Just got back
from Martin23
We just got back from staying at the Venus we flew from East Midlands (Fridays only to and from this airport) and yes its owned by the airline but hey its a clean budget hotel. It was a nice week away for me and my sister and we did get a good last minute bargain. The all inclusive package was ok, food was edible and the area and night life was great. Two people did make the week alot more fun, a yummy mummy called Petra she was a great laugh and her son was very funny. and there was Nikki as 20 year old from Derby she has lovely plaits in her hair, a body to die for and smile to cheer the saddest person, oh how I wish i wasnt so shy, I would have loved to have got her phone number. In a nutshell, its a budget hotel, Malta bargains worked well, the airport transfers worked smoothly and we had no hitches at the airport. Just dont be taken in by the reps offers of cheap trips!! they are not!! go down the road 30 seconds walk away from hotel and you can save a fortune
ok for a cheap holiday
from A TripAdvisor Member
You pretty much get what you pay for with this cheap hotel, but the bathrooms are very poor. Our toilet leaked and I had to mop it up several times. It was easier to just do it myself, and I knew it was cleaned properly, dont see the point going on holiday and stressing about it. The bedroom was clean and tidy and had some new furniture which was nice. It had air con which made no difference, and a rather old ceiling fan which looked a bit suspect, but we used it as the room was like a furnace. The balcony was very small with old chairs. We did'nt use them. The pool was small and the water was a bit cloudy. There was grime on the inside of the pool which someone had written "help please clean me" After a complaint it was cleaned up quite quickly. There is not much room for sunbeds but the hotel was not really that busy when we were there, Im sure when it is busy you would have to be up at 6am with your towels to book a lounger! The food is very average. Breakfast was the usual bacon and eggs or cereal, nothing special. The fruit juice was just mildly coloured water and best avoided. The coffee was ok though. Evening meals again were nothing exciting, often very greasy with no healthy option. We had lunch at the Palm Court a few times instead of the evening meal and just ate out somewhere in Bugiba at night. The hotel does need a really good clean up, probably best knocked down and re built. Having said that it has a really good location close to the bus station and Bugiba centre, so its a great base for exploring Malta, which is what you should be doing after travelling all that way. Not staying in the hotel. I dont think its nearly as bad as some of the reviews I have read. Maybe we were lucky
3 stars - How ?
from A TripAdvisor Member
Who is responsible for giving this establishment 3 stars ??? This was a budget holiday booked through Bargain Holidays, we did read the reviews AFTER we booked this break, a lesson to learn alway look first and book later. We had already had our main holiday and was just looking for a bit of extra sun and it was only for a week, thankfully. The hotel was very basic and lacked basic hygiene. Just because its cheap doesn't mean it has to be filthy. The food was awful with the possibility some of it had been recycled, it was always soggy chips, fried everything and the kitchen which was located beside the pool was discusting. My advice to the hotel would be drop the food and tidy up the rooms putting a fridge in them, a tv that works and some air conditioning, and sell the package as self catering ! The swimming pool was filthy with a thick scum layer on the side, which someone had written "clean me". The room always had a stale smell, there was no air conditioning and the ceiling fan looked like it was about to come adrift. Fellow travellers take a towel with you as the hotels were all torn and stained, but on the up side the bed sheets were always clean and pressed. Some people had extra guests in their rooms, cockroaches, we were luck we did not see any in ours. As mentioned above it wasn't our main holiday it was cheap and along with a few other residents we did laugh at the experience but never again !
On what basis is thi judged a three star hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from Malta and were not impressed with the accommodation at all. We have visited many countries staying in a mixture of hotels ranging from 2 star - 5 star. Having read some of the reviews about this hotel after booking we were wary to the point that we said we were going on a camping holiday to Malta. The Hotel was manky throughout and needed a thorough clean, including a steam clean, fans were covered in dust, cobwebs under the beds, holes in the sheets & towels, a dysfunctional shower pressure of a dribble, a broken telly, the list can go on and to top it all woke up bitten... The surround of the swimming pool was dirty we didn't even consider using it. No point in raising hope of any improvement as when we did and looked at different rooms at the sister hotel Palm Court, they were not much better and the sea view seen was a mural overlooking a swimming pool. Also the repairs we asked for were only temporarily corrected as when used the same problem arose. Asking for assistance resulted in one of the receptionists behaving like Basil from Fawlty Towers. It would be easier for this hotel to become a themed one as such. Fortunately for us we had a sense of humour and shared it with other guests of whom none will return. I can endorse much of what is written in previous reviews, Malta is expensive with 2 prices one for the locals and the other the tourists. I had looked forward to seeing Malta and it truly is an island seeped in a wonderful history, sadfly from this experience we will not be returning to Malta.
