Mar 2010, Egypt!

We stayed in the Shedwan Garden Hotel in December 2009. We were staying on All-inclusive basis and were quick to discover what a waste this was! ROOM On arrival we were allocated a ground floor room. I asked to be moved as I never feel safe in ground floor rooms. Also there... more

It was my partners first time abroad and I thought after booking that it was a bit of a wild card going to Egypt but we had a brilliant time, obviously the locals hassle you to buy from them but if you just ignore them it's not a problem. (we found this hard as we are not... more

I stayed in Shedwan Garden this May (2008). The teritory of the hotel is big and as I realised - the greenest in all Hurgada. The gardeners are working all the day taking care of this teritory. So, the surroundings are wonderfull. Secondly, the food. it was also good and... more

I stayed here with my 11year old daughter for one week. We travelled with a large group. Staying at this hotel is like taking a cruise. There will be some things that you do not like, but that's life. Overall, it was fantastic! The staff bent over backwards for us. Our room... more

Lovely hotel with private beach, staff where always smiling and helpful, would go back. Rooms where cleaned daily by staff who always had time for a chat, and plenty of entertainment in the evening time.

Firstly the British are outnumbered 1 to 70, so the food is mainly catered for the German and Russian taste. Very small buffet restaurant had to wait for free tables. Found ourselves paying for the other restaurants in order to have hot food. Beach towels never washed.... more

