I was unlucky enough to stay in this hotel, no tv in room, no radio, non air con, the toilet was leaking, there was a horrible stench in the rooms constantly, the buffet meals were very bland and cold mostly, the bar area is very small and you can only fit a maximum of 8 people at! there are much nicer hotels in cala dor its not worth ruining your holiday by staying at the Cala Gran Hotel.

Hotel room was very minimal no mini bar as stated, The bathroom was very outdated with chipped tiles no hair dryer as stated, certainly no luxury. The room was cleaned daily although the sheets were not changed for a week long stay. Meals were adequate but not very imaginative or hot. Entertainment was more catered for children and young families.

The hotel itself was good. The breakfast and evening meal were always quite high quality and had enough adequate choice for our 3 year old.
The staff all spoke good English and were very helpful, as was the rep although the trip to the waterpark was advertised as 1 hour on the coach and it was more like 2.5 which was a bit difficult with our daughter.
The resort itself was excellent with good selection of bars and restaurants, and the marina was 20 mins walk away.
Overall it was enjoyable for all the family.

Overall the hotel was very nice and very clean. There were 4 swimming pools which were fairly spread out all over the hotel and apartments. All inclusive guests would be advised to use the pool by the bar as it is the only one that serves all inclusive drinks during the day. It was quite inconvenient to go to the bar if we were by the other pools.
The swimming pools were kept clean although there were some tiles missing. It could be difficult to get a sunbed if we went to the pool during the day; lots of people had reserved them and then gone out for the day. The sunbeds were locked up during the night so it was not necessary to get up for one in the night for those of you who do - the sunbeds were unlocked at 8a.m, when there was sometimes a queue of people waiting for them.
For those with children there was a shallow children’s pool, but no lifeguards.
Overall the food in the hotel was fairly enjoyable. Sometimes breakfast was not at its best, but there was a continental selection and english breakfast. We had juice for breakfast although it was a bit watery. At meal times the food was nice, if you could get something you like. There were about two or 3 selections, chips or potatoes and salad. The dishes were not labelled and sometimes I struggled to see anything for vegetarians. Fried eggs were constantly served up in both the hotel and other restaurants. Some nights we ate out in local restaurants because the selection was very poor compared to other all inclusive hotels. We never felt rushed out of the restaurant and there were always plenty of spare tables. There is a beach bar near the apartments which serves snacks at fairly reasonable prices.
Our room was cleaned everyday, although the sheets were not changed during our week long stay.
There is plenty of entertainment around the hotel, but we had no problems in getting to sleep. Most things quieten down in Cala d’Or at midnight so this is ideal for those with children. Once the door was closed we could not hear a thing. I’m a light sleeper and was not kept up or woken up once.
The beach is right across from the hotel but gets crowded, although we always saw one or two vacant sunbeds. The centre of Cala d’Or is a five minute walk and the marina was a 15 minute walk. Beware at the bars around the marina as they are very pricey. The restaurants were lovely though.
The only downside to our holiday was that some of the locals were very rude, and we were outnumbered by very rude Germans, although it was the teenagers who were the rude ones. The Hollywood bar is well worth visiting, as is the Playa Beach bar across from the hotel. We visited this bar every night, and the waiters were brilliant.

A very welcoming hotel, with good sized rooms, an outdoor pool, and direct access to a small sheltered beach. The staff were all extremely helpful, both with matters connected to the hotel and with information about local events and transport.
We would recommend it as a hotel for adults rather than families, as other than the beach and a safe area of the swimming pool, there seemed to be limited facilities for children.
Breakfast is buffet style with a wide selection of foods to suit all tastes. We took a half board offer and enjoyed our evening meals (3 courses, each with several choices and a large range of deserts). Evening entertainment was provided on 4 of the 9 nights we stayed - musicians, singers and a flamenco group.
The hotel is located conveniently for walking to both the resort centre and the marina area, both of which offer a wide selection of good restaurants, bars and quite a few shops. The resort itself seemed clean and well maintained and was easy and cheap to get around by using the little road trains that run frequently between Cala D'Or and the connecting areas.

My wife, daughter and I stayed at this hotel for 8 enjoyable nights.
We were given a room in the second block which was at ground floor level with access to the pool area. The room was quite small for 3 and had a further problem because it smelt of damp as this part of the block was built into the side of a slope. We did complain and were given a new room 2 days later as the Hotel was full. I would say the staff were helpful and the new room was larger and well appointed.
Location is simply superb; you virtually have your own private beach with access down from the pool terrace. There is a Hotel snack bar at the pool and another down on the beach and the food is very nice and reasonably priced.
The pool it self I thought was quite small and was shaded from about 4:30 pm making it feel a bit cold sometimes. The pool patio area had lots of loungers but more in the shaded area than in the sunny areas, these would be booked with the usual towels 9am on.
The resort centre was only 200m from the hotel here there are many restaurants, bars and supermarkets etc.
We found the breakfast excellent with a wide variety of both hot and cold foods, a chef on hand to cook omelettes etc.
Entertainment we found limited, only on 3 nights a week and of poor standard with very few guests attending.
If you have any walking problems you may find this hotel very limiting as there are many different levels with lots of steps, there are lifts but I'm not sure if they go to all floors and certainly don't go down to the beach area.
This in general is a good standard Hotel, although I do have some reservations that it should be classed as 4 stars.