Ok to sleep, but avoid the food !
from speedypete07
Be warned ! I am most certainly not any kind of snob, and I am used to staying at basic accomodation and paying low prices...But this hotel is an insult to anyones intelligence..just because the price may be low, there is absolutely no excuse for sheets and bedding with holes in them..and certainly no excuse for poorly prepared food..they must be laughing at us English mugs who pay hard earned money for what should have been up to standard accomodation and decent food. I chose on the 1st morning to have breakfast in the Venus restaurant, and to be fair the cooked breakfast was reasonable and edible, but beware the tea and coffee made with the local water because it tastes decidedly salty, probably because 60% of the islands water is sea water which has been desalinated.Watch also the floor in the Venus restaurant which is like a skating rink (wet and greasy)and that is no exageration..highly dangerous ! And now for the evening meal ! The ingredients probably started off as being ok ! but it is what they have done to them.If one was given some good food and told to do their best to mess it up,then this is where these hotels have succeeded big time ! the food starts off in their sister hotel accross the road hours before and is brought across to ther Venus to sit on some bubbling bain maries to boil and dry up..need I say more. On a positive note the staff are very pleasant, but remember not to let this hotel and the resort of Qawra and Bugibba put you off Malta as this is a beautiful island with some great places to visit, and the people are fantastic..I will return but not to the Venus. You have been warned !
definitely a malta bargain!

cheap as chips
from sibloo
i'll be brief...... Good points: - cheap as chips - £135.00 half board for the week - good flights, modern plane, no charge for in flight meal - clean bathroom, plenty of instant hot water - fairly central location with nothing too far away - clean bedlinen and towels in a good sized room - breakfast is ok and the food is hot Bad points: - the complex is dirty.......with a capital D, the rooms are clean but the hotel areas aren't - we saw two dead cockroaches on our way out one evening and told the staff to remove them when we got back five hours later - food is a lot better than we had expected it to be but perhaps not the high quality stuff you would buy for yourself but for the price we had no complaints. Some people we spoke to go there for five to seven weeks at a time year after year so that says something - pool area is't the best in the world My advice: Get away from it all for a cheap week away and you'll be fine. Lots of gorgeous restaurants to eat out in so use it as a self catering base and you'll have a great time. Car hire is cheap and nothing is more than an hours drive away. Malta has a lot of charm and definately worth exploring Put it this way.... we are a couple in our in our mid thirties and we had a lovely time. PS..... Feed the local stray cats they love a tin of tuna and a cuddle.......
venusapart hotel,super week
from terryo
my wife and myself have just returned from a week at the Venus aparthotel which we booked by phone after seeing it on the internet at short notice and then from what we had heard and read about this hotel we were wondering if we had picked the right choice, but we need`nt have worried it was brilliant. rooms were very clean and maid service everyday, all reception staff and cleaners etc were polite and very good.we found this hotel to be nice and quiet but if you wanted a bit more noise etc you can use the sister hotel next to it plus the surrounding bars.we will be returning to this hotel for sure.
Generally nice but disappointing food
from AndrewH2010
I stayed for a week in August with two friends. The hotel was basic but friendly. The room surpassed our expectations - very spacious, clean & comfortable. The only let-down was the rather poor food. We were staying half board and ate there a few times. It was edible, more or less, but I think their catering budget was rather tight! That fact that it was a 'cheap' hotel was no excuse - I've had low-budget but authentic catering in Spain which was excellent. By the way the pool was a bit small but you can go into the hotel opposite!
cheap and chearful

Stayed at the venusapartel in feb 2006 wan't expecting a palace we paid £95 half board flights incl and transfers the accomodation was basic but generally clean. Hotel rooms are a fair size beds a bit hard didnt like the brown water that come out the bath tap !! Evening reception staff very good and helpful the hotel off peak shares its restuarant with its sister hotel the palm court the palm court is no palace i didnt like the palm court restuarant it seemed dingy and had a strange smell at breakfast burnt toast and something else. Food is basic but edible plenty of places to eat out close by fortunatley the restaurant opened in the venus mid week far nicer and cosy. Overall i enjoyed malta and was not put off by the hotel which after all was only for sleeping in. Car hire is cheap and so are bus tickets. would return again for a cheap budget break if you are looking for 4 star these hotels certainley not and i was told by a local you need to put your watch back 25yrs when you get off the plane not 1 hr forward ...but tis has a certain charm compared to hectic busy britain! a charming place a guy i work with pointed out to me he pays more than we paid for our break for his 1 bedroom flat a week
Hey come on guys, u have all said it ur selves u get wot u pay 4.If u spent less time at reception moaning , u could spend more time sight seeing in Malta and realize that actually it is a beautiful and interesting country. My husband and I have been 2 Malta 6 times in the... more
