Gran Canaria Is a lovely place and this was our 2nd time here. The Corona Roja was the cheapest we could find for time of year. It was further away from the center of things than the previous stay, but bearing In mind fairly short walking distances, the other option Is the cheap Taxis.
The hotel It's-self Is very basic S/C accommodation, but sufficient for our family of 5. We choose to mostly self cater, occasionally having a poolside lunch-time snack at the Hotel, which was OK and reasonably priced. There are plenty of restaurants that are In competition with others that can give you also good value for money. For us the location was good for beaches, but a little out of the way for the main resort centre, although as stated the Taxis are cheap. 5 minutes down the road there are bars for all kinds , though mainly catered for the Irish holiday maker youngsters, as It's close to the Irish centre, which In relation to the hotel is mainly young Irish In the summer.
Most were good natured ,but as you'd expect some are a bit rowdy with the booze and there was one Instance of a fight and police were called. Down the road there are several bars that cater for a good English/Scottish/Irish breakfast/nightime boozers, plus a Karaoke bar/club with good promotions. For us as a family the best was a walk/Taxi to the Yumbo centre with excellent drag shows! The Hotel was good value as a base and as we were on a budget (2nd holiday) the total price was the best so far In recent years.

Me and a friend stayed in these apartments in October 2007 and quite frankly it is the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. We were told when we booked that the apartments were close to the Yumbo centre and they were at least an half hour away walking.
When we first checked in we were given a room right at the back of the hotel, that was disgraceful it had chips in the bath etc. Anyway we were moved the next day into another room which wasn't much better. To top it off we asked if we could keep the room on as our flight didn't go until 2am and we were refused therefore had to spend all day just wandering about. Was not very happy at all and shall never book at these apartments again.

The hotel was really nice and the staff were quite helpful. Although it helped that one of my friends could speak Spanish. There were plenty of activities and places to go and see.
One of the few downsides was the mount of reps trying to persuade you to come on their booze cruises etc. We visited a fantastic steak house called Toro Negro which served huge dishes at a reasonable price.
Being an Irish citizen we naturally spent a lot of time in the Irish centre n we met so many great people, many of whom I still remain in contact with! We only went out there for a week which we all agreed was too short, but I have been told that two weeks in Gran Canaria can be too much so if I was to go out again I would probably go for a happy medium of ten days.
Not so surprisingly we all went there for the night life so if you’re the type of person that likes sightseeing during the day and heading to bed early then I wouldn't recommend it lol. You can get involved in many activities such as jet skiing etc down at the beaches.
We visited a huge water park which was so much fun, it was a fantastic day out and we also went to an insane foam party on a tour bus and we were accompanied by several other buses containing hundreds of people and that was one mad night!

Hi, just back from 2 weeks in Playa Del Ingles and stayed in these apartments, I have stayed in them 4 times now and have no complaints about them, yes rooms are basic but what do you expect when booking into cheap accommodation for 18-30 yr olds!!! If you're going and expecting the Ritz, well don't go there.
Rooms are basic we had a 1 bed between 3 of us (20, 23 and 23) so ya can only imagine what state the apartment was in but the maids were great came everyday apart from Sunday but always asked us on Sat did we need anything, very nice ladies!!
Pool area nice and clean, pool not so clean but hay I don't swim so didn't bother me, pool bar and restaurant was very nice, staff there were very helpful and friendly.
Location was perfect, being away for 2 weeks can be very hard on ya if ya fancy going out EVERY NIGHT but for those who want to stay in its about 5 min walk from my fav place the Irish centre so not so noisy (just a quick hello to my man Hakem in Flanagans, love ya babe cant wait to come back in may for 4 months and c ya).
Anyway overall these apartments are very nice the staff are great location perfect and facilities excellent, will defo be back to stay here again next year.

