" ACCOMODATION: WHEN WE ARRIVED IT WAS... "
Submitted By: Miss V Radford
ACCOMODATION: WHEN WE ARRIVED IT WAS 3 AM. WE WHERE TAKEN TO OUR APARTMENT WHICH WAS RIGHT BESIDE THE COMPLEX. GREAT WE WHERE TOLD WE HAD BEEN DOUBLE BOOKED AND SHOULDVE BEEN UP IN THE SMALLER ROOMS.. THE ROOMS WHERE SPACIOUS AND COMFORTABLE. CLEAN(ISH) AND IN THE WEEK THE FRIENDLY SPANISH CLEANERS CAME IN AND MADE UP THE BEDS ETS EVERY DAY. AS SOMEONE SAID BEFORE IT SMELT A BIT STRANGE. I THINK IT CAME FROM THE BLANKETS IN THE CUPBOARD?
FOOD: I WAS ACTUALLY QUITE HAPPY WITH THE GRUB. IT WAS QUITE NICE. ALTHOUGH EVERYTHING HAD MEAT IN IT AND LIVING WITH A VEGETARIAN DONT EAT THAT MUCH OF IT. IT WAS A BIT MUCH. THEY COULD EASILY LEAVE HAM OFF THE SALAD, PIZZA AND EVERYTHING ELSE. IT WAS PRETTY TASTY AND ALTHOUGH THE CHEF DID USE THE PREVIOUS NIGHTS MEAT TO MAKE A DIFFERENT MEAT DISH IT WAS OK. ITS ALSO OK IF YOU LIKE FISH SAME AGAIN, ITS BOTH IN EVERY DISH. FOR MY PARTNER IT WAS A DIFFERENT STORY, THE FIRST DAY OR 2 HE JUST TOOK CHIPS AND A BIT OF SALAD ALTHOUGH MOST OF THAT HAD MEAT OR FISH ALOVER IT. BEING ME I HAD A WORD WITH HIM AND WITH A DAY OR 2 THERE WAS VEGGIE PASTA, PIZZA AND THE CHEF MADE A CHEESE OMELETE FOR HIM, BETTER BUT FOR MY PARTNER DISSAPOINTING. THEY ALSO LIKE SALTY GRUB BY THE WAY.. AND IT S GEARED TOWARDS A GERMAN PALLETTE.
ENTERTAINMENT IN THE HOTEL: FOR MY 8 YEAR OLD SON I COULDVE CRIED., THE GUY WHO DOES IT NEVER ONCE TRIED TO INVOLVE THE BRITISH KIDS. THERE WAS A FEW THERE AT FIRST MAYBE 7. HE SPOKE ONLY IN GERMAN TO THE GERMAN KIDS AND I WAS LIVID..SAME OLD CRAZY KIDS DISCO NEARLY EVERY NIGHT..MY SON HAD NOTHING TO DO, NO ONE T TALK TO AND WAS BORED MOST OF THE TIME. DISSAPOINTING WHEN WE HAD LOOKED FORWARD TO THE HOLIDAY FOR MONTHS. THE ADULT ENTERTAINMENT CONSISTED OF BINGO. THE FIRST PRIZE WAS A CAR FOR THE DAY, SECOND WAS A JAR OF SANGRIA. THERE WAS A SPANISH BAD KAREOKE SINGER ONE NIGHT WE WHERE THERE. BAD
ENTERTAINMENT IN TOWN; SAN MIGUEL IS A LOVELY LITTLE COVE AND WHEN I SAY LITTLE I MEAN THERE S NO WAY OUT UNLESS YOU HAVE A CAR. ITS AT THE BOTTOM OF A STEEP HILL THAT LEADS TO SAN MIGUEL TOWN WHICH IS SMALL WITH NOT MUCH IN IT. THE BEACH IS NICE ENOUGH BUT WHEN YOU SEEN IT ONCE THERES NOTHING NEW TO SEE. A COUPLE OF OVERPRICED TACKY SOUVENIER SHOPS. I CANT BELIEVE THE PRICE OF THIS STUFF.
ALL IN ALL I WOULD NOT GO BACK HERE. FINE IF YOU CAN SPEAK GERMAN. I WOULDNT RECOMENT THIS FOR KIDS AT ALL UNLESS YOUR GERMAN OF COURSE.

Esmeralda mar is certainly in a lovely setting and the room were nice, about right for 3 star. The cleaning was a bit sparse, however. Our bathtowels disappeared for no apparent reason, not to be replaced. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice, but if I went again I wouldn't choose half board as evening meals were very hit and miss. There are some nice restraunts in the town to try, if you can. Beach is lovely, water very clear, but beware of jellyfish! Plenty to do, go and see Jason and Danielle at Ibiza Excursions for good trips and internet acess, 3 euro's an hour. Warning! no bank in Puerto San Miguel, nearest one in san Miguel about 4km away, if you want to withdraw money from a cashpoint. There is a bureau de change and car hire, though. Bus service good and cheap, single fare to Ibiza, 2.45 euro's. There's a spa shop too if you want food for lunchs, they sell a big range of souvenirs, too. If you have an awkward flight time home, 20 euro will keep your room for day, if no one else is due in immediately. Entertainment is bingo, karaoke, music quiz, parrot show, banana boat etc.

