Honeymoon
10 / 10
Apr 2011, Val

We went to this hotel after being booked in to a hotel in Bitez which awful to say the least,no water food was put on a tressel table, any way we comlained and got transfered to The Lighthouse Hotel.
We were on honeymoon and this hotel just made it for us,
we ate at Verras bar on many occasion and also ay Jimmiy's bar this was very friendly we also went to The golden spoon who were very helpful they even had on of our wedding photo's framed for us which hangs in my hallway, they even picked us up from the hotel and brought us to restaurant free of charge.
Over all the combination of the hotel, restaurant and the turkish people it made our honeymoon,we even got in Andea Bochillie musicfrom Verras bar. Excellant.!!!!!!

we have just returned from from an all inclusuve week at the lighthouse hotel ortakent near bodrum. when we arrived in the early hours and taken up numerous flights of steps to our room we thought it was awful, especially when we seen our view was nothing except a white wall.we complained the next morning and given a lovely room close to a pool with a fabulous view. all staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the food was lovely. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lighthouse and would definately recommend it.

We booked this resort/hoilday wanting sun sea and a bit of piece and quiet which is exactly what we had here. I didnt realise how large the hotel actually was (built on the side of a mountain) as the pictures in the brochure simply can not reflect this. Myself and my partner expected 'basic' as we know lifestyle is different from the UK (thats why we travel!!)
We were very happy with the resort - our room had the best view ever - out to the ocean. The rooms are basic (bathroom could do with a refurb at some point) however, it was cleaned every day with clean towels daily.
There are alot of steps down to the restaurant/beach which is good for the exercise! There is a lift also. The food was varied with a good selection although the hot food I would say was tepid but edible. The soups were gorgeous.
We switched about from beach to pool and thoroughly relaxed which was the whole aim. Not really any entertainment as such however we were there in low season so didnt bother us.
Enjoyed a 2 hour spa treatment including Turkish bath with massage (in a hut overlooking the sea).
Only thing we were not informed of is that you have to pay £10 to enter the country per person so keep some cash handy!!
Few things could possibly up the anti of the resort but on the whole a great hoilday. Just remember Brits - you shouldnt expect English food/drinks/lifestyle - if you do - go to Blackpool!

terrible service

The location and infrastructure of hotel (buildings, equipment, pools) is very nice and comfortable but hotel service, apart from the reception, is terrible.
In restaurant there all time the flies were on the food - it was indicatd to restaurant chief and waiters but no reaction. The personel doesn't speak english. Tha bath equipment is very dirty. Room cleaning is very bad, irregular, sometimes the claiming in reception was required to change the towels, to get the toilet paper or to clean the room. The time and rules of service for sauna, turkish bath and beach towels change are not followed. There isn't any shower (apart from small for feet) between beach and hotel. The cleaning of pools is very poor. The pools equipment (sunbeds, mattresses) are damaged and dirty. The "a la carte restaurant" serves the same meals like main restaurant but without any choice and we waited long time to be served and the waiters were in shorts. We don't understand why in "all inclusive" system we should to buy the water to room in hotel market. We strongly don't recommend this hotel for persons who expect good service - in our opinion it could be one - two stars hotel, not four stars.

  • Advice: Omit this hotel if you expect good service.

When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly helpful staff and taken to our very nice CLEAN room with a fantastic view.
We have a 9year old son and as a family we prefer the beach which was quiet a few steps away but there was lifts to get you down to the beach as well but be careful as very rude people push there way to the front when your stood waiting this is the same when waiting in a que for food. The food is ok it is what it is we are in turkey not England if your fussy don’t go all inclusive cold sprouts on the salad bar did me lol as a family we was ok we all found something we liked desserts are to die for very nice.
Not much happening at nights very boring but we was knacked by 10.30 so it didn’t matter to us, a short walk to some lively food bars and shops and the bus ride to bodrum is a trip you will not forget.
Aqua Park is good for adults and children we enjoyed this day.
We had a good chilled out holiday and we are glad we went, we booked it 3weeks before and paid £950.00 for the 3 off us I would have been disappointed if we had paid full price I think our next holiday will be self-catering as you can pick what you want to eat and when.
FANTASTIC STAFF AND THEY WORK REALLY HARD TO PLEASE YOU.
AND THE ALL INCLUSIVE DRINKS ARE BEER (LAGER)LOCAL VODKA, GIN CHEAP COKE, LEMONADE, ORANGEADE AND WATER AND THAT IS IT

  • Advice: WE ENJOYED OUR HOLIDAY HERE BUT PREFER BITEZ
  • Activities: WE WENT TO VERAS RESTAURANT WHICH WAS NICE

We are a group of four females aged between 42 - 55 years old. This was the third time we had been to this hotel, first time 2006, it has gone downhill a bit. The food has become worse in quality but plenty of quantity and good choice of different courses. On our last evening the a man the bar staff told us was the owners son wanted to join us. We made it clear we were enjoying our own company but towards the end of the evening he joined us anyway. He was extremely arrogant and seemed to think he was irresistable as within 15 minutes of speaking to us he asked my friend to sleep with him. This offer obviously declined. The bar then shut and when it was clear we were returning to our rooms he asked my other friend if she would sleep with him!!! Unbelievable. Will be looking for a different destination for next years holiday.
The rest of the staff were sweet, rooms always clean, its a shame this spoilt our holiday and made us feel threatened and very uncomfortable.

