Hotel is Yucky but had fun anyway
from A TripAdvisor Member
After researching beaches and hotels in the Bahamas, I chose Cable Beach. Most people said that Cable Beach is one of the nicest beaches in Nassau. I chose the Wyndham Nassau Resort because it boasted ameneties galore and the pictures looked nice - it is also beachfront which was very important. Atlantis in Paradise Island was another option although their prices were a bit expensive. We arrived at the hotel and had no problems checking in. We went in June 02 and because it was their down season, they upgraded our room to an oceanview for free. The staff seemed courteous and friendly. I looked up in the lobby and noticed that the building had a very 80ish style. The hotel is very large but it is outdated. We stayed in the Casino tower. The casino is nice and even the elevator is nice however, when we went up the our floor and the elevator doors opened, it was like we were in a completely different hotel. It was YUCKY. Our room was yucky - old, dark, and smelled funny. One night, we had this big flying roach fly through the slide door and onto our pillow. We screamed and ran out of the room. Three hours later, a staff member went up to our room and found that roach chillin on our pillow. The beach was not all that - there were too many natives disrupting the peace with loud jetskiis and there was even trash floating on the beach. We went next door to the Nassau Beach hotel where the beach is much larger, cleaner, and private. There are locals that try to rip you off - do not buy from them. You can go to the straw market and get stuff for 1/3 the price. Other than the locals, the beach was farmost the BEST part of our vacation. We spent at least 8 hours on the beach per day. We brought our own snorkeling gear and that was the wisest thing we could have done. We snorkeled right on the beach and saw beautiful fish and small baracuda. We went on the Booze and Cruise as well which is a old boat that serves unlimited Bahama Mamas and takes you to a remote island and snorkeling sighing except for the candy bars they sell on the boat. But other than that, it was a very nice part of our trip. The snorkeling was amazing - the crew threw rice in the water and instantly attracted fish of all kind. Again, it was amazing. We spent a day at Atlantis. When I called Atlantis, they said that we would have to purchase a visitor's pass however we just went there and walked freely around the resort. It is so beautiful. They have a glass tube waterslide in a shark tank. One restaurant has an entire wall that is one side of a massive fish tank. The resort is definitely worth every penny spent there. I strongly suggest that you save up and go there.Back at the Crystal Palace, parasailing, banana boat, and jetskiis are readily available. Ofcourse, you can talk the prices down. The food was yucky at the hotel. We ended up eating at Sbarros everyday. It is conveniently located right outside of the hotel. There's also a KFC down the street. I didn't get sick. As a matter of fact, I didn't even doodoo once during my trip. Maybe it was a psychological thing because as soon as I got to the airport, I had to go. Even though the hotel was yucky, I had a blast and would definitely go back to the Bahamas but not at the Marriott. I would go to Atlantis.
Very rundown, try another place

We were very dissappointed. We were told, when we made our reservations through Wyndham, that a multi-million dollar update/renovation had taken place. This property is old, tired and worn out. The restaurants seemed to be open on a limited basis, the lobby lounge was closed, Phil's Deli was dirty, the seafood restaurant buffet was ordinary and expensive. The beach and pool area were also lacking. Most of the lounge chairs were faded and broken, the trash containers were old, rusty, dirty and moldy. The restrooms out of order. I found the staff to be less than interested in being helpful. They did the absolute minimum. The hotel has glass walls, railings, windows, atriums..glass and brass everywhere which appears to not have been cleaned and polished in many, many months. We stayed in F Tower overlooking the lagoon area where plywood had washed up and remained there nearly our entire stay (5 nights). It was overall not a nice property at all. Try another resort.
Try another island!

Just returned last night from the Wyndham - Nassau. The room and view were lovely. The casino is empty most of the time. I found the food lousy and very pricey. Shopkeepers were not too helpful, usually on the phone gabbing and laughing. This is my third trip to the Bahamas, and most likely, my last. Phone cards from the states do not work in the Bahamas, you must buy phone cards there. Spring breakers are all over the place. The Bahamians do not cater to tourists, but seem to be annoyed by their presence. While at the Wyndham, STAY AWAY FROM ROYAL HOLIDAY desk - they are trying to sell timeshares, etc. They are so pushy and rude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DON'T STAY HERE

We stayed at the Wyndham Nassau Resort April 10-14, 2003. The hotel is a bit run down. The ceilings are in need of some serious repair. Cables and wires are hanging off the building outside at various places. There were electrical cables that were exposed laying on the ground connected to junction boxes that were exposed and which I consider very dangerous. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. One lamp in our room had no bulb in it and no place to plug it up. We stayed in the F-tower and our room faced the pool area, which played loud banging music from 9 am till 6 pm. The staff came and cleaned the room each day, but came very late in the evening, around 6 pm. The food at the hotel is very expensive. The Seaside Buffet, which we dined at on Saturday night, was $33.00 per person and not much better than K&W Cafeteria back home. The Casino is ok. The staff was very friendly and nice. The refrig in the hotel room is a stocked one, and if you do not get the staff to fill it up and inventory the refrig when you arrive, they will charge you for whatever is gone from the refrig when you check out, so beware! The hotel put a $400 hold on my credit card, for no apparent reason, and it took days to have it taken off when I got back to the states. Also, friends of ours that went with us, had a $400 hold put on thier DEBIT card, which prevented them from getting cash from the ATM! Don't use a DEBIT card here! Also, the locals will hound you to death with all kinds of promotions and vacation club deals which will drive you crazy. We did find a "City Market" about a mile down the road from the hotel, which we bought broceries and personal items we needed. Would I go back to the Bahamas?, only if it were for free.
Better than expected

