The Receptionist is very offhand. The rooms were dark and damp. The food is extremely expensive two Spanish Omlettes, one beer and an orange juice will cost you 25 euros. A coffee is 2 Euros 50. There are no cashpoints nearby and no shops. There is one reastaurant... more

We've been coming here for years, twice some years, and will be back again this June. The food is basic but very edible. The rooms are clean but the beds are firmish. The pool is great and the view down the cove if you get a sea-view room is spectacular. The staff are... more

I can't believe a couple of the comments on this site. We stayed at this hotel in Aug 2007 and we enjoyed it so much that we plan to book again for a long weekend break in June. The hotel is advertised as being small and friendly which is correct. Anyone who bothers to... more

2006 was the third time that my wife and I have stayed at the Xuroy, and we love it, although it does seem to polarise opinion. If you're one of those people who likes bars, disco's, nightlife and Karaoke, then DON'T go to Cala Alcaufar, it's not your kind of place!... more

This hotel is very picturesque and quiet with not a lot to do other than the pool or the beach, which is small and rocky. This can become overcrowded by local families who gather at the hotel at the weekends. The food is a buffet style and very basic, vegetarians would... more

This hotel is the best one I have stayed in abroad in Europe. I stayed in Santo Tomas one year, and I think Xuroy equals it. The food is gorgeous and I love the buffet style as it offers a lot of choice. Even though a drink of cola is 2.40 euros, I work in a hotel here and... more

