Eagles Palace Hotel

First thing this hotel is lovely , but it is 90minutes in taxi from airport ,nightmare!!! we stayed in bungalow with sea view nice room ,maids cleaned every day rooms where very clean. Staff where friendly and hard working ,food buffet style boring and lots of people pushing to get food drove us mad after a few days.There is nothing around the hotel and i mean nothing there is a town 4 km away which was not nice.We took a 3 year old with us not much for him .weather was mixed thunder rain and sun would say its more for older people wanting to relax and enjoy the spar and quite time.

Very isolated: you'll need a car, especially as the hotel will NOT book taxis (except for airport runs), despite what they advertise in their literature. Rooms were reasonable (though the balconies were small), as were the staff. Private beach is nice, but covered in sun loungers. We'd no major complaints, but it doesn't reach 5 star in quality. Our friends stayed in the presidential suite (3,000 euro per night), and this was nothing special either. Ouranopolis is quite isolated.

Stayed at Eagles Palace in July 2006. Pros: Lovely location on its own private sandy beach. Clear, clean, blue sea. Excellent scuba diving centre run by 2 lovely sisters Katarina and Niki. Very good watersports centre run by Dinos. Plenty of little boats to hire. Views from the hotel are beautiful. Area is unspoilt and quite remote. Good mixture of nationalities stay at the hotel. Staff hardworking and friendly. Buffet meals were good with plenty of choice. Hotel bus took guests into nearest town (about 5 km). Bikes available for hire. Cons: The hotel is probably 30-40 years old. Parts have been refurbished but other areas are dated and a bit shabby. Bedrooms/bathrooms are definitely not 5-star standard. Beds are hard and the pillows cheap and lumpy. No tea/coffee making facilities. Minibar fridge not cold enough. Corridors to bedrooms are carpeted as are some bedrooms. All carpets need lifting and replacing with ceramic tiles or simiar. A few guests (Greeks?) had possession of thin chains and padlocks which they used to attach "their" loungers to "their" sun umbrella close to the water's edge (best position!) They never used them or would lie down for about an hour, disappear and padlock folded loungers again! This prevented other guests from enjoying the front row loungers/umbrella for a whole day.

The hotel is close to the highway, and you can hear the cars going back and forth all day and night, especially when you are on the beach. When you enter the hotel you immediately realize that this is maybe a three star hotel: the smell of food spreads thorughout the entire building, poor lighting, cheap decorations, old elevators, a generally cheap feel about it. The restaurant looks like a student canteen -food is maybe average; the grass around the hotel is dry. The rooms look cheap and have a weird smell - feels like newly but cheaply renovated. From (some) balconies you can see the sea, but also the highway; as a bonus you can see the cheap, old and wet carpet that covers the top the the bellow floors. The personnel tries to be nice, but you can tell they lack a five star hotel training and experience. The beach is very narrow and it is located nearby the main road; also it is hard to get chairs if you wake up after 9h am. Overall a disapointing experince. I am surprized that a big hotel chain as Small Luxury Hotels recommends it.

Have to tell you, the hotel, staff and food was excellent. We stayed for 1 week (May 6th) and wished it had been 2 weeks. We paid extra for the seaview which was well worth it, the room was very modern with extremely comfortable beds and the view from balcony was lovely. The whole place was beauitful. Lots of sunbeds and although not many British tourists, english spoken everywhere and everyone was nice and friendly. It wasn't that busy our week, but could see the Hotel staff were doing a lot of work preparing new rooms - again we could see they were being decorated to a high standard and although these must have an additional cost to them, we would like to go back and book one of these next time!