Ok, well the apartments were basic but for £280pp incl flights and transfers you can't expect the Ritz! The rooms were kept clean, the maids came in frequently to make and change the beds. Although they could have done with providing fresh towels everyday (rather than the 2 towel changes we got all week!).
The pool was pretty gross though - dirty sun loungers that didn't get hosed down at night, strange debris floating in the pool and the most algae ridden pool side I have seen in a while! Best sticking to the beach (which was beautiful) unless you have the immune system of someone who has had every inoculation under the sun... apart from that though, it was bearable.
The staff where ok, the location was all right - although its a bit of a trek to the Kasbah - took about 15mins walk whilst sober. Its near Keane's bar in the Irish Centre which you must visit and go and say hello to Bjorn!
Overall, if you are self catering and have got it cheap then you can't moan, at the end of the day its just somewhere to crash at night - if you paid a fair bit though or went all inclusive then you have got yourself a bit of a rubbish deal. These apartments are mainly for the youngsters among us and the young at heart alike! No good for kids and not recommended for the quiet and retiring types.

I stayed at these apartments on the 2nd week in September. These are ideally situated only 2 min walk from town centre but quiet enough to get a good nights sleep. These apartments are good for all ages. The room we had was a studio which was very nice and spacious with a separate bedroom and a huge balcony and kitchen we didn't have any kettle or toaster or any bowls but apartments were good enough to go back to again!

After reading these reviews you are probably considering changing hotels, don’t! As with all holidays you get what you pay for. I shared a room with 5 other people (all between 18 and 19) so you can imagine how messy it got but every day the maids came in and made our beds and generally tided up, they never woke us up and dint even go into the rooms people were asleep in.
The pool was kept clean and tidy and we saw 2 cockroaches in 2 weeks! We had a brilliant time and met loads of friends, our reps looked after us really well and even the 18-30 reps who we didn’t book with spoke to us.
The only problem with the hotel is that I wouldn’t recommend it for children it is mainly populated by the 18-30 and escapades clients and can get quite noisy. we did have to try to sleep through a German man screaming one night, but we made our fair share of noise!
One thing you have to do in the hotel is sunbath on the roof (the 18-30 rep Amy will show you the way up).
Overall we paid for a cheap self catering apartment that’s what we got. And the lifts never broke not once!

Well we were moved here as an alternative 2 days into our holiday. First glances we were pleased with it at least things were open and half decent. Then we got to our room.
Wow 13th floor we had a sea view alright right over the top of the 2 hotels in front of us. Most of these apartments appear to have been used by the 18-30 holidayers based at this hotel. And they really have gone to town on the apartments none of the balcony doors locked shut, kitchen doors hanging off. Basically damage every where.
But the worst part was you couldn’t shut the balcony doors properly so you were kept awake most of the night by the traffic on a major road/junction right outside the hotel. Once again the resort was ok very commercialised very British. Not great.
Spent as little time in apartment as possible due to maintenance constantly knocking holes in wall to find a leaking drain pipe what a whiff.

The resort itself of Playa del Ingles is absolutely brilliant. A party of ten stayed in Corona Roja for 2 weeks in august and enjoyed it very much. The rooms very spacious with a lovely sea view especially if you’re on the tenth floor or above.
The only thing I could complain about is sometimes the lifts didn’t work and you had to walk the stairs going down is ok but walking to the tenth floor is a killer, but sure its all good craic. Life wouldn’t be any funny if everything went smoothly now.
Overall Corona Roja was very good and would definitely go back to them apartments.

I really enjoyed my stay at Corona Roja it is an ideally situated hotel for all the best parts of Playa Del Ingles.
The food on site is of good quality and cheap. Another benefit is with it being the tallest hotel with a red sign on top it is easy to locate after a few drinks if your a little disorientated. It is close to good bars and the pub next door does a really good English breakfast.
The staff are also friendly. And the rooms are clean and modern with good facilities. I would definitely go back again. But as it says I wouldn’t recommend for families or old people. It is for the party lovers out there!

I was very disappointed with the standard of this accomadation. Ok it was cheap and the hotel is aimed at groups between 18 and 30 but surely some standards should still be observed!!!
Our room although in a great poolside position on the ground floor had no windows it was like staying in a cave. There were also cochroaches everywhere. Don't think our room had ever been cleaned - certainly wasn't whilst we stayed there!!
When we tried to talk to the manager about it he was completely unapproachable and didn't want to know. The reps were more interested in selling their trips and trying to get everyone drunk!!
Would definately not stay here again.