Lovely Hotel with good facilities, food left a bit to be desired though
We stayed here in the last week of May, the weather was amazing and the Pool was brilliant. The Pool boys were very helpful, make sure to get up early if you want a sunbed though! The staff at the pool bars were very rude!! All other staff were helpful and spoke excellent english. Our room was perfect and always very clean, but do be prepared for the incredibly hard matresses. The gardens were beautiful and full of cats. Our tour operator Red Sea Holidays offered lots of day trips and advice on getting around. This Hotel is bit too far out of the city centre for evenings out, but does have its own private beaches. Unfortunately the food was our only down point, it was very repetative, breakfast and lunch were OK but we did struggle to find something we liked at dinner towards the end of the week. Overall a beautiful setting, with clean rooms, mostly helpful staff and good facilities.
Disappointing
We were here for a week in June and were disappointed. The rooms were old and tired, some of the staff were very rude and food was "school dinner" variety. We flew from Glasgow and had a problem straight away. The check in was handled by Alba Ground Handling (not Globespan) and we were not aware there was a 32K limit per bag. Our bag was 34K so we had to open the case in the airport and transfer stuff to our hand luggage. Take off was an hour and a half late due to late inbound flight and engine problems. Did not exactly inspire confidence. We arrived after midnight when the AI had finished. Though they might have kept us some sandwiches or a welcome drink but nothing appeared. We had emailed about a quiet room not on the ground floor. We never got a reply but were allocated 6010 which fitted the bill - good fortune or not I do not know. We were unaware we could not use the other restaurants and only the buffet was available to AI guests. This was like a works canteen or school dinners. We ate out most nights - Mafia is just along the road and does great pizzas and pasta or Hard Rock Cafe is 30 LE in taxi and for 2 burgers and 2 beers is about 110 LE or about £12 sterling. The Chinese Restaurant can be accessed from the hotel lobby and you get a 30LE discount from reception. Food is average and the maitre'd takes your order wearing one white cotton glove like a snooker refereee or a member of The Magic Circle LOL. Watch out the taxis will try to scam you by asking for 100LE and trying to give you worthless notes in return. Went to the waterpark - Sindbad £30 sterling each. Not that many slides but the day passed quickly and the buffet lunch was better than our hotel. Beer, ice cream and soft drinks were self-service all day. City tour with Mustaffah was very good although the perfume factory was a bit of a hard sell. Your are not allowed to take food and drinks into the hotel but everyone does. Our rep even told us to do it but obvioulsy we were not covert enough and were frog-marched to reception by the over zealous security guard at the front door.. After a debate we were told to keep the goods and not to do it again! Funny how some rules are enforced and others not. The no reservation of sunbeds in never enforced nor the taking of food from the canteen. The staff are worked like dogs for £15 a week yet there are more managers than hot dinners. They swagger about, bossing the staff and are do bugger all. They need to participate in a "Back To The Floor" experiment. Some nights there was only one member of staff in the lobby bar coping with orders from the bus boys and random punters wandering in. Managers/Supervisors were adjusting flowers or coffee cups LOL. Hassle is everywhere and you can not even relax round the pool without offers of massage/beauty centre/fish restaurant/boat trips. Very annoying to say the least. Would not rush back.
fantastic place, Lovery people
This hotel was very well kept, The room was big and spacious and very clean.. we thought the location was great, right on the beach, with great snorkling.. The staff were very freindly. We would go there again.
The staff were very friendly and helpful apart from the staff in the snack bar who were very rude
My daughter and I have just arrived back and thought the hotel was very good and the staff within the hotel were absolutely lovely, they looked after us in the resturant and at the beach and our room was cleaned every day to a high standard -we were on the ground floor and cats were all over the place but we up-turned our chairs in the balconey and it was fine. Spoke to a couple and their room was so much better than ours. Our room had been painted , but they had painted over drawers and we could not open them . Our only objection was when we asked for a drink at the snack bar at the pool, not the Lido bar , the staff totally ignored us and served men -they were the rudest people I have ever come across. We had the best trip ever with Globespan rep Mustafiff going round Hurgada in a bus.
Great hotel
Very beautiful and peaceful hotel. We have all inclusive and food was great every day. The beach was fantastic. There was two different kind of parts. One was very shallow and the other was better for swimming and snorkeling. Staff was very very nice and cheerful, but not in the reception. There they were rude to me sometimes.
Good value
Very clean.Food ample , not European, but nice. A lot of cats around the hotel.Service good. Local whisky very bad other drinks a bit iffy but OK.. Staff very friendly and helpful. No local shops worth seing and shop keepers give grief. Swimming pool and beach are good. Sunbeds, towels good. Glass bottom boat, there is a grey one with bigger windows to see thru. sea is clean and snorkling ,diving good. Enjoyed 2 weeks and recommend
Different
My Husband and i visited this hotel for a winter last minute break. The weather was fantastic, the hotel is very clean but if you are going i would advise to upgrade, unless you like cats they are everywhere, and if you happen to get a bedroom on the ground floor they just seem to wander into your rooms most guests didn't seem to bother but we were glad we were up high. The food wasn't to bad always something to eat and very clean. The staff are very good but make sure you have lots of egyptian pounds for tips. Hurghada is not for the faint hearted it is impossible to even walk outside of the hotel day or night as you get accosted by taxi drivers and shop keepers, most people in the hotel hadn't been out of the hotel all week it's a big problem in the area, even if you do go outside there is nothing for you to see except building works and lots of rubble. Even when you are on the beach staff from the hotel are trying to sell you something from massage hairdressing and get quite indignant when you say No. The airport toilets are attended by men for both ladies and gents be very wary they follow you into the toilets asking for money this can be very frightening for everyone, there are signs that say no tips but they just ignore it. I'm glad we went on the holiday it was an experience but would not go back to Hurghada for anything it's not worth the hasle.
downtown hurgada hotel
holiday at shedwan gardens in a superior seaview room in main block (appears to be various levels of accomodation) and were totally happy with the room perfect view , furnished similar to grand resort in hurgada . staff in all areas were extremely helpfull and made our stay very memorable . the shedwan gardens is part of a larger twin complex with shedwan golden which you have access to all areas. however we were on all inclusive and this is limited to main resturant . bar and pool bar. .the majority of the guests appear to be german speaking but this is not a problem here as evereyone was very pleasant and positive and we were part of an inital group of ten scottish holidaymakers with globespan to hurgada . the new marina is now open and will be a asset for the area being very upmarket and nicer than the promenade in namma bay (sharm). again this appears to be financed by german backers and got the feeling this will be the red sea version of gran canary (again not a bad thing as im drawn to the german way of running things )good place to holiday in winter
great wintersun
first time to egypt did not know what to expect great hotel had to change room due to grotty bathroom make sure that you complain if needed and they will move you to higher floor only 10 brits in hotel but did not bother us.food in both bars good only chips at lunch time i am fussy eater and ate every day no bad tummies hotel spotless great weather in pool every day sea a little chilly use sister hotel next door for tennis/footie and activites on beach plenty of loungers around pool and pool towels included as well the odd tip gets excellant service local beer and wine v good did cairo and pymarids excellant just beware sellers at pymarids tgi fridays on nile for lunch and mcdonalds for drive back a long day but worth it hotel gives you packed breakfast and pillows beware shops to left of hotel very pushy we have been to tunisia and this a lot worse they will not take no for an answer get a cab to the hard rock cafe 3 pounds appx lots of shops great copies quicksilver billabong tshirts- sunglasses -handbags bargain prices cant wait for next year
Super hotel and big areal, problem with stairs only
Shedwan hotel consists of Shedwan Garden 4* and Shedwan Beach Hotal which is 3*. They are beside each other and share one beach. The areal of both hotels include a huge and wonderful garden where you can walk for hours escaping either the heat or wind. There are several pools, a baby + kid club plus pools. Beach is nice, 3 slides. The food is excellent, once a week they have oriental food. You can't get enough of it! The service is excellent especially compared to other hotels! Rooms are very nice, I was in the main building, without balcony (window to street) but still it was great! Bathroom with bath tub. Furniture dark wood. Baldachin over bed! The only thing I was fighting with where the many stairs down from the lobby to the gardens and thus to the pools and beach. They were about 20 or more stairs and with a baby pram I needed help every time I wanted to go back to the room, restaurant, lobby and visa verse! Still the waiters were running to help me always! After having seen the Sindbad Beach Resort I definitely can say that this hotel is above average and the service and food is tons better than the one I have just been to. 4 stars and All inclusive is no guarantee this I know now!! The vicinity of Shedwan Garden is "Downtown", which is the old city of Hurghada, with tiny streets and markets. Very simple but still romantic!! All in all I can recommend this hotel. You can't go wrong with this one!