When we read the other reviews after we booked this hotel, we nearly cancelled our holiday the reviews also contributed to my partners teenage daughter refusing to join us so we lost £500!
We have just got back (August 2007) after the most hospitable stay in a 3* hotel EVER, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone with a family and who is looking for value for money in a most beautiful location.
When we arrived we had two apartments booked and we particularly wanted one to have a sea view, they both overlooked a palm tree courtyard. We were given the sea view two nights later when a room became available - bearing in mind August is the middle if the peak season - we were pleased with this outcome. The rooms were very clean and as expected basic. The maids cleaned the rooms 6 times per week and clean towels were available when we left dirty towels on the floor in the bathroom as instructed. We had a slight problem with our air con in one room which was fixed the next day plus a fan for the bedroom as it was 34 degrees. The staff could not be more helpful or pleasant.
The food was very good, something to suit every ones taste. We travelled with 3 teenage boys and they enjoyed the fry ups every day (except Sunday when I enjoyed the buffet breakfast including smoked salmon and cheese and the boys tried the croissants and now love them!) The menu was varied and on occasions the food was a little luke warm - we just waited a few minutes until it was changed!
The pools were a good size and loads of sunbeds - the top pool was best for swimming as it is large and the views over the ocean stunning. Top pool bar not as friendly as the main hotel and drinks more limited. The main pool enjoyed the benefits of the beautiful bi-lingual Anna who is the hotels entertainer and was very good motivating the children in the endless activities plus the adults! On some occasions we probably would have preferred quiet music, but we appreciate it is very hard the please everyone all the time.
We are definitely going back next year - and a big THANK YOU to all the staff.

" On arrival we were taken to apartment... "

On arrival we were taken to apartment that had not been cleaned and was not in the complex but down the street, so initially we were very disappointed but after the apartment was cleaned and the walk to the swimming pool/complex was not so bad minus the suitcases and a good nights sleep. I was happy enough with the food (too happy!). The entertainer was a Dutch gentleman named Jan, who was jaded to say the least and he only seemed to be comfortable with the German clientele.
I would not recommend this resort to my friends simply because it is too far off the beaten track (there is nowhere to ride the bikes that are provided unless you like uphill!). If you get here on the cheap then it is fine but there are too many other places in Ibiza that the location would be better.

" We booked for a two week all... "

We booked for a two week all inclusive in January 06 on the Medhotels web site to commence in August 06. Myself,my wife and two daughters aged 15 and 12. When we arrived the manager told us to take our suitcases and follow him back out of the complex and 300 yards down a steep hill into the worst apartments we have ever stayed in/when we argued with him we were not in the complex we had booked he got very rude and walked out.
Our quiet family rooms were next to the only nightclub open till 4am and two pubs one of which was open until as the sign said silly hour. Below us a car rental garage. The great views we were expecting from our balcony were instead piles of rubbish on the roof of a tin shack extension surrounded by chickens and a very, very loud cockerel which woke us up every morning at daybreak, that was after hearing all the mopeds and screeching cars leaving the disco at 4am.
The apartment fridge was rusty and filthy although they did manage to actually get it working after 5 days along with the phone being installed. The beds were only changed twice in the fortnight and the towels about every three days but they always smelt musty. The maid did empty the bin but apart from that did not really seem to do any other cleaning and making the beds obviously was not in her job description. The facilities in the hotel were appalling and the food was always cold when not actually covered in flies, what did not get eaten at teatime was served up as some sort of salad dish the next day.
The majority of the staff were very surly and rude which we have not encountered before in Ibiza when we have stayed there previously. The hotel entertainment consisted of one person who was very nice, Maria who did her best but obviously the hotel management would not pay for any thing else. The snacks were also cold cakes served only at 3pm, we never saw pizzas, sandwiches or anything else served as snacks as advertised. Great beach, a couple of shops and restaurants which was just as well as we could get something decent to eat. The only good thing about the holiday was we met some great people and after being told everything was booked elsewhere in Ibiza and not being able to get flights home we at least had good weather.
My advice would be to stay at the Galeon Hotel complex which is about the same sort of price or go self catering and stay at the Balsanat apartments. The San Miguel Park is no way a three star hotel and we have complained for the first time in 15 years as basically we did not get the holiday we had chosen and paid for, from the accommodation to the hotel facilities. It was like being in mainland Spain 20 years ago, very dirty and extremely basic in a one star hostel!

Stayed with 3 children who loved the place. The staff were great, and food/drink plentiful. The food was what I expected, but the children loved the choice, especially the Mexican.
It could do with more lifts, must be dreadful in high season. We stayed the last week of the season [half term] and found it a bit off putting that they put away the outdoor tables and chairs, and washed the upholstered seats in the bar so we all had wet btm's on the last night.
The kids club said it was open, but seemed surprised that the children wanted to attend and actually emptied the club around them. Made us feel like we had overstayed our welcome. Overall great location, right next to the beach, ideal for young families as not much to do outside of the hotel and beach.

I would only give the San Miguel Park a 1 star rating.

We stayed at the San Miguel Park on an all inclusive basis. The food was very basic and there wasn't enough choice, quite often the food would run out and we would have to wait for refills. At on point the roof to the dining area was leaking in several places!! luckily it only rained one day. Snacks included in the all inclusive basis were biscuits or cakes and only served at 3pm. The rooms were like apartments and our room had a "fusty" smell to it. Some of the rooms were very dark and damp.

There was probably only 10 English people staying in the hotel, as most of the guests come from Germany. San Miguel is a very quiet resort with very little to do other than relax. There is a very limited bus service to other parts of the island and there are no buses on Sundays Luckily we met some great people, had alot of fun and an enjoyable holiday. I would not stay this hotel again.
We were also told the kids club was only for the Germans and all the entertainment was in German. We spent the week away from the hostel finding a range of great beaches close by, this being the only consellation. Thank goodness we did not book all inclusive as we would then have felt obliged to sit around an overcrowded pool reluctantly practicing holiday German.
One to miss!
