just returned from the luis , what can i say , the apartments were clean but basic no toaster and had to pay for the aircon which i think terrible 10 euros a day. and when we go away on holiday we are out all day, and we found as we did not spend money at the luis on snacks etc he had no time for us. on the last day you have to be out at 12 , so asked where could we shower for the flight home he said at the pool , but found out there were hot showers down stairs. which were great, but remember your towels.

We have just come back from a really fantastic 3 week holiday and did not want to come home. The apartments are very well kept and Nikos and his family are truly fantastic and will do anything to make your stay the best. The resort is very quiet and the beach is clean and well looked after. We will be back in September 2009. CAN NOT WAIT

May 2008, Ms J P Watson

just had the worst 2 weeks ever. the resort is covered in fies and other biting insects. the 2 minute walk to the beach down a 'beautiful sandy lane' is no more than a dirt track through a farmers field. The beach is nice but that is the only good thing i have to say for the place, apart from our holiday rep who was fantastic (nothing to do with the resort) the streets are free from litter but look filthy, only some have sidewalks so watch out for buses and coaches.
the food is over priced for the area and compared to kardamena of terrible quality. (i suggest Andreas in kardamena) the price of drinks is in comparison with more or less everywhere else 3-4 euros per pint.
the 40 minute bus ride to kos town is more like an hour and you will never get a seat so your stood up the whole way. (ok if your in your twenties but if you are your probably going to be somewhere else) There is not a cash point or bank so these frequent 'cattle wagon' journeys are needed. also there is no pharmacy there which again is a little fustrating. i have been camping in a farmers field in the Peak District with better facilities than this street.
As for the apartments they are maintained to a cerain degree of cleanliess although i didnt receive a toilet roll for 4 days. i shouldnt have to ask !!! the room also had a faulty electric socket which would keep sparking if the fridge was knocked!! the staff did know, because the fridge was keeping the plug wedged in so this would not happen. eating in was not an option, there was a twin hob, but no grill.
the apartment floors were only mopped a couple of times while i was there, again unsatisfactory.
the pool area was quite nice. the bar snacks are ok but not served throughout the whole day, there is sometime in the afternoon when this service is not available.
people have given mastihari and the apartments rave reviews but i dd not find the attracion, i went for a quiet break but all i got was misery i am not trying to slate this place but i am used to better facilities in other destinations.
i will not be returning.

Had a fantastic holiday May 2007 staying at the Louis, staying again May 2008.
A faultless, well run place to stay!! Friendly staff, beautifull pool excellent food and very clean! Nothing is to much trouble, and Nikos the owner is something else. Looking forward to staying their again in 2008. We have been going to mastihari since 2001 why!
because its the perfect place for a relaxing holiday,no night clubs,no discos, but plenty of good food, friendly people and a excellent beach. The perfect place for young families and older people who like a slower pace!

Just got back from 2 weeks at Luis Apartments and have nothing but the highest praise for Nikos and family. They are the friendliest and most welcoming hosts you could ever wish for. They will do almost anything to ensure that your stay here is as pleasant as possible.
Nikos is a mine of information and tells you how it is with no frills attached.
He proved invaluable to us in our time of need and went out of his way to assist.
The apartments themselves are well looked after, basically furnished but comfortable enough. After all, the only time you are in there is to sleep!!
The pool is very clean and well maintained and there always seems to be a sun bed to lounge on.
Good choice of snacks and lovely cold beer which is a necessity after a day on the beach which is literally 2 minutes away.
5 minute walk into town(!) with a good selection of restaurants and bars which never seem to get too busy.
Never had a bad meal in the two weeks we were there and you must sample a cocktail from Costas in the Horizon bar.
Mastihari is perfect for a chilled out Greek break and the Luis apartments are the ideal base from which to enjoy the whole Kos experience.

The Luis Apartments are run by Nikos...

The Luis Apartments are run by Nikos and his family, who are very welcoming, friendly, and fun to be with. Nothing is too much trouble.
The pool and bar area are lovely, with a view over a corn field to the sea. We were lucky to meet up with a couple from New Zealand and some very friendly families from the UK who we joined for an Ouzo or two every evening in the Luis pool bar after a meal out in the village.
Nikos must have boundless energy, as he kept the bar open late for us every night and still managed to get up at 6.30 the following morning.
When you leave the apartments you can either take a rustic, pretty path to the beach (don't turn left if you're shy of encountering naked sun worshipers!) or the other way leads to a lovely seaside village.
There are numerous places to eat; we particularly enjoyed the Nostos Restaurant on the roundabout by the harbour. Unlike some resorts there is masses of choice, catering for all tastes, and all the food tasted home cooked and fresh. The sunsets are spectacular too.
We took a couple of boat trips to neighbouring islands, which couldn't have been simpler and more relaxing. All in all a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable holiday, certainly to be highly recommended and very much helped by the friendliness of the Nikos family.
Only minus was the My Travel coach turned up 20 mins earlier than quoted by the Rep to take us to the airport which meant a rather hastier departure than necessary and I left my shoes behind! If you are reading this Nikos, please throw them away.
I may well be back next year, but I don't think they're worth keeping till then!

