We travelled to Bruges via Eurostar, which we had no problems with. The coaches could do with modernising but the process was painless and the journey was comfortable enough.
We had to change at Brussels and get a connecting train to Bruges. This process was a little more complicated. Nowhere is Bruges mentioned on the departure board, luckily with the help of a security guard, the info desk and my guide book we found the right platform.
The Hotel itself was very nice had a rustic, old feel to it. It was what you'd expect from a 2 star. There was only 2 of us, we had booked a double room, but when we went up and opened the door we had a huge family room right in the loft with beams everywhere, and a lovely view of one of the church's towers. we were very pleasantly surprised.
The breakfast was limited and uninteresting, as were the staff, one girl there very nice but the guy at the bar in the evening was quite rude, but for a 2 star you cant complain.
Bruges was lovely the Christmas market and ice rice were very cute. it very easy to get around and everyone was generally quite friendly. A lovely little town.
Food and drink cost what you would expect from any European city but portions were fairly adequate.
We also went to the ice and snow sculpture festival which was fantastic.
