Never having been to Ibiza before, we got the chance of this one cheap, and badly needing a break we decided to go for it despite our family saying we were to old for Ibiza!
Es grop Apartments were a pleasant surprise, having paid a lot more money for some hell holes! our apartment was directly above the chinese restutaunt
and spotlessly clean with a view to die for across the bay the staff were so helpful and pleasant
The stairs were not a problem to us (and we are not in the first flush of youth!)
We didn't find the fact that the season was ending and everywhere was closing down as we just wanted to chill out and relax I would have no hesitation in recommending Es Grop and Portinatx to anyone as long as you had no walking difficulties the apartment staff from the owners to the cleaners made you feel as if you were part of their family and everone in the village were always so cheerful and friendly
we will be going back again to the same apartments next year

Well firstly this holiday was a last minute booking after a terrible British summer so when we only paid £734 for 2 adults and 2 kids for 2 weeks we went to Ibiza for the first time with an open mind.
We had a great time in Portinaxt but it is so quiet. W were there for last week in August and 1st week in September and the whole place was so chilled out.
The apartment we had had a fabulous view of the bay and in general even though we found our apartment decor and furnishings very dated we could hardly complain for the price we paid. Yes, I agree that we should have had an electric kettle and an electric toaster but hey, we managed. You could hire these from reception. , Air-con is badly needed in the room and yes, there is a problem with ants but strangely it was in our bathroom and nowhere else.
We hired a car for 6 days because the buses aren’t very regular and taxis everyday would prove to be more expensive than hiring a car, We toured the whole island - I cannot recommend enough Benirras Beach at sunset, its just fabulous and 10 mins from Portinaxt but you really need a car or a boat to get there.
Not many bars or restaurants in the resort and the local shop is not the cheapest but these little shops never are are they?
Delboys bar was not my thing at all, the kids had a laugh but it just felt a little bit tacky like Blackpool. Vincent’s is another bar, it had air-con and was nice but I wish they had a smoking ban in place. I really missed that on hols.
Overall we had a good holiday, The Es Grop apartments were adequate and they are in need of modernisation. The welcome we received and the Es Grop bar and Chinese were great, good English breakfast also, but Portinaxt is just too quiet for us. San Antonio was to horrible for us. So would we go back? Yes, but probably stay halfway such as Es Cana or Santa Eulalie and Calla San Vincent has a lovely beach also.

Superb. This is the 3rd time my kids and I have been to Es Grop apartments and guess what, we are going again next year. It’s quiet and friendly and in a superb location. The apartments are basic but always clean, but the views from the apartments are brill. I must also mention that the Es Grop bar/Chinese is excellent thanks mainly to David and his staff. Roll on next year.

I had an amazing time at the Es Grop. Before I went I read some of the reviews and got a bit worried but I had the best holiday ever.
The apartments are a bit dated but who really cares? We didn’t book a 5 star hotel so we weren’t expecting one. We found the beds absolutely fine. We were in the older apartments but I had a look in the more up dated ones and they were lovely.
I read some complaints about the pool being cold. It was just what we needed because it was very hot weather and it was just great jumping in a lovely cool pool.
Its a lovely quiet little resort apart from the El Presedente can be a little loud (the hotel next door) but we didn’t mind as the noise stops bang on 12 when most people are out anyway.
Yes there is a lot of steps (about 60) but we didn’t mind as they were manageable and on the way down you can view the little frog pond, look out for tiny lizards or look out at the beautiful view.
Oh and there are a lot of ants out on the balcony and they can get in the rooms when the doors are open but we only ever found 1 or 2 in our apartment. You just have to try not to leave food lying around.
When we went out at night we often went to Vinces and Del Boys. Both great fun and my mum won a bottle of vodka at Del Boys!
It’s really great for kids especially on Mondays as that is family fun night. The beaches are really lovely as well. One day we hired a pedal boat. Tiring, but really worth it as we got an hour and when you pedal along the rocks you see little crabs, lots of fish and we even saw an octopus!
We loved it so much in Portinax at the Es Grop that we are going back next year!

