My wife and I stayed at this hotel for three nights. Everything it claims are pretty much true. The room was spotless. Staff are more than helpful. The choice of breakfast was more than adequate. We had an evening meal one night and it was totally superb as were the... more

A Comfortable Spot, about 15mins from the Mezquita
The Hotel Macia Alfaros is a very comfortable hotel, modern, airy, bright, with a sumptuous patio-fountain in Moorish style. It's a bit of a walk to the main historical center, where you can see the Mesquita, the city's star attraction. To be honest, the front desk staff seemed a bit aloof, but this is a fine hotel regardless.
Like a Holiday Inn in Spain
This hotel is NOT 4 star. Its like an old, very outdated Holiday Inn. Its walkable to the city center but not close. It wasn't particulary clean and the walls are very very thin (you know what I mean). Overall not awful - but I would only stay there again if could not get a room elsewhere.
A good choice !
We made a snap decision to stay in this hotel when we discovered that the Palacio de Viana does not open on summer afternoons. Parking in Cordoba is atrocious and we had decided on this hotel in which to park earlier in the day (day rate is 15 euros) We took a two room suite at c £200 which turned out cheaper than two standard rooms. It was luxurious and had a jacuzzi bath which pleased the children. The staff were very helpful and spoke good English particularly if one attempted our Spanish. We had a second breakfast in the cafeteria which was good value. The walk to the Mesquita, aided by the map given to us by the hotel, was c 15 minutes at a very slow stroll in the 40C heat. Nothing in central Cordoba is very far from anything else which you can see clearly on Google Earth. We decided to have room service in the evening which was swift, very good and very professionally served. A free bowl of fruit was provided as well. Breakfast was an extensive buffet monitored by attentive staff who ensured replenishment took place when required. The maitre d’ was welcoming and showed us to our table. The buffet is excellent value given how much you can have and the variety. This is a modern hotel which caters for the business market as well as tourists. When we were there were a lot of families and, in particular, a lot of Spanish which we took to be a good sign. We wanted to leave the car in the car park for a further few hours the following day so we could visit the Palacio and they waived the car parking fee which we thought was a nice touch. I would definitely go back
Not that good as we thought
After several visits in Andalusia we arrived in Macia Alfaros. The parking was perfect!! Only when you are on the 3th floor below you have to walk with your luggage. The elevator stops at the second floor. When we arrived, there were 4 receptionists behind the desk. 1 of them was working the others were pretending. We had to wait very long. Room was ok. Nothing special. Big, but dark bathroom. The breakfast was poor, and not as good as we thougth. First impression looked good, but when you are starting not that good.. And what we disliked were the gentleman asking for your roomnumber before a "Buenas Dias". or a Goodmorning. They were more interested in our roomnumber. First morning a lot of the food was not available, no coffee, no fruit, no meat etc, and it took a long time before, the "room-numberman" saw this and gave his orders to the rest of the staff. Also people in the hotel were not aible to speak good English. But that's a problem in the rest of Spain as well. One lady was polite, and spoke English, this lady was helping us with a map to find some places in the city. When we left we gave a question form with our opinions. They were surprised, and asked us what it was. We told them what it was and why we used it. Would we like to stay here again: No we don't think so.
Check the Bill
The Hotel is quite nice It's location is not too bad depending on what you would like to see.The breakfast was very good.Parking is 10 euros per day.The waiters were excellent, but one night after ordering two drinks, and paying for it I left the receipt on the bar,When I re-ordered another two drinks the bar maid tried to charge me for the first drinks. The cleaner of our room surpassed her duties by always tucking my wife's three little teddies into bed at night.Overall I would return to this hotel.
mediocre
There was nothing really wrong with this hotel. It was easy to locate and offered parking. However it lacked any character and was quite a walk from the interesting areas. Whilst we liked the idea of a pool, in reality the pool area was small and cramped (the photos are misleading) within a small courtyard. We arrived mid afternoon very hungry but could only get a very rushed and expensive lunch in a formal dining room. I was looking forward to a few cold beers relaxing by the pool but there were no refreshments served. Breakfast was good though. On the whole I think there are better deals and more atmospheric places to stay in Cordoba
Disappointing
Stayed here for a single night in Oct 2003 The hotel is adequate, but nothing special - our room was smallish and reeked of cigarette smoke. Breakfast was limited in choice and the quality wasn't that great. This is really a 3-star hotel with a pool. It's also that slightly bit too far out from the centre where the bulk of the sights, shops and restaurants are, and very far away from the train station, so location wasn't that great.
Too far from tourist area
The Hotel Macia Alfaros has the feel of a chain, not quaint, but servicable. It was too far to walk to tourist area near Mezquita, but did have a secure underground parking lot. The rooms were comfortable, w/ big bathroom, shower/tub & hairdryer. Breakfast buffet was excellent, with items for tourists from all counties. Front desk staff spoke Spanish & French but not much English. One deskclerk did direct us to a nearby courtyard Plaza Corredera w/ several good tapas bars (as a matter of fact, these were the best tapas we had in Spain). Swimming pool was cool and relaxing after hot, dusty days in town. I recommend staying closer to tourist sites like at hotels Mainmondes, Omeyas, or Boston.
Great location, stylish hotel
We stayed 1 night at Macia Alfaros Hotel in a superior double for 59 Euros, june 2003. The Alfaros has a modern eclectic but Moorish style and appears to cater to Spaniards with English spoken only at reception. We had a lovely room with huge terrace balcony and gorgeous views over Cordoba's rooftops with the minaret of the Mesquite towering above. Great location within a ten minute walk of the Mezquita and beautiful swimming pool. Although we'd highly recommend the hotel, we'd suggest you don't eat here. We got dinner from the restaurant delivered to our room. It was horrible, canned spaghetti and rubberized beef, our worst meal in Spain!
Comfortable Hotel in a convenient location
We stayed here for one night in May 2003. The Hotel is perfectly adequate, located in a convenient location about 10 minutes walk from the mosque. It has a small pleasant pool area and bedrooms are clean and comfortable. It is very handily sign-posted from the main roads if you are driving to Cordoba as its located in amongst a number of one way streets.
