Best Family Vacation
from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from 9 days / 8 nights at the Comfort Suites. I just had submit a post to thank all those who have written before, and to let those of you reading now that what you are reading about these resorts is true and accurate. We had the best time, and thanks to the postings here and research I did ahead of time, we were very informed and prepared. We were 2 families traveling together -- 4 adults & 4 teenagers (2 boys / 2 girls - ages 14 to 16). We stayed in the East Wing at CS and took advantage of the complementary continental breakfast every morning (toast, bagels, muffins, Dunkin Donuts (really), cold cereal, and fruit) -- the coffee and juice were excellent much to our surpirse!! We found the set up inside the East Wing to be nicer than the outside set up by the pool. Our kids were able to come and go as they pleased without us worrying. They even enjoyed Club Rush 2 nights at the Atlantis and came back at 12:30 am (club is exclusive to teenagers from 8:30 to 12:30 Tues.-Sat at an additional cost of course). We spent the majority of our days over at the Atlantis, which is literally a walk across the street. Bring comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk a lot, because no matter where you stay (CS or Atlantis), you will walk -- you have no choice. The Atlantis property is huge and really spread out. Itis true what they say -- you are treated no differently as a guest of the CS than if you were registered at the Atlantis. When you enter the property, you obtain a wrist band for the day, which allows you to wander throughout the property. For food and drinks, you just show your CS card and sign -- it is that easy -- you don't need to carry any money -- most stands throughout the property won't accept cash. We went to the West Beach area the first day, but then frequented the Cove Beach area for the rest of our stay where is was less crowded and quieter. All of the beach vendors are on the West Beach area so if you don't want to be hassled by the vendors, head to the Cove Beach. However, that said, you should know that all of the motorized water sports are on the West Beach (at a cost of course). We had planned to go on the Banana Boats and para sail towards the end of the week, but our last few days were very windy and those activities were closed. My recommendation would be if you want to do these types of things, seize the moment; don't put it off as you may miss out, like we did if the weather changes. Be sure to pick up the Atlantis daily events sheet challed Fish & Chips. This lists times and activities for the goings on each day (i.e., free movies daily). We only ate one dinner at the Atlantis, which was the buffet at the Water's Edge. It was good, not great, and very expensive - $42 for adults plus 15% gratuity (child is 12 & under). A glass of wine at the Atlantis is $9.00. Anyone with kids knows what picky eaters they can be, so this is wasted on them, but we wanted the "experience" and "ambiance" as a special night. There are some good restaurants within walking distance -- we ate at Anthony's 2 times. Plenty of variety for all appetites and a more "reasonable" price range when comparing to the Atlantis offerings. My best bargin for dinner one night was at the News Cafe in the Hurricane Shopping Plaza (5 minute walk from CS) -- quiche and salad for $5.00! Food was good here -- nothing fancy. There is an Outback Restaurant across the bridge (15 minute walk), which offers the same menu as those in the US (just a little more expensive). We even ordered pizza 2 times -- both Dominos and Papa Johns deliver to the hotel. We found that just about anywhere you eat (or drink) will automatically add a 15% gratuity, so be sure to watch for this. As far as attire goes, for the most part you will be in your bathing suit and cover up all day. If you are not frequenting the "classy" pricey restaurants, casual attire is fine (shorts, tee shirts, etc.). I packed way too many "nice" clothes for the nights that never got worn. Don't bother with the Straw Market in Nassua -- there is one over near Hurricane Hole that has the same stuff and a much nicer atmosphere for shopping -- less hassle and haggling from the vendors! We did one excursion with Powerboat Adventures, which I highly recommend. This an all day trip and worth it for the experience and what they provide -- book ahead online and save 10%! Don't miss it! Comfort Suites is the way to go if you are going to visit Paradise Island! It is by far the best value for your dollar! And thanks to the postings here, we knew what to expect and had the best vacation ever!
So much to do so little time

First of all, thanks to all who provided reviews before us. We asked for (and got) the new wing and we found that the free breakfast selection is superior and just plain nicer down by the Pool. The employees were wonderful and some even helped us to save a few bucks on options. Comfort Suites is like a small town and you do meet lots of people . . an incredible # from our home State, New Hampshire, whereas Atlantis is more like Boston or NYC, nice but huge and impersonal. Dont try to walk down town like we did. . the bridges are a walker's delight, but the street traffic is scary and dangerous. Take the Ferry . . It's cheap ($6.00 Round trip) safe and a lot of fun.We did that, too. Make your classy restaurant reservations the day you arrive and Look for value when selecting restaurants . . .(avoid up-scale buffets). There are restaurants in the shopping center across the street that wont break your bank and your Credit Card is welcomed virtually everywhere. Oh, and there are clubs on the Island that will send a shuttle to transport you round trip to their restaurants. Travelers checks were a waste of time & money. We loved our stay at the Comfort Suites and all of the people that we met. . .we just didnt have the time to do everything we wanted to do . . .And did we mention that Liz and I are in our mid sixties?
Great Vacation