Oh where oh where to start. We booked the Es Grop apartments for me my husband & two kids aged 4 & 1. We read some of the reviews and just laughed. We hate holiday moaners & thought people were been silly complaining about a few stairs bit of noise etc.
Oh my god! Do not book the Es Grop if you have a pushchair. We swore when we got back we would put an honest review.
We are young fit and healthy and it took both of us to manage the stairs with the pushchair, it was hard work. We heard you can walk round which took about an extra ten mins or more but be warned, pushing the pushchair up the hill in the dark with no lighting is worse.
The apartments we thought were very nice, really impressed, however do not waste your money on a safety box as I did, having been told that the building would be locked from 8 at night, this was not the case usually about 11, if they could be bothered, hence I got my money back for the 2nd week.
The noise from the El Presidente depended on where your room was. Our room was very noisy almost next door. This was hard when you’re trying to get the kids to settle.
We had friends staying at Playa den Bossa over the road from Space and the El Presidente was chucking out double the noise of space. I am not lying it did go off about 12 but not nice when our little pumpkins were getting up at 7.
The resort was very pretty but bugger all to do and we are no party animals a few restaurants were ok but again no entertainment. Also we saw so many people with pushchairs struggling around the resort WHY it is a family resort with stairs everywhere.
I don’t expect wide doorways and ramps but the most basic task of going to the supermarket needed military planning. I have gone on a bit, but we were not told any of this if we had we would not have gone.

Had an amazing time in Portinatx, a really lovely place. Shame I couldn't say the same about the apartments. We nicknamed it Fawlty Towers!
Beds were the worst I've ever slept on, you could feel the springs whenever you moved, the shower was awful, they changed the shower head three times in three days. First no cold water, which is great when you've got an 8 month old baby!! Then no hot water, then no water at all!!
We were also put on the third floor, as if we hadn't had to climb enough steps with a pushchair already... They wouldn't move us either. The cot they put in the room was not safe for an animal let alone a baby. The wire bottom was so caved in that I'm sure my baby would have fell straight through if I'd put him in. The pool was ice cold too, we had to use another hotel's pool.
Portinatx is so pretty though, and the people there are lovely. Zulu bar was amazing as was the El Ciguena restaurant, top class food, and service.
Would definitely recommend Portinatx but be warned if you book in at Fawlty Towers, stay there at your own risk!!

Es Grop is a great location on the island of Ibiza. We booked with MyTravel and had a great room, the balcony overlooked the horse shoe bay which was stunning both in the morning and at sunset.
Es Grop is a friendly place, very clean and ideal for families with young children. Although there are a lot of stairs to climb up from the beach, so not ideal if you have walking difficulties.
The Chinese restaurant on the middle floor is excellent for food and service. There is a pool there to so if the kids get restless they can go for a swim while you have a jug of sangria.
The bottom bar is more or less on the beach and is a sun trap -so make sure you apply plenty of sun cream. The restaurant next door to Es Grop is also good with stunning views over the bay whilst you have dinner - service there good also.
Would recommend staying at Es Grop, if you don’t mind the stairs and hills.

Just got back from Es Grop apartments, just like to say what a fantastic week we had.
The apartments were a bit dated but they were absolutely spotless, cleaned 3 times and all linen and towels changed.
We noticed on other comments that people had mentioned the lack of an electric kettle, this was the case but there was however a kettle for the stove and this didn't affect our holiday what so ever.
Staff and cleaners were always friendly and always spoke, just felt nice being there. We think this was the best time to go, beginning of May as the pools and beaches were not crowded.
Places to eat were Delboys they do a cracking English breakfast about £3.50,the Chinese in the Es Grop Bar was also bang on, and reasonably cheap.
For a lovely meal with a fantastic setting over the sea, go to the Jardin del mar restaurant, just left from main beach 2 mins down rd but you can’t miss it from beach, again very friendly staff and very nice food. We ate there 3 times.
Can’t wait to go back to Es Grop and Portinatx again would recommend to families and couples, just remember you’re not booking a Hilton hotel so don't expect one.
Keep an open mind and enjoy your holiday.

