From the age of 5 I went to Virginia studios and apartments every year for 7 years, every year it changed a little but it was always the best holiday, friendly people and great owners who always looked after us.
With its fantastic sea views and short distance from beaches and the main town. Every year that you go there you are promised a great memory or two.
It’s an easy going beautiful place, no pushy interrupting owners they let you get on with your holiday as you want to.
I haven’t got a bad word to say and hopefully will be going back there this year.

Another fantastic holiday at these apartments, this time we found that the other occupants were French, Dutch and German - it was not exclusive to Brits.
This in my opinion made it better, they wanted to learn about the way of life in the U.K and vice versa for their countries.
There is no mini market there but I blame Kosmar for this for still advertising in their brochure. Our room was cleaned every other day, although sheets changed once a week as was the towels. But if you wanted them changed a bit more regularly you only had to ask.
Yes the hotel was shut of a night but most people have mobiles for emergencies. We will be going back to enjoy yet another great holiday, this time we hope to take all the grandchildren.

Save your money and book elsewhere, anywhere. As we all know Crete is beautiful as are the people who live there. We even expect, by our standards that accommodation there can sometimes be questionable, so we make allowances. But the Virginia apartments takes the biscuit. The accommodation was not only unhygienic but unsafe.
I am so amazed to read that so many other people on this website experienced the exact same issues as us! What I am extremely angry about is when you come home and complain to the tour operator they just don’t want to take you seriously and make you feel like a moaner.
When we spoke to some locals and taxi drivers there, they confirmed that they had heard that people had not been comfortable staying there. You've been warned!

This was our first holiday to Crete. These apartment's are in very poor condition. The brochure stated that there was a mini market which there was not. The linen was only changed once in a 2 week stay. The bathroom was appalling to say the least. The kitchen area was a health and safety risk and we did not use the small oven at all during our stay as it was filthy dirty and I am sure would have given me an electric shock had I plugged it in.
We did use the fridge out of necessity but it was not clean and the ice box was completely frozen and could not be opened.
The plug's were very unsafe and every light bulb in the apartment was just a bare bulb hanging from the ceiling.
The apartment was not cleaned properly the whole 2 weeks that we were there and I took to looking for the cleaners bucket and mop and trying to clean the floor myself.
I would not recommend this apartment to any one at all in fact it was the worst holiday apartment that we have ever stayed in.

When me and my family went to this lovely, family run hotel. First impression, after carrying our suitcases up the hundred steps to the top apartment, was how clean and quiet it was. Spacious apartment, two bed rooms, lounge, kitchen and shower and toilet. There were stunning views from the apartment, sea, hills and the lovely view of Agnik.
The bar area served very nice food delicious wine(local).
Always a lovely clean pool, which you could just jump in after a nice day walking up the lovely mountains.
A hire car was in the price of the holiday, which we used every day, to explore the surrounding area. Agnik had at least six beaches all clean and well kept, numerous restaurants which were all reasonably priced, cheaper restaurants as you go further in to the town itself.
Top notch place, been there 3 years on the trot now. It’s GREAT!

My cousin and her brother and sister, mother, father and I went to Virginia hotel which has stuck to our minds how beautiful the view was and how good the owners were (Mr Costas and his wife). It was a very quite place for people who want to relax.
If we want a night out only 15 minutes walk near to the beach. The town was only 2 euros with taxi. The owners provided us often with fresh fruits like figs, pickle fruits and grapes from there own fruit orchard free.
They also gave us champagne on my uncle and aunties wedding anniversary as a gift. They made us feel like we were family. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE!
We thank you very much Mr Costa.

I stopped here in 2001 and it was great then although not much night life there was plenty of nice little tavernas etc and shops and a beach within a 20 min walk. Good exercise!
Taxis were cheap as chips! Not sure what it is like now but I would recommend it to families and couples. Lovely balcony views of the sea!

