Sani Beach Hotel Reviews
" A disappointing two weeks "
Submitted By: Michelle PThe Sani Resort is stunning but if you're a couple looking for a relaxing, peaceful holiday, I would highly recommend you stay in one of the villas or don't go there at all. My boyfriend and I are both 30 and we enjoy a lie-in (not a lot to ask on holiday). Every single morning we were woken between 7.30 and 8am by loud early risers and people with children, who happily let them race up and down the marble-floored corridors and scream their heads off. The cleaners also start their rounds at 8.30am and think nothing of shouting "Good morning!" down the corridor at the top of their voices. It didn't seem to occur to them that people might want to sleep in. We had to buy ear plugs in the end but this didn't block out the noise of the people in the room above us who seemed to move their furniture around every five minutes, one night at midnight.
Having read all the above reviews, I am also surprised to hear that sunbeds which had been 'reserved' before 9am were cleared. We didn't see this happening and only twice in 14 days did we manage to sit right by the pool when we happened to see someone leave. Otherwise, all the good sunbeds were all taken by 9am (on the beach as well) and sometimes you wouldn't see the people responsible for hours.
The dine around programme isn't as great as it sounds. Apart from the Veranda and the Poseidon restaurants inside the hotel, there are three other places you can eat. The Greek restaurant isn't great and although Macaroni and Tomata (both Italian-ish) are very nice, their set menus tend to have two choices and they don't change them from one week to the next so you may end up eating the same thing if you don't want to pay extra. (Pizzas on the normal menu start at 12 Euros).
Drinks are stupidly expensive. Cocktails are 8 Euros (£8ish), which is bordering on acceptable, but a gin and tonic will set you back £7, milkshakes £4 and soft drinks often more than £3. Unless you want to spend a small fortune, you won't be getting drunk in the bars. As someone who works in London I can safely say drinks were a rip-off. We saved ourselves a small fortune by getting some wine from the supermarket on a few nights and drinking it in our room!
Lastly, when we checked out we wondered why our bill was so high. After examining all the receipts, we discovered that another guest had been giving our room number (in error we hope) and these had been added on. There were also receipts with no signature which for some reason had been allocated to us.
Not a great note to end on but on the plus side (yes, there were some!) the staff are super friendly and helpful and the beaches are glorious. But if you want a chilled out, quiet time and you don't have kids, I wouldn't recommend going here.

Submitted By: devansAs for sunbeds, you have to be up very early to get one poolside and then you need to stay on the bed until 9am because otherwise if it's vacant the pool staff remove your towel and someone else can use it. This is a very good idea and they should continue to do this throughout the day should the bed be empty for more than an hour!
Entertainment isn't great but the staff do work hard.
Generally a lovely place to visit, didn't find it too expensive but won't be returning until children are over twelve.

Submitted By: Eva30We booked a sea view junior suite. The room was a very good size and well equipped. From what we saw of the standard rooms, they are far too small for more than two people. The girls’ beds were not of an adequate standard and very uncomfortable.
The service provided by house keeping was excellent. There was no shortage of fresh towels and staff replaced them morning and evening.
The staff overall were very friendly, efficient and helpful, the exception being the pool staff. The only way to describe their behaviour towards children was boardering on bullying. I appreciate that they have to prevent more rowdy behaviour, but I watched several children being bellowed at for just laughing too loud!
The food was excellent with plenty of choice and theme nights. The restaurant staff were outstanding. Although we were there at the busiest time, we never had to wait for a table and didn’t feel rushed.
Whilst the hotel is of a very high standard overall and the location is fantastic, I wouldn’t recommend it for families. The girls really enjoyed themselves, but were excluded from the nicer restaurants and trips and were viewed with suspicion by some staff if they ventured out around the hotel without us.

