not long got back from staying at the cala gran hotel..there was 8 of us, that inclused 2 children under 8.. the food was nice and the hotel was really clean..the staff were very friendly to us and we got everything we asked for..the only bad part of the holiday was the entertainment. by far the worst i have ever seen, so as were were all inclusive, we had a few drinks on a night time before heading around the corner to the tropical gardens.. this is open to every1 and they had live entertainment on every night and the drinks were reasonable... as for staying in the gala gran again, i would go back, as long as that entertainment was changed..one last thing, i got the impression that this hotel was more geared towards the germans, but that was just my feeling..had a great holiday and cala dór is beautiful

just come back from a week in the cala gran hotel.food excellent but not enough choice.we asked to hire a kettle because they are not provided, we were told a kettle would blow the electrics. we bought one for 10 euros worked fine.2 dozen sunbeds at the most. the english and german people guilty for the obligatary towel draping of the sunbeds.public transport none existent so stuck in resort unless you hire a car.3 euro for crap spanish lager at hotel bar. beaches fantastic but to small. spar shop expensive.despite all that i was in good company so its what we made of it that worked for us. dont go this hotel expecting top class hotel you wont get it. we didnt because it wasnt expensive. you pay for what you get. would go again as it was within our budget

The hotel accomodation was very good and all the services offered by hotel were excellent what needs to be reitorrated is this is a hotel for the older generation and although I have reached the age of 49 did feel rather on the young side , watch out for the mobility scooters !
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves although in the age of mobile phones are never far enough away from those annoying phone calls ( teenagers asking how to stack the dishwasher at home)

what a fantastic holiday read loads of reviews which made us realy worried, hotel, rooms, pool spotless staff, very friendly, entertainment very good, weather fantastic, location even better, just get a taxi up from commercial after a night out 2 euro 55 don't try and bother walking to hot and too hard, use local supermarkets rather than hotle shop(much cheaper) our party ranged from 4 years to 73 years 9 of us in total, only one complaint the pool could do with a better entrance as parents struggled to get in and out, have been to puerta rico before would definatly go back to this hotel.

We stayed at the Cala Gran for the 15th time in May and all I need to say about our holdiay is that it was FIRST CLASS, the staff are the best I have come across in my many years of travel, the food is usualy good and they have a Meditaranian and English menu (with a childrens menu if you ask), the rooms are cleaned everyday.
If you want Butlins go somewere else but if you like a good Majorcan hotel this is the hotel for you.
Were booked to go back again soon

I have just returned on September9th for 2 weeks at above hotel and THE STAR RATING SHOULD BE REDUCED TO ZERO MINUS3 STARS.
Firstly on arrival at noon I as told sharply to sit in reception by the lady on reception and the room would not be ready until 1.00pm no offer of cup of tea / coffee or beer while waiting no marks to reception but the men on reception were excellent only the lady was awful. The room no327 was the one I was given WHAT A BAD ROOM. It was a big room but on opening the curtains expecting to find patio door and balcony no such just a small window with the shutters on the outside closed and after opening above to see that all the view was a flat roof. You also needed sometimes to run the shower 5 minutes before hot water came through and most days the room was not cleaned until after 1500 one day not even done. The bar staff and dinning room staff were very good, The food was very poor SOUPS WERE LIKE WATER. Cold buffet was good The hot meal choice was poor only 1 meat 1 fish and 1 veggie to pick from and of poor quality.
The hotel situation was excellent but badly let down. I did eat out sometimes and THE CHEERS BAR AND DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE WERE BOTH VERY GOOD also the Wet your Whistle bar by tattooist RASHA very good. The tattooist is very good as well i hear.

I have just returned from a fabulous weeks holiday at the Hotel Cala Gran.
Please do not be put off by the reviews you may read on this site, as I almost was, as my wife, son who is almost three years of age and I had a brilliant time here. As did my mother-in-law who was very impressed with the size and cleanliness of her single room. Every guest we spoke to was of the same opinion and my advice would be to ignore the professional whingers and go and make your own mind up.
Firstly the staff were absolutely fantastic and were brilliant with my son. They were extremely friendly and I found that they were more than happy to go out of their way to provide assistance - just ask.
For example, on the day before we were due to return to the UK I mentioned to one of the staff in the restaurant that we had an early flight and he then informed me that if we attended in the morning he would make sure breakfast was ready for us despite the restaurant not yet being opened to guests at that time of day.
We were also delighted to find that one of the staff had left a lovely present for my little boy at reception for him to pick up when he was leaving, which we thought was wonderful.
They really were the nicest people you would wish to meet.
The hotel itself was great value for money - rooms were of average size, with typical facilities, extremely clean and the air conditioning worked perfectly and was very quiet.
The food was typical of any hotel we have stayed in and there was enough choice.
There are two sittings for dinner 6.30-7.30 and 7.45-9pm. You are allocated a sitting on arrival but I spoke with the reception staff and explained that some nights 6.30 would be too early for us and was informed that there would be no problem to attend the later sitting. I actually thought this worked well as there was enough room for everyone and the queues were kept to minimum.
The location of the hotel was ideal, right on the beautiful Cala Gran beach which is really pretty and safe for young kids due it being a sandy cove. The hotel was only two minutes walk from the centre of the lovely centre of Cala D`Or whcih is a charming, sophisticated little resort.
My family and I have travelled extensively over a number of years and were a little bit worried about going 3* on this occassion and even more so after reading some reviews, however we found this holiday to have been a perfect break, a lot of it due to some of the lovely people we met at this hotel.
WELL WORTH THE MONEY - ENJOY.

