We had read some worrying reports on this site regarding the cleanliness of this resort and also about the attitude of the people running it. This was a worry prior to our departing and lead us to contact the resort direct and make some enquiries for ourselves.
The owner, Anna, was very helpful and obviouslt not pleased to hear about the resorts and did her best to put our minds at rest, but not surprisingly, we still had reservations about our holiday. How wrong could we have been! The room was excellent. Very well appointed, although basic (what do you need for a beach/pool holiday), very clean with fantastic views out to the sea. Anna, the owner, couldn't be a better host and does everything she can to ensure you have everything you want. the rooms are reguarly cleaned and the pool/bar area very welcoming and also immaculately clean.
Having made initial enquiries, I apologised to Anna at the end of our stay and promised to write this report to set the record straight about Tasmania Village.
We have already committed to returning next year and we can't wait to visit Anna and her brother, Manolis, again.

If you have already booked at Tazmania and you're not returning for the ump-teenth time, then it's too late to back out so on the positive side of things....... There was plenty of hot water. The bedding & towels were clean (tatty but never the less clean). We did not experience any unpleasant wildlife in or around our apartment. The pool/bar area is clean and well manned, but make sure you adhere to all the rules & signs or you will be told off, loudly! If you're lucky you will get a new apartment or one with a view, however if you have booked with Kosmar for one week only you will almost certainly get a dungeon room with no view at all, but on the bright side, it will stay cool. Keep the plug in the sink to try & avoid the nasty smell. Take your own mop head for the bathroom so you don't have to use the dirty wrank one that's already there. Take some toilet paper. Take some extra bin bags for your soiled toilet paper & throw it away in the wheelie bin as you leave each day, because it will not be done for you. If you order a Greek Salad ask for olives or you won't get them. When you arrive it will be very late, you will have had a long journey to Elounda and Tazmania is the last drop-off, the rep will abandon you and the bar will not be open, you probably won't want to make the long walk back to the supermarket so take someting to drink and eat (you'll need a drink of you get a dungeon room!) Hopefully these hints will help you to get off to a good start, after all it's your holiday, you've earnt it. So just ignore all the negative stuff and enjoy all the rest that beautiful Crete has to offer. It's just bad luck you choose Tazmania. HAPPY HOLIDAYS.........

I have never written on one of these review sites before. Never really felt the need to.
We stayed at Tasmania Village for one week in May 2007.
The accommodation is basic but it is refreshingly honest, warm water, clean towels, balcony, view of the bay etc. For the money we were more than happy.
The pool was clean, deep and cooling on a raised deck looking over the bay with a cooling breeze and at nightime the stars are amazing. But the best part of the pool/bar area is Maria the owner. She is there from 9am until you decide you want to go to bed. She is like beaver (that happens to be a brilliant cook), and never stops working. She is funny, genuine and bright and helpful, it is honestly a bit like having a friend in Crete.
The complete opposite to most of the holiday reps I have encountered. (She and her husband own the place and they care). She will point you in the right direction, tell you the best bits, the bad bits, where to eat, the best beaches, recipes, stories, local history, taxi’s, etc. At the end of the day when you drive up the steep driveway and hear laughter around coming from the bar it does feel a bit like you’re coming home. Her presence (and her husband George) made every other apartment block we have stayed in seem like they were missing something.
Elounda is beautiful and a great base to explore northeast Crete. If you want gated five star luxury with your own helipad and infinity pool - there is an amazing place down the road called the Elounda Bay resort where rooms can cost more than £1000 a night.
But if you want a clean, friendly and affordable place with something special we reckon you can’t do much better than Tasmania Village. It’s cool!
(By the way we were in the older section of the complex.)

Tasmania Village studios are really beautiful, as is Elounda; there was even a shower curtain. Only thing we missed was a kettle. The staff are friendly; pool is small but has great view. Our room sadly was one of the bottom rooms so not much of a view but was ok for a weeks stay.
Only thing we didn’t like was the flight there and back from Newcastle which was with Flyjet and was awful, cramped, with no TV and you had to pay for an awful meal or sandwich. My advice if you must fly with them take your own food and entertainment, and don't do it if you're tall.
Also only other problem with Elounda is it's a long transfer from the airport, took us 2 hours as we went round every other resort first, but still is a lovely place.

