Du Louvre Hotel

Title says it all...overall, this hotel was "Ehh." In any other city I'd be furious for the cost/quality ratio provided by the Hotel du Louvre, however given that it is Paris, thats the way it is. Smoky lobby, snippy and unhelpful Concierge, rather small and dusty room, and chipping paint on the room walls. That said, this really does have a very central location, and is very convenient to the Metro. Located in a beautiful shopping area, but not so many good value restaurants nearby. Next time, we'll stay somewhere less expensive... more

The staff was extremely friendly and spoke excellent English. I spoke French most of the time when speaking to them, but when I didn't know how to say something, they helped me out. I stayed in one of the suites and it was great. We looked right at the Louvre. The only 2 things are: the Metro runs right underneath the hotel and we were on the first floor (second floor by American standards) so you could feel it. Our family stayed at the Hotel De Louvre the first week of January (5th-12). The hotel was very charming and the staff was excellent. Everything you would want and expect in a European hotel. We upgraded to the suites and rented two rooms on the second floor. One for our two girls 9 and 11 and my wife and I had a corner suite that looked right into the Louvre Museum. Stayed four nights 2/19-23/05. The location is incredible. The Lobby is beautiful but the smell of cigar and cigaratte smoke have the ability to asphyxiate guests upon arrival. Concierge staff was very helpful. First room, 371, faced the Comedie Francais and was even more smokey than the lobby. The second room, 179 ( same view) was a junior suite and breathtakingly gorgeous, but dusty. The heat /air conditioning unit did not work properly. It was always either too hot or too cold. we have just returned from a 2 night stay at hotel du Louvre. It was a fantastic location right next to the Lourve (funnily enough) nearish to to Notre Damne and walking distance to rest of central Paris. The down side of this hotel is that it needs updating, everthing is a little tired. This hotel has it all: location, friendly and helpful staff, large rooms and bathrooms, and oh yeah, location. We stayed here for 3 nights last August 2004. And this was just hands down, a great hotel. First of all, you literally can roll out of bed and into the Louvre if you want to. It's across the street. Wonderful hotel, great location. We went during January when the promotional rate was on (book in December to get this). Rooms are okay size and decorated in a true French style. Restaurant downstairs is quite good. Try and upgrade to a superior room if you can as the size makes a big difference. My only complaint ws the concierge is a bit snooty and not all that helpful until their palms are greased!

We just returned from a three night stay and we had a wonderful time. The location makes this the perfect hotel for a short stay in Paris. It is across the street from the Louvre and on top of the Metro. (In fact, the entrance to use the Museum Pass at the Louvre is 50 feet from the hotel and you can buy the Museum Pass at the Metro right outside the back door!) This hotel has the best location. We walked to most of the major monuments and there are plenty of restaurants near by. The Louvre is directly across the street. All major points of interest were within a $7 cab ride. Free buffet breakfast was included. (They stop serving at 10am, so get there early..) The little green bus stop is across the street and there's a metro station next door. Both the bathrooms and bedrooms have windows that open, an important factor if you smoke. I just came back from a short stay at the Hotel du Louvre (2 days). Although I live in New York, my husband and family live in Europe, so I was meeting them there for the weekend. I have to mention that I speak fluent French and, since I am European, I am usually not treated as a tourist in Paris. We had booked three rooms: two through the hotel's web site and another through Expedia, all under different names. I was the first to arrive to the hotel.
