3rd visit to The Lighthouse
from Sylla
September 7 Trip Adviser Member "Sylla" Rutland UK We are looking forward to our 3rd visit to the Lighthouse mid September. Our first visit was Sept 2006, second visit May 2007. It is nice to see some of you have discovered this well kept secret. It has improved a lot since our first visit, the theme nights are much better organised. The staff as always very helpful and polite. Hopefully we will be getting the same room, high up with a fantastic view. It is such a tranquil place to stay and yet if you dont want peace and calm, within 20 minutes you can be in the center of Bodrum with the bright lights. We happen to like "jimmy's" just along the walk way. He does work very hard to get you into his restaurant but he is not greedy, we paid £54 for 8 people including 4 bottles of wine, several bottles of water, starters, lovely fresh salads, and a main dish, he didnt charge for the sweets or the extra bread we asked for or my husbands brandy. He does a lovely king prawn dish. Most of the people staying in the Lighthouse in May were eating at Jimmy's. We just love Ortakent and the Lighthouse.

We were picked up by coach transfer and were the last drop off.. Our hotel was the best stop and was gratefull as some of the drop offs looked scary.. Arriving at the lighthose was a great feeling. This resort is quiet and relaxing, with an excellent spa facility, the rooms are of a good size, and are tastefully decorated with good air conditioning, it was cleaned every day and Ulga the cleaner made hearts and swans out of the towels and spread pretty petals and flowers over the bed. It was just the 2 of us.. I can understand for families with young children or older people may have found the lifts and 1 flight of stairs a bit of a drag but it was no problems for us and I suffer from back pain. The staff were really helpfull and always smiled and made you feel welcome. Darija, I called her D, is the hotel receptionist that works in the day.. People knew her as the blonde girl on reception that spoke excellent English.. She was very helpful.. Not sure what other poeple have been saying about not bringing food n drink in.. It seemed quite relaxed to us and noone said anything even though there was a sign in reception. Drink, cocktails etc were the same price as the outside bars and resturants.. Just that the cocktails were stronger in the hotel!! especially the bar man special.. Water pipe was also good fun. Pool could have been bigger but enogh space for the people that were in it.. Families with younger children used the lake and pool on the next floor as it has a water slide that came on twice a day and for longer than the sign said it would.. Oh yes.. had fun on the slide and that pool as well.. The pool was deeper there.. Hotel was on the beech with its own sun beds, decking area, bar etc.. Fresh towels always available at the pool and the beach. All good! Views were Divine from everywhere in the hotel.. Especillay the balcony.. had some fun on there late at night when there was noone around.. I hope!.. Hotel Manager, Ozgur Erol was a really nice guy and willing to help with anything.. We were sent a bottle of wine and a fruit basket from reception, which was a nice touch.. The hotel owner, his wife and family were there for a few days.. It was good to see him chilling in the pool bar and seeing his wife at breakfast, reciving the same treatment as the rest of the holiday makers. The food was great, had an egg chef that had something different to offer every morning. Half board was ok, but we only eat there 3 times as I like seafood and it was not on offer.. To upgrade to HB it only cost £5 each per night so it was worth it! There's plenty to do and loads of space in the lighthouse hotel.. The Gym and Sauna is free to use and I also noticed lots of things for kids to do.. The Turkish bath was Divine.. cost us £30 each after haggling for the full package which we had on the last day, it set us up perfect for the journey home. Tugretis market on a saturday is an experience - not for us, loads of copies if you are into that.. Bodrum was a dolmus ride away and found the silver to be very cheap there. Anyway, I can't think of a bad word to say about the hotel.. have stayed in Bodrum, turkey before and many other hotels, I would say that it is was excellent.. and I would definetly go there again.. Have reccomended to friends who are also visiting there soon.
Nice location

Lovely location and beutiful views, i was very surprised the hotel was nice and quiet even though we stayed in august, did not have to get up early and save your sun beds! Even though this hotel is rated a 4* its more 3-31/2*. We went BB, breakfast was very bland. Do not and i stress ‘DO NOT‘ go and eat at JIMMYS! Unless you want to get ill. Viras by far is the best of the bunch, worth every penny. Overall had a nice relaxing 1 week holiday with beautiful blue skies. Mrs Watkiss Hertfordshire

was a bit jubious bout this hotel at first as it was newly built and no reviews but it was fantastic. the watersports wasn't yet completed but that was oon the other side of the road and laws mean they can't work for so many months of the year cos of tourists so that was no bother at all. the rooms were emaculate and nicely decorated. fantastic sea view from every room. fantastic breakfasts. staff couldn't of been anymore helpful. was very quiet hotel which is what we were after. beach was very clean and the views were the best i've seen. hotel is very big and was increasing by at least double so really will be a 5* plus hotel if they keep up these standards. wouldn't say it was very suitable for kids but this may improve but that was one thing that made it great for me as it meant it was a more relaxing holiday.
fantastic holiday

return from Hotel Lighthoust on 24th July. Had afantastic holiday, everything was perfect. This is our 12th visit to Turkey, never stayed is same place twice, but Ortakent is a place we would return to. Everything about the hotel was spot on.The only blip was that the air conditioning unit failed. The hotel moved us straight away to an other room, all our luggage was moved by staff, we didnt touch a thing, even got a bottle of wine and a basket of fruit as compensation.Would recommend only going b an b, typical Turkish breakfast, but good variety.Hotel very clean, staff so friendly and helpfull. Beach bar manager Ferrol is ace. Eating out is good. Tried several restaurants. The best by far was Viva, run by the real JIMMY. I f you visit please say hello to him from Pete an Dianne Hope you have a good a holiday as we did.
Fantastic Time!!!

