Coral Mist Hotel

As a regular traveler to Barbados we look for good basic accommodation in a good location. Coral Mist/Blue Orchids is both. The hotels are both fairly new (couple of years old) and very well maintained and clean. They are sister hotels, but run separately with their own receptions. They share facilities (such as pools and restaurant) and grounds though. Coral Mist has all beach front rooms, whereas Blue Orchids are built on a headland.
The location, right on the south coast road, makes them easily accessible with a bus stop right outside and route taxis running frequently along this road. The hotel is on a few minutes drive from St Lawrence Gap where there are plenty or bars and restaurants, but there are also quite a few within walking distance. The hotel has a small bar/restaurant on site and the food we had there was very good, but you would get a bit fed up with the menu if you ate there too often. The bar closes at 10pm, which for us was a shame, but we just went up to our room and had drinks on the balcony. All the rooms have excellent beach views and good sized balconies or patios.
You've got a couple of supermarkets within a 10 minute walk, Big B is the best, I think its probably the biggest on the island.
The staff at Coral Mist were fantastic, very helpful and always cheerful, especially the girls on reception, the bar staff and Reggie on activities.
The only downside to this hotel was its close proximity to the road and the road noise was an issue for the first couple of nights, but after that you don't notice it. I have heard that the hotel are adding sound proofing, but don't know whether this is true or not.
Overall, for the price, we considered Coral Mist to be a wonderful hotel and would definitely go back there.