My husband and I loved the Luis Apartments. They were charming, it was lovely and quiet and peaceful.
The apartment was large, TV, very clean. We had a kettle, shower curtain, hair drier, towels changed regular and the people were great.
One day we will go back we really enjoyed our stay.
The swimming pool was very clean, they have a small pool too, and there is a pool bar.
The sea 2 mins away, lovely beach.
At night go down the sea front and have dinner and see the sun set.
We went on the ferry to Kalymnos, then got the bus it was fantastic, really enjoyed our day out.

This was booked as allocation on...

Sep 2006, Miss Jess Clay

This was booked as allocation on arrival basis very last minute last year so I could tag along with my parents who had already booked their holiday sometime ago and were staying at the illios & irene apartments. (A very nice hotel indeed)
I had booked this holiday for my self and my young daughter and all I knew was I would be in Mastahari. On arrival to Mastahari I was told I would be staying in the Luis Apartments - which happened to be across the road from the hotel my parents were staying at. My room was in the main building itself and was a twin room with balcony. It was all extremely clean and well equipped.
The kitchen area had all you needed - kettle, cooker, table & chairs etc. The bathroom again clean and modern. There was plenty of storage space as well. The maids came in 3 times a week and left the place lovely and clean and changed the linen and towels.
The facilities at the hotel were again good, the main lobby area you had a bar/cafe which was open till early evening, their breakfasts and club sandwiches are a definite thumbs up. The pool area was always very clean and well maintained I noticed they cleaned down the patio area 2 or 3 times a day so it was always very nice.
The beach is about a two minute walk if that down a nice sandy path but beware to the left about 5 mins walk down there is a nudist beach, but the beech to front of the hotel and to the right are amazing, white sand and lovely warm clear sea. A little sea weedy at times for the first foot but then the waters are as clear as anything. You can also hire out peddle boats etc from a small hut located just to the right of the path down from the hotel.
The village is very picturesque every one is very friendly. Some lovely little bars that again are just lively enough in the evening to enjoy.
I could write things about Mastahari forever but there is little point you have to visit it your self to appreciate how tranquil and beautiful the place is. I would say Mastahari would suit most people of all ages as long as you are not after the full on night life. I myself am 25 and would recommend it to anyone wanting a nice relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle.
The only draw back on the hotel is that the bar closes early and you have to pay additionally for the air con which was six euros a night.
The nearby Illios and Irene Hotel however across the road to the right do an amazing BBQ on a Sunday night for ten euros - well worth a visit and the bar is open till 1/2 in the morning and you don’t have to be a guest to take advantage of their entertainment. Costsa and Angelo are one in a million.
Enjoy

The Luis apartments are built in two...
10 / 10
May 2005, Ms E A Jeffery

The Luis apartments are built in two blocks. The newer block contains 5 studios suitable for two people. This block is situated above the pool area, but the pool closes at six each night and it was never noisy. There is also a cafe beneath the rooms but again this is closed in the evening.
The rooms are well maintained and contain all the essentials e.g. kettle, two ring cooker, fridge and safety deposit box. They were cleaned and fresh towels supplied six days a week. The bedding was changed twice a week. The staff were warm and welcoming and incredibly helpful.
It was a five minute stroll to the lovely sandy beach through the fields, but be warned the beach to the south is a naturist area. It is a five minute walk along the road into Mastihari, a lovely littlie village of two main roads (although the bus conductor insists on calling it Mastihari Town). There are several Tavernas and a couple of bars. Nightlife revolves around sitting chatting to whoever else is in that nights taverna, over several drinks. Most of the tourists were English although a German tour operator uses a local hotel. It is a friendly village where everyone speaks to you in the street.
There are five buses a day into Kos Town (about 40 minutes and 2 euros). There are also 3 ferries a day over to Kalymnos from the small harbour. Most of the tourists seem to be over 40 looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.
If you want a lively holiday then Kardamena would probably be a better choice. The only thing I found lacking was a cash machine - the nearest are at the airport or in Kos Town, so it helps to take plenty of Euros with you.
An evening meal with drinks cost about 15 euros. In three visits to Mastihari I have never encountered any crime, and have always felt safe walking around on my own at night.
