i went to kavos last may with my girlfriend and stayed at this place. The place was great expecially the staff who were up for a laugh in the nights and billy the barman deserves a big mention. the food there was nice if you want some food before going out without walking down to the strip. the pool closes at 7pm with a fine if your found in there after this time which i didnt agree with. if you stay here most of the day then expect to spend some money on pool etc at 2 euros a go. the room was fine with a nice balcony to dry the towells out and get some breeze in. we rented a quad which i highley recomend to go out to beaches away from the strip because the 1 behind the strip is rubbish and dirty. we went a couple of miles out and stayed all day at lovely beaches also passing the awsome view and massive houses. Serious this place is a must go and i will be going to kavos again and stayin at the same appartment. hope you all have a good holiday

I stayed in the Olympion village last august with one of my friends. Being two girls and 18 at the time this hotel wasn't the best situated in the sense that it was a short walk from the strip up a very dark street, but it was only a 2min walk and if you are coming home at 7/8 am in the morning like we was its not too bad cos its getting light by then. But the plus of it being a street off of the strip and not actually on the strip like most other hotels are is that when you want to sleep you can very easily you cant hear any noise from the bars and clubs from the hotel. The hotel its self is basic but clean and welcoming. The staff were really nice too. Billy the barman at the hotel is amazing!!! cheap STRONG drinks and we even got some free shots/drinks after we got chatting to him. people seem to be moaning on here about paying for air con and a safe, why exactly im not sure, where ever you go your going to have to do this if you want them and i think they were worth getting. the food in the hotel is nice and isnt very expensive at all, 3 course meal for 8 euros bargain!! water was a bit pricey, but the shop which is right next door to the hotel does water a lot cheaper, but the hotel can get a bit funny about you bringing food and drink bought from else where back so just sneak it back. The nightlife in Kavos was brilliant, the atmosphere is buzzing! hot spots were definately Snobs, buzz bar and 42nd street! the clubs are brillaint too cos most back onto the beach. we went with 2twentys and definately would again, you can easily get roped into spending loads of money on pointless trips but the booze cruise is a MUST! most amazing day and well worth the money! do it and you will see why! had an amazing holiday untill the last day when me and my friend were mugged by boys on peds (there are loads of these about) we lost everything and found it difficult to fly home, so just a word of warning be careful of these because they are locals that do it frequently! other than this set back we loved every other minute of it. would reccomend it to anyone but wouldnt stay anywhere other than this hotel, it is by far the best! cleaninest and nicest looking complex, we saw many other meeting prople out there are some were very grim!

I have to say first of all that the hotel is very nice, clean spacious apartments but quite unsuitable for family self catering. As we were travelling as in a large group of 2 families we requested that the apartments be close together, so we were able to keep a close eye on all the children but on arrival we found out that our accomodation requests had not been e-mailed through to the hotel and as they were full we had to take what we had or move rooms a week into the holiday. So that was very disapointing and the rep took little interest. We had the reviews so we were prepered for the towel situation but not the air con was a con in itself set at 40 euros per room per week that would have set us back 160 euros along with a safety box we were loooking at nearly 200 euros before we even tucked into our first beer! For this lack of knowledge I hold the travel agancy responsible! We tried to hire a fan at only 15 euros per week but the management wou7ldn't have it on the premises......
No it is not a family resort so we had to be very aware of times that we were out and about but we did feel able to arrange out evenings without to much concern. What we weren't prepared for was the naked persons jumping into the pool at 9'O clock in the morning, quite a shock for us never mind the children?
As far a self catering in concerned, it is almost impossible, omly having two rings to cook on for a family but only a butter knife to chop vegetable or perhaps meat and fish if you find any to buy in the town? Which meant eating out alot more that we contemplated, not a problem for us adults but we had to watch out where we went and of course the time element with it being our family holiday!
All in all we had a good holiday but the adults in out party were very aware of time restrictions when out and about. We went on a top boat trip to the main land but we did organise it directly with the boat, which meant the baot wasn't over flowing, full of naked youths, and we saved about 100 euros!
The local people were fab, we had a great holiday but Kavos is not a family destination!

Great Hotel, Resort not for Families!!!

