Just back from a long weekend at the golden cub cabanas and had a great time.
Rooms: Our room was lovely, we were staying all inclusive and did not expect a room with full kitchen and fridge which was fab.

Food good service and quality might have been a bit repetitive if staying for a week or two but good choice for a 3star.
Extras: entertainment, sun beds, boat service to the beach all good.
Poorer points: Hotel could look so much better if had a paint job and wine was very cheap and nasty.

We spend a beautiful time in Portugal. Resort is excellent, food gorgeous. One minus is dirty apartment, but apartment was really huge and balcony great with view on everything in resort and ocean. Near shops and small restaurants, quite cabana village and big beach. It was one of my the best vacation time. If You are looking for place where You can forget about work, problems, this is a place for You, very good for families. Thanks

We are a family of 5 and have been to Golden Clube now for a summer vacation for the last 4 years and this year also went for Christmas.
Even though we arrange our accomodation privately, we stay in a beautiful apartment which is newly built over the last few years. It was spotless, very spacious ( 2 bedrooms & additional sleeping area not encroaching on the living area at all ) 3 balcony's with the main one overlooking the sea. Kitchen was fully stocked with every utensil you could imagine down to pizza cutter, garlic crusher and icecream scoup.
The place itself is so fantastic for adults & children alike with Kids Club each day ( May - Sept) . The animation team also provide nightly entertainment for the children ie Children's Show's, Magic Show, etc. and later adult entertainment.
Other facilities in the resort include 2 outdoor pools and 1 indoor, Tennis Courts, Gym, Squash, Sauna, steam, etc..
There are 2 Bars in the complex indoor & outdoor along with a resturant and one more under construction. The staff are so helpfull with any request. Cabanas village is just 2 minutes away with loads of resturants and cafe's and bars plus a great supermarket which stocks everything. Tavira is 10mins away which is just a gem, you can't find a town with such history anywhere.
One point of note, if you are looking for a place with nightlife all night this is not the place for you. If you want to totally chill out and forget about Home & Work, Golden Clube Cabanas is the one...

Our apartment was a private one, but...

Our apartment was a private one, but it was very clean and large, only thing spoiling it was the building of new apartments right opposite our balcony. Though to be fair there was nobody working on it while we were there but it was unsightly, There was building work going on nearby.
We found everyone friendly, the food was cheap and gorgeous and we found many bars very cheap. We didn't actually use many facilities on the site only the pool once and it was very quiet as we went out of season.
We found it easy without a car, went on the bus to Tavira and the train to Faro, both very cheap and on time! The only thing that spoilt it for me was I was charged 7euros in the reception for a very quick phone call, lesson learned, use the phone box, 2euros gets a long call...

We stayed in one of the new apartments which are gorgeous - very clean, bright, spacious and with 2 balconies. The complex itself is great for families. My 9 year old daughter enjoyed the kids club and made great use of it. As far as I could tell, I was the only English person there (my husband is Portuguese); the other guests were German and Portuguese.
The pool guys had a tough job though as some people reserved sunbeds and sunshades very early in the morning and did not even use them until the afternoon, which did upset the Portuguese guests.
The Entertainment Club work extremely hard - looking after the children in the kids club, entertaining the adults with various sporting activities and then on some nights putting on a show. There was entertainment every night which was enjoyed by all.
I recommend hiring a car and travelling to Tavira, Villa Real and Monte Gordo as Cabanas is tiny but very friendly. The food in the hotel was lovely - just like my mother-in-laws cooking and there was plenty of it. Unfortunately on the terrace, it did get very busy as you have to queue and help yourself. However, it was quieter in the bigger air-conditioned restaurant - again self service.
My family definitely recommend the Golden Club - but do try and get the new apartments.

Exceeded our expectations totally. Very impressed.
Yes, it is basic - we were self catering and we had the usual fridge, kettle, cooker, sink etc and a studio apartment with balcony in the main complex. Towels were changed once but the maid would be more than happy to change sheets and towels more frequently I am sure if you feel you need it if you asked.
All the staff were friendly, the hotel was immaculately clean. The facilities could not be faulted, even if the evening entertainment by the German crew was 'interesting'.
The town was lovely, the seafood/fish the best I have ever eaten. All the locals were more than friendly and helpful. It was very cheap to eat out €5 bottle of very drinkable local wine etc. It was very laid back but had lots of things for the children to do.
I would not hesitate to recommend this resort.

The worst resort I have ever stayed...

The worst resort I have ever stayed at. The room was dirty at check in and two days the maid did not even clean the room. The sheets were not changed the week we were there. You have to hang your towel up and use it the whole week. They did change our towels once in the week.
They have no non smoking rooms and the lobby is filled with smoke even the employees are allowed to smoke in the lobby. If you are a non smoker like us you do not want to stay in this resort.
This resort is so bad even though we had paid for all inclusive we spent most of our time away doing day tours.
All inclusive is not the correct term there is a list you can order from even on the drinks.
Even though all inclusive I could not get a bottle of water from the bar or with meals. The food is not good and no variety we ate most of our meals away from the hotel.

Our week on holiday at the Golden Club ended up much better than we initially thought. The staff were friendly and helpful, the apartments were fairly basic but cleaned regularly and had air conditioning and balconies.
The food was lovely and there were lots of sports facilities (often too hot to play though). There was good, varied evening entertainment that got people mixing, regardless of nationality. Also there was a complementary regular boat crossing (every 5 mins) from the hotel across the lagoon to a beautiful sandy beach.
The local village of Cabanas is a five minute walk from the hotel, with a few bars (a bit limited but nice enough). Probably more going on in Tavira- a few minutes drive away, a sweet market town with nice shops, cafes and bars.
I recommend hiring a car, as we did, as it was nice to explore the surrounding towns, beaches and coves as opposed to staying in the hotel all the time.
Overall we had a great week, especially considering we do not usually go for package holidays, and made friends we are still in contact with. I fully recommend it.
