Loved Ziakis
from Tim_Boxall
We have just returned from 10 days at Hotel Ziakis. The hotel is modern and bright, much better than the usual "simple" Greek standard. The pool area is lovely, though was some competition for sunbeds! The area is clean and a nice outside eating place for the reasonably priced bar food and drinks. The mini market in reception has basic goods and we usually bought our water from there so we didn't have to carry it up the hill from town! The walk to town is very manageable. Turn right out of the hotel down the hill and you'll find the short cut - even easy at night without moonlight or a torch! Favourite local restaurants - Nikolas and Kavos. In Lindos try Mythos (upsteps on your right after tourist info spot on roundabout). The first 4 days we simply stayed around the hotel or visited the lovely local beaches. After this we hired a small car through the hotel from Lindos car hire. The owner Graham (originally from Leeds) gave us a great deal on a practical and economical Hyundai Atos with a/c. We also needed another car after a few days as our party was 6 and he allowed my 22 year old son to drive that one. We visited LIndos (including donkey rides to Acropolis), but beware this is not open till 12.30 on Monday's so in spite of our best plans to miss the crowds by getting there early we failed to actually get in! We also visited Rhodes old town (nice for a wander) and the Water Park at Faliraki (a great day out for all at 20 Euros each). We also tried one beach to the south (Gennadi) which was shingle but lovely and unspoilt and uncrowded. This is where we saw the forest fires from first. Sad to see so much destruction of the forests - fortunately our holiday wasn't spoiled. All in all we had a great time in Rhodes and Ziakis was an excellent base for our time. The owners/staff were all very friendly and helpful. They helped with the car hire and also with arranging taxis to collect us from the airport on our arrival. The standard fare is E45 but we paid a little more for our late night arrival. Block 3 and 4 have best sea views. Ground floor rooms and apartments have slightly larger patios.
Not for the unfit

Just back from staying at the Ziakis. The hotel itself is very clean and the swimming pool is lovely. The temperatures when we were there were hitting 30C+ so very hot. You can purchase air conditioning for €55 for one week (can't remember how much 2 weeks cost.) Also if you are booking car hire, they seem to have a deal with Lindos Rent A Car which is in Pefkos so check that out before anyone else. We never noticed the sign until we had booked with Marathon and I think Lindos rent a car would have been cheaper. The walk down to the beach took us 40 mins although I was 22 weeks pregnant so that probably slowed us down a lot! I reckon it would usually take about 30 mins. Walking back up again would take well over an hour in the heat as it was extremely tiring. I would definately recommend a car for staying here as it is a bit out of the way, We stayed in room 512; not recommended if you want a quiet nights sleep (or 510 which was next door.) It is situated below the bar, and looks out over the swimming pool and over to the sea. The view was amazing but be warned that they do play music in the bar until about 12.30am every night. Most nights it was ok as it wasn't too loud, but one night they had a bunch of people in (not sure if they were guests or not) until around 2.30am and they were jumping up and down with the music blaring. My boyfriend did ask them to turn it down which they did but we still heard the people obviously. It amazes me how you can be 25 mins away from the centre up a hill not near anything else and yet people insist on partying there! We did complain the next morning but they said they wouldn't move us as the only block available was block 1 and people were complaining of some noise from another hotel; I am not sure I believe the girl as I never saw another hotel close by. Other than that, the staff were very friendly; I think it is run by a family and they were very chatty and polite. Our room was cleaned every day (buckets emptied) and every other day there were clean towels. You can pay an extra €30 to hold your room until 6pm or €40 until midnight on the last day. We were only allowed to hold the room until 6pm but it was well worth it as it meant we had an extra day to go off exploring. Pefkos itself is mostly full of British holidaymakers but it is a lovely place to stay as it's quite a couple/family resort. The beach is great too and I would definately recommend swimming there. All in all, we did have a good stay at the Ziakis apart from the one night with the noise but it was good to stay slightly out of the town as the views more than made up for it. Great for couples mostly as it is quite romantic with the views over Pefkos and the sea.
Pefkos Paradise

Just come back from this wonderful hotel/studios and has exceeded all expectations. Read reviews before we went and all were positive. Situated at top of mountain with stunning views...car hire needed unless you want a long walk into town. Hotel amazingly clean and well furnished, the pool amazing with great pool bar. Views to die for from the hotel overlooking Pefkos town. Pefkos itself beautiful, really good bars and excellent food (Enigma for one has amazing open terraces on three floors) catering for all tastes. Cannot praise Ziakis highly enough, they even kept their own little mini market open for us on arrival at 2am in the morning so we could stock up with water and essentials.
Very basic and away from the city center.