Good Hotel, inedible food

If you like warmed up,repetative dinners, cold, watery soup, chipped dishes and fly covered food, I highly recommend the Lighthouse Hotel in Ortakent, Turkey. If you lso like being taken to thewrong hotel at 5.00am,and then, in response to your call, told by your Rep to make your own arrangements to reach the 4 star Marque ofExcellence rated building at a cost of £50.00 (later reimbursed), then the Lighthouse is a must for you.
When we eventually arrived, we found that there was no air-conditioning in the Dining area - hence the flies; the lift to the beach was inoperative for the whole 2 weeks of our holiday, and a further one was out of order for the last two days. The decking in the outside area was broken, and that, combined with the bad lighting, made a walk to the restaurants that we were forced to go to, hazardous. There were also no sun umbrellas by the pool area.
If you book on an "All Inclusive" basis, remember to take plenty of money for the many occasions that you are forced to eat out, rather than share cold, inedible food, with hundreds of flies.
ENJOY

If I were as wise as I am now I would never choose Light House hotel in Bodrum again!!! Do not trust pictures they show. Of course such a nice view exists but it is not available for everybody.
The hotel is located on the hill and there are actually two buildings - one located on the one side of the road with beautiful sea view and the other one - located on the other side of the road with view on the WALL.
One can imagine our panic when after seeing all this beautiful pictures we were guided to our room. Let me add that in order to get there we were led under the ground level. There were no regular door, you had to use balcony doors in order to leave or enter the room. In front of this balcony doors (which was also the only window available) there was ca. 5 m high dirty wall.
Do not believe also in all inclusive option. They claim to have two bars (lobby and beach). None of them is open longer than 11 p.m. and drinks they serve are horrible.
And some additional information for Poles - NEVER USE ITAKA!!! Their resident was not only completely useless in that situation but also rude.
Hope none of you ever be in similar situation.

Disgraceful Hotel

I have just returned home form a weeks all inclusive at the Light House hotel. All I can say is DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!! I got food poisining after only 48 hours and was sick for the rest of the weeks holiday. At least 20 others guests were also taken ill. The food was a total disgrace, nothing was refrigerated and any food left over was used for the next meals. Flys were crawling over the salads, cheese, cold meats and sauses and these were all left out for hours in the heat. The cooked food was only only kept lukewarm and one guest found a cigarette butt in the stew and all the management said was the he had put it there. It was so bad we ended up spending extra money eating out at some of the local resturants (which were very good). Rooms were basic, bathrooms need a lot of work and a good clean. The staff were friendly but just couldn't be bothered any more. The veiw from the hotel was fantastic and so was the weather. The only two good things about the Hotel.

I read most of the reviews before i went and was considering cancelling the holiday due to them being so bad.All that I can say to anyone who has booked to go or considering
going is to ignore the bad reviews as they present an incorrect representaion of the hotel. My family certainly will not put up with uncleanness nor bad service and they have their say however all of us agreed that the hotel was excellent. The Hotel Staff were friendly and the service was excellent at meal times and around the bar.In particular the 2 girls at the lobby bar bent over backwards to help people. The rooms were clean however you must tip straight away if you need sheets and the room to be of the standard of cleanliness you want. This is not uncommon the world over now.A tip at the start of your stay would ensure that you always get excellent and reliable service.
The food at the hotel is not good and this is the main problem however the eating area outside is 5 star and the view is very impressive. The Turkish Spa is very good and the different levels of the hotel make it interesting. The Beach bar is excellent and so are the views from the lobby bar.Take the trip to Ephesus if you go as this is one of the 7 wonders of the world and you wont be disappointed.

This hotel is in a beautiful location, the resort split in two by a road, rooms were large but the bathrooms alittle worse for wear looking, but clean. The maids spoke very minimal english and didn't understand when you asked for things, we had our towels changed everytime but our sheets weren't the week we were there, we ran out of toilet roll and had to "aquire" some from the pool toilets, which may I add smell due to wee bleach ball things they have in the sink! Plates and glasses with food stuff on them at the bottom of the stairs for 2 days was attracting some local wildlife attention, cats in the dining room appeared harmless.
Staff do speak some english, some better than others but they were never rude, we had a problem with our room door and then the safe but they sent someone to sort them both straight away. Please ask for rooms without an adjoining door, we had one and it was awful and may I add not locked securely just with a push thing on each door.
The food wasn't the best, it was luke warm repetative and evening meals were a remake of lunch, forget an english breaky boiled eggs, some cut up meats, salad, cereals, fruit consisted of melon, grapes (sometimes), plums (sometimes). No ice cream unless you buy it from market. Drinks....you have to pay for all cocktails anytime of day and all drinks after 12 midnight, no bottled water unless you buy it from the on site market, mini bar in room with price list not stocked and they didn't understand when we asked about it so gave up! You can get some drinks and one bar but not the other, I drink diet coke but couldn't get it at pool bar 'cos machine was broken had to go to beach bar.
The al a carte restaurant we didn't go to because it was beside pool which is ok but they laid out your salad and bread long before meal times and the flies were having a ball! The pool didn't have any showers so there was a constant film of suncream on it, the towel hut to collect your pool towels were two black bags on a lounger or you could go all way down to the beach hut.
In the many holidays i've been to I would say if you were expecting a deluxe resort and spa (4*) as advertised you'll be hugely disappointed. The spa and jacuzzi are free you pay for everything else, which is fair enough, some of the staff didn't speak good english but were friendly, and the diving school isn't on site, we are divers and were disappointed in the set up when we got there but it was cheap, fun and we got back in one piece.
I wouldn't go back to, or recommend this hotel, but would go back to Turkey.

On arrival the hotel staff didn't seem to take it seriously, however it was 2 AM. First of all they thought it would be bloody funny to throw the key from the top of the hotel to the bottom for us!. But as the holiday went on it got alot better and the animation staff were very helpful, the food was nice and all the staff were in the end, overall the holiday was great apart from the hickup at the start