We stayed here June 2006.
The staff were friendly (even the cleaners). The room was basic but pretty clean. Ants could be a problem, but this is reduced if you don't leave food in the open. The beds however, were appalling!
They were lumpy and extremely uncomfortable - we had to use thick blankets to lay on top of the mattress, to make them a little more bearable. The sheets also smelled of cooking oil, because they hang the laundry out to dry above the company's Chinese restaurant, of all places! The smell was sickly!
The walk to the beach via the steps is not as bad as people make out! The view is so beautiful you have nicer thoughts on your mind, other than counting the steps.
Plus on your journey up/down the steps you can view the frog pond, and see the tiny lizards - lovely. The steps are still manageable, even after a few drinks ha-ha!
The beach (in front of the Zulu Lounge) is great, and safe for those with children. It's also nice to stand in the water and feed the fish that will circle around you (this was a highlight of the holiday).
You can hire pedelo's, but the cheeky guys that hire them, are often a little deceitful, and will not offer to give you the change they owe you - in fact I found several workers in Portinatx a little arrogant in this way - so I learned to refrain from tipping as a rule.
Oh and if you have a storm while there - watch out for the jellyfish (normally you will not see them).
The food is limited here, all selling the same food, so after the first week we found it hard to decide where to eat.
For a drink though, we loved to chill out at the Zulu Lounge. Here the staff are friendly, the music is great to chill-out to, and the view of the sea is great.
From here my hubby and I could have a drink, and watch our teenager play on the sand - heaven! Problem was, we found this was the only bar that suited our taste, so Portinatx for us was very limiting.
As for the English bars i.e. Del Boys etc, I don't mean to sound disrespectful but, such bars are ok if you are looking for an English cafe that also provides entertainment such as karaoke and football matches on SKY - not my cup of tea.
But hey, each to their own - such bars did attract a lot of loyal customers, that would drink/eat there on a daily basis.
Travelling around the island on buses is a nightmare because the bus times are limited. We personally didn't find Ibiza town as pretty as we imagined, or Saint Antonio.
The hippy market that visits Portinatx isn't worth viewing either; it's very small, expensive and hard to spot anything authentic.
I hope I haven't been to negative about Portinatx. I would in fact go back again, as the sea/beach is absolutely fab.
Next time I will stay in another apartment, go for only 1 week, and look into hiring a car.
If you want someone to chill, and not overspend, then this is a good location - in fact one of the nicest resorts we have been to - just don't go for too long!

I enjoyed my holiday, the island is very pretty but the only problem was there was no atmosphere at night time but we hired a car for 2 days which we found was very easy, we went to a hippy market on a Wednesday that was very interesting.
We found that when we were reading about the apartments it had said there was a kettle etc but actually there was nothing of the sort in the bathroom, we had more than a few friends which were ants, when we asked other people if they had them they replied no.

Just got back from a weeks holiday at the Es Grop apartments and although we had a relaxing holiday, I was looking forward to coming home. The apartments really do need air conditioning. Yes you can hire a fan - although I rang ahead to reserve one and we still didn't get one until the third day - but it doesn't make much difference - it just blows the hot air around the room. Apart from that the apartment was ok - bit of an ant problem and surprisingly I did miss having an electric kettle and toaster. We didn't have any problem with the noise from the hotel next door - in fact it served as our entertainment during the day - and you are on holiday! They stop bang on 11.30pm and you have to expect some noise.
We found the reception and maintenance staff absolutely brilliant - really polite. It's a shame we couldn't say the same for the Zulu Bar/restaurant. The food was awful and the service was dreadful - we waited over 30 mins to order, the food took another 45mins and we then waited 30mins for our bill. And the waitresses were extremely rude. In contrast, the Es Grop pub and Chinese was great - the staff were really friendly and the Chinese is probably the best I have ever had.
There are a lot of steps and it does get tiresome as you can't do anything without going up and down them, at least in the evening.
Portinatx is really quiet as well. We thought it may be quiet compared to Playe D’En Bossa, San Antonio etc but this is really, really quiet. The buses are quite unreliable and the cabs are expensive so its probably best to hire a car - although if you want to base yourself somewhere quieter but still take in the nightlife in San An and Ibiza town, I wouldn't stay in Portinatx - Santa Eulalia is probably a better bet.
All in all - we wouldn't go back - much too quiet for us - but we heard lots of people describing it as paradise - maybe for them but certainly not for us!

Your first impression is wow, due to the location and view from the apartment (if you get one facing the sea at the front). After that it is all down hill, this was without doubt the worst equiped apartment we have stayed in during 30 years of travelling. You can probablly accept no air con, although we are in 2009,and the tired decor but no glasses, no way to make toast, egg cups, cooking utensils, ice tray, cork screw and towels you could rub metal down with do not make for a good self catering holiday. But it came with a pestle and mortar so thats ok then.
