Great hotel, great location
from monsta_mo
Don't let the comments about the surrounding area put you off. These just display an ignorance of what old Barcelona is all about. The Hotel is at the end of a neighbourhood street - 90% of the streets in the gothic quarter could be described as 'alleyways'. During the morning and evening this is a friendly bustling area with an inexplicable amount of patiesseries(no bad thing!). The bohemian Born district is only 5 minutes walk away where there are loads of trendy shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants and if you feel the need to get ripped...

Excellent - but a courtyard room is a MUST!
from Flip351
OK, I'll start with the one & only negative. Having read reviews of this hotel we requested, via expedia, an internal room (overlooking a courtyard). Unfortunately we didn't get one, we arrived at 10.00pm so were only thinking of getting a good nights sleep & waking refreshed ready to explore Barcelona. Our room was on the first floor overlooking an alleyway (room 108), the combination of the position & being one floor above the street meant that we heard everything that was going on & I mean everything. The worst came at about 1.30-2.00am...

Awesome experience!
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just came back from staying at the Catalonia Princesa for 5 days/4 nights. I traveled here with my mother and Barcelona was our last stop after touring the entire country of Spain for 10 days. After staying at various hotels in Granada, Madrid, Costa del Sol, and Seville, I would have to say that this was my favorite hotel. When our taxi driver dropped us off, I was a bit hesitant about the location since it was in a very narrow one-way road that seemed to be in the middle of a neighborhood and not in a bustling touristy area like Las...

Nice room and bathroom but very noisy
from L_HHarmon
Stayed here for 3 nights. Room and bathroom were very nice and staff were very helpful. We stayed in the back of the hotel and it was so loud at night it was almost impossible to sleep. In fact, Saturday night people were out fighting at 4:30am for over an hour. Area was a little dodgey as well. Would not recommend and would not stay here again. Saw many nicer hotels in more pleasant surroundings.
Very Clean and modern
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed 5 nts. My wife was not overly impressed with the street, narrow and darkish with graffiti, but it was generally busy which made it safe, although a single lady resident did have her bag snatched nearby one mid-morning. Couples, families and groups would have no problem, nor would single ladies if they hid their bag! HOWEVER it is an excellent, modern, very clean hotel inside. We had a large room, with TV, minibar, chair and settee plus a huge bathroom with bath/shower and separate large shower cubicle with powerful shower. Verandah...

5 day city break
from Lintel
We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights, we arrived at night which appeared a little daunting as the area looked very run down. We found the inside of the hotel very modern, clean and well presented. The staff, over the 5 days were very helpful, our room was a good size with an excellent bathroom and this was kept clean on a daily basis. There was a good choice for breakfast with plenty of variety and those freshly baked pastries (I am still paying the cost of the extra pounds I put on). Once out of the hotel and on turning right we found we...

Very pleasant experience
from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed four nights at the Catalonia Princesa, chosen after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. I was not disappointed. The price was good, and the location was great. I could walk to many of the places I wanted to see in the Barri Gotic or Gracia areas and could reach others from the nearby Metro. The front desk staff was very helpful in giving directions. The breakfast buffet was very good, and the dinners in the hotel were good too and reasonably priced. As a retired woman traveling alone, it was nice to be able to eat in the...

Small Catalonia Princesa Good Location to Explore Barca
from Deb_Mich
My husband and I ended up at the Catalonia Princesa after disembarking from our cruise ship last fall. The hotel is in the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) and is very well located. Don't let the neighborhood scare you -- it is a bit tattered but the hotel is small, clean, very tidy and well-managed. We walked everywhere, even at night and never felt unsafe. We requested a room away from the steet so we were on an upper floor (they had a well-kept elevator for schlepping luggage to our room) a bell cap and a restaurant on the first floor....

Catalonia Princesa Hotel, Barcelona.
from Ulysses
You could safely book this hotel. Our room was smart overlooking a small court with a huge bathroom. The breakfasts were lovely, buffet style with a wide range of choice including hot dishes. The staff were very helpful and efficient with directions, booking taxis etc. The hotel itself is central but not actually very close to the main attractions. Expect to walk for quarter of an hour or so to cathedrals, restaurants etc.
Value for money
from shunky
Just back from a three night city break to Barcelona staying at The Catalonia Princesa Hotel. The Hotel is exactly as described by previous people....the street that it is on is run down but the hotel is clean and staff helpful, though not as friendly as they could be. Some very dodgey looking people around in the streets immediately around hotel. We stuck to the main roads during darkness but used the side streets during the day. Room was clean and tidy but we were at the back of the hotel, we forgot to ask for a room at the front!...