We stayed at the comfort suites and had a very positive experience. First time we were in the Bahamas and stayed at the Comfort Suites cheaper than Atlantis but had full access to all of Atlantis. The room we stayed in was clean and spacious and overlooked the pool area. They serve a continental breakfast every morning included in the price of the room and it includes bagels, muffins, rolls, fruit, toast coffee and orange juice. Restaurant prices in the Bahamas are very expensive so be prepared. The continental breakfast was great and saved us money on eating out. We had a fun vacation and Atlantis was awesome. I would highly recommend staying at the comfort Suites. We would definately go back!
Comfort Suites was Great!

My husband and I stayed at Comfort Suites 2/2-2/9 (low 80's) -We stayed in the older section of the hotel -it was clean and comfortable- our view from the room was the Atlantis and the marina-not a parking lot like the rooms in the newer section had- so there are pros and cons to each section- We thought the continental breakfast was a great way to start the day (included in your room price) & the pool and bar were really nice and the bartenders extremely friendly . Our walk across the street to Atlantis was so close -not a problem at all and once you got your wrist band for the day(at pool hut)you can use all the facilities like any guest at the Atlantis(for 1/2 the price!)-The aquariums are unbelievable! No crowds at all at the Beach or pools. Ate at Anthony's(twice!),Atlas Bar(well priced and good food), Marketplace(higher priced buffet, but good and great variety), also the Sheraton has a couple good places.Free Movie's at Atlantis were a bonus! We would definately stay at Comfort Suites again -can't wait to go back again next year.
Nice place to experience the Atlantis.

My husband and I just spent 5 nights at the Comfort Suites and really enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were adequate and clean. It is very close to the Atlantis and you do have access to all its amenities at a good cost savings compared to actually staying at the Atlantis. Some tips: Ask to stay in the newer part of the hotel. It is nicer and yes, there is some weird vinager-type odor in the older part. However, it didn 't bother me since I was not staying in that part. The pool bar at the Comfort Suites is excellent. The bar tenders are way more personable than at the Atlantis and the drinks are much cheaper and better. One of the bar tenders, Crystal, really made our stay excellent.Contrary to other reviews I found no roaches (yes I really looked) and I found the free breakfast a good deal. I had fruit and english muffins and cream cheese every day. Good enough for me. There are plenty of reasonable places to eat on the beach and the island.
perfect alternative to the Atlantis resort
from A TripAdvisor Member
If you're looking for a somewhat inexpensive place to stay on Paradise Island and enjoy the beauty of the Atlantis Resort...this is the place. No thrills but adequate for us. There were 5 of us in 2 rooms and we stayed in the East Wing...as suggested by previous reviews. The room was very nice, clean however not a great view. But hey, who's in their room long enough to enjoy the view. We were up and outta there and withing 5 mins we were hanging at the Atlantis. Plan on spending lots of money for food. We found a great place down near the bridge call the Green Parrot. It was awesome and faily inexpensive compared to anything else. We ate there a couple of nights. I also recommend the Booze Cruise, we had a riot and it picks you up the the Holiday Inn, just down the street. Very convenient. Hope this helps you out.
Xmas at a great family spot