Not our first time in this area of Crete but the first time we’ve stayed at the Virginia apartments in Amoudara(Agios Nikolaos).
We new it was a quiet area and it looked so nice and sounded so friendly in the brochure, so we booked it. BIG MISTAKE.
We arrived about 0530 in the morning, the place was deserted and all in darkness.
The Kosmar rep went off looking for the keys to our apartment with a little torch giving off no more than a candle light, leaving us to fight our way up the hill and steps to the apartments.
We had a couple of hours sleep and when we woke and pulled back the curtains the views from our balcony were outstanding.
Then we came to shower, OOOPs the shower head was out of the 1950s and tied up with wire.
No hot water for showers or washing for 5 days.
Only after constant complaining we got a hot shower on the 5th day.
Next day ,cold water again.
After complaining again we were told that we could use the shower in another apartment.
Only 1 change of bed linen a week.
We had a couple of cool days while staying here and reached into the top of the wardrobes for blankets which we found to be full of dust and smelt fousty.
They were also full of something else, don’t know what.
Whatever it was, it left us with nasty little bites.
(Dust Mite or Fleas)
Our apartment was not cleaned for the whole 2 weeks of our stay.
We had to go away from the hotel to eat because it was very often shut or very limited choice of menu the few times it was open.
The mini market was a joke, bottled water was about the only thing they had in it.
If you wanted to sit on the veranda at the bar sipping a nice cool drink listening to the waves thrashing against the shoreline in the evening, you would need to be back early to do so, as it was all locked up and everyone had gone home by 10pm.
None of the family lived on site, so when it was all locked up you would not have been able to get to the public phone or get hold of anyone in an emergency.
When we pointed this out to the Kosmar rep she replied while chomping on her gum, there's a public phone just down the road.
We walked to that phone, it was almost 2 miles away.
We had a family from Bristol move in to the next apartment
For the last three nights of our stay.
The children were well behaved and we never heard the wife but the father, WELL He played Elvis records far to loud and his language was vile.
We heard every thing he said through the concrete walls, and it kept us awake.
But that wasn't the worst of it.
WE JUST HOPE SOMEBODY SOON TELLS HIM THAT HE DON'T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE ELVIS AND HE DON'T SOUND ANYTHING LIKE ELVIS.
Will not recommend this place to nobody.

Arrived 05:30am, Rep had a small torch to guide us. Rooms were spacious (2 bed apt.)THATS THE GOOD POINT.
No hot/warm water to freshen up.
Nothing in the shop(A joke to call it a mini market)
Room was not cleaned the TWO WEEKS WE WERE THERE.
Owners said they didn’t understand much English.
Blankets were full of bugs.
Reception was closed for hours at a time during the day.
Bar/restaurant was closed by 9pm some nights.
Public toilets were filthy.
No entertainment.
Nobody on site at night for any emergency.
Shower was tied up with a piece of wire
had to use a bowl of water to flush the loo
I have had many holidays in Crete, love the country and people, know this part of the Island well and knew the Virginia apartments were in a lonely spot but did not expect the place to be so unfriendly and no activities on site.

Not only was this the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in Greece but also the worst location. Situated on a very busy and noisy main road, the windows opened onto a balcony which although had a sea and mountain view, the noise of the lorries and vehicles roaring past drowned out any sound of the sea. The bedroom was small with a nursery sized wardrobe nothing else, no chest nothing just three hangers.
The bathroom as always in Greece, small with a shower curtain that was 6 inches too short. A pane of glass was missing out of the sliding window, so people walking past could see you in the bathroom.
We managed one night here as it was impossible to sleep, the traffic noise was unbearable, most being cement mixers and heavy lorries due to the building work going on in the area.
The location itself is out on a limb. Perched on the side of this long and winding main road, with no beaches just rock and a good miles walk from the nearest taverna - which was also set on this main road with two others. The seating was sea-side and the waiters would dodge the traffic with trays back and forth to bring orders it was ridiculous and dangerous.
We walked a path at the side of the road two miles one way and two the other to see if there was anything of interest or somewhere to swim. The rocks down to the sea were littered with rubbish in both directions and an underpass to cross the road was so low you couldn’t stand up straight and that too was littered with bottles, rubbish and a skeleton of a dog.
We were lucky enough to get moved but the people we met later who had to stay their time there were full of complaints, they went on many excursions just to get away from the hotel. The ones who had eaten there said the food was terrible and always luke warm or cold.
We think that this hotel is misrepresented and people wanting a traditional Greek holiday should give it a wide berth.

We have just returned from our second stay at these lovely apartments. This is a family run concern in a quiet location, car hire is really an advantage. The hotel pool is lovely and there are some great beaches nearby. The owners are lovely friendly people.
I would recommend these apartments for families with children and mature couple, perhaps not those seeking busy nightlife. lots of steps mean it’s not best suited to those with mobility issues.
A great place to relax and work on that tan.
