great place
Great place, one of my best holidays so far and been lots. The appartment rooms are basic but very clean. Athina and Nicos made our holiday, their hospitality is second to none. They will do anything for you and very friendly and trustworthy. The pool area is lovely and the meals are the best in Kalamaki. Would recommend anyone to stay here. Hoping to return back in september. Geoff, Roberta, John and Dawn from Scotland
Welcoming family run hotel
Nikos, Athina and all the staff at the Rainbow were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were basic but clean and tidy. The food was excellent! and the pool and bar were also very good. Excellent value for money overall can't fault anything (except the rain!!!!!!!!!) Julie and Roger.
Addicted to the Rainbow!
I was lucky enoughj to visit Zante 3 times in 2007, once on my own, once with my 10 year old son, and once with my partner. I stayed at the Rainbow each time. There is no friendlier hotel on the island! Athina & Nico, who run the place, Nico's mum & Dad who do all the cooking, Claire behind the bar, all of them make you feel so very welcome. The rooms are clean and comfortable and have basic amenities (fridge, cooker etc), and now all have air-con, which is essential. The Rainbow seems to attract a diverse clientele, and the friendly, relaxing atmosphere makes hanging out at the pool a real pleasure. It really does feel like a big family holiday. There were various evening entertainments in the bar where children were welcome (and well behaved!). The pool is beautifully clean, and nicely landscaped. A lot of the locals and a few ex-pats use the bar, as do a lot of the reps, so it has a good reputation. I'm going back in June 2008, so I failed at kicking the habit. I really can't rate this place too highly!
Great time at rainbow
Just returned back from Zante and had such a great time .Staying at the rainbow made it even better . If you want a relaxing holiday were the beach is 10 mins walk away and plenty of restaurants and bars to drink and eat some really nice food that is 5 mins walk from the rainbow this is the place. Nikos and Athena (the owners ) are the most friendly poeple, and make you feel at home from the first min you walk in there. The food is gorgeous there too cause its all home made by Athena family . Rooms are very clean , pool is nice , and at night time the bar is a great place to meet poeple and have a laugh , specially with claire , the bar lady she is english and is so funny .All in all if your looking for a great resort and a great hotel with lovely people who cant do enougth for you , then you will love the rainbow .Will be returning soon again .
Relaxing Rainbow
Yes there is a pot of gold at the end of the Rainbow – it is Athena and her family that run this beautiful hotel. Most guests that we met there had been before which speaks volumes but as new visitors we were treated with just as much kindness. The Rainbow is situated on the edge of the resort, well away from the airport and is surrounded by olive groves and chickens!! Having been to the Greek islands many times I was pleasantly surprised at the standard of the room we stayed in. Firstly Athena gave us a choice of room, which was perfectly adequate in size, well equipped with full size fridge, spotlessly clean and unlike most all white Greek rooms had lovely brightly coloured duvets on the comfortable beds. There was also a handy fly screen to keep out those nasty mosquitoes. The room and also hotel were spotlessly clean. We were woken to the sounds of the cockerels crowing each morning, which we think is a lovely sound! The hotel has apparently been extended and improved over the last few years and what a lovely job they have done. The best thing I can say is that it really doesn’t feel like a hotel. The family, or rather Athena’s father in law, also produce their own wine – very nice – and also their own olive oil, which you can buy. All of the food is homemade and delicious, especially the Baclava – the best ever. Unfortunately English people are considered to prefer chips with their meals so if like us you want to get away from them then just ask for Greek potatoes instead. Nothing is too much trouble. Zante is a beautiful island and we hired 2 mopeds for the week from Merlis, which we arranged before travelling through the Internet. Julie at Merlis was very helpful and we would definitely recommend them. They give you printed information on places to visit but also Athena told us of other places which were off the tourist trail. As for restaurants the most popular seems to be Michaelos but it can be a rather rushed experience and we have our doubts about the carrots and peas which tasted like tinned to us, also another holiday maker we met said the same, so don’t be put off but make your own mind up. Eating at the Rainbow is a much more pleasant experience and although there is a smaller menu it is all excellent and home made, mostly by Athena’s mother in law. However for variety we would recommend Stanis – try the stamnas and pastitsio, which are lovely Greek dishes cooked in terracotta pots. Food and service excellent and you won’t be rushed there. Thanks to Athena and her family at the Rainbow. We look forward to returning and joining the long list of return guests.
