Brilliant Hotel .... Brilliant Holiday :)
10 / 10
Sep 2011, ♥

me and one girlfriend booked a week in malia at the end of july and chose this hotel for its closeness to the strip, it is literally like 15 steps away down a side road! ended up staying an extra week because we were having such a great time!
the hotel was very clean and tidy and the cleaner came around everyday to do the bins. the towels and bedding wernt changed much but this wasnt really that bad. made good friends with many of the people at the hotel that we still visit months on and it is very sociable, the pool area is quite small but there was always enough room for everyone as it is quite a small hotel. we were so worried about having things stolen as we had heard stories but it was fine, we left our bags by the pool when we went to get food and the door was often left unlocked at night. the staff there are lovely and you find they become your friends aswell, our rep was so helpful and couldnt of been better! some dramatic things happened whilst we were over there and the staff and reps were so caring and were genuinly there to help. they also play music throughout the day and evening but you dont go to malia for the peace and quiet!
iv never written a review about a hotel before but i feel like this hotel is not done justice! definatly plan on going to malia and this hotel again at some point :) so dont listen to the bad reviews x

Great place for Teens!

WelshLass's photos of Mistral Hotel

I stayed at the Mistral in June 2011 with one other person and had a brilliant time!
The hotel is on the strip, which is excellent if all you want to do is party! It is noisy, though I never had a problem with sleeping, even when I was sober.
The only thing I did dislike about this hotel was that every morning, about 8 in the morning, after only 3 hours of getting in and getting into bed, we'd have people banging on our doors, though this is not the hotel's fault, however, I do feel staff should have tried to prohibit this.
The cleaning staff were lovely, however, I didn't like the fact we didn't get our bedding changed once, and you have to cater for yourself with such things like toilet paper. The bins were changed every day though.
The pool seemed to be clean, however, on our last day, we did witness the hotel manager pouring things out of bottles at the side of the pool into the water, which I found shocking, because most people would usually have alcohol in those bottles.
I do not recommend this hotel to families or elderly couples. This is a hotel for teens, and teens who like to party.
The hotel staff we lovely, however, I found that some were not very good at English speaking, therefore, trying to explains things to them became a lot harder than it should have been.
Our hotel rep was amazing! He came to see us every day. He made sure we were happy and encouraged us to take part in the 2wenty's activities.
Overall, I rate this hotel an 8 because although it was great, I had concerns after seeing the manager pouring iquid out of the bottles into the pool and disliked the noise from other visitors.

  • Advice: Definitely get out there and party!

Small & simple. Perfect Location.
9 / 10
Jul 2011, Maliaaaa

Came here in July 2011 with a group of friends, had such a good week!
(Hotel)
Good points:
Felt confident that things were secure - i.e. the cleaner was trustworthy as well as other guests. Like left bags (with cameras/money in) around the pool while went out for lunch, left doors unlocked some nights while asleep
The hotel was in a great location! Literally a road off of the strip, 1 min away! So dont have to stumble far after a night out :)
Shower worked well (a common problem in lots of hotels)
Despite what other reviews said i saw no rats or crockroacks etc!
Bad points:
Pool area is very small! Only around 20 sunbeds and little room to walk around the pool while they were all down. The pool itself was small also, however clean.
Some rooms experienced problems with their air con.
BRING YOUR OWN TOWELS (2+ at least) as only get 2 tiny ones in the room and they didnt get changed all week. Also have to replace your own toilet roll - only get one on arrival.
Overall, basic accomodation but great for a clubbing holiday with friends especially due to location.

  • Advice: Take your own towels and toilet roll! & Maybe ear plugs if you cant sleep with loud music!

8 lads went out to Malia july 2010 and had an amazing time. We didnt really know what to expect after reading some of these reviews, but was happy that we booked here. The rooms are very basic but it is all you need if your going on a holiday with mates, a bed and a bathroom. The hotel is right next to the strip with two of the best bars just outside the hotel which was always a gd place to start. Although it was right next to the strip we didnt think it was too noisey late at night. But you dont really go to this sort of place to go to bed early. There is a security guard there so you cant have anyone round who are not staying in the hotel, even for a drink before you go out which was a bit annoying. But the guard was a ledgend and you could have a gd laugh with him. Most of the rooms have a small balcony which face each other which is good for meeting people and having a few drinks before going to the strip. I deffinately wouldnt recommend the hotel, or the resort for families or a couple looking for a romantic week away, however if you are looking for a laugh with some mates this is a great place to stay.

