These apartments are in an excellent location for the main part of Paphos, go to fat mama's for a great meal but it is expensive to eat out you need to watch but go to the supermarket - the moonlight restaurant across from the apartments looks like nothing but the food is excellent and zorro's pub is the cheapest in the place - great apartments and very clean plus cold pool. Do not drink or eat at the pool bar - very expensive and not clean. Take your own water to the pool.

I have just got back from a weeks stay at the Sofianna apartments in Paphos. The hotel overall was ok, it was clean and had everything you needed. The room was cleaned every other day and there was no noise. I didn't use the kitchen but it did have everything you would need and the frisge was a good size. The pool area was sufficient and had a kids pool.
Our air con broke twice and we were left overnight in July heat as they had no engineers in the evening. The second occasion was a lot quicker and it was fixed within an hour or so. The staff were mainly friendly but the hotel Manager could do with career change! The cost of food and drink on site was expensive really and if you have kids i could see it being costly. There is no beach near the hotel, only the harbour which is nice with the breeze but not suitable for swimming. You have to get a bus to Coral beach which is about 20 minutes away. Take food and drink with you as there is only one shop/kiosk and they charge silly amounts of money.
Paphos itself is a real tourist trap. Whilst i like to feel welcome and have food that caters for all, it was almost like staying in Leicester Square London. If you want to experience traditional food you need to hire a car or get on a bus away from the tourist area.
Drinking out was also expensive. A local beer was around 3 euros and imported was 4 euros. There is a bar street which has a small strip of bars all of which have PR girls trying to entice you in. Be prepared to pay 5 euros for a smirnoff ice and the same for an imported drink. You cn sometimes get two for price of one so that isn't too bad.
Overall it was a good holiday and i think my advice would be to get a half board deal or stay a little bit out of Kato Paphos so you can experience Cyrpus.

FANTASTIC HOLIDAY
10 / 10
Jun 2009, debrahardy

I have just returned from a stay at the Sofianna apartments. They are lovely and clean the pool area is large enough to accomodate everyone. I stayed at the apartments 10 years ago and they were just as good as what i remembered. They are ideally situated for all the bars and restaurants. The best place to eat is KALIMERA RESTAURANT opposite Othellos, we got a fantastic 3 course meal for just €8.99 with free glass of wine and beer is only €1.50 per pint. Romeo has just opened in May and is trying to establish his restaurant, it is the best meal i have ever had in cyprus and i have been 7 times. A great pub is Friends, George the owner is always welcoming and so are his staff. A poor meal is at the greek restaurant next to the robin hood pub, we paid €16 each are it was rank!!!!
I could live in Cyprus if i had €150,000 free to buy an apartment.
I defy anyone to go to paphos and not have a fantastic holiday.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE.

  • Advice: Fantastic place everyone is so friendly.

A super holiday. The apartments were exactly as described, couldn't be faulted. The cleaners worked constantly and the apartment was kept spotlessly clean with daily towel changes and bedding at least twice a week. All public areas were attractive and well cared for. Bar staff were friendly and came to know your order as soon as you sat down!
Reception staff were helpful when needed but we had very little call on their time. The pool area was delightful and the pool itself was a haven in the heat.
The promenade was five minutes away and during that time we passed numerous restaurants - too many to try when we were just there for a week. Our favourite was Rustic Kitchen just down the road. We could have eaten there every night and each had something different. Tea for Two was another we enjoyed but this had a more limited menu but still very enjoyable.
A trip on the bus to Coral Bay gave us an enjoyable day on a lovely sandy beach though the taverna there was rather limited. The Troodos tour up to the monastry was not to be missed but if you don't like heights don't sit by the window.
Good value for money and a fantastic place to stay. Have already recommended it and would go back there if we went to Paphos again

Sofianna and Paphos

Appartments ok, big enough for 2 adults 2 children, (10 and 12) Fully equipped kitchen, loads of 3 pin plug sockets, free tv and air con, bathroom could do with a thorough clean not just a quicky rub over also a bit shabby, very small balcony only room for 2 people at a time, carpet in lounge and bedroom was a bit grubby, no table in appt for us all to eat round together, good maid service to change towels practically every day, pool area was lovely the water spouts were fab for the children, plenty of sunbeds to go around, main areas of the appts were very clean but I thought the rooms were very tired, saying that I would reccommend them to anyone going to Paphos, young- right on bar street, older- surprisingly quiet for the location. PAPHOS. I would never, ever go back there again, the whole resort has been made to fleece money from the tourists, mega expensive for EVERYTHING, brits who have lived out there for 20-30 yrs were saying its the greedy cypriots who will kill the island not the recession..!! Glad we went self catering because we ate in more than we were expecting, we had more than enough spending money and brought most of it home because I refused to pay their stupidly high prices on principle. It is a shame that the tourists that are going once wont go back again because parts are lovely, Aphrodites Rock, the ruins of Kourion and the mosaics should be enjoyed more than once.