Stayed here in mid May. The weather was really nice in Rodos. We took a ferry from Marmaris to Rodos. May isnt a very busy tourist month and so the ferry ride to Rodos was very nice as there were very little people. Got a chance to stretch and take a nap on the way. Upon arriving we went through customs. Of all places I thought it was strange that they made people open up all their belongings and search them. We had gone through 4 different airports and this was the only place we had to unlock our luggage and have them go through it. We rented a car to travel to our destination. The car rental place is right outside the port so it was very convenient. Renting the car was easy and they also let us deliver the car to the airport upon our departure so we didnt have to go back into the city. From the port to Pefki or Lindos it is a long drive. Rodos isnt a very pretty island. It is very dry and not really developed much. I think the only thing that is really nice are the beaches. Water is very clear and beautiful. The sand isnt much to brag about. As you are arriving to the city of Pefki you have to go up a little hill. As soon as you are on the top of the hill you will see the Ziakis Hotel sign on the left side. If you arent paying attention you will miss it. Of course, we missed it. We drove around for an hour looking for the hotel. We stopped and asked but people didnt know where it was as there are many hotels. I knew it was up on the hill so we drove up different streets to get up on the hill and finally found it at the very end. It turns out if you take the same main street where the restaurants and shops are and take it directly to the end past the Nikalous restaurant then you will run into the Ziakis hotel sign. You think have to take this small road up to the hotel. Its not in a convenient location. Totally out of the way. The road up to the hotel is very dark. Luckily we had a car and it wasnt a big deal but there were many people walking up in the dark. Definitely, bring a flash light if you know you wont have a car. About the hotel: The hotel looks very clean on the outside. The grounds are kept up. There is a bar next to the reception area. The drinks are inexpensive. Parking is limited but since everyone drives a small car it wasnt a problem for us. During busy season I dont know what they do. About the Room: The room is very basic. The is a mini frig in the room which is very nice. The linens looked clean. The bed isnt really comfortable. Its not hard but for the price of the room I guess you get what you pay for. We arrived in the evening. Upon entering the room and inspecting it. The bathroom windows are left open. Thus letting in tons of mosquitos and bugs. It took us over an hour to try to kill all the bugs. After that we never opened up the doors or windows for very long. There was always hot water so that wasnt an issue but there wasnt a shower head placement. So we had to hold the shower thing to rinse off and lay it back down after rinsing. We forgot that the maids are off on Sunday so our room was never cleaned. Air condition is usually a separate charge but somehow it was included in with ours but we had to ask for the remote. The air worked well. This isnt a bad place to stay but it is out of the way from everything. If you have a car its not a problem. If you are on foot then I can see how this would be a big problem. About Pefki: The city is very small. You find everything in one small area. Restaurants, stores and beach. We ate at Lindos Restaurant. The food was very good and the people were so nice. The prices were good. For breakfast we ate at Mythos Restaurant right on the corner. It was the best breakfast and very very inexpensive. Lindos: We drove to Lindos to check out the castle. Tons of people come here. We hired a burro (donkey) to take us up to the top as it is a steep climb. For the price (5 euros) it was worth it. The beach area is beautiful when you see it from the castle. On the way down the path takes you right through all the shops. There were many really nice things. Many unique. We thought that these things were sold all through out Greece. We regretted not buying the things we liked because we never saw them again. Bummer for us. Also, the currency exchange rate was the best in Lindos. We also regretted not exchanging all of our money at that point because we didnt find any other place in Greece with that rate. Agathi Beach also known as Golden sands: This beach was referred to us by the gal at the Lindos restaurant in Pefki. It turned out to be a very nice beach area to relax and enjoy for the day. The weather was great. The water was a little cold but after sitting in the sun all day it was refreshing to cool off. Beautiful water. Its pretty much in the middle of nowhere but there are a couple of mom-pop set ups where you can buy drinks and stuff if you dont bring your own. City of Rhodes: Our last stop before heading back to the airport was the castle at Rodos. There really isnt any parking so you park where ever. The security guard told us to park where the park was across the street. So we thought we were lucky to find one parking space. We were only in the castle for an hour. When we got back to our car we noticed a pink sheet on the window. Every single car had it. Thought it was a flyer. Turns out that every single car got a ticket. There wasnt any indication of "no parking" or "limited parking" so we dont even know what the ticket was for as it was written in Greek. Overall, our trip to Rodos was very nice. Our next destination was Santorini and then on to Athens.
perfect hotel