It somewhat dismays me to read the reviews on here, as we stayed at the Palace for our honeymoon back in 2002, and completely loved the place - surely the place cant have changed so much since? We werent sure what we were going to get as wed booked it pretty much last minute, but upon arrival we were greeted with a large spacious lobby, with a grand piano playing, and the whole place oozed of quality. The spiral stairs leading to the bedrooms were all made of marble, and the Hotel itself had been built on the side of a mountain, so had different 'tiers' consisting of gardens, restaurants, cocktail bar, a wonderful pool - all of which overlooked the ocean! Breakfast was pretty much everything, a buffet style, eat as much as you want, catering for everyone, with bacon, sausage and egg. The evening meal was a 5 course affair, with each group of tables having their own waiter/waitress! One day of the week they had a barbeque out on the gardens which was quality. Oh and you could pre-book a table out on the gardens if you so desired, for a nice romantic meal overlooking the sea. As mentioned this isnt the place if you want to visit anywhere, but the Hotel itself provides a nice pool with a poolside bar for you to spend the day relaxing. It even has its own luxury yacht which for a small price will take you down the peninsula so that you can view all the monastaries, which is well worth it. We spent the evenings at the cocktail bar, which overlooked the pool and the sea, and had an outside disco 2 evenings of the week. On another evening there was a beach disco, where there was a bar on the beach and a local band playing. This is the perfect place if you are a couple looking to get away from it all and just relax, and for us the place was indeed a palace. Were looking at going back in 2007 for our 5th anniversary, to experience the same delights! Oh and one other thing, we booked a room for 2 weeks at half board with Thompsons for just £1500 which was a steal!

Positive Points: -We had a junior suite with direct sea view which was fantastic and very quiet. -The room service was excellent. -The restaurant à la carte is uniquely located with a very great atmosphere. Personal pleasant Negative Points: -Food for breakfast and evening in the normal restaurant is of average quality. Price for the food is far too expensive! The restaurant looks like a canteen (not really what you expect from a 4 or 5 Star Hotel) -The pool is nice but too small. -Beach: If you know the secret to get a good sun lounge, you are lucky. Otherwise you end up between the noise and smell of all motorboats. The staff on the beach is very unfriendly!!! The hotel is marvellously located; it's a nice 4 Star Hotel!!!

This is a 3 star hotel in a 5 star location. The rooms are only average (better in Best Westerns) and the food is well below the standard of a 5 star hotel. Beach is very good as is the pool and Taverna (good food but you have to pay for it!) and the public rooms are not bad except they have a piano player every night of the week that plays the same tunes and can be heard in all of the public rooms and bars - boring. The hotel has 3 mini buses that seemed to be parked outside all day with the exception of 1 trip into the town in the morning and 1 trip back in the evening and as there is nowhere else to go around the hotel, this is a complete waste. The hotel is also expensive for drinks - a small bottle of water is 2.95 Euro whereas in the town it is half a Euro! With the location that the hotel has on a private beach it really has potential but is in need of new management and ideas. Will not be going back!

This is a great hotel for those that want a beautiful private beach, white sand, blue waters, no pond life and a totally relaxing experience. The staff are friendly and speak most languages. The location is just splendid, totally unspoilt with wonderful vistas across the sea to a small island. The food is excellent, the kid's club is free if somewhat basic and the rooms are spacious and comfortable offering a haven from the mid day sun. The down side for the more adventurous is that there is nothing either side of the hotel, in fact, it takes a 4 kilo hike to get to the nearest town, however, the hotel offers courtesy bus - somewhat infrequent. You can take a boat trip to the island opposite, there are also boat trips to see the Athos peninsular - but the most stunning thing about it all is the fabulous unspoilt scenery of the area. Breathtaking.

Firstly, this is not a 5* hotel, maybe pushing a 4*. Why do some hotels not live up to expectations? On arrival at this hotel you do have the immediate feeling that it is not going to be as luxurious as you had hoped for. Reception staff were pleasant as were most of the staff at the hotel. Rooms very poor, 5/10. Restaurant ok, food 5/10, staff very pleasant though. Poolside is very small as is the pool. Taverna near the pool is run by some kind of pecking order, maybe depending on how much you tip.......? Beach was lovely and the surrounding scenery was perfect. Guests were a mixture of different country's. Overall - Food 'ok' Resort 'average' Rooms 'poor' Staff 'pleasant' Place needs a total refurb ps - incidently posted this review two months ago and it had been deleted.......thats odd!!
