Feb 2008, Miss A HESLOP

Hi
there was five of us aged 18 to 23 looking for a really good lively place to stay and got advised to go to Argyri, it was everything we were expecting quite basic but lively and was great getting to know people round the pool and sunbaving, we met loads of really nice people there who we went out with all the time, hi jamie, graham, choco if your reading. it was geat, people say it was a bit dirty reading other reviews but we thought it was fine, and we are picky. we really wish we could go next year but not sure yet saving now.
in all the holiday was brilliant, night life was fantastic and everyone was really friendly, ideal for our age group we went in july which seemed to be the best time to go. the argyri is right next to bar street its ideal too,

Kardamena was good as a place, but...

Kardamena was good as a place, but the Argyri aparthotels were dirty with poor customer services. Our bathroom light was broken on arrival, we reported it straight away and it was not fixed for another 3 nights! Our feet would get black walking from the door to the balcony, we had to find a mop and do it ourselves as the cleaners obviously didn't have a clue how to!

Found the Argyri pretty basic, like...

Found the Argyri pretty basic, like other reviewers said it could have been a lot cleaner. Bed and breakfast was a waste of money; don't bother, unless you'd be happy with 2 slices of toast and a cold hard boiled egg. Anything else off the breakfast menu was extra. Staff were friendly enough, location is good - beach two minutes walk away and a few very close by restaurants. Bar street far enough away for noise, but also close enough to get to.
Kardemena is a nice resort, starting to get quiet at the end of September which suited us, but plenty places to eat and drink, and the whole place had a nice atmosphere. Would recommend hiring a quad to see a bit more of the island, the roads are fairly quiet. Three bay boat trip was really worth doing. Check out the prices for excursions from the shop down at the bridge - they charge about half the amount our rep did for the same trips.
Wouldn't be my choice for the height of season (I'm 35) but we had really nice weather in late September and really enjoyed our week.

The apartment was not as advertised...

The apartment was not as advertised on the web. There were no kitchen facilities at all. The bed linen and towels were well past their sell by date and the sheets weren’t changed for the seven nights that we were there. The room was also dirty (my husband found a piece of glass on the floor of the room), I had to buy bleach and a scourer from the local supermarket before I would let any of us use the bathroom. My son is 15 and had to sleep on a chair bed that was far too small. From about 4.30 to 6.30am every morning there is more activity than there is all day-you certainly won’t get much sleep there!
I went to the visit meeting to complain to our rep but was told that B&B rooms didn’t have any of the kitchen facilities even though that wasn’t indicated on the Thomas Cook website. He was no help at all.
I love Kos and this is my second visit to the island, I would go again but I certainly wouldn’t stay at the Arygyri Hotel!

6 of us went to Kardamena this year...

6 of us went to Kardamena this year and stayed in the Argyri. Its in a perfect location - beach and loads of bars and restaurants all within stumbling distance. However, most of the other hotels are on the other side of Bar Street so you don't get the noise of people coming back in the early hours! Practically no noise during the day.
The hotels itself has a nice pool and the PRs using the pool in the day make meeting people and hearing about places easier! Nice clean pool but the only downside is that you have to pay for sunbeds as the pool is public (only 2 Euros each but all adds up!)
The rooms themselves weren't exactly the Ritz - dodgy showers and bins not changed/rooms not cleaned every day (which is definitely not nice when you cant flush the toilet paper in Greece!!!) The breakfast part of our "bed and breakfast" was no where in sight! Having to pay for air conditioning (which is a necessity in some of the rooms) was a downside as well.
Saying that, I would definitely recommend Argyri to younger people looking for a lively holiday but don't really care where they're staying! We'd still go back there!! However, I wouldn't recommend it to families though because rooms are very basic and its not exactly a family-friendly area with the amount of bars around!
Hope that's of some help
ps don't forget to check out Brothers bar - first bar on the strip - spent many a night there!!! friendliest/loveliest staff ever especially the PRs, who i'm sure you'll get to know!