Me and my boyfriend were booking a late deal, and after searching the web we found the Ziakis Hotel, Pefkos, and after reading the reviews on this site and Trip Advisor I knew I wanted to stay there. We ended up finding a fab deal with Thompsons. We arrived at 6am, and after a little trouble booking in with the owner (english not excellent), we got to our room. We had been allocated a studio appartment for 4 people, so it was fantastic to have a dressing room as well as a sleeping room! We had room number 210. The room/s were lovely, this has to be the cleanest hotel I have stayed in! The views were amazing and very romantic. The walks to and from the town were steep but we are both sporty so it proved no trouble for us, we did take a taxi back on 2 nights (after a little to much vino and cocktails), but this only cost 4 euros. I would advise taking a torch if you plan to take the route turning right out of the hotel at night, though we just used the light on my mobile phone. The staff were extremely helpfull during our stay, and the maids are great, everyday they came in and cleaned. The pool is just lovely, its got fab views and the bar is reasonably priced, the english breakfast isnt the best but was fine to treat a little hangover. We would recommend Nicholas' restaurant near the hotel, and The Eleni, the owner Theo is very friendly and on one night gave us a lift back up to the hotel! Another restaurant was which was my favourite was the Nostalgia in Pekos town. Opposite this place in a very laid back bar (cannot remember what it is called), with its large leather couches and lounge chairs, makes it the ideal place to watch the football in a relaxed environment. We did a trip to Rhodes town with Thompsons which inc travel, dinner, tour and boat trip. This was a lovely evening, just remember to take a sweater for the late evening and wear flat comfy shoes. The only thing I didnt like about Rhodes town was the shops, they try and push you into to buying things and the restaurants pester you to go in. Lindos is worth a visit, we got the bus (5mins walk from hotel) it cost 1 euro 40 each (single). It only takes 10mins to get there. It is much more relaxed than Rhodes town. If you can find it, as all the roads look the same, Sinatras is tucked away and is the most wonderfull and charismatic place to have breakfast. It is a small bar with a terrace, where breakfast is served, and the walls are full of Frank Sinatra memorabilia. Very enchanting. The beach is busy and sunbeds cost 4euro each for the day, I have paid more in other resorts so it wasnt too bad. The water is perfect, quite calm and still warm for September. This resort is definatly for couples, especially the hotel. Ideal for romance and relaxation. PERFECT! All in all, this was the most perfect holiday for the two of us.
great views of pefkos
from hanjoWales
these apartments are newly built and for Greece offer a very good standard. the room we stayed in was great, situated at the back of the complex meaning stunning sea views and indeed great views across the whole of Pefkos itself. there was a shower, bath, and even a hairdryer provided with the traditoinal 2cooker rings over a fridage for cooking. the hotel is situated on a hill which is not for the faint hearted and did mean several taxi journeys to go back home at night as it was Very steep indeed,. its not suitable for the unfit or elderly. you have to weigh it up though as once you're up there the views are great. a lovely swimming pool and poolside facilites also are on offer. perhaps the customer service of staff though wasnt great/frienldy. all the rooms are cleaned twice weekly.
great time

we chose this accomodation to stay when we got married last month. we both can not fault the hotel at all. the staff are fantastic. Costa will try and get you to try the new coktails he's concocting at the bar (lol), if not entertain you with his card tricks - ask him about them - if he says he has no cards just tell him that lynsey and ant left him them after the wedding he'll know what you are on about!!!!. the staff are fantastic ans their english is good - it's made us now going to learn greek so we can talk to them in their language. the hotel has just got in internet access which you pay as you go - situated in the bar. if walking into town take a bottle of water - take a left out of hotel and look for writing on road about half way down - its cuts off such a long bit of a walk. i reccomend you eat in nostalgia for fantastic food - its out of this world - try the greek beer mythos its widley available and cheap too. on average we were eating out with drinks for less that 30 euros per night. if peckish thru the day mike makes fab omlettes in the pool bar tho be aware that he works on his own so can take a while to get fed when its busy. overall fantastic hotel, staff and time highly reccomended
Great place to stay