My rating of 8 is for the accomodation, not the holiday!
I agree with previous comments that it's a lovely complex, staff lovely and helpful.
thanks to previous reviews I was prepared for the ~Hidden~ costs! I cannot believe I was expected to pay for bath towels @ 5 Euros per week, per towel! I took my own and bought two towels in town for 5 Euros! The air-con at $45 per week,is a joke! as we had a 2 bed apartment, we had to pay for 2 units, When you remove the keys when you go out the power goes off, so you can't even leave the air con on while you are out.The Thomson site states there is an ironing board and iron in the rooms. Well there is an ironing board, but you have to hire the iron at a rate of 2 euros per hour!
We also booked the Aquapark with Thomson and I agree it's a rip off. If you book through the local tour organisers in Kavos or Thomson you get the same trip with the same people, same coach and driver.
This is a Twentys resort, great for groups of young adults, not so for families! There were several families staying here as well as groups of young men and women, We were lucky in that there were no trouble makers staying and they were all well mannered and respectful, until a few days before we left, when 4 morons turned up who seemed hell bent on spoiling the atmosphere around the complex for everyone else!
The reps are Twentys reps and although Twentys is part of Thompson, our rep was not interested in us as a family, We were a party of 11 ranging from 67 to 12 years old,the rep was only interested in the young men in our party, which was ironic really as they have partners and we had two single girls who he was not interested in at all. We were given a list of things we could not do! The pool is open from 9am to 7pm, if you are in the pool outside of these hours you will be fined 300 Euros, if you are noisy after 1am you will be fined 300 Euros (not a bad thing, keeps the drunks quiet!) We were advised to not go onto the main strip of the town after 9pm for our own safety!
The main strip of Kavos is like a war zone! The street is full of drunks, mostlty on activites orgsanised by your rep! during the day when the streets are deserted it smells of vomit and stale urine!
The rep did not want to sell us any Thompson activities, he is only interested in selling his Twentys drunken nights out! He offered no local knowledge and could not offer any advise on local bus routes, markets etc... The man is on a working holiday!
There are two nice resturants I would reccomend. The Golden Fleece, which is at the bottom of the hill and opposite Legends bar and The Olympia, turn right onto the strip and it is in a little side road on the right.
There is ten pin bowling, if you walk down the strip and turn left after MacDonalds.
A good activity is go-karting, if you enquire at the sweet shop at the botttom of the hill on the same side of the road but opposite the Golden Fleece they will arrrange transport for you there and back free of charge!
I would not recommend this resort for families, which is a shame as the hotel is lovely, after our evening meals we had to retreat back to the complex, thank God for Billy the barman!

Felt cheated by Thomson

As others have said lovely complex, staff lovely but felt very cheated on arrival. I was told I have to pay for bath towels !! $10 per week, pay for deposit box (which I expected)$15 and air-con at $45 per week, as we had a 2 bed apartment, we had to pay for 2 units !! I am happy to pay for small luxuries but nowhere on the Thomson site at the time of booking did it say that air con was extra. The details on the website says that these apartments have all mod cons like satalite televisions (which doesn't work) DVD player (which you have to pay extra for) air-conditioning (which you have to pay for at $45 per weeks, per unit)and balconies or patios. Oh it doesn't mentioned the bath towels !! The hotel advised me that the agreement is with Thomson in their terms with the Apartments.
We also booked the Aquapark with Thomson and feel I was ripped off again. If you book through the local tour organisers in Kavos or Thomson you get the same trip with the same people, same coach and driver but Thomson charge you more so when you are a family of 4 it works out at abou $35 more !!! I have used Thomson for years and I have to say I feel most let down by them. I lodged a complaint whilst there and was told that I would be contacted in the next 14 days but still haven't heard from them. I have tried to ring them and it just rings out and then cust you off after 8 minutes.

I have to start with how nice the hotel staff were, as they dont get the credit they deserve, they were all very welcoming and friendly!! The hotel itself is really nice and set back far enough away from the main strip in Kavos, but not too far to walk!! I booked this holiday through a travel agency and am highly disappointed, as i went in and asked for a family holiday and this is what was recommended, it is definitely not, we were kept awake most nights or disturbed during the night by young party goers coming back or going out into the town!! It is quite blatantly a wrapped up 18/30's hotel. We felt like we had 2 heads growing out of our bodies for actually having kids with us!!! The rep avoided us like the plague although he was very friendly when he did talk to us!! But he was interested in getting the party goers going and made me feel bad for complaining about the noise!! He said that well we are the only hotel in Kavos that doesnt play loud music until 5 in the morning!! Kavos itself isnt pretty but the locals are very welcoming, but again we felt like fish out of water because its quite obvioulsy isnt a family resort and should never have been sold to us as one!!!! I am in the process of putting in a written complaint to first choice!!!!

