Ilian Beach has a great location - right on the beach in Missiria, a few miles outside Rethymnon. The apartments are not really geared up for families but perfect for couples - the pool area is nice and is generally quite quiet and peaceful. Tavernas and bars and shops just a few minutes walk away. The old town of Rethymnon is worth a visit but is further away than everyone says - it's a good 40 minute walk - but it's a nice walk along the beachfront, with bars and shops to break up the journey. If you don't fancy the walk, taxis are usually available at both ends of the road, for about five or six euros.
The studio apartment itself was kept spotlessly clean by a wonderful cleaning lady who came in every day except Sunday, with fresh towels every other day and clean sheets twice a week. The owners are all very friendly too - in general it's a lovely place that we would highly recommend.

We have just returned from two weeks in these superb apartments. They are very well furbished and finished and are immaculately clean both upon arrival and throughout our stay with bed lined and towels being changed every couple of days.
The owner is welcoming and friendly and I cannot reccomend the place too highly. We certainly hope to return there soon

The apartments themselves are fab. Spotless clean large and well equipped rooms with plenty of space by the pool and right on the beach. The owners are very welcoming and helpful.
The accommodation is in a mostly quiet area although the apartments next door are a little loud occasionally. You have to walk from the main road down to the apartments and while this is only about 400m it is through a bit of a rough looking area which can be daunting when you arrive at night. The complex itself is very clean, well presented but very small. (Don't expect to meet lots of people by the pool. When we stayed there was usually about 8 other people lounging most of the day).
The apartments back onto the beach so its literally 30 seconds walk to the sea. There are adequate tavernas within a 10 min walk of the resort although the centre of Rethmynon is a good 45 min walk away (or 5 mins in a taxi from the end of the promenade). If you are there to chill, relax by the pool, like the beach this is ideal. If you want more of a night life you should go for something closer into the town.

I was a first time visitor to Crete (my partner had been before but some considerable time ago) and, as such, we booked blind. However, we were very pleased with the accommodation at Ilian Beach. Whilst it was 'basic' the room and bathroom were of very good size and it was very clean (and kept that way).
Location-wise, it was ideal. Very close to everything you need but far away enough from roads not to be disturbed by traffic. However, the adjacent premises hosted a couple of party nights that kept us 'entertained' - where do they train these 'pub/club singers'? For a while but not too late on.
Rethymnon is a lovely place and a gentle 35-45 minute stroll (depending on how you feel) from the apartments. The main road is close by, taking only a few minutes to catch your flight connection service without too much hassle.
Summing up, if you want to go somewhere to act as a base for exploring Crete, Ilian Beach is first class. If you want to wake up with your breakfast already prepared, go to a hotel. If you don't mind doing your own or waiting until everyone's woken up, then this is the place. There's plenty of places to buy fresh food nearby.
We intend returning in 2007.

we have stayed at ilian for three years runnung now, i was a person who vowed never to go to one place all the time, but the ilian has changed that view forever. we are to return there this year for the forth time . it has everything you could wish for, its in a quite location but just a short stroll to lively bars and restraunts. the sunsets from along the front are to die for. one place i can highly recomend is the restraunt called la mare. two brothers run it they work from dawn till the next dawn and really are helpful but not pushy. the greek night there is very entertaining.last year we tookk my daughter and grandson and they have vowed to return there to. the only problem is finding a tour operator who does holidays there. so to make sure i get there i book flights, accomendation and transfer seperatly but its worth it
