Nice Hotel, great location.
My wife, daughter and I stayed at this hotel for 8 enjoyable nights. We were given a room in the second block which was at ground floor level with access to the pool area. The room was quite small for 3 and had a further problem because it smelt of damp as this part of the block was built into the side of a slope. We did complain and were given a new room 2 days later as the Hotel was full. I would say the staff were helpful and the new room was larger and well appointed. Location is simply superb; you virtually have your own private beach with access down from the pool terrace. There is a Hotel snack bar at the pool and another down on the beach and the food is very nice and reasonably priced. The pool it self I thought was quite small and was shaded from about 4:30 pm making it feel a bit cold sometimes. The pool patio area had lots of loungers but more in the shaded area than in the sunny areas, these would be booked with the usual towels 9am on. The resort centre was only 200m from the hotel here there are many restaurants, bars and supermarkets etc. We found the breakfast excellent with a wide variety of both hot and cold foods, a chef on hand to cook omelettes etc. Entertainment we found limited, only on 3 nights a week and of poor standard with very few guests attending. If you have any walking problems you may find this hotel very limiting as there are many different levels with lots of steps, there are lifts but I'm not sure if they go to all floors and certainly don't go down to the beach area. This in general is a good standard Hotel, although I do have some reservations that it should be classed as 4 stars.
Not too bad after a dodgy start
We booked our week long B&B stay at the Hotel Cala D'Or with Sovereign, flying from Glasgow. This is a bit of a change for us as we normally travel with standard package operators (Airtours etc) or else just book flight and accom ourselves but thought that this might be a treat as the company and this hotel are sold as being a little upmarket. Flights out went OK and we had a taxi transfer (~1 hour) which went well. On arrival at the hotel it appears to be typical Balearic stuff, all white with nice gardens, balconies etc. We were shown to a room (303) in the Annex which was effectively on a sort of lower ground floor. This was not what we had wanted as we had specifically requested an upper floor. The problems did not end there though as the room was quite small, with low ceilings, a smell of damp and North facing patio doors. There was also a lot of noise from the upper floor and because the drains from upstairs ran behind our bathroom wall there were also lots of "water noises" when folks upstairs used the shower, loo etc. We complained to the rep and she approached the hotel and they apparently had no other rooms to move us to immediately as they were fully booked. We were moved after the second night in this dungeon like room to an upstairs room in the main hotel (203). This was much better, had great views over the garden, sun in the afternoon and evening and was more or less what we were expecting although the walls were a little "sound permeable" and the place was just generally quite noisy. I think the hotel is quite old and has been updated in various stages to try to deliver what modern holiday makers are expecting. I say more or less what we were expecting because in common wiuth many Spanish hotels, the star rating seemed very generous, the place has 4* but by UK or northern European standards was at best a 3* hotel. So much for the negatives, there were lots of positives, the breakfasts were great, staff in the restaurant and bars were absolutely first class and the pool and outdoor bars were really nice. I had read reviews on Tripadvisor that the evening food was not good and although we did not experience it ourselves we spoke to more that one guest who said it was not to their taste - rather rustic Spanish fare. We also enjoyed the resort, Cala D'Or is small and had the inevitable tatt and tacky restaurants but also some little gems we had dinner at the Carpaccio Italiano twice as it was rather good. All in all I must say that while our experience was OK after a poor start that I would not go again to this hotel and would probably think twice about using this tour operator although I have to applaud the rep as she was very helpful. I would perhaps return to the resort however but just pick another hotel. If you are going to this place, when you check in, avoid rooms in the Annex as I think they are generally of a lower standard that those in the main hotel.
Great Holiday at The Hotel Cala D'or
Stayed for ten nights bed and breakfast, spacious room with sea view . Could not fault the Hotel Cala D'or, excellent choices for breakfast..the location right on a lovely beach, friendly staff, close to the centre of Cala D'or but awa y from any noise. Mini bar in room, white towelling dressing gowns for guests' use .We used the Resort Hoppa for our transfers without any problems.Only wish we were back there now!
Hote Cala D'Or
Perfect location with an almost private beach on your doorstep, the hotel is close to the Marina and town centre but not close enough to be disturbed by any noise, staff all very helpful. Food choices could be better but on the whole acceptable.
loved the apartments and resort
hotel cala d'or apartments where very nice the resort was great had plenty of shops resterants and the beach was great we would go again
Sept 2006 stay at Hotel Cala D'or
We are a mature couple and have just returned from an enjoyable stay at this hotel. We would confirm the comments other people have made with one exception and that is the evening meal which we thought was poor ! Boring salad start with poorly selected choice of mix for main course options and normal desserts.Breakfast same as most other hotels. Not 4 star food in my opinion. However, cleanliness, location and staff service is GREAT. Minibar prices steep (so buy from supermarket 5 mins away ). Car park available with key fob for the electric gate (30 euro deposit). A bathrobe is supplied (if it fits) which is nice. Our TV reception was bad on English channels (told due to stormy weather although this was glorious)but not a problem as we were on holiday and didn't go to watch tv. We loved the location and lunchtime food at the beach snack bar is very good. Good hotel and some of the nearby restaurants are very good but as a 4star hotel I expected that bit more.
Great Hotel
A greathotel in quiet location within the resort. Just returned from two weeks half board. loved the hotel ( not to big) staff really helpfull especially head waiter and fernandes in restaurant. Food of really good qaulity and loved the position of hotel on beach. Not a party hotel but had some good qaulity entertainment in evening especially the acrobatic cats!!!! Would reccommend the hotel.
Superbly relaxing Cala d'Or
We stayed a week here, after having toured the western Mallorcan mountains, so we were ready for some 'crashing out' time. This hotel is friendly, welcoming, ideally situated, and very comfortable. The breakfasts are appetising, and the staff very friendly. The Cala d'Or beach, just literally a few seconds' walk away, is lovely - it may get crowded, but it's not noisy, and well tended by the 'resident' sun bed man. Overall, a brilliant place for relaxing.
Wonderful
Just come back from a fantastic stay at the Hotel Cala d'Or. We had 2 rooms, a double and a single. The single room is the best we have ever experienced - it was large and had all the facilities of the double, including a wonderful balcony. The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble for them, and they were so friendly they were like long lost friends. The hotel itself is a traditional style hotel, beautiful white washed walls and gorgeous gardens. The pool area, although not over large, is more than adequate for the hotel, and overlooks the bay - steps lead down from the hotel directly onto the beach. The main restaurant/shopping area of Cala d'or is a few minutes walk away, and the marina (including some of the best restaurants) around 10 minutes. The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring the resort. As we were so close to the restaurants of Cala d'Or we only had breakfast at the hotel, but the food was of a very high standard, and the evening menu looked equally good. If you are looking for a quality hotel without being large and inpersonal this is the resort to go for. Absolutely first class.
Bliss!
If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind the Hotel Cala D'Or is perfect. Set a short walk from the resort's bars and restaurants the hotel in a quiet setting, unobtrusive, typically Spanish, overlooking a small sandy cove. Room was of a moderate size with all the amenities you would expect from a 4* hotel including mini-bar. Safe available at a nominal cost. The hotel pool isn't very big although perfectly adequate for cooling off with comfortable sunloungers and a pool bar offering an excellent selection of lunchtime snacks. Pool towels are available for a deposit. If you stay half board you won't be disappointed as the food is excellent (a la carte) with plenty of choice. The dining room is small and cosy with a conservatory that overlooks the sea. The staff are friendly and professional without being overfamiliar. I can honestly say I was sad to leave. I would definitely recommend this hotel it's a gem!