Just returned from my 4th visit to Cala D'or - still a fantastic resort with beautiful beaches and lots of fantastic nightlife for young and old. Particularly great for children. Lots to do to keep them entertained. Recommend highly tropical gardens bar which does a great childrens mini disco, followed by an animal show then a live music show for the adults.
Unfortunately I cannot rave too much about the hotel - first time staying in this hotel and it wasnt up to standard at all - I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for and 3 star is 3 star but not in this case.
The apartment/self catering area looks fantastic and lots of people staying in this section thought they were fine. The hotel itself is pretty run down, the rooms are tiny. 2 adults and 1 child pretty much fill a room with little space for anything else - including clothes. The reception staff were really quite rude. We didnt really complain much but any slight issues like (not enough towels or light bulb out) and they were quite abrupt and very quickly stepped in with 'if you are unhappy speak to your rep' so I got the impression very early on that they get alot of complaining customers.
The cleaner came a couple of times during the week but the mops were really awful and i had to tell her not to mop our floor with it. She didnt make the beds but if you want clean bedding or towels just throuw them on the bathroom floor and you will get them.
20 euros a week for the TV - which I thought was bizarre but just letting you know for info.
Food was ok not really any different to other 3 star half board. You get 2 sittings for dinner so only get 1 hr and ours was between 6.30 and 7.30 and if you were a minute late you werent allowed in - ha ha ha.
The hotel pool really is ...well ... not good. Its dirty small and never cleaned - bins go unemptied. There are other pools to use though so dont worry - you just have to get up very early if you want a bed - which again is usual practise I think for summer sun holidays.
All in all as always a big 10/10 for Cala Dor and I will be returning again but I wont be staying in this accommodation.
For those of you who did what I did and booked before checking the reviews please dont worry. Just dont go with high expectations of the accommodation. Theres plenty to do in the resort anyway so you wont spend much time in the hotel.

I recently returned from a weeks all inclusive holiday at the CALA GRAN HOTEL Cala D'or Majorca i found the hotel rooms to be clean and the hotel itself was well presented
however the food was very poor and my family and i found that their was very little choice and what was there was cold, after 2 days my wife didn't eat again in the restaurant and we found ourselves eating chips from the poolside snackbar to fill up.
The main pool itself had a very small shallow end that with one step dropped very sharpely to about 7 foot deep their was no lifeguard present at anytime and one little girl nearly drowned whilst we were there.
The entertainment was very limited although in the week we did see 2 duets that where very good and a troop of flamenco dancers that everyone seemed to enjoy on the other nights however we had a quiz night a kids entertainment night a piano player in the lounge bar and bingo.
On the whole i found the hotel comfortable, clean the drinks were good and plentiful but the food and entertainment was lacking.
The resort is beautiful and the hotel is very near a lovely beach that does get very busy.
I would go back to this resort but not to this hotel.

this holiday was amazing, we arrived early hours due to a mix up with transfers, (not hotels fault) to a warm welcome from Jerry the night porter. He was very friendly and showed us to our room, which was very clean but not to big. Next morning we went down to breakfast, which was unbelievable, you had a choice of bacon, eggs (in all diff forms i.e fried scrambled, boiled) sausages, hash brown, beans stuffed tomotoes. About six different fruits, cereal, toast, tea coffee fresh fruit juice, buscuits etc, and all really fresh.
The pool is not to big, but for the size of the hotel quite sufficient, you didnt have to put any towels out for a sunbed there where plenty there for all residents. The staff especially katty, Becca and Jerry where very friendly and couldnt do enough for you. The rooms where cleaned on a daily basis and fresh towels every day. Snacks where available during lunch time and where to a high standard. For our evening meal, (as we didnt usually require any lunch due to the breakfast) we walked into town, some of the restaurants are very expensive and not good value, but we found a wonderful restaurant called Marfils, which was about 10 min walk from hotel, very resonable and the food was great. The staff very friendly on our first night there was only 5 of us as a party eating there by the end of our holidays, we used to turn up with 14 people, we sometimes had to wait for a table as it was very popular but only usually for 10 mins or so.
This Hotel should be more than a 2 star, but if you are wanting tea or coffee when you wake up, make sure you either take a travel kettle or higher one from the hotel as none of these facilities are in the room.
We made some wonderful friends at Cala D Or and we are all (and that is 4 families) going back again next year to meet up. Once again thank you Cala D Or staff for making our holiday a magical time

I have just returned from a week in Cala Gran hotel in Cala D'OR Majorca, and can honestly say I was very pleased with my stay!!!!
I have so many good things to stay i don't know where to start...
1) Staff really nice and friendly
2) prime location - right on the beach and a stones throw away from the bars and resturants / three other beaches & marina
3)Very Clean
4)Good Food
5) perfect for couples or families as hotel / area quiet and not over run by groups or 18-30's
I really enjoyed staying here and if i ever went back would book again so can defo recommend the ONLY thing negative i have to say is that there is a 15euro charge for the T.V (not that we would have watched it) and there is public t.v's situated across the hotel.
and if your preferential to a cup of coffee or tea in ur room there were no facilities to make one is ours BUT you can get them from the bar and take them up to room.
HOPE YOUR STAY WAS AS GOOD AS MINE :) Minus the rain
