a complex called the Olive gardens which is very friendly and does great lunch or snacks.
The apartments are clean and tidy. They have good beds, hob, shower, and balcony.
Take some clothes pegs. The street has great restaurants and some nightlife if you look around. Overall not good for families but good for couples.

Just got back from a fortnight at the Nikos - we were very pleased overall.
The location gives fantastic views over Lassi & the coast. But be warned, the hill is very steep &, personally, I would recommend a car.
Not very good for kids either - the pool has no separate section & is around 4ft deep in the shallow end - plus all activities & entertainment is in town.
A quick mention for the Phaedra restaurant on Lassi's main road-excellent food & great value! Enjoy!

We spent a week at the Nikos apartments and were really pleased with the holiday overall. The apartments were basic, but of a good size and very clean. The pool was excellent, and the views from the apartments were amazing! Residents at Nikos apartments are welcome in the Olive Garden opposite, which has an alternative pool and bar.
The hill up to the apartments was the only downside to the holiday; although it didn't ruin the week in itself!
The resort and island is fantastic - very relaxed and laid back. The locals are friendly and there is a good range of bars and tavernas - although this isn't a place for those who wish for a busy nightlife!
Kefalonia is a Greek island which hasn't yet been completely adapted to suit us tourists - it maintains many typically Greek aspects which, in combination with the comfortable apartments and pool, made our time there most enjoyable!

Apartments fine, clean and well...

Apartments fine, clean and well maintained, swimming pool and sunbeds good.
Olive Garden apartments with pool bar right opposite and open to all very useful with fantastic views of sunsets over bay
The walk to the village is a good 15 mins down and 20 mins up and not a gentle incline as indicated it's steep especially late at night !
Beaches are sandy quite crowded but it was August. We found all the Tavernas good value and good food.
The Kosmar discovery Kefalonia Tour was pricey plus add-ons and pushed to the guides Tavernas that’s a few more Euros commission in my pocket thank you very much.
As usual Kosmar let you down with their end of holiday arrangements. Out of the apartments by 10.00 store baggage in spare room to 4.00pm then do what you can until you picked up ( in our case 9.00pm) and it's all in our brochure attitude.
But Kefalonia is an excellent holiday island for not too much excitement and wall to wall sunshine at about 95 degrees in August.
