dirty place full of cocroaches
When we arrived we were really disgusted we had to go out and get some bleach and clean the kitchen floor, full of grease and grime and cocroaches. Towels were holey and curtains hanging of the track had to have them perminantly closed. Where offered other rooms but after looking at 5 or 6 we realised this was the norm!! How can they say its a 3*? Dont go there!
it was quiet
we arrived at 11.00pm to find ourselves locked out. We found someone to let us in, checked in then wanted a drink, but the bar closed at 11.00pm, so we went looking for a bar. Next day we spent by the pool, didn't have to get up early to get a sun lounger as there was only 2 people by the pool at 12.00pm. This was the normal all week, but we loved it, no dashing for sun beds, no queuing at bar( it was self service), no one splashing or diving into pool, it was like having our own private villa! The food wasn't great, but it was edible(hope you like potato wedges, they're on the menu everynight!).The rooms were basic but clean with everything you need in them. The staff were sparse but very friendly towards us. There is no entertainment whatsoever on a night time, but we met a few other couples and sat chatting with them. There's only a few tables inside, but only 3 outside with about 12 chairs,so it's a good job there wasn't many people there! It wasn't brilliant, but we got what we paid for.We did enjoy it and would go back, as we wanted a quiet holiday away from everything and this is what we got. If you want lively, noisy and lots to do with lots of entertainment then this is not the holiday for you.
Personal items stolen from room...hotel showed no interest
Reasonably good holiday and we liked our apartment. Didn’t eat in the hotel as heard bad reviews and after having a quick look on what was on offer, best move. The apartments include a kitchen so self catering is the best option. We would have enjoyed our stay if it wasn’t for stuff and cash being stolen out of our room. No signs of a break in so presumably someone with a key. Police couldn’t be bothered. Had to wait two days to report it (as they don't investigate anything on national holidays. Because crime doesn’t happen then apparently...) and when we did, they treated us like poop as we were clearly interrupting valuable naked ladies browsing time (caught a glimpse of the computer monitor...was rather...generic). Hotel offered no apology no showed no interest and the company we'd booked the hotel through (Media Travel) sent a lazy computer generated apology when we asked what was going on. Nothing happened despite numerous long expensive calls being made to Brazil on my partners phone before we had chance to cancel it...lots of Brazilians working in the area. Coincidence? Pretty gutted as I went there for my birthday and they took presents. We chatted to all the staff while most of the British guests treated them with distain as their English isn't very good (erm...we're in a Spanish speaking country. Why do the Brits always moan and assume everyone should speak English?) Silly me thought I'd insured personal items but insurance company said they wouldn’t give me a bean. So make sure you’re covered, you don’t know who’s got their beady eye on your sparkly stuff. Shame as we quite enjoyed staying there but the lack of interest from the hotel and negative memory means it gets a low rating. Another thing...we toured around the island and it is beautiful but when you eat in a restaurant, its interesting that your server will treat you with distain throughout but when it comes to bill time...the smiles comes out. Odd that eh?

M&S Stoke-on-Trent Having traveled abroad for well over 25 years, we have just had the worst ever. It states all inclusive, all right if you like eggs for breakfast every day.lunch bare minimum of two choices along with one cold veg and sometimes a little rice, evening meal no better, we saw soup once in eleven days (still wondering what it was). staff, catch one if you could. Pool cleaned everyday, pool area washed down once in eleven days, ever seen cats drink pool water?. When you make chip butties and banana butties, and guests send out for pizzas, clean your own dishes away and no in between snacks, this should tell you some thing. Never Again.
read this before you book
hope you do not make the same mistake as i did and book this hotel before reading reviews the food was cold and was horrible the day we arrived it had been raining .there were buckets on the tables people were eating off to catch the water which was leaking through the light fittings on the ceiling .The staff could not speak a word of english so complaining to them was not an option. The rooms were very basic and you had to pay to watch your tv
OK but wouldn't recommend this holiday
We booked a cheap holiday thinking we were getting a bargain but we got what we paid for - a cheap holiday. The apartments were clean enough but in need of refurbishment. We stayed on an all inclusive basis- the food was ok, would have been better if it was hot, there wasn't a lot of choice but there weren't many people staying there in the middle of December. Beer, soft drinks, tea and coffee were available on a serve yourself basis all day and jugs of wine were available during lunch and dinner and all evening, local spirits were also available but you had to find a member of staff to serve these, The staff were friendly and helpful but a bit thin on the ground. There was no entertainment offered the week we were there. Costa Calma is a fairly new resort which doesn't have a centre or a soul, everything is spread out and the place is largely uninteresting but the miles of beach are excellent. Despite all of this they can't take the sun away from you!
Great place
Hi we stayed at the althay for one week good food clean room very friendly staff i am going back next year AAAA
Quiet Place, but value for Money
I have just returned from a one week stay at the Althay, and although I had my reservations prior to going due to previous comments about cockroaches, I can say that I needn't have worried. My main aim for this holiday was to relax and unwind in some summer sun, and thats certainly what i did. The pool area and apatments were very quiet, which pretty much relected the resort in general. Although our room was looking a bit tired and in need of a refit, the only major complaint i had was the standard of food, and even though I went on an all inclusive basis I ate out 4/5 evenings. That said I didn't pay the earth for the holiday, and so was quite happy to spend a little extra on decent grub! The pool area was well maintained, and the staff (especially on the bar) were very friendly and helpful, not to mention generous with the size of drinks! The resort is very small, and isn't exactly directed at foreign holiday makers. If you are looking for entertainment/selection of bars on an evening than Jandia is the place to visit (4euros bus each way). All in all, I got exactly what I paid for and had a very nice week in the sun, I would certainly return to Fuertaventura however I would pick Jandia over Costa Calma in any future visit.
Good value apartments
We have just returned from 2 weeks in the Althay Apts and found them to be good value for money. We stayed room only and ate out every night. 4 meals in Costa Calma and 10 in Jandia. Hired a car from the airport for the 2 weeks and would suggest that the convenience is worth the extra cost. Althay was clean; staff were helpful; gardens were lovely; pool (which we did not use) looked very pleasant and was well looked after; shop off reception was well stocked. We read all the alarming comments about cockroaches and arrived dreading what we would find. Armed with insect repellant but did not have to use it. NO COCKROACHES!! Our room was on second floor which may have helped. Costa Calma is very quiet at night with only 6 restaurants that we could find. The drive to Jandia takes 12 mins where there are lots of nice restaurants. Beaches are amazing and the island has a lot to see if you are prepared to get out and drive. We will be going back.
Not that bad!!!
I stayed here with my partner for a well deserved break for a week. I'd read all the reviews and was dreading it. But it really wasn't that bad. The apartments were clean and didn't see one cockroach, the pool was cleaned everyday and we had the pool to ourselves all week! the only thing we were disappointed with was the lack of eating places so we had to get a bus to Jandia, but that was fine. To be honest it wasn't 5 star but they don't advertise that fact. So basically you get what you pay for at the end of the day. Just enjoy your holiday and don't let small things get you down.
