Villas Paraiso del Mar is situated right on the beach o Holbox Island, Mexico and is in walking distance of the dock where the boat from the mainland dropped us off. Admittedly, I had a question about what we were getting into when we were dropped off because there were no cabs or signs of help waiting for our group of 25 divers. However, no worries.
The lobby is situated in a very large and attractively built and appointed stucco and palm-thatched roof building. There are concrete walkways to the outdoor pool and huge main dining room and bar. The rooms are such that there are duplex buildings with thatch roofs in a beautifully landscaped area with short walkways connecting to a central larger walkway which leads either to the dining room or the sun bathing area adjoining the beach. Our room was nicely furnished in every way and had its own AC, TV (some channels with English speaking movies/Spanish sub-titles, CNN) and the management were very accommodating for extra towels that we needed.
They also let us check out later than 11 am because out boat didn't get back until 12 noon and we wanted to take a shower before we headed back to Cancun that afternoon. By the way, we had the time of our lives swimming with the whale sharks. That's a whole different subject. We had dinner "downtown". We walked to the village and ate at an upstairs Mexican restaurant. The mosquitoes almost ate us alive. Off! Did not work. The insect repellant that they sell locally worked well. The meal was not expensive and was tasty.
I would whole heartedly recommend this location. We did not explore the whole island because we were only interested in the whale shark experience.