Submitted By: Mrs Melanie Wrightif you like nothing to do but relax with the kids on the moist gorgeous beaches ever, then this is the perfect place in the world.
Infact this weekend was our first anniversary, unfortunatley we couldnt afford to go back to celebrate it, but weve booked to go back in may 2009, and so have friends that came out for our wedding 2.
staff are the best, theyll do anything to ensure your stay is the best, the hotels are all clean and furnished lovely, and the choice of food is ecceptional!! the dine around is also a great idea as you get to experience other restaurnats and bars.
very nice place, we look forward to returning in may 2009 and for other years after!!

Submitted By: Mrs A BradleyMy husband, Son (12yrs), Daughter (9yrs) and me stayed for one week in a jnr suite with sea view. Kids had a single bed each and we had a double. The room was excellent with beautiful views from the balcony and fantastic air conditioning. The food was superb and offered a fantastic choice - there was always something for everyone. They offer a 'dine around option' but we felt the food was good enough in our hotel so didn't bother with this.
The hotel is immaculate and the staff are so friendly and willing to do anything to help out. They even took our bags of the coach on arrival, booked us in and took our bags to the room while we sat on the terrace and drank bubbly!
The pool area is excellent - but people do fight for the limited sunbeds. The hotel has a policy of not allowing beds to be reserved and every morning all the beds were reserved by 8am. The hotel then sent their staff out to remove all the towels etc off the reserved beds and make them available. It was funny to watch the faces of the people who had got up extra early to place various items of clothiing and towels accross 8 beds then go for breakfast only to return and find that all their property had been removed and folded by hotel staff and their beds were being used by others!!
We went on holiday to chill and getting involved in sunbed bingo was not our idea of fun so we opted for the beautiful beach at the side of the hotel and never had a problem getting beds, even when we got there after 11am.
There is a fantastic bar on this beach which plays lovely music all afternoon as they deliver your drinks to your unreserved sunbed! Bliss!
The evening entertainment was of a good standard even though we didn't really try and watch it - it was more enjoyable to sit at the pool side bar and talk to some of the lovely people we met on this holiday.
Our children had the best time ever - we hardly saw them. They made friends immediately and the area was safe enough for them to go off with their buddies and return when they needed something!!
I cannot fault this hotel, the staff, the food or the location - we are already looking to book again for next year!
A holiday is what you make it - if you look for fault - you may find it but we didn't look and all was just perfect!

Submitted By: Mr G AndersonNegative points first as I need to get this off my chest!
We booked a "double room with cot space" for myself, my wife, 12 year daughter & 1 year old son. The room was a total joke - virtually no space between the beds/cot/dressing table - we ended up walking over the double bed half the time to avoid each other!!! My daughters bed was a steel framed camp bed with a mattress so thin it wouldn't have been passed fit for purpose in a prison... After complaining at reception a much thicker mattress was provided - why couldn't they have put this out to start with?? Also the wardrobe space was totally inadequate for a party of four. In essence this room should never have been sold as suitable for 2 adults+1 child+1 infant because it is anything but. The double room is only suitable for 2 adults or 2 adults + 1 child at a push. The cot inclusion is just a step too far. Another minor problem was that the air con grill in the ceiling dripped water/condensation over the floor creating a slip hazard on the marble floor. However this was fixed (twice) straight away by the maintenance guys.
The resort operates an exclusion system on the beaches - if you haven't stumped up enough cash for your accomodation you're not allowed on certain parts of the beach - the San Asterias Suites have their own area of (very nice) beach, the junior suites also have their area on the beach which is roped off from the general access area, although this area is no different from the general access area in terms of qualilty of beach front, its just that you have to walk past it to reach the non-exclusion areas. You won't find this detailed in the brochure.....
Drinks are very expensive. Buy soft drinks from the shop within the hotel rather than order them over the bar - they are nearly 3 times the cost otherwise.
We had booked a late check-out. The night before we were due to leave we got a note pushed under our door saying that we couldn't use our room for the late check-out and would have to pack-up and move to another room in the morning. Kind-of defeats the object of a late check-out really..... The room they moved us to was described as having a garden view. The garden consisted of a gravelled area outside the balcony with a 3m high wall bordering it with some trees in a a few pots at the base of the wall, along with a nice view of the ducting pipes and escape staircase. I assumed this was a room they didn't use other than for late check outs as the "view" was so bad, but when I stepped out onto the gravel it was apparent that rooms either side were in occupation, all benefiting from this splendid view.....
The pool is nice, although unless you want to sit on a sunbed from 7.30am onwards you won't be able to use one as alot of sunbed bagging goes on. Similarly for the sun beds on the beach front. However this is typical wherever you go now....
They don't allow children to use the indoor pool after 2.00pm
Positive points:
When we arrived we were told we had been given an upgrade to a room with a sea view, and the view was superb.
Once out of your room it is obviously a 4 star resort, and quite impressive. Chamapgne reception on arrival, the buffet food is excellent with a great choice, and the staff are fantastic - they couldn't be more polite or helpful.
The resort suroundings and grounds are very nice and well kept.
In summary Sani Beach Hotel can offer you a great stay and experience. However if you are a family comprising 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant steer well clear of the "double room with cot space" and book a junior suite or family room instead.

