" Do not book this hotel or its sister... "
Submitted By: Mr P TredgettIf the water tankers pulling up at the side of the Palm Court (directly in front of the Venus) at any time between 6am and 7pm don’t keep you awake then the `Crazy Daisy` bar built into the ground floor of the Venus will. Doesn’t shut till 3am, so look forward to a max. 3hrs sleep.
Oh, and don’t bother complaining to Malta Bargains, they are not interested. Plenty more Brits on the plane! 3*? In their dreams. Or should that be nightmares!!!!
" The Venus hotel is basic - not quite... "
Submitted By: Miss K SheddenThe room overall looked clean but the bathroom stank. I appreciate you get what you pay for but at what cost is basic cleanliness and hygiene.
The toilet brush was brown and had not seen any bleach, the rubber bath mat was mouldy, the bathroom mat did not look like it had seen the inside of a washing machine, the ceiling fan blades had a caning and looked like they need bending back into shape, there was no shower bracket so you had to wash holding the shower hose and the lift stank of mould and damp, with the ceiling extract never seeing a duster.
The maids did visit everyday to change the towels and make the beds. I can't fault the receptionists, they were very friendly and helpful. We saw the rep once, very briefly and he didn't even explain whether you could drink the local water.
The food (Palm Court) was edible but nothing to write home about. The food temperature was poor. The corridor leading to the restaurant in the Palm Court smelt very strongly of mould and damp. I would not choose to stay at the Venus again.
However, on the plus side, Malta is a lovely island to visit, the locals are very friendly and helpful and the place is steeped in so much history. St Georges bay, St Julian’s Bay, Sliema, Valetta, Medina and Rabat to name a few are great places to visit. I would definitely go back to Malta.

Submitted By: L. NormanWe went out most days on the buses and especially liked Golden Bay, which was a suntrap when the north of the island was windy.
The hotel food was very varied with loads of choice, not cordon bleu but very adequate and lots of it.
We liked the hotel, the island and the people and would definitely go back again.

Submitted By: Mr P RowlandsMalta itself is great I would recommend Valletta and mdina both easily reached from the bus station. Also enjoyed Gozo though it's 'best to go on an organised tour so you can see all the sites.

Submitted By: Mrs R WalfordThe food was edible but nothing to get excited about. Some of the restaurant staff were a bit rude...no manners, but the reception staff were good fun. We would not choose to stay there again, but if your budget is small, we would not put anyone off going there either.

The first apartment we were given had no balcony and only one tiny window which was right next to a filthy kids splash pool. The receptionist was very surly but to be fair he did have a queue of people complaining about their filthy rooms. We were eventually given another apartment for the night ,only marginally better, this had a smashed up fan the door wouldn’t lock filthy bath torn curtains etc.

The rep Jeremy did move us next day but we had to pay £136.00 for the privilege of moving to a three star apartment which is what the Venus is supposed to be. Jeremy told me he wasn’t interested in my complaints he is only there to collect money for the company beware if you have any standards of cleanliness DONT stay at the VENUS.
Submitted By: Mrs J BanceNether less they were ok. When we arrived it looked clean and tidy and the room was nice. The only weird thing was the hot water came out brown until you ran it awhile The sheets and towels were clean and were changed everyday.
We were half board. The breakfast was fair, the sausage & bacon nice but cereal looked a bit different and the eggs tasted strange but all in all it was ok, you just had to eliminate what you didn’t like and then eat the rest.
Evening meal, well, I thought it was not too good but my husband didn’t mind it. It’s very basic but edible.
Basically you get what you pay for and we couldn’t afford much more. For the money it was fantastic and we travelled Malta alot on the local buses.
We highly recommend the Medditereaneo marine park. We went twice, Please make sure you take enough cash to have a pic with a Sea lion lol By the way the Venus tells you, you can use Palm Courts Pool. Well I wouldn’t bother it’s filthy and the sea view is a mural on the wall of the beach Joke it looked horrible.
I know it sounds like we hated the place but we didn’t. We would go back again but next time we would go self catering. Well worth the money

Submitted By: Mrs E SpeckWe arrived with no problems to be told that they would be putting us in an apartment for 2 nights before moving us to the hotel accommodation. They had recently done some work to the room, but you couldn’t tell what! They hadn’t cleaned up after, there was plaster dust all over the sides. The bed’s however were not dirty and quite comfy.
The second room although smaller was cleaner and no plaster dust in sight! Again the beds were comfy, the towels changed every day and the bath, toilet and sink were OK. Not dirty but not sparkling clean. The only thing they didn’t seem to do was sweep or clean the floor. We did not see one cockroach in any building only saw 2 the whole holiday.
We only ate breakfast on 2 mornings, and stuck to the toast, everything else was cold. We ate there once on an evening, it was over cooked. Not the best!
The pool was well over looked and very small, we never went there, but had to walk through it every day to get to our room, it was always messy with , food, plates, etc. and was only tided on one occasion.
The staff were neither helpful or rude, they seemed to be indifferent.
We went over to the Palm Court once to use the phone and it was overflowing with people, not our cup of tea, the stereotypical, "English abroad" type! Some people seemed to love the Venus, breakfast, dinner and tea there everyday! And not visit the lovely Island, which is a shame.
However we always think you get what you pay for and we had a fantastic holiday, with the Venus just been a place to get washed and have a sleep. I can think of worse places to stay! One of the other reviews described Malta to a tee .....
"Malta in my opinion is a rough diamond, sparkles in places but needs a good polish elsewhere." It had a lot of charm and beautiful buildings and sites the Maltese seemed to be very family orientated and would have evening meals on the rocks.
There were too many Pizza/Pasta restaurants and the trip to Cominio is spoilt by the "cattle market" style boats which over flow with tourists. But we were in the height of season so what did we expect!
Definitely worth a trip and if you want a cheap holiday and don’t expect too much, then the Venus is OK. After all a holiday is what you make it!!

