Feb 2008, Miss C Butler

One of the best holidays I have ever been on and in fact went back the same year in September. The room was immaculately clean, there were places to go if you wanted an all nighter or if you just wanted to realax it was peaceful enough to do so.The owner and all the staff were amazingly friendly and happy to help with anything they could. Haven't been able to go back since that Sept but am planning to return very soon. The maids were excellent, they used to wait until we were out of bed to go into our room and it was just overall a great place to stay.

Well... where do we start.....? But...
1 / 10
Nov 2007, Miss HT/ CB Taylor, Berrington

Well... where do we start.....? But be careful when you arrive at the Calypso, I’d take a gas mask if I was you. Do not, we repeat do not stop in room 319. The smell that will hit you from the computer screen sized bathroom window will be enough to make a grown man whimper and cry. On many occasions we approached our rep, the owner and receptionist called us liars as they could apparently not smell the sewage-like smell! In fact, no word of a lie, us 17 yr old party animals were forced out of our rooms and we could physically not venture into the bathroom for the duration of the holiday. The time came twice a day when we had to hold our breath for 8 minutes whilst retrieving and using our toothbrushes. We found green mould sprouting in the sink, rusty ovens which later got slapped by a brown towel (to be explained later). Have they still not found Osama bin laden? We have... He likes to loiter around the lobby and occasionally take pictures at night, after telling you the "policia" are coming for you!
Don't even try bothering with breakfast, yoghurt or hard bread were the only options for the whole week...! That’s if you can get up at 7 in the morning! The brown towel.... We were shocked by the hotel maid as we innocently went to our room to collect sun cream, who barged in, rubbed a towel against the cupboards, and then slapped it on the oven then the floor with her foot. There were pooh stains on the towel which she pointed at and started shouting at us! She then went next door and started screaming and banging on the door shouting "touriste!" touriste!"- She then pointed at us continuously at us implying we were the smelly culprits that use towels as loo-roll.
If there are any more than 3 of you going away, don’t expect to get a sunbed or a better view than that of an anorexic orange lady who floats around the pool. Also, fancy being perved on by the 25yr old holiday maker? Taking a break with his friends and girlfriend, he will often spray you with a dirty sewage- ridden hosepipe! You will find a local boy called photos that will go for anything that moves.
There are no lively events apart from bars and drunken fellow friends who made the nights slightly more entertaining. The maid only ever tried to clean at 7 in the morning when we were asleep, waking us up, and just dumping the cream dirty sheets by our beds. It was terrifying to be woken by this monster every morning. The smell varies- reaching its peak at 3pm or early morning!
Overall, a hilarious experience sharing another bathroom whilst creating a monsoon due to lack of shower curtain. Be ready to sunbathe and swim on top of each other in this bird box swimming pool.
In all fairness we had a great time - just a few little points we thought we’d warn you about now you've booked or thinking of booking your holiday here. Warning - gas mask at the ready.

Sep 2007, Mr P Pain

Nice hotel which is apparently being totally refurbished next year. No real need though as everything is fine there. Staff are very friendly and will do the utmost to help any customers. We were unfortunate enough to have a ground floor room which had no view (but somebody’s got to I suppose!). It was quite noisy early on in a morning with people banging doors and kids making a noise (not the hotels fault obviously). Cleaners came early too but the mornings we weren’t awake, they came back later on.
Resort was fine, nice mix of people staying. Great range of bars, restaurants etc. We went during the Greek bank holiday which obviously makes it busy but even then there was no problem with "fumes" ruining meals!
Cheap and cheerful - don’t expect a 5 star luxury hotel but expect a great fun time!

The hotel was superb for the money, very clean and ideally located.
The staff can’t do enough for you and the prices are decent.
The resort has gone downhill but the beach is still great.
Overall a good holiday but needs improvement around the square.

May 2007, Mr K Fitton

We stayed for two weeks. The hotel was in need of updating on hygiene in the rooms.
A risk of infection from dirty shower heads to cockroaches in bath room, as you know there is a bin for toilet paper, the flip lid, broken. Had to lift by hand, not very hygienic so had to use toilet paper. The maid service was very good.
On the resort comment there is a lot of fumes from cars - motor quad bikes, mopeds and service vans. You can taste exhaust fumes 24/7 not very healthy.
The beach was shingly so wear sandshoes but good to sunbathe on. Very good for water sports.
The shops bars 10/10, this was my 2 visit but not again. The fumes spoiled your meals, the curfew on all cars, etc not enforced.

The hotel is in a great location close to the beach and resort centre. The rooms were basic but clean and had a very spacious balcony. The breakfast was continental there was eggs, bread, honey, Greek yogurt, watermelon tea and coffee etc. The pool area is nice although I never really sat round it as I enjoy the beach more.
The hotel offers entertainment including a Greek night which is very good. All in all this is a great hotel for a cheap beach holiday. I would recommend this hotel. The resort of Hanioti has a lovely square and some great restaurants and cocktail bars.

The hotel Calypso is tidy, well...

Sep 2006, Mrs E L Johnson

The hotel Calypso is tidy, well presented and carefully looked after. Yannis the owner is very friendly and caring towards his guests - example, when we were there a guest fell very ill and had to go to hospital, his wife was all on her own and Yannis and his family and the others who worked at the hotel were so supportive towards her when she really needed it.
I cannot speak enough of the hospitality shown to the guests at the Calypso. If you want a friendly, easy going holiday then this hotel is the place to be. I would definitely go back.
Plus the Greek night is ace!

Stayed at calypso hotel in August...

Aug 2005, Mr I Coomer

Stayed at calypso hotel in August 2005 found apartments to be basic but clean, maid service and staff very good all tried there best for you toilet would not flush on day it was fixed within the hour. The beach is at least a five minute walk away through the town centre and the walk back seemed a lot longer the main square offers a variety of bars and Tavernas but never got too noisy with music blaring out busiest times are sat nights when we went to the out skirts and found a nice bar called the horseshoe bar run by Costas and his wife here the drinks were cheaper the bar is totally outside with excellent music mostly from the sixties and seventies. The beach is long enough not to get to crowded and there are other resorts to visit. If you take a taxi be prepared for a long wait for them. Overall a very good holiday. P.s. Try to get apartments on the upper floor as downstairs can get noisy
