great break

We have just returned from a week at the Confortel Sol Parc apartments. It was the first time we have taken our children abroad (aged 6 and 8 years). The apartments are basic but clean. We were in a 2 bedroom apartment which are located at the other side of the complex to Reception, but ideally located for the beach, which was lovely. I was worried about the amount of trees with being located in a pine forest but this didn't turn out to be a problem. We didn't experience any problems with insects, as we had previously read about on other reviews. The wooden walk way to the beach was a bit unsafe and were told by our reps that this was in hand for repair, but didn't see any evidence of this. There are a row of restaurants and shops a short walk away which were adequate for a week's stay, but perhaps not 2 weeks if you like to sample different foods. We did report a lamp not working in our room and the sink plug in the bathroom didn't fit, so washes had to be quick as you soon run out of hot water! Unfortunately, our complaint fell on deaf ears as neither were sorted out during our stay. We also complained about the maid leaving our apartment door unlocked too! Close call! We did ask for an extra pillow each which did arrive the same day. The kids loved the beach and there are trampolines and bouncy castles and a few amusements above the restaurants on the 'strip' as it is known. We paid for a 2 star accommodation and that is what we got. A holiday is what you make of it and we loved ours. The apartment for us is just a base so it suited us. Menorca is a lovely island and we will definately be returning next year to explore more. These particular apartments are ideal if you want a beach holiday and is so safe for the children.
Very quiet
from A TripAdvisor Member
The worst thing about the place in general is that it is very, very quiet. We have two teenage children so this was a problem and they became bored very easily. It was ideal for our 5 years old boy though. I would definately say that this resort is family friendly. The staff are very friendly and the childrens club is very professional. There are many small children about (0-10) but not many tennagers. The rooms themselves are spotless but there is no air conditioning. There is a strip of restaurants about a 10 minute walk away but there is not a huge variety. I would recommend that you hire a car because there is not much within walking distance. The beach is not in an ideal situation as you have to walk down a small, thin wooden ramp and then climb down a couple of rocks so we only visited the beach once. This resort is reccommended to anyone that has young children or wants a quiet, relaxing holiday!!!
great for small kids
from smurphs
we went on 17/09/04 loved the complex, and the surrounding area. the beach was just down a small steep path, but some people did manage to get pushchairs down.pools fabulous, especially for the smaller kids. entertainment was excellent for small kids, up to about 8 years, think older ones would get bored. accomodation basic, but kept clean, beds changed regularly etc., big enough for 2adults/2 kids, one bed that is.only criticism the cooking facilities were not very good, considering self catering. worth paying for the sea view, lovely cove, great to swim in, safe for toddlers. the strip not very far away to walk to, had numerous restaurants, but all seemed to do the same food, and every thing with chips. steve(45) julie(40) sophie(3) steve(45) julie(40) sophie(3) didn't feel the need to hire a car, and had three days of windy weather when we used the buses to go to mahon and fornells, both worth a visit, especially mahon on market days. if you are looking for a resort with a bit of life , and you have older kids, definately not for you, but we had a great time chilling out with our three year old.
Enjoyable holiday

We have holidayed twice at the Sol Parc Apartments in Son Parc and once at the sister complex there, the Beach Club Apartments. Each of the holidays was so enjoyable we have invested in a holiday apartment in Son Parc. The resort is, we believe, the perfect location for a family holiday. The last time we went, when we spent a fortnight at the Sol Parc Apartments in July/August, we did not even bother hiring a car. There is enough to see and do if you are happy to chill out and relax and do the odd coastal walk or catch the bus into Mahon or Fornells. This summer they have resurfaced the roads, which was long overdue and, we understand, the resort of Son Parc is to have money invested in it as it is to be made an "exclusive resort".
A QUIET HOLIDAY ?

We went to confortel sol parc in june 04 . The apts were very clean and basic , had sat tv with two channels in english one for adults fox (a family channel quite good )and the other for kids. The strip has a lot for kids to do a couple of bars , and a few good restaurants mama mias was great .The drawback was not a lot of shops to browse around, but you can go on bus trips (local is cheaper).Mahon is good for shopping ,they call it MAO. The entertaiment was ok at the apts. The kids club was good .The pool water was very very cold due to the pine trees it should have been heated. Beach was ok there is a little dip in it so beware with small children also no shop at the beach to sell cold drinks. The reps were friendly enough. If you are looking for a quite holiday with the kids this is ideal ,but only for a week I think .Hope you enjoy it.
sorry Peterbourough 26th july 04

Sol Park, Yes sorry person from Peterbourough (26-7-04) but you should stay at home.just what do some people expect? we stayed at Sol Park at the end of May 04, yes they are self catering apartments pretty basic but sufficient, linen changed frequently ,cleaners each day and helpful staff. I would have liked to have some-one carry my luggage but I had not booked into a top price hotel the paths are liad as flat stones and yes a bit bumpy but not that bad certainly no dirt tracks unless you took the wrong route. The path to the beach is now in fact a raised board walk some sand gets blown on it at times but generally its good. Beach, sea, sand some of which is very fine coral (or at least that had washed in while we were there it looks pink in places),were all good, great snorkelling although sea cold in May, There are alternative routes to the beach and who can miss a walk through the golf course among the peacocks. adequate bus service, good few shops and good value resturants even the Chinese were good, JB's establishment provided good hospitality' the little resturant half way down the hill was good also. If told I was going again I would not complain.
Very sad if this is the case

We visited Sol Parc in 1994 & 1995 and found it perfect for our needs. OK not luxurious but I remember it being good value for what we had paid. Our two children loved it. we went again 1998 and it was just the same. In May thi syear my husband and I visited for the day on a nostalgic holiday (we actually stayed at Son Bou). There had been many improvements, maintenance were busy cleaning and sweeping (granted there are a lot of pine needles, but it set in a pine forest!) It seemed very tranquil. The walk to the beach is hardly miles - how ridiculous! It only takes 5 minutes walking and on decking (not there in 1994, 1995 or 1998!! Some people hate getting off their backsides! No we truly love Sol Parc and still think it is one of the best locations on the island.