We just returned from a long weekend at the Crystal Palace. Having read the reviews, we booked with some trepidation. The hotel was well maintained, the service friendly and accomodating (we had a late return flight and were given an 8 pm checkout at no cost), the food average (and expensive), the room large and clean (although a little tired), the room view spectacular - all in all it was above average! Considering the rate we got - $95/night - we were thrilled! Perhaps many of your reviewers are expecting Four Seasons' accomodations at Holiday Inn prices. We would highly reccomend the Crystal Palace for those looking for good value for their travel dollars. We will definitely be returning!
Spend More $$$ And Stay At The Atlantis
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just came back from a 4 night vacation in the Bahamas. After extensive research, we've decided to stay at the Wyndham Marriot Crystal Palace. The hotel is nothing special and needs a renovation badly. This is by no means a 5* hotel. It's more like a Holiday Inn style hotel. The bathrooms are terrible and very small, the carpeting can use a good cleaner, and the pool side should be destroyed and built all over. If you want to have a great vacation and stay in the most gorgeous hotel in the Carribean, spend a little more $$$ and stay at the Atlantis. The Atlantis is top of the line and absolutely a breathtaking resort! Have fun!
The best on Cable Beach!
from foodie-linda
If you're looking for 10-star, don't-spare-the-expense, nothing-but-Beluga, lodging.... pay for the Atlantis on Paradise Island. But for the beston lovely Cable Beach... The Crystal Palace fits the bill! My husband & I spent our honeymoon there 7 years ago, and have been back about 6 times since. We love taking shopping trips downtown, boat rides to Cabbage Beach, and the Crystal Palace is comfortable enough, clean enough, and most every room has a breath-taking view of the gorgeous ocean! The casino is not up to "Las Vegas" standards... but sufficient for a little night-time wagering. And they have the only Sports Book in Nassau. Most of the staff is friendly, and drinks on the casino floor are not hard to find... (just remember to tip). We're going again this March...and cannot wait to leave this "Siberia"!LLC
needs a renovation badly
from CocoCleveland_OH
We stayed a week at the resort in Nov. '02 and found it somewhat disappointing. Although it boasts a lot of amenities, not all are available. For example some of the restaurants were closed, others were seriously overpriced. The whole place needs a facelift badly. We requested a refrigerator and were 5th on the waiting list. Five days later we had dropped to 7th and nobody could explain why. We had major problems at checkout with the room rates and an explanation of the taxes and fees. We called half a dozen times after our stay to get things straightened out, got a different person every time and nobody knew how to resolve the matter. They'd promise to talk to their supervisor and call back but never did. The lodging experience could have been a lot better overall. If we go back to the Bahamas, we would choose the Hilton or the Atlantis.
Not a bad place but whereever you go Don't Eat Raw Conch
from A TripAdvisor Member
Well it was a trip from h*** but this hotel had little to do with that! Spent 6 nights in Nov, 2002 First off, the room seemed fine, clean, perfectly acceptable. The halls and lobbys could use a bit of a spruce up but nothing to complain about. Decent rate of $129 / night, room was that of a mid tier here in the States. The casino is small but nice, perhaps a bit frindlier than Atlantic City. Didn't venture to try the hotel retaurants, for reasons I'll get to shortly. There is a nice restaurant at the radisson next door that looks like a little bungalo that was very nice. Room service was tasty, but they really have a hard time getting an order correct it seems. The chicken rib combo was well worth the price given other options. There is also the local Sbarro's pizza only 50 ft out the lobby where the prices weren't too much more than the states. Johnny Canoes is another 100 ft down the road and a bit heavy for me but worth going at least once. Now for the warning. AGAIN DON'T EAT THE CONCH ... at least not Conch Salad which is raw conch in a lemon juice dressing with onions and tomatoes ( reminded me of ceviche ). Apparently there was an outbreak of some type after large rains. Be careful what you eat at the fish fry, even at the permanent shops there. Thats where I got it along with 2 others in our party. It will ruin your trip, as it did mine. I existed mainly on 32oz sprites from sbarros for 4 days till we left and couldn't stray far from a bathroom. Here was my biggest complaint about the hotel. THE NOISE. I had to finish a project the first 2 days there and my ability to concentrate was severely compromised by the BLARING POUNDING music from about 9 to 5. OK so most people aren't there to work, but then when I was sick, and feeling like hell, well ... like I said thats not the hotel's fault. I probably would have given it one higher if I didn't have such a miserable trip. I think most young, or young at heart, travelers could have a fine time here. The pool is nice and has a swim up bar and a slide (that was closed), public hot tub and they do have a beach AND a lagoon. The beach is butted up against the radisson. Thats it FWIW
March-April Spring Break
from A TripAdvisor Member
I represent 10 or so kids who wish to write about this hotel , I traveled there in early April in both '00 and '01 and intend to go back there in '03 It is the most fun spring break destination in the world , it's safe with a good % of kids and stuff to do , the only reason I can see for someone to write poorly about this establishment is that they do not fit into the teenage demographic and should go somewhere else between March and April
Just returned from Wyndham and was totally disappointed. I know that it is scheduled for demolition but the staff and especially the Royal Holiday people were obnoxious. The staff in the sundry shop barely looked at you when you were paying for your purchase. They looked... more