  • Advice: Take plenty of money and try not to be too dissappointed cos the weather makes a big difference,

Once is enough but still a good hotel

THE ROOMS - 8/10
The rooms were what you would expect, nothing special but just what you need. The maid service was good and they kept the room very clean. The view wasn't great as we didnt have a pool view and the view we had was of the gardens which doesn't sound bad but there was a tree blocking most of the view.
THE POOL - 9/10
The best part of the hotel was easily the pool. Its big enough to accomadate everyone that wanted to go in it and tehre is a section which is where the adults tended to go and just through a little bridge a section with water shoots and sprays where the children would be.
OTHER HOTEL ACTIVITIES - 6/10
Just next to the swimming pool was a couple of pool tables and table tennis tables which i would usually use but unfortunatly there were hoels in the table tennis tables and the pool tables were ripped. Behind the hotel was a newly refurbished park and a volley ball net which looked quite good but becuase of its location away from the pool it was never used but at least its there if you do want to use it.
LOCATION - 8/10
Your right next to the main street full of bars and restuerants but you dont hear anny noise when your at the hotel. A short walk form the harbour and a few ruins if that interests you.

After reading some of the feed back from other tourists I was looking forward to my stay at the Sofianna, but when we arrived the apartment was awful, it needed completely redecorating, the walls were chipped and dirty and the bathroom was mouldy, we had booked a pool view, but got a view of the road that had a scrap car parked right outside the window. I asked to have our apartment changed and to be fair they did this the next afternoon, we still did not get a pool view but anything was better than a scrap car. This new apartment was marginally better but still left alot to be desired and needed redecorating. The pool was lovely, but cold and you could not use the indoor pool, and the reception bar was hardly ever open. The maids came in every day and were very helpful and friendly. I'm afraid I would never go back and would not recommend the Sofianna to anyone else, I was very glad to be going home and would have left my holiday earlier if I could have got a flight out, this is the second time we have been to Paphos, we stayed at the Riu last time and loved it, hence the second visit to Paphos but sadly never again. I will be writing to Thomas Cook as they recommended these apartments after we gave them an idea of the standard that we were looking for and the rep was a waste of time, just couldnt be bothered.

Aug 2008, Mrs J Fairbairn

Just returned from a fortnight at sofianna. This was our first time in Cyprus and we would definitetly return to the sofianna. Location was great and although situated at the end of bar street you were never aware of the noise at night. Staff were very friendly, accomodation was very comfortable. Apartments were cleaned every day. Ideal with familys with teenagers or young children alike. Plenty of shade around the pool which was a god send given the extremely high temperatures this year. George and Dragon pub adjacent was family friendly and provided a family quiz once a week which was enjoyable. If any criticism it would be that maybe some entertainment could be laid on around the pool a couple of nights a week, which would encourage residents to mix more.Overall excellent holiday and accomodation. Would happily recommend !

Got back yesterday from a great (but hot 36++ ) 2 week family (2 Adults a 17 and 14 yr old) at the Sofianna. We stayed in room 311. I think that is Block 3, level 1 (1st floor) room 1. A 1 bed appartment, that looked just like the photos at http://www.sofianna.com/apartments.htm. We had pair of singles in the bedroom then a sofa bed and a Z bed style in the lounge. Sofa bed and Z bed were basic but adequate (hence 9/10 rating!)
Everything clean and tidy, with a maid cleaning around us most days as we prepared to go out and about! Pool excellent... it's big enough to do lengths! Parking for hire cars under hotel in shade. Air con in appartment worked well - didn't struggle in the July/Aug heat.
Recommended eating: Edelweiss, towards the end of bar street for real home cooking, run by father and son. Rock Taverna: Just walk down towards the seafront - you can't miss it. It's run by a guy with a South African accent whose lived in Cyprus long enough to know what is important.
We hired a rather grotty air/con Suzuki Alto from Chris's cars: 10 days for Euro 24/day - 2 drivers. It struggled but got us everywhere we wanted to go!
You must visit Adonis Baths. The road is interesting... take your time over the pot holes... go early and take your swimming costumes... a nice cool alternative in the July/Aug heat.
Hopeful this link will show the extent of the Sofiana's grounds, including the garden and play fields: http://tinyurl.com/5g3u4x and some other useful places we visited.
Get to know Andreas and others in reception... he can help you out and can book tickets at no extra cost.
Note: Some local attractions have free bus transfers.
Overall: totally recommended

2nd consequentive year to the Sofianna, brilliant value, ideal location right in the centre of Kato Paphos, 5 minutes to the Harbour. Studio apartment is better than 4 star bedrooms in hotels and bigger. There is breakfast available, wide choice at E6.50 £5.24
You can get much cheaper at the Rose Bar, but if you want to stay on site this is ideal. Apartments cater for all age groups, no problems with noise from Bar Street which is very close by. We frequented Zorros bar very friendly and reasonably priced. We ate in the Moonlight Tavern good home cooked food, Greek family run right opposite Sofianna, they will do whatever to please you. Just to meet Chris the front of house guy is worth a visit, unfortunately with the temperatures topping 40 we rather lost our appetites.