Recently we returned from a two week stay at the Confortel Sol Parc. I can not express how much i would persuade you not to go. We were looking forward to a lovely holiday hotel with a bit of a lively night life but time to chill out throughout the day. Well it couldn't have been more worst. When we arrived after our coach journey we pulled up at the lobby. Checking in we then realised there was no-one to take our cases up to our rooms. Which we then realised that the path way was not only uphill but cobbled dirt tracks which unfortunately our room was one of the most furthest away! We arrived at our room, gasping fo breath, we entered our apartment to our horror to see ants all over the kitchen including inside one of the single beds and a sink half way falling off of the wall, and then just to make matters worst we placed our lightest case on the bed and were amazed while watcing it collapse infront of our eyes. All be it a maintenance man did come out and fix it We pacifically asked for a pool room view but instead they decided to give us a lousy bunch of dead pine trees with pine needles surrounding our selves overlooking a fun fair with masses of children's screams echoing until 1.30a.m when it closed. However one of the best points was the entertainment a night, although since our friends have visited once more the high standard seems to be falling. As you do i had brought fancy designer shoes to wear out at night, well what a mistake? You couldn't even wear proper shoes apart from pocksy plastic flip flops that were E1.99 from a shop across the road because as soon as you set foot out of you apartment your feet looked like you had just stood in a mound of mud, a disgrace. Although this all seems bad the pool was the worst which was yet to come. I got a water infection due to other childrens urine and had to spend one of my days searching for a chemist as one was not available close by. Considering the size of the resort you would had thought that the pool would benefit everyone, well i couldn't have been much more wrong it only fit about 30 mediam teenagers in no doubt with adults and toddlers that are to big for the babies pool. So we now refer to it as the 'p*** pool' or the 'p*** pond'. In most brochures it shows the pool with a few trees surrounding it and a few apartments opposite. UH-OH i don't think so! this is a massive complex with thousands of trees! My parents joined us on this so called 'luxury' trip. The beach was miles in walking distance and still if you went in the car there were well over 400 steps to climb to get to the car park. There was also a problem with the amount of towels provided when we asked for some for they told us ''right away madam'' 3 days later we still hadn't recieved neither the ones we asked fo or the ones we shoukd of recieved when the maid was tidy our room and changing the bed sheets. Overall i cn only say two words of wisdom for you - DON'T GO for us - NEVER AGAIN
THE BEST EVA!

Hi I am 14 and have jst got back (12/7/04) from confortel sol parc! only one word for it! FANTASTIC The complex is really big with lots to do! We stayed in room no.57, the pool was directly in front of us so we could go for a swim then just hop over the balcony, so were the pool tables and the table tennis tables. There was a swing park which was to the right off us and also like alittle gym thing and so were the volleyball nets. The multi sports court were just about a 100m walk and the main entertainment was just a short walk away. Yuo walk down a lovely little path to the beach which is about a 200m walk but it only feels like a few footsteps and the beach if gorgeous! Beautiful white sand and the sea was amazing. When you first walked into the water there were a few stones but after that it was just sand. It was also incredibly safe. It was shallow then a tiny bit deeper and after walking out 50m or so it was still only up to your knees, so its superb for young children. The first day we arrived there the sea was really calm, and it was throughout the next few days but on the friday there were Really big waves, about 1 metre above your head, which was really fun, The rep said that sometimes they do get big waves but these waves were caused by a tornado hitting the middle of the mediteranen. The sea is also really warm. The complex pool is really nice a bit cold though but you soon warm up. I wasn't really sure about this as on other reviews it said it was shaded by big tree's. That is a load off RUBBISH! it is beautiful, 2-3 tree's around the pool which dont even cover it! The complex have a lot of kids clubs for all ages! they do lots of different things which are really good, they also have a teenagers club, called wavelength for 9-16 year olds. I went to that and it was brill! they took us to a waterpark on the saturday and that was good and they take us down to the beach to play games, It wasnt like a little kids club it was grown up and really good. During the day 2 people come round gathering kids to play all sorts of games, to win a lollypop and to recieve a certificate on the evening. The complex bar, souvenir shop, supermarket and restaurant/take-away were o.k, a bit expensive though. For a cone of chips it was about £2.50! The shops are only a short walk about 200m or less from the complex and the spar there is incredibly cheap, 8p for a bottle of water it was. If you have yound children then when you come to the shops if you go up the stairs and go right past all the bars and to the end there is a bar and outside it has a huge bouncy castle, a jungle bungle and trampolines which cost 3 euro for your children to go on, and they can stay on it for as long as they like. From what I read about the complex entertainment I really didnt want to go! But it was also AMAZING! Whilst we were there they had 'the four tops', a music quiz then an amazing ballet show,a profeesional irish dance called 'Lord of the dance', a karoke, etc...for the kids there was a mini-disco everynight before the main entertainment which the reps did. All in all I would give it 10/10! the complex was VERY well maintained and always clean, and I would recommend it to anyone!
