We had read some worrying reports on this site regarding the cleanliness of this resort and also about the attitude of the people running it. This was a worry prior to our departing and lead us to contact the resort direct and make some enquiries for ourselves. The owner,... more

If you have already booked at Tazmania and you're not returning for the ump-teenth time, then it's too late to back out so on the positive side of things....... There was plenty of hot water. The bedding & towels were clean (tatty but never the less clean). We did not... more

I have never written on one of these review sites before. Never really felt the need to. We stayed at Tasmania Village for one week in May 2007. The accommodation is basic but it is refreshingly honest, warm water, clean towels, balcony, view of the bay etc. For the money... more

Tasmania Village studios are really beautiful, as is Elounda; there was even a shower curtain. Only thing we missed was a kettle. The staff are friendly; pool is small but has great view. Our room sadly was one of the bottom rooms so not much of a view but was ok for a... more

Tasmania is clean and well maintained. The pool is small but there was enough sun beds and umbrellas. Great sea views from the front apartment (no 8). Studio basic - 2 ring hob, fridge with ice box compartment (not brilliant but worked) - no kettle. Towels and sheets... more

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Elounda (2 adults & 2 Kids age 8 & 6) It is my third visit to the resort and must admit its charm never disappoints. This was our first stay in Tasmania and we to were in apartment 23. Ok, there is a lack of windows yes, but... more

Our apartment (No. 23) was located at the top of the slope, behind the bar and pool area. It was spacious, as it was meant to sleep four people, but as we were only two, we benefited from having the extra "living room". The apartments below the pool looked much more... more

It was a lovely place to stay with great view, our room had a sea view which was beautiful (think it was no. 2). Took about 20mins to walk into centre but the paths and lighting was good and about 5 mins in a taxi. The apartments were basic as are all in Greece! But they... more