Just got back from a Week's holiday in Pefkos and stayed at the Ziakis Hotel. We found it to be everything you would expect from a self catering holiday. Mika and her staff are very friendly and hardworking - nothing was too much trouble and they are happy to go out of their way to help. They provide a snack menu at very reasonable prices if you feel a bit peckish and you can also get your bottled water at reception - 2.5 euros for 6 big bottles ! Usually we'd end up in the Hotel bar after a night out just for a 'last one' before going to bed. However, once you get talking to the barman, Kosta who loves to chat with the guests about anything and everything, tells jokes, encourages you to try various shots of things like ouzo, mettaxa and stuff I'd never heard of you'll be lucky if you stick at one - understand he's not being pushy - it's complimentary ! 'Course you still gotta pay for your regular booze ! It makes for a nice relaxed atmosphere to chat to and get to know your fellow guests while getting pleasantly inebriated - well why not ? You are on holiday... The rooms at the Ziakis are spacious with stunning views from the balcony. They're modern and clean - the maids make the beds and change the towels daily (except sunday). There's a fridge and basic cooking facilities (the usual 2 hot rings), utensils and a jug kettle so you can make a brew ! I did miss being able to make a bit of toast, though with imported bread (kingsmill) priced at 6 euros at the supermarket maybe it's not such a problem ! Air con is available ( at 55 euros for the week ) and if it's as hot as when we stayed you'll need it ! Temp reached 42 C on one day - however we were told that this was unusual for the time of year ( early june ) - the week before it had been a pleasant 25 to 28 C. There is a good size pool area with plenty of sunbeds to go round although some people still persisted in that annoying habit of 'reserving' their favourite by placing towels on them - really gets up my sniffer ! and I suspect they were Brits - shame... The location of the Ziakis is a good 15 to 20 mins steady walk to the center of Pefkos and involves negotiating a steep hill which may be daunting for some. There is a short cut down a rocky slope ( look for the writing on the road ) which cuts a fair bit off but not suitable if you're a bit dodgy on your pins... Personally I was ok going down either way - coming back ? Well put it this way, I did it once then hired a car the next day ! In fact car hire in pefkos is reasonably cheap. We found 2 places - Lindos car hire and Marathon ( easy to locate on the main drag..). For cheap and cheerful try Lindos - you can get something like a little Honda or Deawoo with aircon for 60 euros for three days and if you're not too fussy no aircon for 45 euros. For something a bit more upmarket like an open top sporty mini go to Marathon but that'll cost you 180 euros for 3 days. The prices all include full insurance etc - the only extra is petrol. You get a full tank and are expected to return it full - what I liked is the fact that when we returned ours that the hirers don't even bother to check - just hand back the keys, shake hands and you're done. Anyway if you don't fancy the walk back up 'cardiac hill' you can get a taxi for 4 euros. The village of Pefkos is lovely. Plenty of bars and tavernas to choose from - everything from traditional greek cuisine to chinese/indian. Our favourite was The Delizia but of course we never had time to try them all. Once again the friendly atmosphere prevails - none of this 'come and look a my menu' stuff - everyone will say hello but not be 'in your face'. Don't expect lively - it's a resort more suited for couples or people with young children - the main beach is beautiful and if you've a mind to explore there are a couple of tiny beaches that you can (with luck) get excusively to yourself (talk to Kosta!). There are a few music and karaoke bars and even a nightclub but generally it's pretty laid back - all the teenagers are in Kalariki. For a bit more variety Lindos is a ten minute drive or taxi ride away and well worth a visit.. So there it is - hope you found it useful and if we were asked the question -' would you stay at the Ziakis again ?' Yes - yes we would.............. The flight time from Gatwick to Rhodes is about 4 hours. Oh yeah - I nearly forgot. We never saw one flippin' mosquito !
Nice, quiet Hotel

This Hotel is lovely and clean and fairly new. Staff were very friendly. The location of the hotel is up quite a step hill so not ideal if you have small children who dont like walking, however a taxi is between 4 -5 euros down to the main strip of Resturants and Bars. Rooms were cleaned daily and you are provided with pots, pans, cutlery, glasses and ups. You will need you own washing up liquid tho.

Stayed at the Ziakis for a week. We booked last minute, with accomodation allocated on arrival, a bit risky I know, but we had been told it would not be falaraki, and that we would have a pool and a balcony. The ziakis was perfect and suited us well. Our studio was very clean and adequately equipped. The pool area was impressive and never crowded, there was a bar in the main building, and a small range of simple food available. The mangement were always available to help if needed, but were also happpy to leave you alone too. The cleaning staff were exceptional, polite, cheerful, helpful and they worked very hard, particularly Augustine who looked after us very well. Pefkos is a lovely village. We can recommend Tsamikos Taverna above the village bakery. Try and hire a car, Marathon car hire were very helpful and explore this wonderful Island. There is so much more to it than meets the eye. We Would definately stay at the Ziakis again, but it is no good if you enjoy Karaoke and clubbbing!!!! I guess that's what made it perfect.
Stayed at Pefkos for a week. The resort was beautiful as we hired a car to get round the island and ventured out different beaches we fell in love with the Gennadi beach- a small pebbly quiet beach with a taverna that serves food and drinks. We had cooked breakfast by the... more