Returned back from this hotel just over a week ago. It was fantastic! If you are looking for a relaxing hotel, this is an ideal place to stay. The room was modern, spacious and cleaned daily (however the time of this did vary and sometimes was not cleaned until the afternoon). The staff at the hotel are very friendly and relaxed (there is no pressure to pay for things straight away if you are busy relaxing by the pool or on the beach). The food at the hotel is nice and there is a good selection, however, if you are looking for British cuisine this is not the hotel for you. Breakfast has a wide variety of cheese, hams, bread, cakes and eggs with the chef providing one freshly made choice a day (pancakes, omlettes etc.) Evening meals are buffet style with several turkish options whihc are delicious if you give them a go. However if i went again I would go BB and eat at the lovely local restaurants along the front in Ortakent (5 mins walk) you can typically get a two course meal and a drinkn for 25 lira each (£12). Do not go to the first restaurant Jimmys the food is very bland compared to others along the front. Overall a fantastic holiday and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.
lighthouse hotel

lighthouse hotel is a modern hotel built on a cliff face; all rooms have a fantastic sea view.our room was really comfortable and kept really clean by the maid.Access to the resort is either by a very steep road downhill or via 50 mts of beach onto an unmade road and then a very nice promenade into the resort centre and approx 10 mins to the first restaurants. the beach bar serves really good snacks/ the breakfast is a buffet of cereals /salad /fresh fruit/and an egg chef. The only problem is that there is only one way to get down to the various levels of the hotel and the beach and that is by 3 separate lifts. We went just as the season was opening and we were hassled for our custom at most of the restaurants. We found Jimmy's to be o'k if you like value for money and plenty of salad/chips; free tinned drinks and a limited menu. Our favourite restaurant was Viras which offered a really good menu which was a bit more expensive but worth every penny. The owners are very friendly as are all the staff and they will give you a lift back to your accomodation if you don't fancy the beach walk or the hill. The dolmus into Bodrum takes about 1/2 an hour from the centre of the resort and costs 125 lira. The best market is at Tiguerets on a saturday although you do have to change buses at the main road thro' Ortakent. We had a really good holiday but we would not wish to visit too often as it is a man made tourist resort.
not for solo travellers
from handsoloLiverpool
the food at this hotel was ok but their needed to be more choice especially for children, despite this the dining room was always full at both breakfast and evening meals, the policy of no food or drink being allowed in the rooms, might have to do with the fact that it was a lot more expensive to buy at the hotel compared to the restaurants and shops at yashi beach yet again i was lucky enough to be upgraded to the suite and had the useof a cd/dvd player and a bottle of wine and fruit in my room,oh and a robe and slippers. the room was really nice yet i too had a leaking bath. i found the reception staff to be really nice and accomadating and i was allowed to stay in my room until 12midnight even though i had only paid extra for 6pm late checkout the beach was nice but the only downside was the waiters were over attentive and i wouldn,t recommend that you go on your own. other than that for the price i paid the sea views were lovely and was worth the money
loved the view

WE returned from here on 30 Oct 06 and overall were very disappointed, this was definitely not 4 star. maybe 3 at a push. The room was reasonably clean except for a leak in the bathroom from both the bath and toilet, with water coming through the ceiling from the bathroom above, No attempt was made to fix this problem the whole week we were there, the staff were too busy clering out the rooms as it was the last week of the season to bother about the guests. There was no entertainment laid on, you had to search for the staff to turn on the water slide, when they did that it was the only time you saw any cleaning of the pool. Beach towels are provided but again you are looking for staff to ask for them at 9.30 as they were not out and this time got to 10.30 by the end of the week. The food was poor, very little choice and always luke warm no matter what time you went down for a meal, they were even topping up warm soup with fresh from the kitchen, and easy way to give the guests food poisoning! On the last 2 days of the holiday, they provided a set menu, soup, chicken and salad and cake, substuting meat balls on the second night. Not a choice for children so we were forced to eat out at Viros. At least there the food was well cooked and hot and the service was exceptional. Breakfast again at the lighthouse was set as standard Turksih on the last 2 days so nothing was provided for children. Only after complants were we provided with cereals for the children. If you want to stay here do not choose the half board option, it will be a waste of your money. The good things about the Lighthouse, the rooms were well furnished and the family room was very large, with air con and TV in with the price. The view was wonderful, you could watch the sun rise over the bay from the balcony and set at night. The only sound was the lapping of the waves on the shore. WE would not go here again as we found the service and food disgusting, whihc was such a shame as it could be a very good hotel given the wonderful views.
We went to this hotel after being booked in to a hotel in Bitez which awful to say the least,no water food was put on a tressel table, any way we comlained and got transfered to The Lighthouse Hotel. We were on honeymoon and this hotel just made it for us, we ate at Verras... more