Tasmania is clean and well maintained. The pool is small but there was enough sun beds and umbrellas. Great sea views from the front apartment (no 8). Studio basic - 2 ring hob, fridge with ice box compartment (not brilliant but worked) - no kettle. Towels and sheets only changed once in a week. Mop bucket and dustpan and brush provided.
The only draw back is the checkout time. This is 12 midday with a late checkout at 20 euros until 5.00 pm. This is early when you have a very late pickup as there is nowhere to shower - just a toilet and sink to freshen up in.
Maria and George were running the apartments while we were there but they do split the time with George's brother.
The walk from the Tasmania into the village is about 20 minutes but it is all flat and a lovely stroll whatever the time of day.
The supermarkets in the village are quite cheap but the ones just up from Tasmania were dearer.
Elounda a great village. Plenty of bars and taverners to choose from. The ferryman Taverner (round the harbour along the sea front - the last but one - can't miss it) serves excellent food and service was brilliant. For a good night try Garden of Eden Cocktail Bar in the main square - great for people watching.
Crete itself is a lovely place. It can be very hot (temperatures up to 45 - 47 degrees while we were there - even the locals were complaining it was too hot - but this was unusual for this time of year).
Would go to Crete again and would stay at the Tasmania.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Elounda (2 adults & 2 Kids age 8 & 6) It is my third visit to the resort and must admit its charm never disappoints.
This was our first stay in Tasmania and we to were in apartment 23. Ok, there is a lack of windows yes, but this just helps to keep the room cool during the day and we spent so little time in there that it really didn't matter. The veranda view is beautiful too looking right across the sea & mountains with a great view of Spinalonga!
On arrival we found our room spotless, clean and fresh smelling. The bathroom was immaculate with modern fixtures & fittings. (Do beware of the shower which sprays the whole floor when you use in it making it a bit slippery). Our bedding & towels (plenty of them) were glowing they were so white and the sink / hob & fridge also looked new. We were also provided with a mop & bucket, sweeping brush & dustpan.
The air con is charged at 40 euros but worth it and the safety deposit box 5 euros which is refunded on return of the safe key.
We only saw Anna briefly as the running of the place is divided between herself & Maria her sister in law but she seemed friendly. Maria, George & her family were lovely nothing was too much trouble. The food in the pool bar was basic but very nice.
The pool was clean & well maintained with enough beds & umbrellas to go around.
Elounda Square is about 2k from Tasmania but is all beside the sea & a pleasant walk. A taxi is 4 euros and Maria will gladly order one for you.
All in all I would highly recommend Tasmania village and I’m sure anyone planning a trip there will be pleased & have a lovely stay.

Our apartment (No. 23) was located at the top of the slope, behind the bar and pool area. It was spacious, as it was meant to sleep four people, but as we were only two, we benefited from having the extra "living room". The apartments below the pool looked much more attractive - lighter and more welcoming.
The accommodation was very basic, no frills, just an all-in-one fridge, two ring stove, sink unit (no kettle!), the beds, a table and chairs. My biggest objection to our apartment was the lack of windows! There was one, on the side of the building in the main room, overlooking a wall, and that was all, the overall feeling was of darkness and was quite claustrophobic. If you can specify an apartment number, don't go for a room over No.20!
Generally the complex was very clean, although our room was only cleaned once during the week, which involved changing the sheets and towels. This isn't really often enough bearing in mind the "problem" with Greek plumbing!! Anna was fantastic - couldn't do enough to help and will make you feel very welcome, and also cooks a good English breakfast. (That said, the best we had been in the Cypriana in Elounda town - €3). Air conditioning is quite expensive - €6 per day or €40 for the week, but as it was very windy in early July, we didn't need it.
The pool area was not huge but was well maintained, and there were enough umbrellas and sun loungers while we were there - but may be a bit of a problem during a really busy week. Elounda has a few good municipal beaches if you prefer a beach. The coastal path along to the town shows a good range of rocky places to try snorkeling, and be sure to look for the snakes! I'm assured they're harmless.
The nearest supermarket is a good 20 minute walk, so be sure to stock up on essentials. Anna has water for sale, and can do snacks, but you need to plan for anything else.
One other minor gripe - you get one roll of toilet paper when you arrive, and anymore have to be bought! Seemed a bit mean to me.
Overall it was a nice place - and we really enjoyed our week. I didn't rate Kosmar very highly, but then I didn't really need them while we were there anyway!

It was a lovely place to stay with great view, our room had a sea view which was beautiful (think it was no. 2). Took about 20mins to walk into centre but the paths and lighting was good and about 5 mins in a taxi.
The apartments were basic as are all in Greece! But they were clean and a great base for our holiday, I would recommend it to anyone visiting Elounda! We had a great holiday here!

Just come back from a week in Taz. Went with mixed feelings after reading reveiws. All as i can say is I don't know what some people expect. Found the room to be very clean if you needed extra things like toilet paper do what we done and go and buy some if you need rubbish putting out go the bin and do it. The place was amazing George and Maria could not do enough to help you, Maria's cooking was brilliant. Just trying to book to go back. Go you will love it.