Stayed in Mistral Hotel for a week (September 2009)
Rooms are VERY basic, Bathroom is horrendous toilet seat felt like it was going to break and the shower was very small, the floor got wet everytime, the towels they provided are like hand towels ... i had to use my beach towel to dry myself (and the cleaners don't change the towels or bedding.)
You have to pay for air con and there's no safety deposite!
Only good thing about the room is the fridge as it's a reasonably size.
The sunbeds are very close to the pool and one night we saw a RAT "playing" on the grounds!!!!!!!!!!!! So we went to the beach every day.
Hotel staff DON'T speak english and not very helpful- as we where leaving we had to get our own passports from behind the reception desk (which could of been anyone!)
It is very close to the strip and if your home early on night time you can still hear the music from around 6am !

right on the strip, nice staff

me and my friend went to malia in august for a week and stayed here.
At first after we got dropped off at the nmcdonalds we were pointed up the street but couldnt find it as it was down a side street facing the nightclub babylon. So after help from a lovely boy at one of the quad bike hire shops we found it. So its to signposted.
there is only a field beside it but your right on the strip practically as in 12steps away.
The rooms were quite small and basic but as we are only in our 20s and there to party we didnt mind. The shower is really really small , no curtain and its like a stand in one in the bathroom,. right next to the toiletpan. You dont get clean sheets, infact i got biten loads over there and so did most people I met so I asked for clean sheets 3 days before we were leaving as they hadnt been changed. you didnt get any toilet roll and the first few days we got clean towels but after 4 we never got any which wasnt good.
the cleaner also left us a note as our towels were dirty the second day but were girls , we wear make up so ofcourse they will be dirty.
Our room faced onto another hotel which i think was a 18-30, lots of people were up partyign as there security guard didnt seem around so bare this in mind if you are booking here as only a few rooms face over the entrance.
the staff were nice, quite quiet but still friendly, bar food is nice and pool is small but so is most apartments in malia.
Mali was a great place and i would recommend it to any young people, anyone a bit older i would recommend satying in hersonnissos as malia is fuill of young people and full of bikes and quads racing all day.
LOVED CLUB UK when we were over, they even gave us free drink when we were there which was always nice.
Only thing to bare in mind is malia has a strick law about bringin people back to apartments- never seen any goings on when we were at mistral but there is a skinny tall security guard at night. We met boys from our apartment who said they got beat up of albanians for trying to go back to a hotel so if in doubt go to the beach lol

GREAT! in a perfect spot for the strip, the beach and places to eat out. rooms are clean, spaceous and tidy. Big balcony. Great power shower!!! pool is smallish but still really good. good for sunbathing around pool. bar serves good food through day. couldnt ask for a better location. staff where very very nice and the security was good. beach is around a 5-10 min walk down hill. is close to the bars and clubs so for people wanting any early nights or nights in i wouldnt advise this hotel as all you can hear is music!

would defo recommend to young people. would defo return!!!! great hotel. great place

What ever you do dont book here. We got no sleep, people kicking the apartment doors, fighting, shouting, loud music and there is no security well there is a security guard but he does nothing.
We tried to get moved after first 6 days but olympic could do nothing, they said there was nowhere to stay in the whole of crete,I DOUBT THAT,and we had to stay
there for the remainer of the holiday.
This hotel is utter rubbish.
DO NOT STAY HERE.

Jan 2008, Miss Chloe Dodd

I really enjoyed the time I spent in Malia from August 14-21. The Mistral apartments were perfectly located for me as it was just off the main strip right near the nightlife.
The room apartment was small and basic but was manageable. The hotel staff were very helpful as when we first arrived there was some sort of lizard in our room and it was dealt with straight away. The security guards were a little bit of a pain but just ignore them!
I would definitely recommend the Mistral apartments as I thought they were very clean (well until we got there of course!). I met some amazing people who were also staying in the Mistral and just chilling by the pool in the day listening to the music having a laugh was some of the best times!
Would definitely go back tomorrow!

The apartments where great very basic but has everything you need the rooms are very small but we didn’t find this a problem.
The staff was great Tony was always there to help and George was great too.
We found the location of the apartments great as it was only a 2min walk from the strip so there was no chance of getting lost.
The only thing we did have a problem with was that we only got our bed sheets changed once during our 2week stay we did request to one of the members of staff that we would like new sheets but this never happened.
We loved Malia and the apartments that much that we have already booked for next year.
