Irene Apartments Reviews
" not impressed "
Submitted By: clare64
I had read all the reviews about this place and decided to take a chance. The rooms are ok but shower so small you cant turn around without knocking into the toilet. Arrived on Sunday and by Thursday still no maid visit, had to take own rubbish out, asked at reception and was told she would be in Friday which she was but still didnt change the sheets just made the bed. If you want a/c its 6 euros a day, saftey box 7 euros a week both which you would expect as standard for a hotel not extra. Although the owners are friendly enough their main concern was running the bar so if you want to sit at the bar every night then this is your place, the actual day to day running is not something that is an importance here. The entertainment was terrible, Greek Dancing night on Friday consisted of one man and a CD of Greek music getting you to dance to. Just down the road on the beach is the Alexandra beach hotel and apartments book there instead.

We stayed at the irene apts for the first time this year and would definatley return! The apartments are basis but very clean. We had a fantastic holiday here, we loved Kos and the apartments. The owner Elias and his sons Jack and Nick are very friendly and give the apartments are good atmosphere, nothing is to much trouble for them! You can hire air con for £25 for the week and the safety depsoit boxes are about 10 euros a week. The apartments are about a 25 minute walk in Kos town, but we hired quad bikes which cost us £80 for 5 days. You must eat at Spitaki, it is the best restaurant on the island and you can eat on the beach - its very romantic! Try old town Kos for bars and restaurants too.

these appts. are dingy and dank. the place was not cleaned regularly. we had to ask for clean towels and sheets, and as for the bins being emptied. forget it. arriving back 1 day we found the water had been turned off which was the last straw and we moved to another accomodation down on the beach. the manos rep was a complete waste of space also. DON`T STAY AT THE IRENE!!!!

Warning - Do not book this accommodation for more than 1-2 evenings! We were allocated room 9 which was tiny,( 11ft by 9ft) drab, dingy and dirty. There was no soap in the "shower room/toilet". No hot water in the mornings - only in the evenings.
No fan/ or offer of hiring /buying this facility which made sleeping an impossibility.
The balcony in room 9 was not big enough to sit out on and overlooked a messy back yard area and privacy was at a minimum as a caravan/ chalet was immediately outside the window and the family sat out until late chatting etc.
There was no reception and no info on the notice board. A book in reception gave general info on Greece and tour operators' trips, but no useful info on eg local bus / ferry times.
Linen was not changed regularly and the place is best described as "tired" and should not be on any decent tour company's books. The rep on the help line , Katherine was helpful , and we left the apartment after 3 nights and returned towards the end of our second week on the understanding that we would have room 2, which was still very small but was brighter and overlooked the beach so was airier
Pay a little more and go to the LUIS apartments up the road. These are spotless, well run and provide good facilities and service.

" I stayed at the Irene studios for two... "

I stayed at the Irene studios for two weeks in June 2007, and I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays I have ever had.
The studios are very clean and tidy. There is a good selection of cooking utensils. They are located in an excellent location overlooking the beach. The village centre is only a three or four minute walk away.
Mastihari is a traditional fishing village with a good selection of bars and tavernas - many family run, the staff look after you well and make sure you feel welcome. It’s no more expensive than other Greek resorts.
The beach is excellent and you can go for a long walk along the water’s edge.
There are no noisy disco bars and no larger louts. It’s a really trustworthy and friendly place. It’s the kind of place for a relaxing holiday with good food and a variety of bars you can sit in and watch the sun go down with your favourite drink.
I will certainly be returning in 2008.

I stayed at the Irene self catering studios in June 2007 and I can honestly say it was the best holiday I have ever had.
The studios are in an excellent location, overlooking the beach and sea. The centre of Mastihari is only a couple of minutes walk away, with an excellent choice of bars and tavernas.
The village itself has kept its traditional charm, it’s a very friendly place to go and relax.
There are no noisy disco bars or night clubs - no yobs or larger louts. The tavernas seem to be family run and the staff look after you very well.
There are nice traditional bars in the village and a super cocktail bar where you can sit back with your favourite cocktail and watch the sunset. There is no noisy traffic.
I found the Irene studios to be very clean and tidy - in fact I'm sure they have been redecorated for the start of the 2007 season, the self catering facilities were very good.
I had a good selection of cooking utensils for the few occasions I cooked a meal at the studio. The studios are in a quiet location which meant I was able to get a good night’s sleep.
I'd recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely be returning in 2008.

Selected Irene apartment on cost. Boy was I not disappointed.
Fairly basic apartment but fine for a family of 5. Superb location just off the beach and close to bars and restaurants.
Do not be put off by the comment in brochures that 5 person apartment is at the back. The apartment has 3 balconies, one of which is at the side looking out onto the beach, and nicely in the shade after a long hot day on the beach.
A good family choice of apartment and I will definately be going back to the Irene.