Submitted By: Miss K StirkWe booked full board as the way the dine around experience was explained sounded brilliant. But it is not as it seems. The buffet restaurant in the hotel and the beach club are fantastic you can not fault them, but the dine around experience is very disappointing. We tried two restaurants on the dine around the Greek style restaurant we had the set menu and the food and portions were very disappointing, especially as the table next to us had ordered from the normal menu and one of there portions was the same size as our two put together. We then tried the Italian restaurant and decided to chose our own from the menu. The food was lovely but for 2 pizzas, 1 beer and 1 glass of wine cost 50 Euros which seems very high to me.
The drinks were expensive on the resort but not stupid. I would say they are the same as drinks in the city.
I would recommend this resort to any one who don't want to travel far when they get there, everything you can possible think for in walking distance. But i think if i was to go back i would choose the Sani Beach Club as it is all inclusive and seems smaller.

Submitted By: Mr G EvansWe booked directly with Travel republic and the holiday for the 2 of us for 21 days was
£ 4200 excluding flights and transfers.
On the plus side the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels whenever required. The downside and you really can’t appreciate this
until you are here, are the beaches. The beach directly opposite the hotel and the beach
to the right of the hotel are very narrow with sun beds almost touching. Not very nice if you are looking for some space! The pool area is very nice, but despite signs advising that 'booking sun beds' before 09:00 was forbidden it was almost impossible to get one after 08:00. The pool area itself is quite small, given the size of the complex and
tt suffered from the age old problem of people putting towels down and then disappearing for ages.
There is a beach which is cordoned off and is intended for the Sani Village and and San Marina residents; this is much quieter, with far more room between each sun bed. Alas any attempt to use these were met with a curt "I am sorry but you are not entitled to use these.."; an exchange of 14 euros rectified this but clearly a very expensive way to get on a decent beach.
Despite there being a marina, there were no mainstream boat trips organised apart from a free trip around the surrounding bay.
Worth noting that you are in effect on a very large complex so if you are not looking to drive (or can’t) then you are to some degree lumbered. The resort is very expensive. A standard coffee at the beach bar being 4 euros 10 cents! (And this for just a small plastic cup). A pint of local beer, again was 3 euros 80 cents. Out biggest gripe on costs though was water; 3 euros on the beach! And you even had to pay 2 euros 20 at dinner despite being half-board.
Is it for you? Well, if you want a relaxing location, are not too fussed about beach or pool and have the mobility to venture out and, you are not counting the pennies then yes, you will enjoy it. If however are looking for value for money, enjoy decent uncrowded beaches and are reluctant to pay over the odds then no, you would get much better value elsewhere.