Loved it!!
Returned on 1 July after a wonderful week. Picked Hotel Xuroy after reading visitors reviews which portrayed exactly what we were looking for, a complete 'wind-down'. This was achieved, and more!! The location of the hotel is 'idyllic' and whilst the bar prices reflect the fact that there is a captive clientele, you do have the choice of not participating. There is a 'happy hour' between 6 and 7pm which proved to be extremely popular. To be able to sit on the terrace with a jug of sangria or a G & T and watch the children frolicking in the water and on the beach must be the nearest thing to heaven. A tiny stroll up to the left and you can watch the fishermen cleaning and filleting their catch whilst the locals wait to buy! The pool area is also very peaceful and relaxing, with no stress over finding an empty sun lounger. For the more active, a 10-15 minute walk will bring you to S'Algar which is a very white purpose built resort which boasts one supermarket, two shops selling souveniers and beachy things, a restaurant and a bakery/coffee shop. There is also a local bus which leaves from near the hotel on an hourly basis and goes to Mahon. This journey takes about 20 minutes depending on the number of stops it makes. All-in-all Cala Alcaufar/Hotel Xuroy is the best 'chill-out' holiday we have ever experienced. May nothing happen to spoil it!
Absolutely Fantastic
We've just got back today from the Hotel Xuroy and although I don't normally write reviews (although I always look to tripadvisor before booking anywhere) I felt I must give an up to date report on the Xuroy. The view from our bedroom was fit for a travel brochure, we went looking for peace and quiet and to re-charge our batteries and we certainly got that. There is however a regular bus service into Mahon from outside the hotel and theres always car hire as well as a friendly rep who visits the hotel every day who can arrange trips. The pool is one of the nicest I've seen and if you get sick of the view - there is also the gorgeous beach within yards. As half- board clients we had a continental breakfast every morning and a buffet style evening meal where plates could be replenished as often as required - the food was probably some of the best I've tasted. Each lunch-time we dined on the terrace (which was paid separately) and again the food was great, both meat, fish and vegetarian dishes - do try the shellfish paella it is second to none. We are definately going back. If I could change anything at all it would be to introduce omelettes at breakfast time for those like myself who don't like contintental breakfasts.
must take own coffee&travel kettle!!!!!
Firstly, fantastic location and very good clean hotel.DO try and book a balcony seaview room as they are FANTASTIC and worth the extra. Next important is the coffee they serve at breakfast (from a machine) is made with coffe and chicory, if you love camp coffee then you're fine, if not DEFFINATLEY take a jar of coffee and a little kettle! they sell coffee in the bar downstairs but its not good, unless you like a coffee with UHT Squirty cream! FOOD- do visit the TAPAS (Vista Maris) bar two streets away the food is fantastic and the owner so very helpfull and friendly, it may not have as good a location by any means- but it is super and authentic. The Food at the hotel is not that bad, it is soggy chips with everything type of fare. They do not supply water at breakfast or with dinner you have to buy it £1.40 a little bottle (you may not buy large unless it is for the beach) There is no coffee or Tea with dinner - unless you buy it. The lunch food in the bar downstairs is not any better than the hotel buffet dinners and is quite expensive for what it is. BUT if you're not too fusy about food and buy your water from the supermarket then it is the most fantastic place to stay!!
A proper escape of the beaten track
Holiday review We have just returned from one week at The Xuroy Hotel in Minorca. I must say I was a little nervous after reading the gentleman's review on Tripadvisor, previous to our day of departure. We had reassured ourselves with the fact that we were only expecting a basic hotel. What a lovely surprise on arrival then when we encountered this small but homely hotel. We had a beautiful view from our balcony. The beach is fairly small but stunning. It doesn't get busy enough for size to be a problem. Lovely sandy beach, great snorkeling. We had prepared ourselves for the worst with the food, considering other people's reports, however it was perfectly acceptable. There was a choice and though it was a bit 'chips with everything' there were vegetables, salad, soup, and fresh fish every night. I thought I was in heaven. Breakfast was a range of pastries, meats and toast / juice etc. The only down sides would be you have mobility problems, make sure you specify that you want a ground floor as the three flights of stairs to our room would have troubled some people. There are stairs to the pool and no lift that we were aware of. Also there isn't a shop in town, nearest one is ten minutes walk in San Luis. Good excuse if you didn't send postcards though. The rooms were spotless and cleaned every day. The ceiling fan was enough and the room temperature was not a problem. The drinks were a bit pricy but between 6 - 7pm is happy hour. Buy one get one free sort of thing. There are two other lovely bars, one great tapas and one overlooking san Luis. On the whole it was cheaper to drink wine than anything else. We went for great walks. There are some lovely little coves, some with sandy patches but you have to get there early to nab the spot. The staff were jovial and pleasant but be patient because the pace of life is much slower out there. There were a range of people there, lots of people with older children and they seemed happy. A week was enough for us. Any longer and I think you'd need to have a car. If all you're after is a haven a tranquility and a very quiet beach / book / pool / sun holiday than this is the most perfect place you will find. If you are a more action, clubbing orientated person then look somewhere else. One of the last, really undiscovered (and friendly local ) areas left. A real treat!
Peace on Earth
Just come back from an idyllic holiday at Hotel Xuroy - went for a do nothing one week break and that's exactly what we got. Located at a small beach with fishing boats and a couple of yachts bobbing up and down - the pretty whitewashed buildings make up the village which boasts the one hotel, one other bar, one other restaurant and a bus stop The hotel is basic but extremely clean and has all the usual except aircon in the bedrooms however it is in the bar restaurant The staff are excellent, dirty glasses or plates etc taken away before you know it - quick and efficient meal service, buffet filled up almost before it is empty. A really great team of friendly people. Maybe one downside is the beautifully laid out pool area is a little open to anyone who is unable to read the residents only signs and come up from the beach We went for a well earned break and ran out of time doing absolutely nothing being looked after by all at the Xuroy - thanks to them all
Perfect Holiday
We stayed at Hotel Xuroy in June this year, and it was everything we could have hoped for. The setting is beautiful in an idylic bay, and we had a fantastic sea view from our balcony. The food is delicious and plentiful, and the evening meal is served at a great time for us, 8.00 - 10.00 which allowed a very full day out and about before coming back to the beauty and peace of our perfect resort. It is quiet, (except for one day when a whole beach full of local school children decended on the beach...they were delightful, but noisy!) and we would definately reccommend the hotel and resort for older couples seeking peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting. The hotel staff were extremely friendly, and helpful, and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. We would advise anyone to hire a car, unless you really want to just sit and relax by the pool or on the beach, although I think there is public transport, you seemed to have to go in to Mahon first to get connections to the rest of the Island. Cala Santa Galdana was our favourite beach to visit, and although we did try and visit a couple of the more remote bays, we found one, Cala Macarella, to be accessible by road, and very crowded! and Cala Mitjana, which is said to have road access, also very crowded, and a very scary drive down to it. All in all though, a wonderful holiday which we would highly reccommend, and hope to return to.
Holiday nightmare
If you or anyone in your party eats, don't go to this hotel. The food is truly atrocious. If you or anyone in your party want to pay 5 star hotel prices in a 2 star hostal, go here - example: One tomatoe sliced and served as a salad was 7.30 Euros If you like a drink, take plenty of money. A can of cola - 2.40 Euros. Large beer - 5.60 Euros. The beach is not as shown in any brochures, the sand is rock hard and strewn with pebbles and boulders, there are no sunbeds, umbrellas or other facilities. The sea, because the beach is at the end of a long cove, smells The hotel is completely remote, the only thing within reasonable walking distance is one bar and one restaurant. If you have mobility difficulties don't go here - there are no lifts in the hotel, steps evrywhere and steep hills to climb. mThis is not a child friendly hotel. We were booked for 2 weeks and left after 5 days. The Manager asked why we were leaving and was told it was beacause of the food. His comment? "I know, it really is very bad, I just don't know how people eat it" He then went on to comment "Have you tried the coffee at breakfast? Isn't it terrible, I can't believe people drink that stuff" Not a good experience.
Heaven on Earth
If you are stressed and tired of the daily grind - then go to the Xuroy. Walk for 5 mins, sit at the end of the cove, and just listen to the waves breaking in the caves. There is no other sound, just peace and total tranquillity. There's no burger bars, no musak, no time-share hustlers - just total relaxation. Within minutes of the hotel there are lovely nature walks, with beautiful wild flowers and vibrantly coloured butterflies everywhere. The hotel rooms are basic, but spotless. There are no tv's or phones in them. Unlike the last reviewer we were not at all disappointed with the food, which we found to be of an excellent standard, and there was always plenty of it. The hotel has a charm which comes from being family run and not part of a global chain.Big Tony and his staff treat all of their guests as friends and individuals. If you love Palma Nova and Magaluf, then be warned you'll probably hate this place. But if you're looking for a chillout, then you've found your dream.
intimate, right on pretty cove beach
When the taxi pulled down the tiny lane and dropped us of at the kerb edge to walk the 20 yards to the door we could already see between the few privately owned homes of the locals the tiny secluded bay adjoining the hotel. The meals were pleasant in the dining room overlooking the inlet, and a few days stay would be catered for. There are barely two nearby bars/restaurants. You can take a short walk across the rocky headland to a small town with a few shops, cashpoint, car hire shop and scuba school. However, car hire or bus travel from the nearby stop is needed to fill more than a few days, and the island is beautiful. We preferred to do this and then to come back to our beautiful bay in the evening to sit on the terrace with a gin & fanta on ice ("pomada") and watch the sun go down on the water.
Super hotel, super location
We loved this hotel, good rooms, very clean throughout, excellent service and if you are looking for a quiet beautiful location then this is the place. The only down side was the evening meal -buffet style - you won't go hungry but it is boring. Hire a car, its easy to get about Menorca and there are plenty of lovely coves to visit.