The food was disgusting the rooms were ok and that is being generous all I can say is if you want it cheap go there but the hotel wasn’t clean and I had chips every night? For a cheap holiday you might enjoy it but i never
Oh, and the hotel is not new if you have been told it was it has just been renamed and it wasn’t cleaned around the pool for at least 2 days and in the hotels, there was cockroaches outside as well.
Food was good, although as we went with Malta-bargains and holiday was so cheap we ate out a couple of evenings and found some nice restaurants! Do not go expecting to live in the lap of luxury but for a nice, relaxing break in a reasonable hotel and resort you will be hard pushed to do better, especially when you consider I have had a wonderful time kids.

Hotel staff was brill made our holiday. flight was fine, no delays, good legroom, good meal, e.t.c. New plane would recommend visiting Gozo for a day trip though.
Would go back any time.
Submitted By: Miss C JamesThe sink was full of someone else’s hair - the odd stray hair you can accept but this was an awful lot of hair all over the basin. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guests (it was obvious need I say more!) and when I pulled the shower curtain across to have a shower in the morning a dreadlock of matted hair was attached to the bottom.
We arrived at 3am in the morning and when I went to get into my bed, I lifted the pillow to pull back the sheet so I could get in and underneath my pillow on the bottom sheet was a lot of crumbs. It wasn’t a speck or two, it was a generous helping of crumbs - someone had clearly eaten bread or toast on the bed and it hadn’t been cleaned off. This made me think that perhaps the sheets hadn’t been changed since the previous guests, especially as on further inspection I found 2 damp stains on the top sheet! I ended up sharing my friends single bed with her.
The hotel is next to a road that becomes as busy as the M25 in the early hours of the morning and it is used by buses and HGVs all through the night. It was very noisy all through the night and it wasn’t just traffic - there were 2 fights outside our window (English holiday makers drunk and swearing).
There was a very long hair in the communal butter dish at breakfast in the morning. I know that this can happen accidentally but staff kept walking past without checking the food or removing it and so it was still there when we left the restaurant.
The one consolation for us was that the Malta Bargains Rep was fantastic. When he saw how upset we both were, he immediately moved us to another (much cleaner and nicer) hotel in another resort on the island after the first night. After the initial discomfort, we had a fantastic holiday in Malta.

Submitted By: Mr V HeathMalta in my opinion is a rough diamond sparkles in places but needs a good polish elsewhere.
Valette is the jewel in the crown, steeped in history with narrow streets to explore and endless sites to see.
The weather is glorious and the people friendly and helpful, local transport is cheap reliable and for those who like vintage buses it’s a must do.
Now the down side.
If you are used to travelling with our high street travel agents and you have booked the above hotel through Malta bargains you are not going to get what you are used too, but again "in for a penny, in for a pound".
British jet started operating in May this year using old Boeing md90 aircraft which have been given a make over.
The pilots were Swedish and the crew were Maltese, there in no onboard TV or piped music so take a paperback or crossword with you for the 3.15 hr flight. However the fight was smooth and the cabin crew were courteous and professional.
Qawra and Buggiba are a bit like run down British resorts with Sun, but don’t let this put you off. there is still plenty of nice bars and restaurants to choose from.
The Venus has like most hotels in the resort has seen better days and is way below what you would usually call 3*.
However efforts are being made to improve standards at this hotel and it’s sister hotel the palm court. The palm court is a little rough around the edges but the Venus although very basic is a lot more tidier and the staff more friendlier and helpful.

The next morning we were told we had to use Palm Court hotel just for breakfast & evening meal that day to be fair the meals were okay but the following day we were told to use our own hotel for all further meals breakfast again was okay evening meal was unpalatable beef you can not swallow, pork you would not even try (dark grey in colour) some kind of a stew the only thing we could eat was salad. Next day Christmas eve menu on show in hotel foyer again breakfast okay evening meal not as stated on menu and yet again disgusting, Christmas day breakfast okay menu for xmas dinner again menu on show in foyer but what a disaster no turkey, no pud, no mince pies the excuse the hotel management used was they got the menu's mixed up we had the same as we had days before.
To use TV in room you have to hire remote control no problem if you can get it to work ours would not changed it 2 times girl on reception said she would send someone to fix it for us he turned up the afternoon before we were due to go home, reception is very cold staff sit with coats on. I had read that the Venus hotel has been refurbished all they had done is put in newer furniture so you don’t notice at first glance how dirty it is. This holiday was the worst I have ever had.