The only good thing about this hotel...
4 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss F Flanagan

The only good thing about this hotel was its location - a short stroll away from Bar Street. The hotel itself looks lovely on arrival but the rooms were awful. Doors that wouldn't shut, windows that were falling off and a balcony with loose wood.
Two euros to sit by your hotel pool is awful, whether it is an open pool or not there should be some sort of system whereby hotel guests should be excused. The noise of a night was excessive, I went with 5 other 21 year olds and even we were annoyed at not being able to get any sleep due to doors slamming! The restaurant owner was plain odd, and the only free breakfast you could get was toast and a boiled egg!
In general the hotel was poor and needs great investment, and the prices in Kos in general were extremely expensive. Do not go expecting drinks offers etc. simply do not have them. Kos is a beautiful chilled out resort, but take a lot of money!

This is a hotel of reasonable standard, but the site has many faults.
If you are of the 18-30 type and don't really care, then this is fine. It’s close to town where you can drink yourself silly.
To my mind, the place has major faults which detract from what could be a great holiday.
1. The pool area is unsafe.
2. The cost of using the sunbeds (pool) is unwelcome.
3. The prices of drink round the pool is twice those charged anywhere else.
4. I was allocated a bed-settee for my son (booked as an adult) who is 5'9" whilst the settee is only 4'. So we shared the 2 beds amongst the 3 of us.
5. There is excessive noise from other guests during the night and the noise from traffic is constant all day.
6. The rooms, linen and towels are now aging and past their best.
7. The staff are only friendly when you spend a lot of money with them.

We arrived at the Argyri Aparthotel...

Sep 2006, Crystalgirl

We arrived at the Argyri Aparthotel on 10th May 2006. Four ladies from 38 to 44.
We stayed in the Self Catering Apartments, just a short walk away from the Hotel block, but the apartments were spacious, clean and in a fantastic location.
Everyone in the main block was so friendly, I would recommend early and late year for families and people who are a bit older. I know it get really busy and lively in between those months.
I am going back as soon as I can afford it again, probably next May 2007. Kardamena is fab, great food, great bars, and great sound proof nightclubs too, but getting a tad too old for that now.
Go there and try it, you will get hooked. Ask Dimitri for a full fruit cocktail, made ALL from freshly squeezed fruits. Yummy.
Hope you have a fab time.

Jul 2006, Mrs P Warren

I had a fantastic time out here I went with 7 others of all ages and inclinations and everyone of us loved the Argyri! Its a 5 minute stroll from bar street, where you'll find loads fantastic bars including the Kings Arms (look out for Deano and Stu there they will ensure you a fantastic night!) and Metro Bar which is a karaoke bar indoors so the music carries on after midnight and the atmosphere is fantastic!
The hotel itself has a pool bar and restaurant both good and reasonably priced. Tasty Corner in bar street is another good place to eat, they even sell "pukka pies"! The sun loungers are 2 euros each per day which I don't think is unreasonable especially as it a public pool not just residents only.
All in all I plan to back to Kos next year and the only change I will make to the holiday is to go for 2 weeks this time, not one!

I went to the Argyri on 21st June...

Jul 2006, Miss JM Lidster

I went to the Argyri on 21st June 2006 with 5 friends! The apartments are very clean and overlook the pool which is of a good size!

The staff at reception and the bar were very friendly, as was the Thomas Cook rep James! The bar crawl is worth going on early on in the holiday!

The location of the apartments is perfect! Next to the beach and right near the bars! Music goes off in the bars at 12am, and the clubs are sound proof so there is no noise if you decide to go to bed!

Be aware that there is a charge of 2euros per day for the sun beds around the pool, and that the air conditioning is 6 euros per day per apartment. I took my own fan with me which we used instead of the air conditioning and it was very pleasant!

It may also be worth packing a few toilet rolls as they only provide you with one toilet roll per apartment for the duration of your holiday as they expect you to buy your own! However, if you ask the maids nicely enough they will give you some more!

Over all, I would recommend these apartments to anyone wanting a lively holiday who want to stay in a clean well looked after property!

Wasn’t quite sure what to expect...

Jun 2005, Miss A Neville

Wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I went to the Argyri but I was pleasantly surpassed. It was a great place, loved everything about it. All the staff are really helpful. The food is lovely too. Rooms were really clean. Pool was fab, only thing was that you have to pay 2 euros a day for your sunbeds. The pool is a public one called Obsession and a lot of the PRs are there in the day. Its 50 metres from the beach, you’ll get a sea view from the front. Bar Street is literally a minute’s walk away but far enough away to get peace and quite. I loved everything about this holiday! Dying to go back!