First: THE STAFF, was friendly, excellent, service oriented and the housekeeping ladies were wonderful. Second: THE ROOM: was average size to a bit larger than average with two twin beds and a pull out sofa couch. Generally clean with ample towels, and a few stains on the bedspread. We had 4 in the room with reasonable space for all. Beds were comfortable. Ceiling fan is included with A/C. Bathroom is adequate with a small makeup/sink area out side the main bath area. Third: LOCATION, About a 5 min walk from the Atlantis property, which you have full access to. But you are 15 mins from the main beaches and water slide areas of Atlantis. (Which is a hugh complex in and of itself) Be prepared to walk a bit. Fourth: CONTINENTAL BRKFST, Cereals, bagels, donuts, toast, watermellon, coffee and OJ. Nutin fancy, but fancy cost you $10-15 a head in Nassua. We saved $40 a day eating here in the AM. Conclusion: We would definately go back here again, but we would want to stay in the new wing of the buliding, where we were this time. The cost as compared to Atlantis (where we stayed two years ago) is about half. You can spend that money on scuba diving, parasailing, ski doos and food. Well, maybe not the food. Nobody goed to the Bahamas for the food.
Roaches!
from A TripAdvisor Member
STAY AWAY! The room looked cozy and clean BUT after staying in the room for less then 5 minutes we noticed a roach in one of the dresser draws, we tried to dismiss it as a carribean insect until we went to bed that night. There was a roach in the bed! We immediately went to the front desk and at 1 AM had to have our room switched temporarily until they could permanently find another room for us. So that night we slept in a different room and the next morning headed out for an an all day excursion to Exuma Island (which was great!). We came back and were given another room. We walked into the room which stunk of insect spray and saw 5!!! more roaches, 2 dead! It was absolutely disgusting. We met with the manager of the hotel, got our money back and stayed at the Sheraton for the rest of the week. Clean room, great breakfast and plus we kept our passes to the Atlantis! Spend the extra money and stay at the Atlantis or the Sheraton, it is definitely worth it!
Comfort Suites - A "suite" deal!
from eugenius20
Our family returned yesterday from a 5 day trip to Paradise Island. We stayed at CS mainly because of the reviews I read from other people on this site (I even contacted some of them via e-mail) and because of the unlimited access to the Atlantis amenities. And am I glad we stayed there! Yes, in the Bahamas they get you for everything, but if you stay in CS at AAA rate of $126 ("no view" rate), hotel tax is $15.12 per day, gratuity tax is $4/person/day, and energy surcharge is $3.50/person/day, it can be under $160/night for 2 adults and 2 kids (kids are free) -- not bad. And you get a fair sized room (junior suite), with fridge and safe ($2/day). Believe me, stay in the cheapest room you can get because you're going to have a view no matter what. In fact, our view wasn't bad, facing north towards Atlantis and Sheraton. Make sure you get a room in the East wing (renovated). For us, it was a hike to Atlantis going thru the lobbies thru the west wing), but who cares. It's an extra 2 or 3 minutes walk inside and when on vacation, time is not a concern. Our room was very, very clean and everything worked great. I almost considered moving to the West wing to be closer to Atlantis but then when I saw how dumpy some of the rooms looked (near the pool area) I decided against it. The breakfast was good, though the first day I noticed some moldy bagels. But that was very helpful in keeping our food budget down. Also, we had a late flight yesterday and spent most of the day at Atlantis. They say to do extended stay costs $39.20 to 2 pm, and $79 to 6 pm. We were told $39.20 thru 5 pm so we did that. But because it was slow, they didn't even charge us for the extended stay when we checked out! Otherwise, they have a luggage room and you can use their hospitality rooms to shower for free if you wanted to. In fact, it was so slow, we were the only ones on our entire floor of the East wing. With 2 young kids, having Atlantis access without paying Atlantis hotel prices was important. We basically spent all of our time there. It would have been nice to do some other excursions, but for us, Atlantis was sufficient (the Dig, underwater tunnel aquarium, slides at Mayan temple, tons of pools, lazy river, beach). Also, this was slow time of year so it was relatively quiet there. Thus, I would not recommend going there between 12/25 (Junkanoo) and end of May, if you want to avoid big crowds. The weather cooperated our entire stay -- high 70s to mid 80s, a little breezy at times, and sun everyday - but still good swimming weather. The beach areas were great, if you go, the Cove on the west side is more secluded and good for snorkeling as you don't get the huge waves like in the Cabbage Beach area.I need to qualify that I am writing from perspective of a parent. If you are single or an empty nester or don't care about Atlantis, then this may not apply to you.Good Paradise Island restaurants on the cheap end: Atlas (at Atlantis), Anthony's, Zio Gigi, and the Bar and Grille at Sheraton. Overall, we ate good, played good, and slept good. Our experience was really great the staff at CS was pleasant.

My family stayed at the Comfort Suites from November 23-28, 2003. I just wanted to confirm other positive comments that have been made about the property. We enjoyed our stay very much. The week prior I stayed at the LeMeridien, Chicago for business travel and no it was not as nice. Of course we did not expect it to be! So, my advice if you decide to stay there is to have your expectations in check. Our room was basic, although clean. The maid service was just fine. The breakfast was simple - rolls, muffins, cereal, but just fine for breakfast. It also saved us at least $40 per morning for a family of four. It is a very short walk (less than five minutes) across the street to the Coral Towers. We were never in our room. We usually left for breakfast around 9:00 and did not return until after 5:00, and then only long enough to shower and go back out. If anyone has questions, I would be happy to try and answer them. Just as an FYI, our dinners averaged around $100 for a family of four (off premise from Atlantis). Although, yes, this is very expensive we knew this going in and planned for it. Atlantis was truly a site to see!

This is the second time I have been to the Bahamas and on both occasions have stayed at the Comfort Suites. The hotel is fantastic. The rooms are big with 2 kings sized beds pushed together. The rooms also consist of a large bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities, hair... more