Submitted By: Mrs T NewmanWe went during the busiest time, but the hotel still didn't feel over crowded.
We have two teenagers 16 and 14 and they loved it here. Plenty of youngsters their age, a fantastic pool, nightclub etc what more could they want - only trouble was they never wanted to come in at night!!!
The pool area is perfect, extremely clean, plenty of comfy sun beds, although you have to be up by 8am to get one, this didn't matter to us as we enjoyed the early morning sun. There are plenty of other sun beds dotted around the grass and beach, so whatever time you decide to get up you can still find somewhere to relax.
There are two beaches, one either side of the hotel, both are lovely with white sand and clear warm water, plenty of sun beds and umbrellas.
There is a pool bar and two lovely beach bars all serving food and great cocktails.
The drinks were a bit pricey, but this is an upmarket resort so it’s to be expected.
We didn't eat in the main restaurant as we were upgraded to a suite and where therefore able to eat in the Verranda restaurant which is a recent addition. Still buffet style, but much quieter and definitely more relaxing. We took full advantage of the dine around options and tried many of the restaurants, although there were still some we didn't have time to try. The best (but most expensive) was definitely the French restaurant at the Peurto Sani Village, one of the best meals we have had, but it was a good job we only found it on our last night as our pockets would have been a lot lighter had we eaten there more often!
The marina is beautiful, safe and peaceful, a perfect place for a meal and drink in the evening - the atmosphere is lovely.
The hotel offer two free cruises one in the morning with a swim and lunch included and the sunset cruise which lasts about 1/2 hour and includes live music, nibbles and champagne. Make sure you book when you arrive as spaces are limited and your reps don't mention it.
We all enjoyed ourselves so much we are going back next year.

Submitted By: Mrs A E AllenOur room had a sea view which was splendid. The service from all staff in the hotel was second to none. The Poseidon restaurant offered a good variety of food choices to suit all tastes.
Although the hotel was very busy, the restaurant had an excellent seating system in place at meal times. My husband and I waited no longer than five minutes to be seated.
The entertainment and facilities on offer were of a very good standard.
The room was comfortable, colour and decor being light, clean, and crisp.
All in all we had a lovely time. If a relaxing, slow-paced holiday is what you are searching for then this is the place for you. On the down side though, the prices of drinks in the hotel and within the Sani Resort are extremely expensive.
We went to Macaroni Trattoria in the Sani Resort Harbour and the price of a Margarita pizza was 16 Euros, which works out at around 11 pounds! For a large beer it was 3.80 Euros (around 2.50).
Don't expect to get drunk at this resort, unless of course you are loaded, if you do decide to try the Sani Resort take plenty of money with you, believe me, you will need it. We had a look around the Sani Beach Club whilst we were there and decided we had made the right choice booking the Sani Beach Hotel.
The maid service in the room was not really up to scratch for a four star hotel. All in all though a good holiday, hot weather, lovely place, shame about the prices!

Submitted By: Mrs M LewisWe had a double room, lovely furnishings, balcony, TV, and DVD player, bathroom with shower. All compact but very clean and fresh.
The hotel staff are outstanding. Every member of staff that we came into contact with were polite, friendly to to to to to to and very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.
The meals in the hotel were buffet style, always plenty of choice and no complaints about the food during our week’s holiday.
We ate out at The Marina a few times during our stay and again the food was great.
Beaches wonderful.
Couldn't fault The Sani Resort at all and will be going again.

The staff in the bars and restaurants has been very friendly but the food, mainly in the Poseidon Restaurant, was not very good at all. It was already cold and cooked with too much fat. The Veranda Restaurant was much better, and as only people being older than 12 years were allowed to eat there it was not as loud as in the Poseidon.
The room was cleaned and the towels changed each day. But I cannot recommend a double room to be used by 3 persons. It is to less space.
All in all, our holidays were really great (also thanks to the weather which was really sunny at all!). Maybe I will come back some day!!
