Inter Continental Centenario Santo Domingo

My husband and I traveled to Santo Domingo for 5 days for a romantic getaway. Upon our departure the airlines were having difficulties and had to cancel some flights our flight was one that got cancelled. We were put up in the Embassy Suites for a night and rebooked on another flight for the following day. That flight too got cancelled which caused us to be put up in the hotel again by the airlines. This is not up to the quality I would expect from Intercontinental. It is in need of an update. The tub and shower both ran whenever the water was turned on. It was noisy and had prostititues propositioning customers on hotel property. It was also carrying pirate signals on their TV's. DR is Latin America, yet they carried ABC, CBS, and NBC. I stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental January 27-30, 2008. I've stayed at Intercontinental Hotels before and perhaps that is why I expected a lot from this property. While it was not a five-star experience, by any stretch of the imagination, it was not a bad place to stay. My check-in and check-out were slow. Just came back from a short trip to the DR and stayed here for several nights. The room we stayed in was dank and needed to be renovated. The service at the hotel was below average too. Consider other hotels.

We stayed at the Intercontinental /Santo Domingo . We checked in on Xmas Eve ,and the staff were very friendly and helpful ,and the checking in went smoothly and quickly. The room was clean and well equipped. Food in the hotel is good but very expensive . The hotel is on the sea front , so you can enjoy the sea view from your room or the lobby . We came to the Intercontinental through our travel agency. We've stayed at the Intercontinental chain before, and (compared to other hotels in the chain) would rate this hotel with 4*, rather than 5. The staff is nice and friendly..The check-in went smooth although not all the electricity sockets worked in our room and the safe also was out of order..When we asked to take another room, we were given a much nicer one... The hotel was ok, but after I checked in we went around the corner to get some food, as soon as I was at the corner, a moped came speeding down and he snatched my handbag, it was a terryfing experience, they were cameras oustide the casino and they said it didnt work, Santo Domingo is very dangerous, you cannot wear anything expensive and do not carry a handbag, wear cheap clothing, no jewelry and expensive glasses, watches etc, it is very dangerous, I was lucky enough that I didnt end of in hospital or worse, so please be careful, leave all... more

We were forced to stay in the hotel because of a flight cancellation. My daughter purchased something in the gift shop, and, after returning home, discovered that her card had been used in Guatamala! The hotel is fine, but don't leave it and venture out!

I stayed at the hotel and was charged $20.00 for a water from the mini bar. I never used the mini bar. I tried to contact the hotel by sereval emails but, no one responds. I travel to Santo Domingo often and I will never stay at the Hotel V Centenario InterContinental again. It'a a shame a hotel has to nikel and dime it's guest to make a profit.

We stopped at this hotel for one night on our way to Punta Cana and were pleasantly surprised. It is very nice with marble floor and tastefully decorated, and we were told by the concierge that all rooms have a view of the boulevard and the ocean. We only had breakfast there and it was included and very good with both international and local foods. The staff was friendly and the casino was OK.
