Hotel is set on the quieter side of the river, but within 5 minute walk of shops, bars, and Charles bridge. On entering the hotel reception is up a flight of stairs.
This is a small hotel with only 42 rooms, all slightly different in size and shape but very clean, with WC shower, TV. Staff where very helpful, breakfast was continental but plenty to choose from. Trams run passed the hotel, very cheap about 50p for a ticket, which you can use for 75 minutes, on as many different trams as you wish within this time period.
Buy the tickets from the metro stations and paper shops in advance and just validate it in the machine on the tram. Plenty to do and see, there is a very cheap beer house under hotel 40p a pint. Its a bit basic but people very friendly. Go up to the castle you can always get the tram up, because it’s a big hill but worth it.
Book taxi over the net or by phone before you go as it is much cheaper than airport taxis. Fantastic city lots to do, would go again, even use same hotel we got 4 nights for 3 price. It’s just far enough away from the Main Square and good value.

The Hotel William is a superb base for seeing Prague, being in the lesser quarter (Mala Strana) about a 5 minute walk from the end of the Charles Bridge, making it very convenient for both the Old Town Square and the Castle, both reachable in a pleasant 10 minute walk.
The hotel is clean, bathroom well equipped, good warm radiators perfect for the winter months, good buffet breakfast and pleasant staff. Some rooms are adjacent to the road, which is busy from very early till very late, including trams, but this wasn't a problem for us as there is just a gentle rumble of traffic noise.
The location and cost of this hotel more than make up for any lack of luxuries such as a minibar or coffee facilities. There is no restaurant, but the buffet breakfast is very good. For the price, you can't beat it.