Tasmania - Disappointing
We have just come back from Crete on 24th of Sep. Overall we had a good holiday but we agreed we would never go back to the Island. The accommodation is rated 'A' in the Kosmar catalogue ( which is the highest rating ) but..... We were told we were lucky to get a room in the new part of the building despite our room was run down. The bathroom was very slippery as there was no shower-curtain and the water ended up in the middle of the room making it hard to walk on. We were told off using towels as a bath mat!!! The kitchenette is far too small to cook for 2 person and the cutlery and plates were filthy. There was no dishwasher liquid or sponge to use not mentioning a kitchen towel if we were cooking. The impression overall was that the owners of Tasmania just try to get away with as little as possible. The owners also seemed clicky favouring returning guest. Overall impression of the holiday nice for swimming and walking not as great if you are looking for friendly Greek people who want you to return. Go to Kefalonia instead !!!!
relaxing holiday
Feel compelled to write this following previous reviews. Just Returned From 2 Weeksat this resort had a wonderful holiday resort was fantastic with beatiful views from apartments. Yes older apartments are basic but kept clean and regular changes to linen and towels. George and Maria were perfect hosts julie kosmar rep was great, food at Greek night was fab would def return to Elounda and Tasmania. ) from george and olivia the howards and wingles..
Good Resort, Bad accommodation
The resort we found to very good in every way. Our only niggle was that it was too large for our tastes as we prefer small, one-mule villages. That said we were able to do all the activities we normally wish to do. The weather was hot and sunny though apparently unseasonaly so. The people were as is usual in Greece, friendly, helpful and welcoming. This resort is well worth visiting though I am not sure it is a good place to take children as the beaches are small and get crowded with sunbathers. Out of Elounda along the coast the beaches are tiny the beach near our accommodation is about 150 metres long and about 10 metres deep! We had however a rather grim time with the accommodation and then with the tour operator over compensation. The Tasmania Village has a large number of returnees and they seem to get the best rooms. The room (no. 20) we ended up in could only be descibed as a dugout, from which we looked out, with our heads at ground level along a dirt patch to a concrete wall, from a hole in the ground which was half the size as the balconies of the other rooms. The room was small and not well appointed. We tried to get a shift to the new accommodation but this part of the site was not available to Kosmar customers we were told. On the last we did speak to a couple who came by Kosmar and were staying in the new part! We did try to make the best of it until the mouse appeared on my bedside table and we were forced to move to new accommodation at our own expense as the owners would not move us to another room. The move to Kavos Bay was very fortunate as we had a large room with a wonderful view and well appointed. To get Kosmar to refund our costs for the change of accommodation was difficult and took the intervention of ABTA to resolve the issue in our favour. To sum up, go to Elounda avoid Kosmar and do not go to Tasmania Village.
Nice affordable location
We stayed here for a week and were upgraded to one of the new apartments which are above the bar area. The owner (Anna) is really friendly and helpful and made our stay very pleasurable. OK - not the Ritz, but a nice 2 - 3 star apartment with facilities (small pool, bar etc) Yes it is a pleasant 20 minute stroll to the village, but at night by moonlight it is very romantic. Dont let the walk put you off. Vaccus is easily the best restaurant in Elounda. We have been 3 times and tried them all! In all, give it a try. We will stay there when we go back to lovely Elounda.
Putting record straight
The accomodation was excellent. due to some adverse reports we had some concerns. However we found that the appartments were spotlessly clean the bedding and towels were clean and were in good condition. The bathroom was lovely, brilliant shower. we were in the New appts but I took the trouble to ask people who were in the older appts what they were like and these are people who are Very fussy about where they stay and all reports were good in fact these couples go back every year and stay in the older appts. The setting is beautiful stunning views. The swimming pool is great clean loads of sunbeds with umbrellas and with a brilliant pool bar good food and lovely service. The owners Maria and Anna are Ausie greeks and looked after us like family. The resort is a an easy 20 minute stroll where there are numerous restaurants coffee bars etc and lovely beaches. We are booking to go back next year. Pete
Fantastic Holiday - putting the record straight
What a relief to find - after reading the reviews for Tasmania after booking, we were abit worried about what we would find. It couldn't have been more wrong!! There were terrible reports of dirty, torn linen, cracked tiles, unhelpful and rude owners and worse for wear! We arrived to find beautiful clean studio with clean linen and towels. (Which were changed during the week). Maria and George were the friendliest most accommadating hosts, who were there to ensure things were ok. Guests who had been visiting for years were there. The visitors book proves that this is definately a great place to stay and some of those reviews should be published! The whole complex including the pool was clean and tidy. The resort is picturesque and very romantic. There was plenty to see and do in the area which we took advantage of. The view from our room was spectacular. Eating places were varied but our favourite was 'The Avli' on the way out of Elounda to Tasmania Village. The only draw back is the hill at the side of the apartments but heigh-ho it didn't spoil our holiday just helped us keep fit!!!! I suppose it is a very mountainous country so you shouldn't expect anything less - (a ski lift would be good though!) We enjoyed late nights chatting and laughing with our hosts and other guests and the only bad thing was having to pack up and come home. Thanks for a great time Maria and George. great apartments
we found the apartments to be very clean and fresh looking we were in the newly built ones at that time yes it was a fair way to the town but was very scenic and could find a private spot near the sea.we found the kosmar staff very helpfull and always around and are goin bak to the same place in year 2006
just got back
Location was some distance from centre of elounda but was not an uncomfortable walk as it was flat. Appartments were very basic and rather tired, tatty bed linen had holes in and towels were old and grey. Cooking facilities were inadequate and cramped. Bathroom was in need of maintainance and a number of guests encountered problems linked to sewerage blockages causing unpleasant smells throughout the complex. Pool was clean but small and difficult to swim in with any more than 2 people in it. Staff were very clicky, favouring people on return visits. This, and in particular, the ongoing aggressive and unhelpful attitude of one of the proprietors, Maria, led to not just ourselves but a number of other guests choosing to spend their time and money in more welcoming surroundings. All in all, we enjoyed good weather, adequate accomodation with a wide variety of amenities within the village. It is a shame that the attitude of one person can so severely damage the enjoyment of the holiday. On a positive note, we understand that the appartments are run in the earlier part of the season by Maria's Sister; we would reccomend that you check before booking that Maria is having a holiday herself!!
Tasmania-itis
Just returned from our second trip to Tasmania Village (June 04) Agreed the complex has seen better days, and the bathroom/showers need some upgrade. There is a need for a car, and if you book early enough this can be overcome. Pool is freshwater and clean, friendly staff. We too noted the brand spanking new apartments, well done out, but not as yet on the Kosmar listing! Come on Kosmar get your finger out and add these to your list.
run down, but clean
Have just returned from Tasmania Village Apartments, which are advertised as Elounda, but are in fact a good 15 to 20 minute walk from Elounda itself. The studios here have certainly seen better days, especially the bathrooms which had many cracked and broken tiles. There are some new apartments on site which looked quite nice but all seemed to be empty. My advice would be to wait until they are ready or stay somewhere else.
