Gran Ducat Hotel

I came back from this hotel today. Yes the location is fantastic and yes it is clean but I'm afraid that does not make up for the unbelievably small rooms. We spent a very short space of time in our room, as with all our city breaks but the room was truly awful. It had a queen-size bed (which was rock hard) and no external window and had the overall feel of university halls. Had it been cheaper, say £50 a night then I would not complain so much but this is definitely not a 3 star hotel and not worth more than a budget price. Overall it was the fact we had no useable window that was the greatest problem, so if you do decide to stay here (despite the reviews as we did) then don't stay in room 512. It is also extremely noisey. On the plus side, it is clean and in a good location but so are other hotels and I would not stay there again.

Plus Points: *Staff were very helpful and friendly, all spoke very good English *Great location for restuarants and bars *Room had optional heating! *No street noise (did not have a street facing room) *Informative & helpful hotel website *Very clean Negatives: *No hot water on first morning (seemed to have sorted itself by the evening) *Hotel was over an underground train track so could hear whenever a train passed (every 20 mins or so approx. 7am to 1am) BUT did not stop me from sleeping (& I'm generally a light sleeper) *Cost of hotel did not include breakfast (but there are some great cafes near by for a more Spanish breakfast experience) Overall: In terms of accomodation you get what you pay for but a really good location

29 December - 2 January 2005. Good Hotel. Rooms are small but very clean. Small, well stocked bar and tv area has computer with free internet access. Only 2 minute walk to the top of Las Ramblas. BUT.. The noisest hotel I have ever stayed at. No sound proofing whatsoever.

just got back from a 1 night stay, the location of the hotel is fantastic just at the top of Las Ramblas. Hotel itself is spotless as were the rooms. Staff at the hotel are polite. friendly and helpful. For the money you pay it can't be beaten, i would recommend it to anyone.

Just returned from staying 5 nights at the hotel Gran Ducat. Our room on the 5th floor at the rear of the hotel was tiny, however, we only really slept there so not a problem. The room was spotless, clean towels everyday and several bedding changes too. We had a balcony but no furniture or view. We ate breakfast at the hotel once, it was nice but there were nicer places to try. The staff were v friendly.

Seeing some of the reviews we thought, sounds like a great hotel plus it centrally located... Well the only thing going for this hotel is its location, everything else is really terrible. The rooms are so tiny that you dont have any place to keep your luggage. Dont even get me started on the bathrooms. For the price that one pays for this hotel its no where near a 3 star... The only positive point in the hotel is the free internet access which they have. We stayed only for one night and next day we promptly checked in to the Citadines on Las Ramblas which is much more central, with fantastic facilities and just a bit more expensive.

July '05: Just back from a weekend break with my Mam. Fantastic city, fantastic accomodation, fantastic time. The Hotel Gran Ducat is superbly located to La Rambla and other tourist areas. We got the bus link from the airport to the city and had only a few minutes walk to the hotel. We found it clean, friendly and the breakfast in the morning was lovely. The only downside was that the room was a little small and the windows only single glazed so light sleepers may find it hard to get to sleep. The area in which the hotel itself is located is lovely and when I return to Barcelona for another look I'll definitely stay at this hotel without question.

I returned from the Gran Ducat on the 1st July 2005 we stayed for 3 nights. i have never been to a hotel i have not picked myself, but my daughter did for a surprise trip, fistly the hotel is very central, a few metres and you are in the main square, the main department store is opposite (which has the cheapest 2ltr bottle of water i have ever seen even cheaper than the supermaket), The hotel was very clean, smallish room but big enough for the two of us, the breakfast was good buy european standards there was lots of choice, we thought the staff were helpful too. we had a room on the first floor facing the main road, the room was double glazed and the only noise we heard was the rumble of the underground as it went by, it must run under the hotel, i must add that it didnt stop us sleeping, i would go back to this hotel again.

Spent two nights at the three star Hotel Gran Ducat after staying in a four star hotel just up the coast. The Gran Ducat was probably the better of the two with its friendly, chatty staff and clean well maintained rooms. Having previously stayed in hotels in Barcelona that were incredibly grotty, if admittedly a few pounds cheaper, this made a great choice. The hotel is also well located and easy to find, just at the very top of the Ramblas and off to the right. Its also just across the street from the Pl. de Catalunya train station that runs directly to the Airport. The rooms are not overly large and the view from the window didn't offer much but with a free internet connection, good air-conditioning and a breakfast served until a decent hour, I'd certainly be happy to stay there again. Overall I would say this is a great hotel in a good location for the money.

I was there in February 05 and spent 4 nights there. All i can say is that it has great location and it was very near like 3 min walk to the nearest metro which was Catalunya. The hotel was clean and the staff were super friendly, they didnt have a kettle to boil water so the staff opened up the mini bar for us to get hot water at 2 am in the morning. They also spoke good english as well. There are also some very nice restaurants and tapas bar next to,across the road and at the back of the hotel. It might be a bit noisy because of the traffic below but for the price i paid and the location of it,i'm not complaining.