We booked our week long B&B stay at the Hotel Cala D'Or with Sovereign, flying from Glasgow. This is a bit of a change for us as we normally travel with standard package operators (Airtours etc) or else just book flight and accom ourselves but thought that this might be a treat as the company and this hotel are sold as being a little upmarket.
Flights out went OK and we had a taxi transfer (~1 hour) which went well. On arrival at the hotel it appears to be typical Balearic stuff, all white with nice gardens, balconies etc. We were shown to a room (303) in the Annex which was effectively on a sort of lower ground floor. This was not what we had wanted as we had specifically requested an upper floor. The problems did not end there though as the room was quite small, with low ceilings, a smell of damp and North facing patio doors. There was also a lot of noise from the upper floor and because the drains from upstairs ran behind our bathroom wall there were also lots of "water noises" when folks upstairs used the shower, loo etc.
We complained to the rep and she approached the hotel and they apparently had no other rooms to move us to immediately as they were fully booked. We were moved after the second night in this dungeon like room to an upstairs room in the main hotel (203). This was much better, had great views over the garden, sun in the afternoon and evening and was more or less what we were expecting although the walls were a little "sound permeable" and the place was just generally quite noisy. I think the hotel is quite old and has been updated in various stages to try to deliver what modern holiday makers are expecting.
I say more or less what we were expecting because in common wiuth many Spanish hotels, the star rating seemed very generous, the place has 4* but by UK or northern European standards was at best a 3* hotel.
So much for the negatives, there were lots of positives, the breakfasts were great, staff in the restaurant and bars were absolutely first class and the pool and outdoor bars were really nice. I had read reviews on Tripadvisor that the evening food was not good and although we did not experience it ourselves we spoke to more that one guest who said it was not to their taste - rather rustic Spanish fare.
We also enjoyed the resort, Cala D'Or is small and had the inevitable tatt and tacky restaurants but also some little gems we had dinner at the Carpaccio Italiano twice as it was rather good.
All in all I must say that while our experience was OK after a poor start that I would not go again to this hotel and would probably think twice about using this tour operator although I have to applaud the rep as she was very helpful. I would perhaps return to the resort however but just pick another hotel. If you are going to this place, when you check in, avoid rooms in the Annex as I think they are generally of a lower standard that those in the main hotel.

We stayed at the Cala D’or Hotel for 7 nights Saturday 18.08.07. We travelled with Sovereign. When we arrived we were given a ground floor room which smelt very damp, it was small and dark.
We had paid extra for a Side sea View, this room had no view you had to walk out, across the patio, onto a public path to see the sea. I should not have unpacked as the room was very poor. However I did unpack and went to reception later that evening, they had no others rooms, but said if I came back Monday they may be one available.
I did go back and on Monday we were moved to another room, this still had a slight damp smell, but was on a high floor and was much bigger and brighter. The staff are very helpful, but this hotel should not be given a 4 Star rating the rooms are only 2 star.
Each time we dressed for dinner we noticed our clothes feeling more and more damp. When we packed to come home I always do a room sweep for left behind bits and bobs and I looked under the beds I noticed the bed base had mould growing, this confirmed our feeling of dampness. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was excellent, but the overall holiday was disappointing due the quality of the rooms.
When we were leaving on Saturday 25th two young ladies were refusing their room, so the travel agents should be aware of this problem and need to address it ASAP.

The apartments were clean on arrival and cleaned each day. The Hotel had 4 swimming pools and a couple of tennis courts. Swimming pools well equipped with inflatable rings and beds but not so many it spoilt it. Excellent location. Close to shops, beaches and restaurants, which there were many.
We all enjoyed our stay. We are in our 40's with a 16 year old lad. In my opinion this Hotel would be suited for younger families as well as older. However if you like a load night life this is not the place for you (Try the other side of the island).

Perfect location with an almost private beach on your doorstep, the hotel is close to the Marina and town centre but not close enough to be disturbed by any noise, staff all very helpful. Food choices could
be better but on the whole acceptable.

this holiday was amazing, we arrived early hours due to a mix up with transfers, (not hotels fault) to a warm welcome from Jerry the night porter. He was very friendly and showed us to our room, which was very clean but not to big. Next morning we went down to breakfast, which was unbelievable, you had a choice of bacon, eggs (in all diff forms i.e fried scrambled, boiled) sausages, hash brown, beans stuffed tomotoes. About six different fruits, cereal, toast, tea coffee fresh fruit juice, buscuits etc, and all really fresh.
The pool is not to big, but for the size of the hotel quite sufficient, you didnt have to put any towels out for a sunbed there where plenty there for all residents. The staff especially katty, Becca and Jerry where very friendly and couldnt do enough for you. The rooms where cleaned on a daily basis and fresh towels every day. Snacks where available during lunch time and where to a high standard. For our evening meal, (as we didnt usually require any lunch due to the breakfast) we walked into town, some of the restaurants are very expensive and not good value, but we found a wonderful restaurant called Marfils, which was about 10 min walk from hotel, very resonable and the food was great. The staff very friendly on our first night there was only 5 of us as a party eating there by the end of our holidays, we used to turn up with 14 people, we sometimes had to wait for a table as it was very popular but only usually for 10 mins or so.
This Hotel should be more than a 2 star, but if you are wanting tea or coffee when you wake up, make sure you either take a travel kettle or higher one from the hotel as none of these facilities are in the room.
We made some wonderful friends at Cala D Or and we are all (and that is 4 families) going back again next year to meet up. Once again thank you Cala D Or staff for making our holiday a magical time