For any one who is going to Kavos in Corfu, the weather is amazing hot, very hot you will need to take very high sun factor cream and a lot of it cause it's very expensive to buy over there. The staff at our Olympion village resort were all lovely and very friendly. However what the shop where we booked our holiday, and the holiday information, failed to mention the huge price you had to pay for air con, 45euro's per room per wk, very expensive, we went self catering, 2 cooking rings which was bad as we couldn't cook anything. I would advise any one going to take you'r own towels, as you are charged 10 euro's for 4 per week. And i really wouldn't recommend going there if you have a family, small children find all the drunk people you have to walk through to get back to the village rather scary. We was woken every night at around 2am till around 5.30am with party goers, not my'n or my family's idea of a good holiday.

Our apartment was lovely, really spacious, cleaned every day except Sunday. Kitchen was quite basic, with a few utensils, hob and fridge, but we didnt actually use it (only used the fridge)as there was so many good places to eat. When you arrive, checking in is quite quick and the receptionist, Alex, takes you to your room. He even carried our cases bless him! There is a 42 euro charge for air con if you want it, which personally we needed as the rooms got stuffy, however it is quite pricy considering you've already paid enough for the holiday!
The pool area is clean, pool is a good size and didnt get too busy. Plenty of sunbeds. The restaurant had a really good selection of meals and snacks with friendly service. And they did an excellent fry-up!
Nice bar on the complex. The barman Billy really looks after you. Great cocktails and free shots. Our holiday wouldnt have been the same without him!
Kavos night life is excellent. We went late May-early June so it was still quite quiet but we had a blast. We were a party of 2 girls who weren't single. Most people in Kavos are after a good time ;) but we had a good time all the same. Only downfall is the amount of PR's who want you in their bars. It can get annoying after a while!
Overall our holiday was excellent. I would recommend this to younger people rather than families as it can get quite lively, and not good for sleepy babies!

Kavos out of season

I first came to Kavos in 1979, it was just a beach and a few tavernas, that has all changed!!
Wow, the resort was clean and all staff were helpful and friendly, from baggage help, reception staff, the restuarant, the shop, the pool, the room and veiws of the sea.
Kavos was empty with big beaches and very clean. Yes there was sea weed on beach but you are by the sea!! (I recall someone complaining of that- but these are public beaches!!) Sea was calm and interesting sea life.
During my week I saw people arriving to clean up the bars and prepare them for the onslaught of the party goers this month!!
Take a chance to spend time with the real locals, try their kind hospitally, many were there before the party people arrived and they are great people. Its not all about the booze but trying also their fantastic greek food. They as people are struggling with the high cost of the Euro and people preferring a burger and a beer, not their excellent food.
Pop into the Beach Taverna at far end on the beach. You see a lovely old Greek lady tending to the sun beds, preparing for each new user, She wears a white towel round her head, such a great character!! Plus eat in that Taverna "Likourgos", you wont regret it and if you have children, the owner may if he is not busy entertain them with cards & rope tricks!!
I found two lovely Greek resturants, one just before "Big Max" set back on main road, with big pine tree in the middle of its dining area, I wish I kept the name as I loved there food and the other well, I went their again on my last night, just try the MEZE plate. I did!! Called Olympia, opposite "Future", slightly down the side road!!
Now the Greek Night on Wednesday at the Complex was excellent!
Take a trip to Aquaworld, such great fun for all and those water shoots are so fast!!!!!
Take a walk to the hidden beach on the far side of Kavos, go to end turn right and you will end up with huge beach and little people on it!!
Take a trip to the villages above Kavos and apart from the far reaching views of Greece Mainland and Albania, try the local tavernas!! They struggle to make ends meet because they off the tourist route but the food, wow, I would go back !!!
My only hates was the winding roads from Kavos to Corfu town and coach drivers who insist driving with mobiles in one hand!!! They tell you wear seat beats!!!
Go on and book for May next year!!
And the weather was hot, hot, hot!!!!

  • Advice: Book it
  • Activities: Olympia and Likourgos

This resort was first class. The staff are all very friendly. The pool, restaurant and bar were all great and very reasonably priced. Kavos is not the prettiest of resorts but the resort was far enough away that it didnt bother us. Make sure you have mosquito repellant before you go!! + swat any of the little buggers you see in the room the first night!! I found the tours a bit of a rip off. Partic the corfu town and calypso boat trip. This is a waste of a day. The only one i would consider is the paxos antipaxos trip.