Chillin' out at the Rainbow
We have been to Kalamaki 7 times now and these were good clean rooms. The resort is very good for families and couples as are these apartments. The pool area is excellent and the owners are very friendly and helpful. Its a 10 min stroll to the beach and is near to the lovely restaurants. We look forward to coming here again.
repeat traveller
Having stayed at the Rainbow many times its almost like going home! The owners Athena and Nikos are the most friendly and helpfull of people and at the rainbow its ...answer : yes whats the question! nothing is to much trouble. The apartments as you'd expect are basic but very clean and the pool and bar/restaurant areas are clean and very relaxing. Theres a great atmoshere throughout the whole place . The main street to Kalamaki is only a slow 10 min stroll away and the beach only 15 min stroll away so ideally situated. Miss going to the Rainbow and you really have missed out.101% recommended. Dave
Ideal place to stay relax and enjoy the island and the people
My wife and I have stayed at the Rainbow many many times over the last 10 years. Our daughter and her husband have always said "Why do you keep going back to the same place" We decided to ask them to come with us they loved it and now know why we always go back. Nicos, Athena and the family who own the Rainbow are a lovely family and nothing is to much trouble. The pool is beautiful and spotlessly clean - the snack food during the day is ideal and the Taverna for an evening meal is superb everything is fresh and the prices are excellent Nicos's mum does the cooking and I have asked her to marry me more than once. Sat-television for the football brilliant - It is only about a 15 minute stroll to the beach and the other bars and restaurants are only a 5 minute walk away. We have already book again for May 2007 and cant wait to be there again. The best way to see the island is to hire a car for a few days the roads have improved and you are never in traffic jams so go and enjoy yourselves ideal for both young and old
Absolutely fantastic!!!
My boyfriend and I have just got back from Rainbow apartments in Kalamaki, Zakynthos, and it was brilliant! We had booked as self-catering, 2 star hotel, allocate on arrival, so we were starting to get really nervous that it would be awful. When we arrived, we were shown to our rooms by a really friendly woman who's english was perfect! The down side of our room was that it was in the old part of the apartments, and wasn't newly furbished like the rest of them, but that didn't really make much difference. The rooms were very basic, as expected in greece, and we were actually quite privalaged to have a shower curtain! The apartments, we found out, were family run, which made it seem a lot nicer. All the staff would strive to help us, and one of the bar men in particular was really nice and a good laugh. Although we only sunbathed around the pool twice, it was very peaceful, and a happy, relaxed atmosphere. The pool was one of the few on this part of the island not surrounded by the hotel. Instead it was surrounded by beautiful landscape that gave the hotel a wonderful green backdrop. The walk to town was only 5 minutes away, and the walk to the beach only 10. The hotel was perfectly placed just far enough away from town that it wasn't noisy on a night. The hotel itself didn't get particularly busy, and I'd say the average age of people staying there was 40 +. During the day, we had the choice of the beach, go to main Zante town, or an excursion, and at night the option was there to either have a nice meal (the food everywhere was gorgeous) and a quiet drink, or have a meal and a lot of drinks in music bars. The excursion we went on was through our rep for Airtours. We went to the blue caves and shipwreck cove. We were truely let down by this. We were on a massive boat that was over crowded and we only managed to find a seat downstairs that was under cover and really hot. We sailed quickly past the blue caves, and stopped at shipwreck for what was supposed to be an hour to swim or sunbathe. It only lasted half an hour and we were whisked off again! If you are planning to go on these trips, book with one of the locals on a small fishing boat. They are a lot cheaper and will also take you through the blue caves rather than straight past them. All in all, this holiday was fantastic, and both me and my boyfriend will definately be going back there!
holidays
I have been holidaying in Kalamaki for several years as a lone traveller and as a member of a group of friends and have stayed in several apartment hotels especially in Kalamaki. For several holidays i have stayed at the Rainbow apartments on the zante town road from Kalamaki centre.I can truly say that i have never stayed in a more friendly and relaxing place in Zante, Yes the accomodation is basic but very clean and everybody is friendly and the atmosphere relaxing and tranquil.I feel as do my travel friends that the whole essence of the island is simmed up in the Rainbow where you are treated as family and friends not customers or punters! Miss going to the Rainbow and you miss out!!!! D Butler
